Not sure if I need a save for a breather but included.
I hadn't thought of that, but since you're intentionally trying to recover your wind, rather than do stuff that exerts you more, I'd say no. I'll have to clarify that in the Intro. In any event, if you don't move, you can stay in your stance.
Given his condition, Jaegr foregoes a futile attempt at counterattacking, and instead focuses his mind and gathers his strength.
Kelgan up. (I recommend you shield other on Jaegr, and remember that, when you're doing that, you can use your immediate action to take all damage from one blow for him, rather than the usual half, if needed.)
Kelgan Cragbelly |
Kelgan, seeing the desperate turn the fight has taken, curses and slips the egg back into his belt pouch. Reluctantly, he lets the corpse slide to the floor and draws out his glaive. He sets shield stance on Jaegr and tries to trip Obmi.
Trip, LW, inspired: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 - 1 + 2 = 16
Kirth Gersen |
Obmi sneers at Kelgan, although the demoralizing effect is somewhat ruined by the comical effect of the netting over his face. Still, he seems unimpressed with Kelgan's glaive.
Cricket thinks he has the pesky gnome pinned down, but it's hard to tell, because the real gnome and the image seem to flicker and merge a lot, so it's like playing a shell game -- one that Wolvie is anxious to play!
1d2 ⇒ 2
They both pounce on what Cricket thinks is the real target, and in a well-coordinated blitz, they manage to destroy the last image.
The gnome, blinking rapidly, realizes he's about to get trounced. Having held his action previously, he uses it now, babbling a spell, and vanishes from sight.
Caspian Barefoot |
Caspian seeing that Obmi is sething in anger and Jaegr is wounded does the most sensible halfling thing he can do.
"Oops! I got a picnic emergency, this pig roast is still going to happen."
He activates his ring of invisibility and gets behind both Kelgan and Jaegr.
DM
He then begins to use wand charges to sneakilyheal Jaegr.

Kirth Gersen |
Having been stymied by Caspian twice, the bandit chieftain is keeping tabs on the little hobbit and is well aware of what Caspian is doing. Still, facing a healthier-looking Jaegr and Kelgan singlehandedly, and deprived of half of his attacks, he's not really in a position to do anything about it. Accordingly, he makes a last-ditch effort to finish off Jaegr so that he can take care of the other two.
Using a trick you haven't seen from him before, he attempts to catch the mighty dwarf off-guard with some kind of swift-action feint: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Jaegr Sense Motive (DC 12): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Obmi then attacks from an unexpected direction with that murderous pick (vs. AC 22): 1d20 + 14 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 14 - 2 = 201d6 + 11 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 11 + (1, 1) = 181d20 + 14 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 14 - 2 = 201d6 + 11 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 11 + (2, 4) = 20
Had Jaegr still been at the edge of consciousness, as he was few seconds ago, Obmi's blows would have connected with murderous effect. As it is, only a bit of shock gets through the plates of his ceramic armor.
(18/2 - 2 = 7) + (20/2 - 2 = 8) = 15 damage total; half to Kelgan = 7, with the remaining 8 applied to Jaegr himself; Jaegr still has 34 hp. Kelgan, please keep track of your current hp as well! And Jaegr, it's back to you alreasy, then Kelgan.

The gnome, blinking rapidly, realizes he's about to get trounced. Having held his action previously, he uses it now, babbling a spell, and vanishes from sight.
Any chance at AOOs?
If so,
W: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Kirth Gersen |
Any chance at AOOs?
Depends. If I'm reading it correctly, it looks like you and Wolvie used your immediate actions to provide flanking for each other (+6, +2 from Caspian's inspiration, +2 from flanking = +10). In that case, barring Combat Reflexes, you've got no immediate actions left this round for AoOs or disrupting casting.
Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
Jaegr attacks once more, invigorated with the healing magic from Caspian. He continues to pound against Obmi's armor, battering the hill dwarf inside.
Power Attack with Crushing Blow in Stone Stance: 1d20 + 10 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 2 - 1 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 16 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 1 = 18 Half damage again I assume
Temporary Hit Points: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Status HP 21/42 (5 Temp) AC 26
Kirth Gersen |
Actually, I had forgotten about Caspian's inspiration. Wolvie and I are (were?) under the effects of a bull's strength spell.
