With one final mighty blow Aak scatters the swarm. Looking on, Rema breaths a sigh of relief.

"Perhaps the mountain road would have been safer." The sound of the cold wind outside the cave entrance does little to support her suspicion.

"It appears the rats got you too Aak. Let me take a look at your wounds. With gentle hands Rema takes a close look at the scratches and bites from the rats.

Aak:
Heal check:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20. Aak receives a +4 to savings throws against the Filth fever. Once per day for the next 3 days Aak may make a save (Fort DC 12). If this save is made two days in a row the disease is cured. After the third day effects of the disease begin if it has not been cured.

"Keep a close eye on those wounds. I will tend to them again once we stop for the day. I may not be able to cure whatever those despicable creatures carried with them, but I can ease your wounds." Rema gently holds her hands near Aak's wounds, quietly chanting “Lam” and “Oh” sounds. A red glow emanates from her hands. Aak is healed for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.

Once the glow dissipates, Rema sits on the tunnel floor meditating quietly.

Why won't you die and disperse already!

The roiling mass of rats roll over Aak and bite and claw him while delivering a bounty of small cuts and scratches. Even though there is a clear pain on Aak's face, he steadies himself and delivers the killing blow so to speak to the mass of rats as they disperse to whence they came. After checking himself to make sure all the rats are off his person, Rema comes up and heals Aak's injuries and helps secure his body for whatever filth and pestilence caused by the dirty rats that covered him just mere seconds before.

Seeing the rats scattered, Caylen's shaking ceases and the flames issuing out of her skin subside. Catching her breath, she clutches her hands into fists and closes her eyes, focusing on the stinging pain of her bites. This time, the flame that rises up from Caylen is comfortingly warm and pale white. With the flames appearance, they burn away the young girl's injuries as if she had never been harmed at all.

Exhaling, the flames disappear from around Caylen, and she looks to the others. "Is-- is everyone-- Who else is hurt?"

Combat is over. We are now out of initiative. Caylen passed her save (with the saving finale from Shayne).

Though the stench is slowly clearing, the howling wind outside the tunnel makes it difficult to hear. Heavy white flakes of snow are beginning to fall. Some blow into the cave entrance, but quickly melt once they hit the rock. The cold has yet to penetrate the rocky surface.

Aak:
Over the coming days Aak easily shakes off the filth fever before any ill effects every begin.

Standing and brushing off her robes. "I am well and ready to move ahead. Is everyone else ready to move on?"

Rema looks toward the group and then toward Silx, who slightly ahead of the rest.

Once everyone is ready to move on.

"Shall we follow or wait for you to scout ahead Silx?"

Perception rolls for everyone. Stealth roll for Silx if he decides to move ahead of the group.

Silx:
There is a figure wrapped in filthy, reeking black rags crouched in C19.

Another, tall humanoid, wearing a black scarf wrapped around its face - leaving only a pale brow and black, soulless eyes visible stands near E24. Neither has noticed you. After speaking the figure at E24 head toward G23 and out of sight.

As Silx creeps forward a voice echoes through the darkness ahead, but no attack comes. The words sound vaguely familiar, but only Silx understands them.

Undercommon:
"The other drow said no others would come. I know at least one of your group can hear these words, though I do not know where he has gone. In the time of testing you may pass if this low one is unable to stop you. If only I could stay to test you myself."

You hear the slow drip of water further into the tunnel. The breathing of Aak and the others has quickened, in anticipation of conflict, but is not labored. Wind howls outside the tunnel entrance. Though the smell of the burned flesh has faded, it is still present.

As Shayne walks forward singing only the sound of his voice echoes through the tunnel ahead.

Shayne:
Ahead you see a curve in rock corridor. Rubble is scattered in several places. You see no attacker.

You see Shayne singing ahead of you. It is difficult to see beyond Shayne, but can just make out Rema further down the tunnel. Both are unharmed. Other than the sound of the wind outside the entrance and Shayne's singing, you hear very little. Other than the smell of burnt rats, the smell of dusty rock pervades the area.

Not true! Shayne has previously been singing during many times of danger.

It would be absurdly ironic if the creature Silx saw was not necessarily an enemy. We all stand around until the daily rounds of Bardic Performance are used up. Then the creature sniffs, wipes a tear, applauds, and introduces himself as a friendly NPC.

Nah, never going to happen.

"What's everyone waiting for?" She whispers to Aak, brows raised in concern. "Is there something up ahead?" Her dark eyes flit between the half orc and the more distant drow ahead. Though Shayne's lilting and hypnotic tune carries down the cave, it is of little comfort to the young woman.

As Shayne sings the wind outside picks up, a cold howling sound accompanying the gnome's strange song.

When the guys I game with first started hanging out they came up with a name for their group. They called themselves "The Dwarves of Action." One game I asked them where the name came from. Apparently the "action" part was meant ironically... ;-)
