Game Master bwatford

The PCs are all townsfolk from the wilderness village of Dundraville. For the past few years, an ogre that lairs in a nearby cave has extorted goods from the town, in exchange for not attacking or destroying town property. Up until now, the ogre's demands have been ale, sheep, and mundane supplies. The townsfolk complied, and the ogre never bothered them. But last month, the ogre's demands included gold and building supplies. This set the townsfolk on edge and then, just last week, the ogre returned to town two weeks early to demand more ale, gold, and, even worse, captive townsfolk! The good folk of Dundraville decided something had to be done. They put together a plan to spike the ogre's ale with poison, but when they delivered the ale to the ogre without any prisoners in tribute, the ogre flew into a rage. The brute dragged two townsfolk off to its cave, to be eaten for sure. The ogre's reign of terror must be stopped. Six brave citizens of the town have banded together with a plan to put an end to the evil ogre's villainy!

Bowen raises his eyebrows too.

"That- that could help. A lot. Good job, short stack."

Casimir looks at Darly and smiles"Of course, if you really want justice however, how about you join us? You can take the ogre's head yourself."

Darly casualty looks over at the young Lord Casimir and winks slyly at him. Then leaning over the table where more than amble cleavage was quite apparent and on display she says...

"Dis body is not built for combat young wan. dis body wus built for other things than killin' ogres an' such."

Anya'drea's head flares up as she snaps back out of her daze, having been fixated on the wand she was just holding, along with the possibilities of other magic items she could maybe nab back at her master's place. An idea she quickly shuts down herself, taking 1 is one thing, but abusing it would go against her conscience.

"Ah! Yes my lord, I'm sorry I was lost in thoughts..." she says, slightly embarrassed as she switches seats to join with the rest of the group and the heavily accented Darly.

"Of course."

Seeing that her point had been made, Darly sit back from leaning over the table and re-adjusted her clothing.

"Oi 'ill leave yer al' ter it den, oi 'av an inn ter run an' a buff an' blister ter attend ter."

With that said Darly rises from the table and walks off toward the bar.

So the task lay ahead of the group, they needed to find out if any of the other members knew of any secrets to Skulltop Hillock as Newt did and then needed to round up what they could from everyone in town and get on the road. The longer they tarried the more likely that Darly's sister would become the Ogre's lunch.

"Anyone know where Bec is? I'm going to go look for him. Be back soon."

Bec is in the inn..... Look back a few post.

Quote:
Bec rushes into the Merry Riot, nearly bowling over a townsman in his haste. A few pieces of straw stick out at odd angles from his hair and clothing, and he nearly trips over the haft of his spear as he keeps moving through the room. When his eyes alight on Bowen and Lord Casimir, he breathes a loud sigh of relief and rushes to the table. Oh thanks to all the gods in the heavens he grins. I thought you'd leave without me. Seeing the others food, he sinks into a free chair. Got a Stout for me Darly? I've a mighty thirst!

I see no one has posted today, so I will simply insert the game clock update here.

DMPCing Casimir until his return.

Removing his pack and siting it beside the table Casimir smiles at the group. The first thing I suggest is that we all take inventory of what resources we have and or might need to combat the Ogre. I have rounded up a few but I suggest we make a list before we head over to Kerwin's Outfitters and see what Kerwin will let us tak.... I mean what Kerwin will donate to the freedom and liberation of Dundraville from the ogre's oppression."

In reality the young Casimir had procured a few items from his mom and his family estate. He really was not sure what they needed to combat the ogre besides a weapon but wanted to look like the leader he wanted to be and did not want to show any weakness to his new comrades.

Lord Casimir begins to run down a list out loud to the group. "I have procured a top quality bullseye lantern and three flask of oil in case the ogre's cave is dark or to set fire to the place if need be. I also have three vials of the most holiest water available." he proclaimed.

He wasn't sure at all how the holy water could be of use against a ogre but he made it sound special by all accounts.

"I also have brought along no less than five of the most purest of silver tipped arrows that will pierce the toughest heart." he continued to boast.

Again he didn't know how the silver arrows was going to be of use but he didn't really know why his mother insisted he take them, she had said 'Months ago, I saw the strangest thing. A large dog attacked a rat in town. The bite should have cut the rat in half, but instead had no effect. With a single bite from the rat, the dog fled." she had insisted that the rat was a lycanthrope and would only be hurt by the silver arrows.

