Acacius is pleased that his first blow against an actual troll succeeded so well. But considerably less so when the bag sails in and burns his new companion.

He speaks up so Nakoma can hear him clearly. He does not assume that she has seen everything that just transpired.

"An attacker is throwing down alchemical bags, Zan is glued! I will try to keep knocking the beast down!"

As he speaks, he swings.

I don't know if Acacius knows about the universal solvent but that would be handy right now!

IfI can trip a character getting up from prone and keep them down, I'll try that. +7 CMB to that roll.

If I can't trip a character getting up from prone (relevant thread), I will attack for damage with a +6.

As the monster rises from the floor, Zan strains against his glue to make an attack which just does hit the prone troll cutting it mildlly.

From the side, Acacius this time pierces the troll with his polearm, gouging a deep hole in the beast, which struggles for a moment, falters and falls limp.

End of Round 1

Per the link, which takes you to Paizo FAQ, you cannot take a trip AoO vs a prone opponent who is standing, as the AoO occurs before the action that triggers it. That means trying to trip a prone creature, which would be ineffective. Your damage dropped the thing, so good on you either way.

I would be slow and lumbering up that ladder, and bereft of my main weapon. So I will aid Zan and re-assess then.

With great care, Acacius moves the sharp edge of his polearm to his right to scrape glue from Zan.

Ambush - Round 2 - concluded

Nakoma takes some time to get herself squared away, putting her potion away, keeping her wand in hand, and moving into the room proper, away from the bear traps.

Acacius uses his glaive-guisarme to slash at the glue holding Zan fast. He manages to scrape a bit of the sticky stuff away, but not nearly enough for the ranger to return to mobility.

Frustrated, Zan cries that they need to chase the remaining foe, but he while works to free himself, he remain entangled and glued.

Heavy footsteps thud across the floor of the Plague House main floor as whoever was at the top of the trapdoor moves away.

End of Round 2

Glue needs 15 hp dmg to free Zan. It has taken 9. The solvent will also make it go away. Meanwhile the bad guy is getting away. On to Round 3

With a base speed of 20ft in armour, I don't know if Acacius can catch up to the foe. But he'll try.

Tapping Zan with the wand as she goes by, Nakoma races for the ladder trying to shimmy back to the upper floor to chase the unseen foe. As she scrambles to the upper floor, between the burnt and charred bed frames, she hears someone else in the room, moving towards the other door in the dark. What light source do you have?

With the portcullis lowered, Acacius takes off for the stairs in the corner room, moving over the snapped bear traps as he runs, slowed by his heavy armor.

Zan finally knocks the last of the glue off his feet, and then starts climbing the ladder.

The unseen foe opens the door of the infirmary, and exits to the hallway.

Wouldn't run be three times speed in heavy armour? That would have put Acacius closer to the stairs in the previous round and up them this one.

I have a light spell currently active on my starknife, which is on my belt right now.

Nakoma hurries after the sound, not as fast as usual in her weakened state. As she moves she draws her starknife. Pushing past the door she suddenly finds herself right behind a figure...

QUESTION: Is the door open or shut? If it's open she could see the figure before moving into that last spot and would use acrobatics to get there. If it's closed she won't know he's there, so she'd just go through the door and move there normally, which might provoke an attack of opportunity (depending on how the door opens and how much cover it provides). Rolling an acrobatics check just in case the door's open.

Ambush! - Round 4 - concluded

Nakoma scrambles to her feet in the infirmary after coming up through the floor and rushes after the fleeing foe, which she can now see is a half-orc dressed in leather armor, with an ugly looking morningstar at his belt. He is trying to flee out the front doors of the Plague House, but opening them has slowed him enough that Nakoma has caught up to the villain.

The door from the infirmary was closed, but opened by the runner, who you just saw go through it. By the time, Nakoma gets to it, it hasn't closed yet. The door opens inwards, as does the exterior door nearby. There is no AoO since Nakoma didn't leave a threatened square.

Hurrying, Zan is able to get up the ladder and onto his feet in the infirmary, following the light cast by Nakoma's spell.

Bogged down by his heavy armor, Acacius plods along bounding up the stairs as fast as he is able.

You cannot run unless in a straight line. See this section of the PRD for the reference. Best Acacius can do is double move. Chasing is not his forte, killing trolls is.

The fleeing half-orc growls his frustration. "Leave me be, woman! Don't know what you are doing here, but you won't catch me." He throws a cloud of dusty ash at Nakoma's eyes. But the dirty trick only succeeds in coating the warpriestess with ash, not blinding her as intended. The half-orc then opens the door behind him, which has a drop of about 8 feet down where the burned out stairs used to stand.

