Convinced that these savage and out of control creatures must be evil, Gruug calls forth a protective ward.

Gruug casts Protection from Evil on the surprise round.

Baolo attempts to take advantage of the creatures' distraction to snap off an arrow at the closest foe, but rushes the shot and shakes his head sadly as the opportunity is lost.

At the twang of Baolo's bowstring, Left-Ear lets his own arrow fly towards the one with the cleaver. Whatever terrible luck had been plaguing him seems to have abided, as it flies true towards the inhuman creature.

Mechanics:

HP 36/40; AC 21 (23 vs evil) /14/17; F +7, R +4, W +4; Init +3; Per +1; Channel 2/3; Fighter 3, Cleric 1

Gruug has learnt his role well, and feeling inspired by his divine blessing, he moves in to draw the their attention.

Gruug moves 20' to D2 and takes up a defensive stance. That should give him an AC of 26. (Or 24, if these savage pirates are not evil -- what's the chances of that?)

HP 21/35, AC 17/12/15, F +3 R +6 W +5, Init +4, Per +4, Bardic Performance Left: 19/20, Spells Left: L1(4), L2(2)

"Wonnerful," Louis says, casting aside his bow and drawing steel. "They're immune to me arrows as well! This day jus' gets better an' better!" He clears his throat and begins singing to bolster his allies' morale as much as his own.

Mechanics:

Free: Drop my bow.
Move: Pull my sword and move to -C-2.
Standard: Begin singing.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

"Maybe not immune, maybe we just need to use the right arrows?"

Aeronniell gives Baolo an inquiring look and selects a bludgeoning arrow that she intends to loose directly at the head of the one of the creatures.

Fire at the "pirate" in F,4

Hurry up and shoot your arrows Baolo... can't you see that the DM is anxious to attack the big target I gave him, and to score his usual criticals regardless of Gruug's AC? :)

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

Ha! Sorry for the delay. Big PFS day knocked me out Sunday.

Round 1
"Mebbe, may as well try Aero!" Baolo takes aim past Left-Ear and Xarethi and fires a pair of blunt arrows at the monstrosity in front of him. Shooting at pink halo
Attack 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage 1 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Attack 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage 2 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ready action to step forward one square if Xarethi moves.

HP 14/14; AC 12/12/10; F+1, R+3, W+3 Init +2, Perception +0

Xarethi moves to -B, -2 and reloads her crossbow.

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Guys, I lost the map in mapquest, so this fight will have to be helped a little by imagination.

Both of Baolo's arrows miss, due to cover from the table and both of his allies in the way.

Savage Pirates Round 1:
The chef moves to -D-2.

The pirate with the blue halo drops the body he was holding, steps to -C3, drawing his rapier, and attacks Gruug but misses!
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 9
No AoO due to Gruug's Total Defense (only way to get +4 on AC).

The pirate with the green halo drops the body, moves to -E1 and attacks Gruug from a flank!
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20...hit, possible critical
Confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16...no confirmation
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Rest of party actions:
Aero's arrow hits the pirate with the blue halo and he looks very wounded.
Since there's a pirate in -C2, does Xarethi want to move within 5' of him? May want to rethink spot. That's why you should always wait till I post for your actions.
Ialda then Baolo and Gruug are up again.

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

Ialda moves to close with the closest pirate, swinging her flail using Power Attack.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Damage 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

Ok, not 100% sure of squares for Ialda (perhaps engaging chef at -C-1) and Xarethi (perhaps stopped at -B1 to avoid AoO from blue halo), but I should be able to get a clear shot at green halo..or chef if Ialda went to green halo.

Round 2

Baolo takes a quick step forward (to -A0) and fires two of his blunt arrows into the now-exposed pirate in front of him.
Attack 1 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage 1 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Attack 2 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage 2 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

Sorry about the lack of direction in the last post.."I took DM's message to mean the map was gone altogether. I'll move to engage blue halo at B 2, assuming X doesn't want to be there.

HP 36/40; AC 21 (23 vs evil) /14/17; F +7, R +4, W +4; Init +3; Per +1; Channel 2/3; Fighter 3, Cleric 1

With Ialda in the mix, Gruug maneouvers to flank the opponent and attempts to skewer him.

+1 Scimitar power attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 28
+1 Scimitar damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

+1 Scimitar crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 28
+1 Scimitar crit damage: 1d6 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 = 15

Gruug howls with delight as he feels his blade dig in deep.

HP 14/14; AC 12/12/10; F+1, R+3, W+3 Init +2, Perception +0

I'm confused (Sorry).

Quote:

The chef moves to -D-2.

The pirate with the blue halo drops the body he was holding, steps to -C3.

