Denche
Denche looks at the others in confused amazement. "What in the nine hells was that?!" Then chugs the rest of his ale, trying to calm down.
"Am I the only one that doesn't know this man?"
Mayhap I'm lucky to be a half-orc today, lest I could've gotten propositioned too!
Ariza Zanimila
"Hmmm..."
She strokes Rezzin's ear, winks at Sorin, and watches as the man runs out the door.
"Who is Vorel? And why did he run away? I was just starting to warm up to him"
OMG the dice on this board HATE me!!
Rak Opal
Rak chuckles to himself at the fun they had, then answers Denche. "I don't know who he was, either, but I've been around enough to know that he couldn't be who he claimed to be; the Foxglove line ended when old Vorel died some 30 years back. So he's a pretender of some sort." He was an odd one, though.... Shaking his head slightly, he continues. "I'm surprised he ran off so quick, though. You'd think he'd have a story prepared for when he was caught out, especially when impersonating a famous noble family."
Ariza Zanimila
"Should I send Rezzin out to follow him? Hmmm ... I think I will. I'll tell him to be a little more discreet this time, however; well, as discreet as a monkey can be anyway", she says with a smile.
She speaks quietly to the monkey. Rezzin jumped down and ran out the door after the screaming noble-pretender.
Denche
"He had a chance and took it, the little fire was a nice excuse. I have a nagging feeling it won't be the last time we have to deal with him."
... and not due to the size of this village.
He scratches the upper part of his cheek and continues: Trickster or not, surely you're not the only one to know the Foxglove line has ended? Why do the others tolerate him? Something is fishy.
DM Mathpro
Really...warming up to him...really a fire pun...that was bad Ariza -10 cool points lol j/k
Hope you guys don't mind me moving on. Feel free to wrap up any loose ends in spoilers with each other but this seemed like a good point to jump ahead.
Ariza you don't know much about the foxglove family unfortunately. its several hours before Rezzin returns but when you wake in the morning he's back. The next morning you all awake to the sound of the gathering crowd. Sorin, Rak, and Denche you have headaches this morning but are no worse for wear than that. You all make your way outside to the street. The throngs of people seem to be heading towards a stage with a podium that has been erected in the street. As you find your respective spots in the crowd you are amazed at the turnout for the opening speeches.
Four keynote speakers each deliver short but well-received welcomes to the festival. Mayor Deverin’s friendly attitude and excitement prove contagious as she welcomes visitors to town and jokes about how even Larz Rovanky, the local tanner (and notorious workaholic) managed to tear himself away from the tannery to attend, much to everyone’s amusement (except Larz’s). Sheriff Belor Hemlock brings the crowd down a bit with his dour mood, his reminder to be safe around the evening’s bonfire, and his request for a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the fire that claimed the town’s previous church several years ago. The next speaker is scheduled to be local nobleman Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but a sudden illness has prevented him from attending the ceremony (this isn’t something that surprises the locals, given Lonjiku’s well-known dislike of frivolity and festivals). Sandpoint’s own showman Cyrdak Drokkus is more than up to the challenge of bringing the crowd’s mood back up with his rousing anecdotes. He delivers a not-completely-irreverent recap of the long process the town went through to finance and construct the new cathedral. He throws in a bit of selfpromotion at the end, as is his wont, inviting everyone to stop by the Sandpoint Theater the following evening to check out his new production of “The Harpy’s Curse,” revealing that the lead role of Avisera the harpy queen will be played by none other than the famous Magnimarian diva Allishanda! Finally, Father Zantus steps up to give a short speech thanking everyone for coming before declaring the Swallowtail Festival underway.
There are several games you guys can play if you wish or we can skip to the next part of the story seeing how we've had a lot of roleplay already.
Rak Opal
Rak looks up at Sorin in agreement. "It's not a festival without some carnival games!" He then lifts his tankard with his left hand, and mutters a few words as he motions his hand over the opening.
Casting the Cayden Cailean variant of Create Water to produce 1 cup of ale in the tankard.
He lifts the mug to his lips and drinks a healthy swig. "There, now it's a festival!"
Ariza Zanimila
"Rezzin came back empty handed on his search last night. We love festivals too. I especially enjoy the opportunity to see how they really happen, as opposed to how I have read about them happening. One day I am going to go back and re-write a bunch of things that I have found that are just plain wrong in the History Books! Lead on!"
