@Parnel: You've moved yourself down into the ball pit (see cross section image on map) I'm not sure that's where you want to be,

Talia or Harold, I'm fine if you wanted to have readied actions prepared for when got into range.

Talia tries to strike the creature as it moves into range but the anatomy is so strange that she completely misses and barely avoids hitting the wall itself

Trying not to be distracted by the voice, Talia waits again for the creature to climb.

"Yes, to whom are we speaking? You don't appear to wish us ill..."
Harold then prepares to try and knock the grick back down when it pops back up again...

@Istvan: It's not a magical effect per say, but there is something going on in the air above you.
Elvar's arrow flies true and the enraged creature, tries once more to reach you, but is cut down by Talia (Yes I know there is still the grease spell down, but it was almost dead and well DM's Fiat)
"Wow, you guys sure know how to put on a show."
Above you, a figure of a teenage boy fades into view, hovering in mid-air. He is dressed in farmer's clothes and seems a normal young man, except for his long black nails and the fact his neck twists unnaturally to one side. His baleful glowing eyes sparkle with mischief.
"Boo!"
Harold Wainright
Harold's eyebrows rise in surprise.
"I don't know what I was expecting, but it was certainly not that! WHo are you?"
He then spends a move action focusing on the 'boy' with Detect Evil.
GM Fanguar
@Harold: Not evil
"Hi Folks, name's Alastor Land and on top of being dead, I have a little problem. I may have abandoned my family in their time of need, and maybe I'm being punished for that, but whatever the reason, I cannot rest as long as my bones lie mouldering in this room and maybe you can help me with that."
"I assume that you might be wanting to get into the room beyond this one. The door over there is sealed up tight, I think it needs some sort of key or trigger to open and unless you've found something of the sort, you're out of luck. That is unless we come to an agreement. I can trigger the opening mechanism for the door from the other side and would be willing to do that for the low, low price of laying my bones to rest next to those of my kin. Pretty great deal, don't you think."
Elvar Potter
Elvar looks at the ghost with a blank expression as he can't help but think of the wand of unseen servant in Istvan's possession and wonder if that wouldn't do the trick just as efficiently as the broken-necked ghost would, but knowing Harold to be the pious sort, burying the bones would probably be a better solution for the groups morale so he nods his consent.
"Alright. We'll see you interred Mr. Land. Though we do have the means of opening the door ourselves, I believe, we will bury you on a matter of principal more than anything else. Everyone deserves his final rest."
With that Elvar looks at the bones from up above and inspects the pit before climbing down to retrieve the bones.
Casting Detect Magic and surveying the pit before climbing down.
Climb: 10 + 6 = 16
GM Fanguar
@Elvar: no magic auras
"No more monsters or traps that I know of. That was a smart move to find the platform trap. That was the one that got me. One of the balls knocked me off and I landed on my head and that was all she wrote."
"As for my bones, well that worm messed things up a bit, so let's see... I think my head is over there."
Under Alastor's direction, you quickly find the bits and pieces of his corpse. He also points out an old desiccated corpse. It is wearing a suit of mwk banded mail and has fine masterwork morningstar is at it's side. A pouch containing 50gp is still on its belt.
"I'm bound to this place, or I would tag along. So good luck. If you lose those bones, well then I'm truly damned."
Elvar Potter
"Well, that's some fine equipment you had on you. Were you a professional explorer?" Elvar asks the ghost. "And I can't help wondering if you'd mind us putting your former gear to use? It sure is a fine suit of mail you've got there and that coin sure would come in handy.." Elvar tails off, smiling at the ghost.
Diplomacy, untrained: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
GM Fanguar
@Elvar: Based on the GM's post, I am assuming the gear is on the dessicated corpse, not the pieces of this guy's scattered body...
Yup just another dead adventurer. So as it seem that you agree to help Alastor, you are free to leave the cairn and return to town, or you can just head straight to the old Land farmstead.
Harold Wainright
How are we planning to transport the skeleton? Walking into town with a literal bag of bones is probably going to cause comment amongst the local populace... We might be better off going to the burial site, first.
GM Fanguar
Either way works, just let me know. In town, there is the general store, Tidwold's curiosity shop and the local blacksmith's for selling stuff. You will get asked about where you've been/ where you found all this stuff, so are you planning on telling the truth or coming up with a cover story, or...?