Aha! Then let's assume +2 from bull's strength, +2 from the inspiration, and that frees up your immediate actions to disrupt spellcasting.
Casting Defensively (DC 10 + Cricket's BAB + 2 for Wolvie = 15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 15 + 5 = 23
Kelgan Cragbelly |
Also, Jaegr gets and extra +1 AC and Ref from my Shield Other stance.
Before Obmi's Attacks:
HP 19/42 (Lightly Wounded)
AC 32-1 = 31
When we discussed Shield Other much earlier, the consensus was that DR applied individually for both parties. If that's still the case:
Attack 1 is 18/2 = 9 -> 5-2 = 3 to Jaegr. 4-4 = 0 to Kelgan.
Attack 2 is 20/2 = 10 -> 5-2 = 3 to Jaegr, 5-4 = 1 to Kelgan.
After Obmi's Attacks:
HP 18/42 (Lightly Wounded)
AC 32-1 = 31
Kelgan interposes himself forcefully, interfering with the bandit chieftain's attacks. He continues to sheild Jaegr, attempting another trip. His offense is weak, as he is still somewhat shaken by his near-death at the hands of the crossbowmen.
Trip: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 1 + 2 = 11

Thanks! I'd been looking for that and hadn't found it yet. One of these days I really need to update the master docs and post them somewhere...
Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
I've been forgetting Caspian's inspiration as well. That would give Obmi +3 more damage over my last three "misses", not that that matters much over all. Also with less damage I wasn't lightly wounded last round so I did 1 more damage, but halved and rounded down is still ends up the same. (8)
Status HP 23/42 (5 Temp) AC 27
Kirth Gersen |
That would give Obmi +3 more damage over my last three "misses", not that that matters much over all.
In light of that, then:
Jaegr's repeated battering, even softened by armor, is still nothing to sneer at, and Obmi is finally beginning to show signs of tiring.Obmi is lightly wounded.
Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid |
As the gnome disappears to the chagrin of the Dynamic Duo, Cricket drops his staff and blindly tries to feel for the invisible gnome. If he feels him, he will try to grapple him and get Wolvie to attack.
On the off chance that this works:
W: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Kirth Gersen |
The gnome is quick and slippery, but Cricket is faster still. Before the little illusionist can crawl away and escape, a goblin hand falls on his arm and grabs hold -- and gnomes, being only 3 feet tall, are easy to hold on to. Cricket notices that this one is quite weak and subdues him easily, despite his invisibility. Good thing he was prone and unable to take a 5-ft. step!
Wolvie, happy to be playing again, gets in a solid bite.
Kirth Gersen |
1d4 ⇒ 1 Wyvurn's stunning wore off last round, and as of this one, his vision returned, as he knew from experience it would. As it happens, he is in a good position to help Cricket and Wolvie; alternatively, he can easily leap over the banister of the stairs and move to support the heavily-armored Dwarven Duo.

I forgot the -2 grapple penalty for size (I think, for some reason I can't access the PRD at the moment), but I also forgot the +2 bonus from Caspian again, so hopefully it all washes out.
Wyvurn |
Annoyed by the gnome, Wyvurn draws his sword and attempts to chop him in half channeling his ki into the blow.
Sword attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 + 4 = 231d8 + 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + (1, 1) + 6 = 91d100 ⇒ 741d100 ⇒ 15
'Hold still you slippery lawn ornament while I give proper thanks for allowing me to fully heal'
Kirth Gersen |
Tired of Jaegr being shielded by Kelgan, and realizing that finishing the mountain dwarf quickly may be beyond his powers, as long as Jaegr continues to have strong support, Obmi switches targets, trying to catch Kelgan off-guard by doing so.
Bluff for skill trick: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 12 - 1 = 23 (DC 12 Intuition negates)
Pick: 1d20 + 14 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 14 - 2 - 1 = 121d6 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 - 1 = 161d20 + 14 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 14 - 2 - 1 = 231d6 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 1 = 11
Sneak attack, if feint works: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 72d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
Kelgan, behind his shield, is a much more difficult target than Obmi had realized. Half damage, with DR: (16/2 - 4 = 4) + (11/2 - 4 = 1) = 5 damage total; add 6 more if Kelgan's Intuition save to defeat the distract assailant trick fails.)
Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
"Give up now and you may yet live." Jaegr brings his pick axe around for a another blow.