Rezzin jumps on to Ariza's shoulder, chittering and screeching in excitement. Staff in hand, and pack on her back, Ariza turns to follow the rest of the group.
Denche
Ughh, I'm never drinking ale in that tavern again.
He stretches and continues along. Let's see how they play here.

Denche a man stands in front of a archery range and seeing you calls out "Do you have what it takes to bring down the infamous Sandpoint Devil and keep him from menacing the surrounding area? Take a shot and see! I'm sure someone with your proace can slay the Sandpoint Devil."
Two large targets, with silhouettes of a scary looking winged horse on them are set up 50 yards away from a firing line. The bull's eye is about where the horse's heart should be. THere are bigger concentric circles around the bull's eye.
Its one copper to play. Using the longbows provided, you get two shots at the target, though only the best shot scores. Hitting the bull's eye will win you a small pie. Roll to hit and we'll see what happens.
Denche
hah, perfect!
"Let's find out!" He steps closer and hands the man a copper.
Taking the provided bow and arrows, he first inspects it a bit, bending and checking its strength. Then he stands at the designated spot, takes a deep breath, takes aim, exhales and releases.
bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Not satisfied with the first shot, he immediately fires another arrow.
bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Meh. He steps back, disappointed with himself.
Sorin Scrimshaw
"I don't use a bow much these days, but I'll give it a shot.
Sorin steps in after Denche and picks up bow as he tosses the stall attendant a copper. He pauses, taking a moment to breathe and focus, then....
Fwip! Fwip!
1st shot: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 14
2nd shot: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 9
Math is DEX, not proficient, feat pt. blank shot
DM Mathpro
Denche you fail to hit any of the targets. The attendent tries to stiffel a laugh. "Better luck next time, in fact after the young man in the cloak goes why don't you take another shot on the house I'm sure you can do it"
Sorin you manage to hit the second closest target to you and the man exclaims "Well would you look at that someone hits the mark!" he then hands you a piece of old lint covered candy.
Denche
"Sure. Thanks." he says with a mixed expression and proceeds to shoot again once Sorin hands him the bow.
Focus, you idiot!
bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 too far for point-blank bonus, right?
Hearing a satisfactory *thump* and seeing it was a good shot, his mood improves a bit. He hands the bow back and smiles at the host.
Denche
uhh, actually I should even get a penalty: 50 yards is beyond the normal range
"Thank you for the vote of confidence."
He takes out his dagger and cuts a piece of the pie. Turning to the rest of the group: "Anyone wants some? Little Rezzin?" He then noms on the piece in his other hand.
Rak Opal
"Good work, Denche!" Rak grabs a slice of pie from the half-orc. "I think I'd like to try horseshoes and that Dragon Race; that sounds fun!"
DM Mathpro
You guys make your way down to the coastal beach. A cool breeze blows in off the Varisian sea and the sea crashes against the beach. It is a beautiful day and some what warm for early fall so the breeze is welcome as you make your way to the horseshoe pit. A large gruff looking man glares at you as you approach the pit. "1 copper for 3 tosses, if you get a ringer you get a kiss from my daughter" he says in a stiff rather bored accent. The daughter is a very very beautiful woman and she is sitting on a stool in the back of the booth, looking disappointed because no one has won her kiss yet.
Its a dex check to hit the spike, its about 15' away, DC to hit the spike is 15
Sorin Scrimshaw
That's a shame, let's see if I can cheer up the girl's day.
"I'll play," he announces to the gruff man. He places a copper in his palm and picks up 3 rings. He winks at the girl before tossing each ring in quick succession.
Toss: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
Toss: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 = 15
Toss: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
Sorin smiles as two rings hit home, rattling around the target.
Ariza Zanimila
"Rezzin thanks you for the piece of pie, Denche. Very kind. I am sorry I missed the bow competition; the bows were pretty big for me anyway. I will try my hand at the horseshoes, though! If I win, then one of you guys can pay me for the privilege of a kiss from the daughter. Or maybe I'll let Rezzin have it? Ya ... I think he'd like that and I know she would love it!"
Toss: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Toss: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Toss: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
"Oh yay! I hit it!! See that boys?"