Elvar Potter
Elvar'd say that a half-truth would be best. We can tell them we found it in a cairn but lie about which one to send any would be competitors on a wild goose-chase. Plus, we've only got the one door left to explore, right? If that doesn't lead into another complex then we can finish off that cairn and then tell the truth.
List of stuff to sell by order of where we might sell it;
-----------------
Blacksmiths';
mwk leather armor
mwk. heavy mace
mwk. banded mail
mwk. morning star
+1 short sword
------------------
Tidwold's curiosity shop
Elven Bracers (2)
Wand of Unseen Servant (16 charges) -Istvan
Wand of Shatter (7 charges) -Istvan
statuettes (3)
Silver ring (non-magical)
------------------
Stuff we're keeping based on previuous discussions;
+1 chainmail -Harold
Ring of Featherfalling -Talia
Pearl of Power lvl 1 -Istvan
Potion CLW (1)
Goggles of Minute Seeing -Elvar
50 gp.
-------------------
Anybody have any comments on the list? I for one can see use in keeping both the wands and for Talia to hang on to the short sword but I reckon people have their own ideas about what items would serve each of us best so I'm fine with selling them.
If the statuettes don't fetch a good price I want to hang on to them. Elvar, as a budding architect, would like to keep them as a reference or a base model for his own ideas if nothing else.
Istvan Masterson
Looks like a good list to me. After I see how much Istvan's share comes to I might have a few stops to make. For the most part, Istvan will be heading towards the tavern. He needs a good stiff drink and feels no need to explain where he acquired his wealth, offering only vaguely dismissive comments if asked.
You be wanting to know where Istvan's been. Man, you be thinking Istvan be a damned fool telling you where he found his treasure. You want to be finding magic, go be digging up your own damned ghosts.
Talia Virn
Just like Parnell said. I think we must also keep the magical short sword for now, even if it's not Talia's best weapon in case we meet another magical resistant beast.
Talia will also go and find her mentor, Venelle, asking for what she knows about the Land familly
GM Fanguar
So it sounds like you're planning on killing a day in and about town before heading to the Land farmstead. The statuettes will fetch 100gp each, the elvan armbarn 75gp, the silver ring 50gp. Everything else is as per list price in core rulebook, sell for 50% value, also merchants will offer 75% value of item in store credit instead. Tidwold's also will also exchange money for gems at a 5% commission. Anything sold to Tidwold will result in a plethora of questions as to where you got the things, with not so subtle accusations that you stole it from somewhere.
Venelle is very interested to hear about any exploits in the cairn that you put forward. As for the Land farmstead, it's located on the outer edge of Diamond lake's farming area and butts up agains the wilderness beyond. It's been abandoned for going on 25 years, ever since the family that lived there died of the Red Death plague that swept through the region at that time. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have.
Harold Wainright
@Istvan: The spirit said it would open the door we could not get through, if we placed his bones at the farmstead... We have just taken the opportunity to do some shopping in the meantime.
Alright, so, if we sell the following:
mwk leather armor = 80gp
mwk. heavy mace = 156gp
mwk. banded mail = 200gp
mwk. morningstar = 154gp
Elven Bracers (2) = 150gp
statuettes (3) = 300gp
Silver ring (non-magical) = 50gp
50gp
We have 1140gp / 5 = 228gp each.
Talia Virn
Talia will just ask Venelle if anything special has happened in town since they left. She will also ask if anyone has inquired about this farm recently.
We'd better sell the artifacts (statuette) to Elvar's patron. Afterwards, let's go to the farm. Talia got the directions from Venelle.
Elvar Potter
Bardic Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Elvar doesn't take kindly to being called a thief and tells Tidwold to mind his own business and tells him if he doesn't like it then the group will take their business elsewhere.
The Battle of Pesh; Who fought? Why? Who won? How?
Side questions; Can Allustan teach Elvar Auran? Can Allustan explain how they made the air-cushioned beds? Could the statuettes be used as base-lines for new designs?
Before selling off the statuettes Elvar will sketch them into a notebook with references and notes...Profession Architect: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15...with passable results.
Talia Virn
Question guys; Wouldn't it be a good idea to buy that wand of cure light wounds now? Elvar, for one, isn't in dire need of anything in particular but that wand might be a life saver.
Good point, count Talia in. She's very motivated.
