Aam Dunestrider |

Aam holds his head for a moment while the message booms through their brains, but seems to handle it well. "I've come across warnings like this before in the ruins. Unfortunately, either something very weak is trying to appear strong or we are about to be melted by a god. It's basically never in between with something like that. Personally, I'm inclined to think it's something weak because if it were a god that was tempted to just melt us, it'd not bother with a warning before turning us to slag... hopefully."

Aramant Drakkuskail |

I don't particularly like the melting part... But if we can this far, we should continue going. And, maybe, try to dialog with the weaklings or the god we're about to face.
Aramant closed his fists, and small rocks started flying around his feet. He was ready to fight, if it comes to that - even though he was hoping this would be more of an exploration mission.

leinathan |

Just as Aramant and Aam said their pieces, the walls of the maze distort for a moment. The shadows gather and warp, and then about 20' behind the group, they disgorge a monstrous beast. The beast looks like the skeleton of a particularly tall humanoid, but with the midnight of shadow wrapped around it like a suspended, roiling liquid. The creature growls low, and blue-tinged flames flicker at the end of its strangely-shaped hands. It moves to attack!
Aramant: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Aam: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Dargrin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Reginald: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Torgar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
The creature snarls, projecting a thought into each of your minds - 'Your step into territory too great for you reveals the smallness of your minds. Such things do not survive on this world.' before it flicks its hand. A ball of blue-tinged flame appears in its palm, and it hurls the ball at Aramant, who is closest to it.
Ranged Touch (Point Blank Shot): 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 1 = 24 Cold Damage (Point Blank Shot): 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4, 5) + 1 = 16
It goes first, hurling some blue flame at Aramant and dealing 16 cold damage to him. Aramant is grazed, taking a -1 penalty to attack rolls, skills, saving throws, AC and caster level. The whole party is up next.

Dargrin Sweetbreath |

I really like the initiative in the game listing!
Dargrin will move a bit to spread the group out. Reaching out and grabbing a ball of solid wind he'll hurl it at the creature.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 2) + 8 = 11

Aramant Drakkuskail |

Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Not the faintest clue!
Aramant shakes its head, filling the cold, then shoots back at the creature with his earth blast. What looks like a giant Warhammer made of earth flies against the creature, as the geokineticist sees himself surrounded by earth.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 - 1 = 25 PBS, Deadly Aim
Damage: 2d6 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 19 PBS, Deadly Aim

leinathan |

Aramant, per the Wound Threshold rules, you're grazed. This provides a -1 penalty to attack rolls, skills, saving throws, AC and caster level. This makes your Knowledge check a 6, and your attack a 24. Just reminding you.
Reacting quickly, both Dargrin and Aramant sweep pure elemental attacks at the strange creature. Though it is fast, and it attempts to deftly dodge both attacks, it is struck in both shoulders by the dwarves' attacks. It howls in pain, but it only looks angry...
Aramant and Dargrin attack it with their simple blasts, dealing 30 damage. The creature is also grazed.

Torgar the Grotesque |

Startled by the abrupt appearance of the scourge, Torgar sees his foe and intends to meet him. But in this moment he is not yet prepared. He scurries around a corner, trying to gain cover, and begins to manifest the wrath in his blood. Enlarge Person Duergar Racial Ability

leinathan |

Torgar runs around the corner to get a bit of distance between himself and his new foe, and begins to cast a spell that will make him even stouter and stronger than he already is.
Torgar spends a standard action to begin the one-round cast time of enlarge person. It will finish next turn with another standard action.

Aam Dunestrider |

Knowledge planes: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"You ain't from this world either, friend. You'll die all the same."
"It's probably been summoned from the Shadow world if any of ya can banish things like that. Otherwise, we will handle this the classic way."
Aam gives his khopesh a twirl and lets the magic swell up in him and release into his blade. Swift action - arcane pool to enhance weapon, +1 attack/damage for 1 minute.
Then he runs up to the creature, chanting and waving his free hand around to summon a sizzling ball of dark green acid that is pulled onto his blade as he swings at the creature. Move action to close to melee range. Standard action - spellstrike to cast corrosive touch as part of a melee attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Weapon damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Spell damage (acid): 4d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3) = 10
Remaining arcane pool: 5, spell slots: 3/2/1

leinathan |

Aam engages the shadowy creature with a witty remark, swinging a blade infused with magic and with acid, and carves a piece of the creature's shadow-infused flesh away. The creature hisses in pain and locks eyes with Aam.
Aam deals 19 damage to the creature with a corrosive touch spellstrike. It is wounded. Reginald is the last person up.