Back at the house, Zirelle's baking experiment turns out a little less well than planned. She scraps the project and starts over, wondering what her allies had gotten up to at the Plague House.

Zirelle wakes up on the couch from a bad dream and decides to try a cinnamon roll, and she almost yogs from how bad it is.

Can't take 20 on something untrained, can you? I think I'm destined to fail. :)

Zirelle dumps the disaster in the trash, and cleans up so no one can tell that she even tried. Too embarrassing. She decides that she will just buy her friends something at the inn... if they come by to let her know how it went. Getting pretty late. She stares outside at the lights near the plague house, hoping her friends are okay.

As I suspected. Per the linked rule the second diagonal moved counts as 10' of movement, instead of 5'. That means you fall short of reaching the foe with 30' of movement. You can either double move to current position or end up behind Nakoma with a ranged attack of some kind.

Nakoma swings her starknife at the half-orc foe, but she cannot hit him as he deftly dodges the attack.

Zan hustles onto the floor of the infirmary and into the hallway, ending up just behind Nakoma, too far away to make an attack.

Acacius high-steps it up the stairs, into a small room on the ground floor where a door blocks his path.

The half-orc, using the momentum of Nakoma's swing against her, tries to grab her wrist and jam the weapon into the burnt wood of the hallway, and while the starknife hits the wall, it doesn't stick as the trickster intended. Growling his disapproval, he steps back off the ledge falling the 8' or so to the ground, landing on his feet, ready to scramble away.

Acacius cannot recall his companions mentioning a trap on this door, so he turns the handle swiftly and resumes moving as quickly as possible towards the fight.

Gritting his teeth Zan knows he's being foolish but tries to make the jump. As he lands Zan tries to bring his blade down on the half orc, though he's a little of balance from the landing he stays on his feet.

Nakoma leaps down after the half-orc. Attempting to jump past him and not fall prone with a DC 20...

Then she stands up. Provoking.


Ambush - Round 6 - concluded

Nakoma takes a flying leap over the head of the half-orc intruder, but she can't stick the landing, and ends up on her belly. Trying to stand up, she suffers a shot from the him, crushing her back painfully.

Acacius tears the door open, and seeing a long straight space, breaks into a trot (about as fast as he can manage in his armor), turning the corner just in time to see his allies leap down to the ground ahead.

Zan takes a more careful jump than Nakoma, landing on his feet, and making a slashing attack draws blood and a pained cry from the invader.

The half-orc takes a small step between the two, and tries to counter-attack against Zan with his morningstar, but Zan parries the attack without any harm to himself.

Turning the corner and seeing his companions jumping down from the other end of this corridor, Acacius makes a split decision.

RUN!

He will run for the ledge, aiming to leap over the entire fight and cutting off the intruder's escape!

Here goes nothing!

And he leaps.

I hope this is correct. What I plan to do is have Acacius run in a straight line west, and take a running jump over Nakoma, trying to land 10' west of her current position in the west-most column of the map squares. I *think* that I'm supposed to make two acrobatics checks, one for the long jump of 20', and one for not crashing to the ground from a 8' fall.

@ Nakoma I don't think Zan can five foot step as this looks like difficult terrain, maybe Nakoma could for the flank.

Zan tries to bring the heavy blade down on it's flat against the man's head to disorientate him. It makes an odd thudding sound as it connects.

Ambush - Round 7 - concluded

Stepping over to block the escape of the running half-orc, Nakoma slashes at him again, but again, the orc's wily moves lets him avoid any damage from her attack.

Acacius runs forward at full speed, stopping himself as the teeters on the edge of the drop off down to the ground below. With the rapid advance, the fighter is just about ready to join the melee again.

Again, run is a full round action, which means no controlled jump down. You can either double-move to the edge and jump next time (or attack with reach) or careen off the side and hope for the best. I thought discretion the better part of valor and held you at top.

While the intruder is focused on Nakoma, Zan bashes him on the head with the pommel of his sword, hitting maybe a little harder than he intended but the blow seems to stagger the foe slightly. He drops his morningstar, and cries out "Yield! I yield! Blast you, I give in!"

Look in the Discussion tab for Post-Combat Summary. YOu can decide what to do with your prisoner next. Maybe feed him the burnt cookies?

When Acacius gets to ground level, he immediately circles with polearm drawn and flanks the half-orc's position. Once he is in place, he relaxes slightly.