The pirate with the green halo drops the body, moves to -E1.

Xarethi moved to -B-2 (which doesn't go anywhere near -D-2, -C3, or -E1). Unless -D-2 (pink aura) has a reach weapon.

Assuming that Xarethi is safe at -B-2, which I think she is, she'll crossbow Pink Aura (-D-2)

Light Crossbow
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
1d8 ⇒ 7

HP 21/35, AC 17/12/15, F +3 R +6 W +5, Init +4, Per +4, Bardic Performance Left: 19/20, Spells Left: L1(4), L2(2)

Left-Ear continues his singing as he swiftly loads another arrow, letting it fly towards the gruesome butcher.

Mechanics:

Attack Pink Halo.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

Lucendar didn't call for it, but in the case it hits (or has hit) Aeronniell's initiative...

Aeronniell continues to move for a good, open shot, aiming her arrows at their most injured adversary.

Longbow (pt blank, blunt): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 16 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

To recap:
You found the following letter from the ever elusive Vanthus Vanderboren in Rowyna's hideout:
“In any case, on to the purpose of this letter. . Remember that thing Brissa hinted about to me? About the pirates who were supposedly using Kraken’s Cove as a base for their smuggling operation? Turns out she wasn’t spinning tales—I’ve heard that they’ll be arriving within two weeks with a particularly rich cargo. I’ll bring her name up with the pretext of joining up with them, get their guard down, and when they’re not expecting it my men’ll light the ships on fire! It’ll be a simple task to pluck the treasure from the water once all those fools are dead. Should be more than enough to make up for what we lost when Lavinia inherited rather than me. I tell you… burning people to death on their own boats? It’s the best way to make money yet. Wish I’d thought of it years ago!”
Thus, in your pursuit of him, you rented a boat and went up the coast to Kraken's Cove, where you saw plumes of smoke. You docked the boat on a beach about a mile away and made your way on foot, but immediately notice the flora and fauna were off as you were attacked by "savage" and apparently diseased monkeys that were resistant to your normal weapons and appeared fiendish in nature, with tentacles and barbs erupting from the creature's back (a trait apparently common to the "savage" trait). In your encounter with them, two of your party (Ialda and Left-Ear) were apparently infected with the "savage" disease, as they felt their intellect drop almost immediately and momentarily saw their allies as food. You pressed on and reached the cove to see ships on fire, per the letter, and "savage" dinosaurs and pirates. You then sought answers in the smuggler's caves where you have been attacked by more savage pirates and a savage phanaton. You have yet to find any survivors or any clues as to Vanthus' whereabouts. You reached what may have been the kitchen only to encounter the butcher and his 2 assistants had been turned savage and they attacked. Clear enough?

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Now to try and recreate the last battle where we left off would be extremely difficult, especially since there was no map, so I will use DM fiat to say you won and killed the butcher and his henchmen without further injury (Gruug did confirm a 30 hp crit after all!).

Among the corpses and pile of treasure accumulated in the mess hall, you find the following:
5 rubies (worth 50 gp each)
A rapier that catches the attention of any warrior in the party for its expert craftsmanship
An ivory longbow well crafted that previously caught your attention
An intact backpack with 600 gp
3 potions
120 crossbow bolts
3 short swords
5 rapiers
2 longswords
2 scimitars
A glaive
2 guisarmes
A halberd
2 light crossbows
1 Heavy crossbow
2 battleaxes
A greataxe

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

The green skinned warrior breathes heavily after surviving the battle. These savage creatures were a nightmare to deal with due to their enhanced strength and aggression.

After catching her breath, Ialda casts a spell to search the treasure for magic auras, hoping for a cure to the condition both Left Ear and herself seemed to be suffering. If there is any magic, she will try to spellcraft to determine the magic contained in the item.

Spellcraft one 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Spellcraft two 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

HP 14/14; AC 12/12/10; F+1, R+3, W+3 Init +2, Perception +0

Xarethi takes some of the crossbow bolts to restock her lost ones.

"Anything magical, Ialda? I would aid you, but it seems you are doing well enough on your own."

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

The rapier, longbow, and 3 potions glow as magical. Rapier +1. You can make one check for the potions (they are identical).

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

"Hold your horses, X! Let me focus for a second," she smiles as she focuses on the items. Truth to tell, Ialda was probably the weakest in the party at identifying magical auras, other than Gruug. Practice could only help that.

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

"Not sure about de bow an' potions Ialda? I can take a look over dem." Baolo focuses and looks over the items that Ialda hasn't yet identified.