With that the young lords voice lowered, "Unfortunately in my haste to protect the town from the menace, I did not grab any tindertwigs or any flint & steel to light the lantern or the oil with. Someone please make a note on our request list for Kerwin that we need to have a few tindertwigs allotted to us for burning the ogre's lair to the ground. For it is vital to our true and just and honorable cause." he says and then pauses and looks at the rest of you.

"So, what have the rest of you brought to this noble quest?" he stated with a big cheesy grin.

Ah it was the weekend GM. Have mercy :)

Darly's brazen attempts to seduce the young human noble evaporates Mischa's improving opinion of her and replaces it with her familiar disdain for the town and its inhabitants. Pressing her lips tightly together in a disgusted expression she almost misses what young human noble said.

Am I to be saddled with all of these foolish children?

I have a connection to the woods of this place that would put all your scouts, save Bowen, to shame child. If it comes to violence I am a fair shot with the bow. Before we head to the Skulltop we should pay a visit to the hermit Tarik. He tried to deal with the ogre by himself when it first came to this area and might be able to provide help or at least advice.

"Tindertwig? I have plently of those, though I don't have a flint and steel to light them. I also have some alchemist's fire and some thunderstones and some rope and some sunrods and some weapons." Newt says in an impossibly long breath.

Are all the weapons Newt carries of small size?

Male Human Warrior 1| HP 10/10 | AC 19 T 12 FF 17 | Fort 4 Ref 2 Will 1 | Init 2 | Per 1

Bowen scratches at the stubble beneath his chin.

"It's not so much the heart I'm concerned with piercing as the brute's hide," he says, "That's why my arrows are tipped with steel."

"And if I have to get close with him, there's always this." Bowen unslings the battle axe from his shoulder and places it on the table top. In the dim light of the inn, one could just make out the runes engraved on its head.

"Though I'd prefer to keep my distance. I hear tell that the ogre can split a man's skull like a gourd with one swing of his club."

Showing his quiver to Bowen. "I also have steel tipped arrows. A shield and my breastplate should I become engaged face to face with the beast."

He swallows hard when Bowen makes the comment about the club.

Turning back to Newt. "Could I persuade you to let me carry a few of the tindertwigs in case I need them for my lantern and oil? and I still believe we should pick up some flint & steel at the Outfitter's just in case our tindertwigs get wet."

Tindertwigs do not need flint & steel to light, they work like matches. With a tindertwig it is only a standard action to light a held torch. It is a full round action to light it with flint & steel.

"Sure! You can have three." Newt replies.

Are all the weapons Newt carries of small size?

And I had not realized that about the tindertwig. I guess I should have looked it up long ago! Haha, silly me!

All Newts weapons are considered small size.
Newt -3 Tindertwigs
Casimir +3 Tindertwigs

Taking the three tindertwigs from Newt, Casimir stores them in his pouch.

"Thank you my good fellow. You shall make a fine addition to our group of Dundraville liberators." he says with a smile.

He then looks around at the rest of the bunch. He leans over and plucks the straw from Bec's hair and brushes some off his shoulder. He then looks at Bec and says...

"Bec, stop staring at Darly and focus on the task at hand."

He knew the boy was very shy around women but that awkward stare with his mouth slightly agape told the story more than words ever could.

Turning back to the group, "Well lets not everyone speak at once." he says with a chuckle.

In reality Casimir was concerned for a few members of the group, especially Anya’drea who had given such a brazen display with the wand when she had first came into the inn. He needed everyone to be focused and on task, but a few still seemed distracted and he still didn't know much about the witch or whatever she was, all he knew is that Bowen insisted she come along and that was fine by him.

"Of course I'd be glad to help, if you want I also possess some tinder-twigs if you have a better idea of what to do with them. And now while I'm no swords-woman nor do I possess skills at using a bow, I do know how to use some of the magic items I have on me, especially my wand. It can cast a simple spell, nothing too flashy or powerful sadly, but it does shoot bolts of energy that never misses it's mark, that I can guarantee. I also have some scrolls, one of them can be used to detect hidden doors, I do think it might prove useful, no? The only problem is that the spells might fizzle, but I do think I'm good enough to make use of them"

Turning to Anya "What exactly do you mean by fizzle?" he says as one of his eyebrows arches up inquisitively.

