orcs wait for no man! Botting Jadashi
1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 2 = 25, 1d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
Jadashi moves over to his left taking cover behind a nearby column and firing another arrow, this time at the orc leader. His aim is true, and the shaft catches the orc in the shoulder.
The orc snarls in response.
"You face Mugek, Son of Krun." He bellows, in badly accented common. "I have waited for strong foes!"
He beats his drum again, as he steps towards Kahwen, drawing a wicked-looking blade with a faint bluish glow to it. "Your deaths will give me honor among the Black Suns!"
With those words, and almost no physical effort at all, he slides the blade past the tengu's defenses, sinking it deeply into his side. (8 damage to Kahwen)

Kahwen
|
Kahwen barely has time to celebrate his success before the remaining orc approaches him.
"Ack! Magic swo..." He gets no further before that sword digs into his side. There is a spike of pain and then he feels undeniably woozy. He knows he can't take another hit like that and scrambles to get away, doing a back flip to get out of range of the sword before staggering back toward Liasna.
Acrobatics to avoid AOO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
"I'm hurt again!" He calls to her.
Ugh...I suspect he's not going to get very far...but assuming he doesn't get hit he moves as far toward Liasna as he can.
| EM±GM |
Actually: Correction on my part... I added 1 too many on the damage roll! You will only have taken 7 points of damage.
But, you still had 1 hp of damage from the previous fight...
So we end up in the same place.
8 hp's on the front line is always risky!
Oh, and its a dagger, not a sword... though probably felt like one to Kahwen!
Using acrobatics will count as strenuous activity, and will drop you into negative hp's (and unconscious) ... not counting any AoO yet...
You do however have the option of a restricted withdraw... but will only be able to move 15'
You could also delay, and hope Liasna can give you some hp's (she can channel, and doesn't have to move far to get you in range)... then you'd get your normal round.
Liasna Iradlial
|
Hearing the cry, but unable to actually see the Tengu, Liasna panics a bit, but moves in the direction she heard the voice from. Once she sees Kahwen, she stops - there are no other foes visible to her and going any further might bring enemies into her healing too.
She inhales, exhales, and then calls upon the Dawnflower to give succor to her allies.

heh: ya, like that =)
Liasna is able to get close enough to see the sorely wounded tengu, and calls upon her divine patron to send a wave of healing energy outwards.
The pain in Kahwen's side almost completely goes away... though not all of it. At least the bleeding stops, and he is no longer in danger of keeling over from Mugek's blow.

Kahwen
|
I did not know about the Acrobatics Check being considered strenuous...or the restricted withdrawal. Thanks for both. And being flexible. Oh, and Kahwen is definitely a glass dagger. I generally hope to get a good shot in before being taken out or having to retreat. Still trying to decide if I want to make him more durable as he levels or focus on delivering more damage.
Kahwen cried out to Liasna for help and was about to do something foolish to try to get away from the orc and his dagger (which he could now tell was a dagger. It was just the shocking perspective of it coming right at him that made it look, and feel, like a sword) when she sent a wave of healing energy out.
He sighed in relief as the pain faded to a much more manageable level. Meanwhile Hadza maneuvered closer and delivered a mighty blow with his giant hammer.
"My turn!" Kahwen said, quietly enough it might be lost in the pitched noises of battle as he took a measured step to line the orc up between him and the hammer wielder and swung a carefully aimed blow at the orc's vitals.

Jadashi fires another arrow, but can't quite get a good fix on his target as it goes wide. At the same time, Malvic tries to free himself from the net, but can't quite get untangled... though the materials are crude, the net proves quite effective at its intended task.
Hadza moves in with his polearm ready, taking a mighty swing at the wardrummer in an attempt to draw his attention away from the far more fragile Kahwen. The blow nearly knocks the orc off his feet, as he staggers to the side, a shocked look on his face.
Kahwen attempts to take advantage of the distraction by sticking his own blade into the orc... but it deflects off the armor doing no damage at all.
Mugek snarls in response, as he finds himself suddenly sorely wounded, and surrounded. Once more, he beats a thunderous beat on his drum, then decides to focus on the nearer enemy first, as he thrusts his dagger once again towards Kahwen, this time aiming for his stomach!
But the tengu is ready for him this time, and easily steps aside before the short blade can come anywhere near!

Jadashi looks at Hadza with respect.
"We have a great warrior here. May anyone identify this magical items? I may try to use the wand ... if nobody wants this dagger I will take it ... and his chain shirt looks fine ...
Kahwen
|
Kahwen bows to Hadza, left hand tucked against his chest, right extending his sword out behind him and to the side.
"Indeed, Friend Jadashi, Friend Hadza is a mighty warrior," he agrees.
He looks over the gear from the orc leader. "There is nothing here that interests me, unless that cloak would prove useful to me."
He then casts his gaze back at the battle, looking to see if there is anywhere else they are needed, particularly focusing on the caravan and the archers.

"We still have more to do."
Liasna Iradlial

"Shall we step back a bit to help defend the caravan? From the clamor, it sounds as though they could really use the help." Liasna suggests, gesturing back. "First, though, does anyone require healing?"
Kahwen
|
"Since Mugek was kind enough to leave us a new cure light wounds wand, I could use a dose of healing," Kahwen says to Liasna.
He will then wait (just) long enough for everyone, including himself, to get healed and claim their gear from the drummer before charging back to the caravan.
"As Friend Liasna said, 'back to the caravan!' There are more raiders to repulse!"
Liasna Iradlial
|
"Let's trade then, shall we?" she says cheerily enough, handing Kahwen his want back as she takes up this new wand. Pretty sure I only used it three times?
That said, she turns and promptly taps the Tengu with the wand. "How's that? Need another hit?" Looking to the others, she holds it up, noting, "Since we're about to dive into another fight, it probably won't hurt to top off even if it's only a small scratch. The most vulnerable part of the caravan travels near the base of a cliff where the sounds of ever-louder chanting echo from a shadowy cave.
These orcs, while formidable, appear to be more interested in making off with loot than they are with fighting.

So, instead, he barrels back the way he came, glad he did so when he sees that there is a more immediate threat to the convoy and that Malvic is the only one near enough to stop it any time soon.
