Well, it seems that Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday evenings are best for me. After 7 PM CST would fit into my routine pretty good. I work every Sunday, 6 to 6, switching between day and night shift every week. If we started at or after 7 PM CST I should be able to get settled at home or work before joining up in the chat room. My days off are crazy busy and unpredictable. However I am committed to doing my part. Hey, I'm flexible (No jokes please, just move along). Just in case I haven’t mentioned it here, work has blocked my access to Paizo.com. However I can still get into the chat room. YEAH!

Hey DM Lilith, Why did Gevtodt lose his Renown feat?
PS My apology in advance for not keeping up with all the PRPG releases.
Oh, he didn't. I'm sorry. I sometimes cross off feats on a character sheet that have already been applied elsewhere. My bad! And no worries on keeping up. It's been busy 'round these parts!
Edit: Also, if you could finish fleshing out your background, that would be sweet.
That goes for you too GentleGiant! :D

My sincerest apologies Lilith!
I'm currently down for the count with a nasty ear canal infection, so I'm hooked up on pain meds and even then have a hard time concentrating.
Concerning combat chat times, I can pretty much fit any schedule the group comes up with (ahh, the joys of being an unemployed bum).
I will update everything (including a background) as soon as I'm capable of having a longer train of thought than "Mmmm, food... ouch, can't chew, must go lie down" (which is hopefully later this week!).
Depending on when you decide to run the combat chat I'd also just give "warning" that I'll be attending my brother's bbq birthday bash this upcoming Saturday, although I think I should be home again before a given combat would take place (I'm at GMT+1... or is it +2 with daylight savings? I'll just stick with saying CET then ;-)).

Finished Gevtodt's background story. Sorry it's so long...
I'd rather have your story too long that too short. :)
For Dunzeltoff and Jericho, I seem to have misinterpreted the Spell Point rules ever so slightly (d'oh) for those that prepare spells. As both of you still prepare your spells, you still prepare an extra spell due to your ability scores, as well as receive bonus spell points. Both of you prepare an additional first level spell (bringing your total up to two first level spells).
GentleGiant, whenever you can finish up your background after the pain meds wear off. :)

Thanks Lilith,
Yeah, I hadn't read the latest Alpha-3 version of it, which was updated... You now get to roll every d20 twice taking the best one for 3 whole rounds, not just one roll.
(The Good domain is even better, you add your level to every d20 for 3 rounds, which above 6-8th level gets pretty awesome. Although Luck lets you crit more.)

Totally non game related question.
My wife has a favor to ask.
Hello. My name is Jackie Scarborough. My husband, Russell, has been playing online D & D games with you for quite some time. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. One of my classes this semester is Advanced Multiculturalism. One assignment/project that I have to complete within the next few weeks is an Immersion Project. For this assignment I have to collect information (in various ways) on a culture that I have not been exposed to in any great quantity. I have chosen to investigate the culture of D & D.
One way I would like to collect information is through a dialogue composed of several questions.
If you wouldn’t mind helping her please click here.
PS Nice artwork DM Lilith!

Hey, that's great if you want to draw up a visual impression of any of the NPCs, it's great to get an idea of what YOU are visualizing. It could probably help to get an idea of a location too, sometimes.
(besides maps for combat scenes)
I was going to ask what else Toff knows of Hethra,
but I'm sure you'll reveal it in due course.

ManPig, for Gevtodt's Harrow cards, I actually carry the Harrow Deck with me, so I've been drawing for you in that fashion. There are two methods to Harrowing, a full on reading, or the "draw a single card" from the Harrowed feat.
For the rest of the crew, Harrow readings will come into play for you as well, but in a different manner. More on that later...

I like the way you are doing it. Reading your last game post very enjoyable. If it becomes to much work I can always use the harrowed feat short cut system.

It's not too much work. A full Harrowing requires a bit more preparation, both in-game and out, but it's a fun mechanic. Keeps me on my toes too. :)
And thanks for the compliment! :D

Toff, here's the Three Rings Tavern.

GentleGiant, any update for Matteo...? :(
I've updated my character sheet. Added +2 to strength, added Slings and Thrown Weapons weapon group and reconfigured the skills according to Alpha 3.
Almost done with the background, let me know if there are any specifics you need right away. Here's the gist of it:
Grew up as the son of a prostitute, basically growing up among women of the street in a brothel. Received lots of affection from the other women too, so he feels strongly about protecting women in slightly less fortunate circumstances. Also instilled in him a great love for women and even though he always seem to be courting this or that woman, he always treats them with respect, just like the other 2-3 women he's courting at the same time. ;-)
Growing up among the... ahem, lower income population, he knows about the various local crime lords, including Gaedren Lamm. Although he has no direct connection to him, he knows plenty of people who in some way has crossed paths with Lamm.
Lamm is definitely one of those people the city of Korvosa could do without.

How do you guys feel about GlitterComm or similar mapping tools? I was thinking that it would make the combat rounds a lot easier...or we can go traditional and do all combat by post. My schedule slowly keeps filling up...*shakes fist*

I personally have no experience with GlitterComm, but it's free, so I guess it could work.
I also have a full version of Fantasy Grounds if that's appropriate.| Quandary |
I think its optimal to re-post a map every combat round (when it's not too simple to bother)
showing enemies & PCs at their last stated location.
The players and DM all can rely on everyone having a good spatial grasp of the situation, only needing to 'think' about actions happening after the last map re-post
(a player could request flank help without fretting over deriving grid numbers),
and there's inherently less room for confusion over moves made several rounds previous.
| GM Lilith |
Cool, thanks for the insight Quandary.
Also, it was not mentioned in my initial "here's how I play my games" statement, but I consider a natural 1 a failure, and a natural 20 an automatic success as far as skill checks are concerned. Hence Matteos' miraculous "Catching Yourself When Falling" Climb check. I will occasionally make skill checks for you to move along the story, particularly if it's just one roll, but will save the important rolls for you.