Very comforting Mischa says not bothering to hide her sardonic tone. If we wish to not waste any more time. We should take care of whatever we need to in town and then move out and visit Tarik on the way to the skulltop.

Who would know about the druids? Should visit them as well but I don't know if Mischa would be aware of them

Bec snapped his mouth shut, color rushing to his cheeks. As you say, m'lord, sorry m'lord, sorry Darly, didn'realize I was starin'.
The young man took a hefty swallow of stout and ate nearly half the mutton on his plate with a single bite. He chewed quickly, washing down the meat with more beer, but failed to wait until he had finished chewing to speak again. The farmers and crofters are all sayin' there's more'n more wolves comin' down from the hills than any've seen in living mem'ry, m'lord. We'll have a cold, cold winter, see if we don't. Flecks of stout and half chewed mutton winked from his open mouth and he swallowed hastily, wiping the foam from his lips with the back of his hand. I dunno much 'bout no magic er fizzlin', but jus' let me at tha'ogre, m'lord. We'll knock 'im down a peg 'er two. 'S prob'ly a good idear ta talk ta Tarik tho', an I like havin' Bowen with'us, wouldn'mind another fightin' man though, beggin' yer lordship's pardon.

"I'm sure the ogre has something to do with the wolves, Bowen says. He nods his head in Mischa's direction. "Like Mischa says, it's coming here has knocked the nearby lands out of their natural balance."

"Let's talk with whoever you all please," he continues, stowing the axe again. "But the sooner we get going, the sooner we can take care the beast, and the sooner things can get back to normal."

Lord Casimir ponders the conversation for a moment before responding.

"So where do all of you think we should visit first? The Outfitter's,? or see if the druids at the standing stones can be of any assistance? We may even get the brothers at the brewery to chip in some coin, seeing that one of them owns part of this inn and may be interested in aiding us for the return of Darly's sister."

He then turns back to Anya "What other trinkets might we get from the wizards tower that might aid us. Surely you have access to many potions and items of power?"

Mischa The Witch of the Woods wrote:

It just so happens that there is currently a druid at the circle. A female half-elf named Sheryn-ella. She has spent the past few days and nights pruning vegetation and collecting mistletoe during the full moon.

I don' hold truck with no druids, m'lord, but if'n you wan'talk to 'em, I'll guard yer back 'gainst 'em, beggin' yer pardon Miss Mischa. Bec nods as he finishes off his plate and ale in huge bites and gulps. Talkin' t'the druid, an Tarik too, an the brothers o'course, as yer lordship says, an then a bit of outfittin' as needs be. Sounds a fine plan, m'lord. I've rope, spikes, an' hammer fer a bit a'climbin' if we need it, an' flint'n steel fer fire. Then, he finishes with a nasty grin, spear an' axe fer tha'brute.

Mischa doesn't bother to respond to the loutish and rude latecomer and stands brushing herself off. The brewers first, then the outfitters, then we make our way out of town to see the druids and Tarik. Having said this she strides out the door and exits the inn.

Once outside she stands and closes her eyes for a moment to take a deep breath.

Must be calm, will not have to put up with them after the ogre is dealt with

Bowen follows Mischa out of the inn.

In Elven:
"We tend to fear what we don't understand - humans, I mean."

He takes a step forward so that he stands shoulder to shoulder with the elf.

In Elven:
"We're all of us scared of the ogre, what it's coming might mean."

Elven:
If one fear what one does not understand than surely the wise act would be to seek to understand it? Why continue cowering in ignorance?
Mischa snaps before sighing
Elven:
Sorry Bowen, you know I do not like it here. Let us acquire what we can and move on.

Everyone ok with going to the brewer's next?

"Come on Bec.." Casimir says as he gathers his gear and heads out the door following the other two.

In reality he wondered how he had lost control of the group. But it was good that they were finally moving in the right direction.

Male Human Commoner 1 / HP 11(11) / AC 14, T 11, FF 13 / CMD 14 / Fort +4 Ref +1 Will -1 / Init +1 / Per +3

M'lord. Bec nods as he looks longingly at all the food that remains on the table, and swiftly gathers up a few more pieces of mutton, before finishing his tankard and following Casimir.

Brewer's is fine, but I'd rather save the outfitting for last, once we have the best idea of what we'll need. Also adding a few pieces of mutton to my inventory sheet, if that's ok.