DM Mathpro
I knew I should have made that DC higher...oh well
At the sound of the ringing spike the daughter leaps up suddenly very interested in what was going on. She runs over to Sorin tears down his hood, and plants a very wet very passionate kiss on his lips. The kiss intensifies as her hands start to explore his body but that is quickly stopped by her father clearing his throat. She breaks the kiss, turning bright red and gives Sorin a much more chaste kiss on the lips for the second target.
As Ariza hits the spike the daughter looks down at her and grimaces. "Dad...do I have to..." he smiles wickedly at his daughter and nods "A deal is a deal buttercup now kiss the nice ladies monkey."
The daughter blanches and then steps forward giving a very chaste kiss to Rezzin.
There is no Scandinavia but think Scandinavian accent when he speaks that's what I'm kind of going for here.
Denche
Excited to try himself, Denche steps forward, tosses a copper to the father and gives it a try.
Toss: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Toss: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Toss: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Denche
His pulse increases and if it weren't for his thick green skin, a slight blush would have been visible. He tries to wink, fails comically and turns to Rak, grinning:
"Your turn!"
Rak Opal
Rak steps up for his turn, handing over a copper and accepting the rings. "Lass, I was your age four times over by the time you were born. Don't know if I should wish you good luck or not!"
Toss: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Toss: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 1 = 16
Toss: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 1 = 16

You travel a little ways along the beach and come to another booth that is sent up with balancing beams. A young woman stands manning to booth and smiles broadly as the group walks up to them. "One copper to try to cross the beam. If you make it all the way across you get a token for free entry into the cooking contest held later this afternoon."
As she speaks there is a child who is trying her best to bravely cross the beam but she missteps and takes a tumble into the sand and starts crying.
When your ready its a DC 20 Acrobatics check to try and cross the balance beam. Oh and feel free to ask around at any of the booths were any other games you want to try are located.
Rak Opal
Rak looks to Denche and asks for help with his armor. "Lend a hand? I'm happy to attempt to walk that beam, but I'll only submit to making myself a minor fool for everyone's amusement, not a major fool." He says this with a good-natured smile, then proceeds to start removing his armor.
1 minute to remove it without help, half that if Denche (or anyone else) lends a hand.
Once his armor is removed, Rak presents his copper, and climbs up on the beam, beginning to make his way across. "I'll warn you though, I'm an entirely passable chef!"
Acrobatics, no ACP: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
DM Mathpro
That could have been bad...
Rak your foot slips and you are able to kick off the side of the beam just in time so you don't end up doing the splits on the beam and end up face first in the sand instead.
Sorin you land a little further down and are at least able to land on your butt when you fall so you don't eat sand.
Rak Opal
Picking himself up from the sand, Rak mutters "So much for only being a minor fool." He spits sand from his mouth as he speaks, with good humor and a smile on his face. Brushing the sand from his clothing, he walks back to his armor and starts putting it back on.
4 minutes to don the armor, 2 minutes with assistance.
Once armored up, he asks the young woman running the contest "Might you know where the Dragon Races are? They can't really have dragons, can they?"
Ariza Zanimila
"Ooh .. I can do this!" Ariza tosses a copper coin to the vendor and steps toward the beam. Rezzin chatters in the background and she turns toward him. "No sweetie, you can't do this ... it's too easy for you, and you can't cook anyway!"
Ariza walks up to, and starts crossing the beam.
Acrobatics +4: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Suddenly, Rezzin jumps on to Ariza's shoulder, chittering and screeching with glee. Ariza falls off the beam, into the sand and playfully throws Rezzin off of her shoulder.
I am hopeful that the dice rolling gods are saving my good rolls for the combat!!
DM Mathpro
"I need to clarify something. The prize for making it across is entry to the tasting of the cooking challenge. Only tavern owners may participate in the challenge. Young man as the only who made it across you will be able to taste the food for free, where as everyone else will have to pay 1 silver per tavern sampling." The woman hands Sorin a token. "Just present this to the server at each of the tables and they will serve you for free."
Denche
"Nice work. Looks like second attempts are our saviours today. Let's go check out these speedy lizards."
He turns and starts walking back to the Market square, kicking his boots to get rid of the sticky sand.
Rak Opal
While walking to the Dragon Races, Rak is keeping an eye on the other games that they pass. Devil's Hunt, Lighthouse Smash, and Ogre Stomp all have intriguing names; if the action also proves interesting, he may ask to stop there before we get back to the main area for the Dragon Races.