Reginald Thanthorpe |

Reginald shall move to engage the creature "Come then monstrosity, it is time for you to fall beneath my blade!"
Reginald is challenging the beast! +2 for everyone to hit (Melee Only), +4 for me! -2 AC against anything which isn't the shadow-thing. 1 challenge left.
+1 Falcata: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Potential Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

leinathan |

Reginald gets +4 to damage for challenging a target, not +4 to hit. His allies still get +2 to hit from his order ability, though.
Reginald takes a step forward and swings at the monster that appeared near them - his grip on his weapon is loose, though, and he barely manages to keep a firm hold on his falcata when he swings it, let alone strike the agile creature.
Creature #2 Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
It growls and ignores Reginald in favor of the magus who had struck him. While it attacks Aam, the group can see the disruptions in its shadowy body growing together, healing the wounds that it had already been dealt. Its strange hands morph into razor-sharp claws and it swings two heavy blows at Aam.
Claw vs. Aam (Wounded): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 12 - 2 = 30 Damage: 2d8 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 8) + 8 + (4) = 25
Claw vs. Aam (Wounded): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 12 - 2 = 19 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (1) = 7
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Its first slice nearly puts Aam on the ground, the pahmet dwarf staggering from the pain. The thing's second blow easily fells Aam, while rime spreads over the bloody gashes left by the creature's claws. Meanwhile, near Torgar, the shadows begin to distort in a now-familiar way...
Growling with frustration, Aramant calls up another large rock telekinetically, and launches it at the creature. The creature nimbly steps to the side, lightly rising into the air about a foot as the rock passes by it.
Earth Blast vs. Creature (Point Blank, Deadly Aim, Grazed): 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 = 12
As Torgar is finishing his enlarge spell, a second monster is disgorged by the shadows. It lands heavily, looks up at Torgar, and growls menacingly.
Reginald misses. The monster fells Aam with 27 damage and 5 cold damage. Aramant misses with an earth blast. Another monster appears by Torgar. The party, minus Aramant, is up.

Reginald Thanthorpe |

Apologies its been a whiles since I read through the ability.
"Odds are tilting in the favour of something powe- SHIT AAM's down."
Reginald adjusts his grip slightly and attempts to keep pressure on his now somewhat less threatened foe.
+1 Falcata: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Torgar the Grotesque |

Torgar finishes growing as the monster encroaches upon him. He keeps his wits, and his fists, about him.
I assume that's my standard action, is there anything else I can do with this turn or no?

Aramant Drakkuskail |

Can I see the creature, or any enemies at all? If not, I will move to approach Aam and ready an Earth Blast to when I see the creature (or, if it appears in melee with me, a Devastating Infusion instead). Do I get a +2 on my blasts/infusions from Reginald's order?

leinathan |

It is around a corner with Torgar, so you will need to move to attack it, but you know that it is there. Reginald's order only provides a bonus to creatures that threaten it, which means melee attackers (which includes your devastating infusion). However, the one that Reginald challenged has fled.

Aramant Drakkuskail |

Aramant seems tired, but yet moves his small legs going around the corner to help Torgar, and then attacks the creature as he sees it. A multitude of pebbles aligns close to the dwarven hand, quickly releasing themselves as a block of earth flies on the air.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 = 16 PBS, Deadly Aim, Grazed
Damage: 2d6 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 18 PBS, Deadly Aim

leinathan |

Aramant fires an earth blast towards the creature, but it is blindingly fast and Aramant's reflexes are slowed ever so slightly by the frostbite that the other creature gave him. It sidesteps his earth blast and waves a disgusting, shadowy hand at the group. A burst of particles, visible as a dark grey to the darkvision-using dwarves, flash up and all over Aramant, Dargrin, and Aam.
Each of you make a DC 15 Fortitude save to avoid becoming fatigued. The fatigue will persist until you rest for 2 hours.