The newly formed group of would be ogre slayers head off from the inn toward the brewery. The group gets the occasional whisper from other town residents as they pass. Once they reach the small brewery and step inside the strong odor of ale and spirits is almost overwhelming to the senses. After waiting a few moments with the girl at the front counter a male halfling comes from the back, he introduces himself as Berk, part owner of the Berkclay Brewery.

---------------------
Current Location: Dundraville: Berkclay Brewery, Time: 6:21 am

"Wot can I do ya for? Berk ask inquisitively.

"Weneedstufftofighttheogre!" Newt says with rapid excitement.

Berk looks at Newt square in the eye and says "Calm daahhhn me brother. 'whoo is garn ter Read and Write the bloody ogre? ya mean awl of ya 're garnn up there?"

Berk looks confused at the group as he thinks to himself if this is the group he had rumors of the evening before. The volunteers to go after the ogre, but what did reading and writing have to do with it?.

Looking at Berk Casimir speaks up. "Please pardon my friends zeal, but he and the rest of us are about to head up and take care of the ogre problem, and rescue the damsel in distress. Which I believe to be one employed by you at the inn if I am not mistaken."

He then shifts his tone to that of a diplomat. "We have come seeking any information that you may possess about our foe and any help you may have to offer in the way of better equipping ourselves for the task at hand. Surely a spry businessman like yourself would have something to offer to help, lets just say 'save' the town."

He then puts his hand on the halflings shoulder "Imagine how thankful the town residents might be if they knew that Berkclay Brewery had a hand in slaying the menace. Imagine the extra kegs of ale you might sell during the celebration. Imagine the business that it will bring into the Merry Riot inn."

Mechanics:

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Speaking to Casimir "I clock your point." he says with a smile.

"I been on the straight and narra for a while na so I daan't suppose I will be needin' these anytime soon. but understand they 're a loner and I expect em back." he says as he pulls a set of expensive looking high quality thieves tools out of his pouch and sets them on the table.

"But that is aw I 'ave ter offer, who's ale do ya think we spiked wif the poison and gave ter the ogre yesterday? Spiked it up real good, e is in for a 'ell of a 'angover." he chuckles.

OOC:
The set of Thieves' Tools are Masterwork. Just let me know who is getting them.

What should the effects of your poison be? Mischa asks in Common.

Male Human Commoner 1 / HP 11(11) / AC 14, T 11, FF 13 / CMD 14 / Fort +4 Ref +1 Will -1 / Init +1 / Per +3

Bec scratches his head and looks at the tools arrayed on the table. Any idear on how ta use those? he asks Newt.

Looking at Mischa, Berk responds "It's summin I could make in a 'urry. the ale is laced wif violet rust poison, it's mild especially for 'is size. should effect 'is strengf and reflexes 'owever."

Berk wasn't real sure how exactly the concoction would effect the ogre. He knew in a normal sized human it would make them weaker and slower than usual and the alcohol intensified the effect. However with the ogre's size he didn't know to what extent the ogre would be effected and for how long after he drank some the effects would last.

He then speaks up again "Wot time of day do ogres drink' and get drunk? that would be the bloomin' time ter catch 'im in a weakened condition."

Female Elf Adept/1| HP 6/6 | AC 15 T 13 FF 12 | Fort 0 Ref 3 Will 6 | Init 3 | Per 6

Knowledge Nature seems to be the appropriate one

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Mischa:

Violet Rust Poison can do a maximum damage of -2 strength and -2 dexterity, it requires 2 saves. It's effects would only last a few hours after the poison was consumed, probably about the same length as the alcohol would which would lower his will saves and dex as well.

Female Elf Adept/1| HP 6/6 | AC 15 T 13 FF 12 | Fort 0 Ref 3 Will 6 | Init 3 | Per 6

Uh, what if he don't drink it up? Bec knits his brows in frustration, and his mouth works soundlessly for a moment, the wheels of thought churning in his head. Could we smear it on a blade? Stick it in him and make him sick?

Looking at Bec while cocking his head sideways Berk responds "'eaven and 'ell, I daan't kna why 'e would 'ave requested ale if 'e daan't drink it."

He then ponders Bec's suggestion but only for a moment.

"The bloody poison just daan't work that way me big fella."

OOC:

Ogre drinking habits are random at best.

Then turning his attention back to the group "Where to next? The outfitter's or the druids circle of stones?"