Power Attack with Crushing Blow in Stone Stance: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 2 = 25
Temporary Hit Points: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Status HP 29/42 (3 Temp) AC 27
Kirth Gersen |
Obmi grins without humor, trying to hide a grunt as yet another blow hammers against his mail coat.
"Live?" he says. "I'd rather not! If I live and fail, Anasovin turns my soul into a twisted thing, to be tortured for eternity. If you kill me, I'm free of that bastard."
Wyvurn |
Wyvurn, realizing that Cricket has things well in hand, springs off of the landing and into the fray with the dwarves.
Going to assume we are all within 20' of each other. Use accelerated movement to move at full speed.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Charge with sword and fist: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 121d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (1, 1) = 91d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 171d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Well maybe it looked good, at least
Kirth Gersen |
Wolvie continues using the gnome as a chew toy; there's a lot of blood now, and it's pretty clear that he's heavily wounded. "Wait!" he whispers. "Don't kill me! I'll be good! But don't let Obmi see me surrender!"
Caspian continues wielding his wand, helping Kelgan recover.
Wyvurn quickly eyes the possibilities. By going back down the stairs, then turning and racing to where Jaegr and Kelgan are standing, he'd arrive too late to aid his friends. However, by vaulting the railing, he drops very close to where they're already standing. Moving at an impressive parkour-like speed, he jumps, lands, moves, and attacks, almost in a single movement; unfortunately, his infamous "flurry of misses" earns its name when he gets there.
Kirth Gersen |
Obmi, perhaps aware that Kelgan is being healed, attacks him with redoubled fury.
1d20 + 14 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 14 - 1 = 211d6 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 11 - 1 = 121d20 + 14 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 14 - 1 = 191d6 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 11 - 1 = 12
His luck is no better than Wyvurn's, however, and he leaves himself at the mercy of Jaegr's pick.
Jaegr "Knock Knock" |
Jaegr says to Obmi's wish to not surrender, "Then so be it. "Jaegr continues to slam his pick axe into Obmi's armor, battering him with the force of his blows.
Power Attack with Crushing Blow in Stone Stance: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 16 + 2 = 20
Temporary Hit Points: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Status HP 31/42 (5 Temp) AC 27
Kelgan Cragbelly |
Status: HP 14/42 (LW) AC 32, Fatigued (Ignoring 4 rounds)
Caspian's timely healing restores Kelgan's flagging morale and he again asserts himself. Aware of his foe's superior stability, he drops his glaive and fishes out a firebomb. Aware that hurling the volatile bottle at point-blank range will leave him momentarily vulnerable, he focuses and tries to minimize his exposure.
Endurance, ignore fatigue: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 1 = 24 4 rounds
Firebomb (touch), inspired, in melee: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 - 4 = 152d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 1 splash to all adjacent. DC 17 ref @ Obmi or repeats 1 round.
Kirth Gersen |
Obmi starts to grin when he sees that his enemies are reduced to firebombing themselves in an effort to lay him low -- but his grin fades immediately when he realizes that his entanglement and flagging endurance prevent him from avoiding Kelgan's flask. He howls as the fire erupts over him, and by the time he attempts to minimize the damage, you can see his burns and realize he is heavily wounded.
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 2 - 3 = 13
The realization reaches him that his entanglement and injuries are more serious than he would admit to himself, and are now certain to be his undoing: he is unable to extinguish the flames, despite his evasion and normally excellent reflexes.
EDIT 1: The one saving grace for Obmi is that spells just aren't what they used to be. Back in his day, the fire would have also ignited the remanants of Caspian's grease -- the pool that Obmi happens to be standing in. Luckily for Obmi, grease hasn't been flammable since 2000 or so.
EDIT 2: Wyvurn -- this is your chance to re-earn your epithet by braving the flames and killing Obmi yourself, stealing the victory from the two dwarves!
Wyvurn |
Wyvurn wades in, ignoring the flames, and hacks viciously at Obmi.
Sword Flurry Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 131d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 281d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 102d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Sword Attack Confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 141d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Kirth Gersen |
Wyvurn sees his opening and takes it. His furious slashing largely misses the mark, but one blow lands squarely. It's not the instantly lethal throat slice he'd intended, but it still strikes Obmi squarely in the temple, dropping him to the floor, cloak and breeches still burning.
