Ian's first attack misses by an inch but the second lands true, the reverse being for Uriel's attacks, the creature seems to take notice a lot more of Uriel's second set of attacks. It retaliates by gathering a ball of dark energy in one of its hands

swift action: ranger's focus
Ranger (Guide) Focus 1/day: Swift action to choose focus target and it remains so until reduced to 0 or fewer hit points or Uriel changes focus. Gains +2 to attack and damage against target.
Still in effect: paladin's smite
Paladin Smite Evil 1/day: Swift action to choose one target within sight to smite. If evil adds +2 (Cha) to hit and +2 (Pal lvl) to damage against the target. The damage bonus is +4 (2x lvl) vs. Outsiders with the evil subtype, evil dragons, and undead. Automatically bypasses targets DR. Also gains +2 (Cha) deflection bonus to AC vs target of smite.
As a player, I am still unsure as to whether or not to add the additional damage (+6 as opposed to +3) It would make things easier to receive a clarification on that, thanks.