Dargrin Sweetbreath |

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Dargrin will bound over to make it hard to catch everybody in a burst again and hurl more wind at the creature.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23 That's up to 45' of jump. I shouldn't need that much.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 = 13

Torgar the Grotesque |

Torgar huffs himself into a crude brawler's stance, and intends to lay the smack down on the beast in front of him.
"WHELL, YER UGLIER THAN ME!"
falcon PUNNNNCH: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
He aims his strike to hit the beastie right underneath its' mouth- or whatever it might consider a mouth. He puts all his newfound weight into it.

Aam Dunestrider |

Aam struggles to pull something from his pack. Breathing heavily and wincing, he manages to get a wand out. He addresses it, "I dunno if I have it in me to get ya to work, but we gotta pick our sorry hide up and get back into it." The dwarf then catches his breath for a few moments before preparing to use the wand.

leinathan |

Aam Fort (Hardy): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27
All three dwarves manage to resist the shadowy creature's spell, with Torgar and Dargrin retaliating with a powerful punch and a blast of air. Torgar, now much larger than the shadowy creature, lays into it with his fist. The creature staggers back a couple of steps.
Torgar and Dargrin deal 22 damage to the creature. It is grazed. Still Reginald. I'll wait another day.

Reginald Thanthorpe |

Reginald moves towards the second beast having assured himself that the first is no-longer in sight.
Reginald only gets 30ft movement on a double move due to his armour so I suspect I wont be able to get into range. I also do not wish to charge and open myself up to counter-attack, If I am in fact, within range.

Aramant Drakkuskail |

Aramant is still grazed, but takes a step and shoots again his kinetic powers against the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 1 - 1 - 1 = 16 PBS, Deadly Aim, Grazed - Precise Shot to help against attacking in melee
Damage: 2d6 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 19

leinathan |

The creature tries to twist away from Aramant's elemental blast, but it smashes into the creature with great force. The creature takes a step back from the force, and then another step forward to lunge at Reginald with a pair of icy claw attacks.
Claw vs. Reginald (wounded): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 12 - 2 = 21
Claw vs. Reginald (wounded): 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 2 = 15
Fortunately for Reginald, his armor protects him very well against this threat, and the injured creature merely scratches up the oread's armor.
The rest of the party is up!

Reginald Thanthorpe |

Standing stout under the powerful blows Reginald attempts a counter-attack.
+1 Falcata: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 I suspect that hits, so here's some damage.
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Aam Dunestrider |

Aam looks at the wand and realizes he's probably too far gone to focus his mind to work it properly. "Well, my ancestors would be stunned to know I died on another world. Best just get it over with." With a curse, he drops the wand, and with his other hand, squeezes the handle of his khopesh blade. Feeling that grip beneath his fingers, he focuses his mind, and murmuring a spell, in a blinding flash he dashes past the creature, his blade striking at it.
Quick Runner's Shirt for extra move action to stand up (pretty sure I described him crawling on the ground). Then Bladed Dash to attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 4 - 3 = 21 +4 Int bonus from Bladed Dash, -3 penalty for being critical
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Aam staggers for a moment before collapsing on the ground.
Standard action while disabled hurts him 1 hp and leaves him unconscious and dying.

Torgar the Grotesque |

Torgar braces himself. He didn't have time to manifest into his druidic forms, but hoped that his own strength would be sufficient. He doubles down on his bets and strikes the monster before him with one punch.
PUNCH: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 111d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Then realizing the state of affairs before him, Torgar tries to withdraw, making distance between himself and the beast, so he can begin manifesting some weaponry of actual use.

leinathan |

Even such a monstrous beast as this shadow-creature cannot stand up to a continuous onslaught of four fairly competent dwarves. After Torgar and Reginald get some good hits in, Dargrin blasts the beast with a powerful gust of air - it staggers back, wounded and ready to retreat. Then, Aam flashes by with a burst of color and speed, and delivers the final blow.
Combat over! Aam falls unconscious.

Aam Dunestrider |

Con check DC 10: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 1 = 11
Hey, at least I'm stable and no longer dying. :) But I have this amusing image of him waking up hours later left for dead alone on an alien planet. It's "The Martian" but with more dwarves and monsters!

Reginald Thanthorpe |

Reginald glances about the place scanning for more foes, he checks on Aam.
"He doesn't seem to be bleeding that badly but I sure hope one of you has some magical healing."
Reginald shall stand watch as the others sort Aam.
Perception if required below.