Hey guys, sorry for going MIA for a while. My RAM kicked it the other day and I'm waiting for a new block to arrive so I can actually boot up my computer again. Don't you just LOVE unforeseen (and expensive) expenses?
It should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday. Currently posting this from a friend's place.

Okay, GG. I will run Matteos in the interim, to get him caught up to the rest of the gang.

Hey gang,
I think I'm going to need to bow out. I'm just not "feeling it" like I hoped I would, and I think that's going to take away from the enjoyment of everyone. I think PbP just isn't for me. I've got one other game still running, and the only reason I'm still in it, is because we're almost at the end.
Good luck.

Awww...bummer dude! :( I really enjoy Jericho's character and background - I'll have to keep him handy. :D
Okay, said important info I mentioned: In order to keep things flowing smoothly, I'd like to see a post at least every day, if not more. GentleGiant, I know you're in Denmark, so I'll keep that in mind. If you have not posted within a certain time frame, I will NPC your character. That time frame is 36 hours from the last post to account for time zone differences. I know holidays are coming up in the US this weekend, so I will not expect any posts during that time period.
Alright, off to get a replacement for Jericho...

Harrow Points
For the first adventure, each of you receive three Harrow points from Zellara's reading, which you can use for the following.
- Dexterity rerolls: Spend a point to reroll any one Initiative check, Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dexterity, or Dexterity-based skill check. You must abide by the new result (although you can continue to reroll with additional Harrow Points.
- Dodge Bonus: Spend a point to gain a +1 Dodge bonus to AC for one encounter. You can spend up to 3 Harrow Points in this manner.
- Speed increase: Spend a point to increase your base speed by 10-ft for one encounter - you cannot spend multiple Harrow Points to increase your speed multiple times in one encounter.
Any unspent points are lost at the end of the adventure. In addition, each of you will receive Dexterity-based bonuses at certain points in the adventure (which I will reveal when they come up).

Zarak, she did tell us where she thinks he operates out of: (Haven't you paid attention!? ;-)
Zellara wrote:"I sought help from the Guard, but they turned me away. And so I asked around. I paid bribes. I consulted my Harrow deck for advice. And recently, I was rewarded - I found out where Gaedren dwells. He can be found in an old fishery north of here at Westpier 17, where he trains his abducted children to be pickpockets and counts his stolen treasures," she says, giving a meaningful glance at Jericho.
btw, Welcome Zarak!
I really liked this reading thing, too, Lilith (Harrow points don't hurt, either!)Ah, must have missed that one while I was reading. If you want Lilith you can ignore my last post.
Thanks for the welcome Quandary. I'm really looking forward to this game.
Gotta agree aswell the harrow reading was awesome. I hope I can pick up a thing two about doing readings. Right now I just don't get it.

Gevtodt would be the best person to answer your questions about the Harrow Deck (in-game at any rate). Out of game, of course, is a different matter.
The initial four cards you received represented the four of you in your state before the Harrowing. The four new cards you received represent your role as it regards the question asked. Each question corresponds to a particular suit of cards - these role cards are drawn from that suit. A Harrowing relies upon a 3x3 grid, which represents Past, Present and Future and the cards also correspond to the Nine Alignments. Here's an example:
Positive Past | Positive Present | Positive Future
Unclear Past | Unclear Present | Unclear Future
Negative Past | Negative Present | Negative Future
LG | NG | CG
LN | TN | CN
LE | NE | CE
Now, each of the Harrow cards has a symbol (Hammer, Key, Shield, Book, Star, Crown) which represents the six ability score BUT the position of the symbol on the cards represents its alignment. (Example: The Demon's Lantern is Key card, but the Key symbol is in the "Chaotic Evil" position.)
To perform a Harrowing, the position of the cards is taken into account when explaining the spread. A True Match is when the position of the card in the spread matches the position of the symbol on the card. A Partial Match is when the spread and symbol match on either axis. An Opposite Match is when the card is completely reverse of the symbol's position (Example: If the Demon's Lantern card appeared in the Lawful Good position). Opposite Matches are considered misaligned, which means that they are interpreted reverse of their normal meanings. True and Opposite matches are always interpreted, while Partial Matches are interpreted when there is no True/Opposite match. Cards that do not match are not intrepreted, and I usually flip the cards over so I don't read them.
There you go, Harrowing 101. :D

DM Lilith I was looking over Gevtodt’s character sheet and noticed that you had his age listed as eighteen. When I was originally developing this character I envisioned him being about fourteen. Would changing that be a problem? Also his eyes are yellow and his skin is fair.
Thanks
PS Great game; sorry about being a slacker.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten you guys. Slammed at work, will try to post this evening.
I know the feeling. My Athas game DM (mwbeeler) and I had the following exchange on my return to his game. It seems appropriate.

ALSO:
Hm. I guess it's up to Lilith to figure out how to deal with these two varying approaches to friendliness with our fellow diner here on the balcony.
( I was first though, so there! ;-) )
DM Lilith, could we go in sequence? If you decide my actions should be disregarded that's cool with me. I liked the idea but I'm not married to it. :)