Spellcraft (Longbow) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Spellcraft (Potions) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

HP 36/40; AC 21 (23 vs evil) /14/17; F +7, R +4, W +4; Init +3; Per +1; Channel 2/3; Fighter 3, Cleric 1

With most of the party focusing on the loot, Gruug stands guard, ready to attack anything which might try to surprise them.

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

The potions are Cure Moderate Wounds.

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

"Alright, I don't think there is any way we can carry all this right now. Let's leave it until we are through, and then come back and lug it all back to town with us. We ready to keep going?"

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

Xarethi or Aero care to check that bow?

"Aah, heal in' mon. Anyone need ya be patched up before we continyah?"

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

I just need to know split of magical items among party: rapier, bow, and potions.

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

1 CMW each to Gruug, Ialda, and Left-Ear. Rapier to Left-Ear. Bow TBD till we identify it, but would go to Baolo or Aero.

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

I agree with Baolo on the item split.

F HP30/30 AC18 T12 FF13 F3 R4 W4/6 Init+3 Perc+9/+11 Oracle 4 (Stargazer)

"Hmmm..."

Aeronniell turns the bow over several times in her attempt to deduce its magical properties.

Spellcraft (bow): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

We're starting back on a busy workday for me, it'll be tonight before I get my bearings again, but I didn't want to hold us up. :)

HP 14/14; AC 12/12/10; F+1, R+3, W+3 Init +2, Perception +0

Xarethi shakes her head. "I doubt that I will be of much help in identifying these things. I know very little about the magical nature of the world."

Can spellcraft be used untrained?

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

+1 Longbow (ivory)

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

When the group assigns their newly found gear, Ialda again takes the front, leading them into the next passage.

Take 10 on Perception for a 19.

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Who is wielding bow?

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

Its a tossup between Aero and Baolo, but since Baolo has Rapid Shot and can get 2 +1s out there per round, let's have him take it.

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

Sounds good to me. I don't remember, does magic pass that crazy DR these savage bastards have?

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

I don't remember either, but I'm thinking it might. I think I had better luck when I activated my judgement earlier, but I can only do that once a day right now.

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Yes, Gruug can testify to the fact that his magical scimitar slices through the savage creatures like butter!

HP 21/35, AC 17/12/15, F +3 R +6 W +5, Init +4, Per +4, Bardic Performance Left: 19/20, Spells Left: L1(4), L2(2)

I'll mark off a round or two more of bard song, just to reflect that I kept singing. Oh, and thanks for the +1 rapier!

Left-Ear gave the rapier a few test slashes, grinning his approval through yellowed teeth. "Besmara's teats, now that be a blade! Vanthus won't know what hit him when this spills his rotten guts." He sheathed his old blade and carried the new one in its place.

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Update: PC got hit by virus and it should be operational by tomorrow night so hopefully I will have map up. Thanks for your patience!

HP 28/28, AC 20/14/16, F +5 R +5 W +7, Init +6, Per +9

No worries Lucendar. Ready to resume when your PC is all fixed up!

Your bloodthirsty Master of Ceremonies

Well, I don't know if you guys are still up for this, but I'll give it a try.

Ialda takes the lead down the passage and her keen ears pick up pounding sounds from the NW, where it sounds to her like fist pounding on wood. She leads you through various passages, with the relentless pounding and now moaning sounds getting stronger and creepier. As you get closer, you hear wood cracking until it gives way and then you hear something new and quite unexpected: a human female voice! "Have at thee Burt and you too Montrose! I can't believe you and the rest of this damned crew would turn on me but you will not feast on me tonight! Take that and that! Hahaha!"

As you come down a passageway that opens into a large cavern, you see the woman, a raven-black haired beauty backed into a corner, the remains of a wooden door around her and stacked crates at her side, fighting off 8 "savage" pirates! Pic of Female However, she is intelligent and though she is backed into the corner, only one of the mutated pirates can attack her at a time due to the crates. You see a flurry of rapier slashes and dagger thrusts and one of the savages collapses at her feet dead. Sweat glistening off her forehead, she sees Ialda and Gruug over the pirates' shoulders and she yells out to you, "Oi! You gonna help a lady out and get in this fight??? If not, stay out of me way, buckos. These things are lookin' to die and I plans on obliging!"

Before you can decide whether to help or watch, another group of savage pirates enter from the north led by a female savage (represented by the ghost on the map), moaning, "Where are you, my love, Vanthus? Is that you? I knew you wouldn't leave me! Soooo hungry...please feed me!" She looks hungrily at the party...

Since I did not give the party a surprise round, I give you the initiative in this combat. You may all act first in Round 1.

HP: 45/45 (49/49 raging), AC 16/16/15; F +6, R+2, W+4 Init. +1; Perception +10

Pull and drink potion of Barkskin +3. Combining that with Mage Armor should make AC 18.
