Assuming you all expend rest of your spells to heal up through the night.
Once rested the two groups prepare to split off in two separate directions. The Doppleganger under the form of an orc once more joins in with their ranks to help see them through the tunnels as he has traveled them for several days now. The orcs seem to be heartened for battle once more. Their eyes, after a meal and bolstered spirits, seems to shine with a renewed luster for battle as the orcs mix nearby water with crushed rock for a bit of warpaint as they prepare for battle.
Giving a nod of acceptance the two groups depart with the Trunau Militia continuing north and the orc clan headed back south west. The orcs grunt back in broken common. "We will not fail."
A metal gate stands open, allowing entry to this natural cavern. The natural space has been enlarged in some areas to form a crude rectangle. Nine humanoid metal statues are spaced at regular intervals in a grid, with others leaning haphazardly against the east wall alongside some giant-sized weapons and human-sized armor. Stairs in the northeast and southeast corners lead to platforms with large chairs. Painted on the walls are crude silhouettes of dwarves, elves, halflings, humans, and orcs, all of which show much wear. A natural tunnel leads north, with another metal gate standing open.
This is where the giants practice with weapons and heavier armor. Metal gates on the north and south exits reach 8 feet high, leaving a 6-foot gap between the top of each gate and the ceiling. The gates are normally left open, but can be held closed by a sturdy latch at the top that connects to an iron ring mounted on the wall—easy for a giant to reach but awkward for a Medium creature to manipulate (this requires a full-round action unless the creature climbs or is lifted to reach the top of the gate, in which case it requires only a standard action).
The metal statues are cast out of a mold in the forge, and each depict a crudely posed human with a sword and shield. By training against these durable metal dummies, the giants practice fighting smaller humanoids. After about a day or two of abuse, the statues become decapitated, dismembered, or otherwise destroyed, and the pieces are sent back to the forge to be melted down, recast into more statues, and brought here again. Four extra statues lean against the eastern wall awaiting their abuse.
The weapons along the east wall are all Large masterwork weapons and include a bastard sword, a battleaxe, a glaive, a heavy f lail, heavy mace, a longspear, and a warhammer. Although fire giant soldiers normally use greatswords, the king encourages his troops to try other weapons to increase their familiarity with the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Sets of Medium half-plate armor adorn six of the dummies, salvaged from various opponents; one is clearly of elven manufacture, two are orc armor, and the others appear to have been made by humans. Each set is beaten, bloodstained, and smells like a sweaty orc, but still provides its normal protection. Sometimes unruly slaves or prisoners are brought here, strapped into this armor, and attacked by the giants for practice against living targets. The fire giant priestesses cast spells on these victims (such as bear’s endurance, false life, rage, or even shield other) to make them last longer against the giants, but this only delays the inevitable. During these training exercises, the north and south gates are closed and latched, preventing the prisoners from escaping the room.
Each of the platforms is 10 feet high. Officers and visiting dignitaries use them to watch the soldiers practice. The chairs are comfortable for Large giants but are more like beds for Medium creatures.
Standing on each of the platforms is a frost giant and a fire giant representative as they each oversee a pair of their forces mock battling the statues and each other with various weapons.

Is Thoon with us?
Rog eyes the training ground and grunts dismissively at the forces training on the lower ground. He starts to fly, hoping to make opening the gate easier for when the rest decide to charge in.
"Should we go for the officers? The grunts may run if we destroy their leaders." He asks before he lifts off the ground.
| Kraygan Steelkeg |
"No place for 'em ta run if we take th' high ground." Kraygan points to the far platform with the frost giant. "Only the gate n' tha' tunnel. If Wren kin get me n' Haggis up thar quick I'll cut off retreat n' reinforcements. Otherwise, let's jus' yak-charge 'em again."
GM Tyranius

Thoon went with the orcs unless convinced otherwise.
Farin Hogan, III
|
"I think it makes sense to go for the officers first. Even if the grunts don't run, they will be far less effective."
Wren.
|
Waited a day to see if Farin wanted his weapon fixed. /shrug
Wren agrees with Farin. "Let's go get the officers. We'll see if that has any impact."
At the new room, Wren offers some magics to help the party. FJKR: 1d4 ⇒ 1 "Farin, come here. Take this." Wren casts Extended Heroism on Farin. JKR: 1d3 ⇒ 2 "And Kraygan," Wren motions Kraygan forward. "You as well." Extended Heroisms...280 minutes.
He casts Heroism on himself, and then Overland Flight (so he can stop walking like a chump). And Mage Armor so he doens't feel ridiculous going into a fight with giants without it.
When the party is ready to charge in, Wren will cast Haste.
Round 1/14: Haste...you know the deal.
Farin Hogan, III
|
For some reason, I though Rogzul was the one to do the repair, and was afraid to ask :)
"Thanks, Wren. What was that? I feel even more egotistic than usual! Nice!"
Farin checks over his gear and draws his swords in preparation. He also fills his sipping vest with a new invisibility potion.
"Hey, if anyone has a way to repair this blade, it might help us. Assuming those fire giants don't keep targeting it..."
Farin Hogan, III
|
Actually, Heroism pretty much negates the penalty, so other than a greater risk of full breakage, the heroism is probably better anyway.
Next time we hit a town, I will get some scrolls...
| Jorgan Steelkeg |
After waking and doing some terrible things to the bathroom in Wren's mansion, Jorgan spends some time brushing down Spirit and getting ready for the day.
Heading out with the others to face more giants, he gives himself and Spirit barkskin as usual before using the magic shovel-rod to move the walls out of the way so the party can head deeper into the complex.
---
Looking in on the giants and their mock battle, Jorgan nods along with the plan. "Aye, our rush-in-and-kill-the-bigguns-first strategy hasn't failed us yet. We'll be right behind ya." He then uses some spells to make his spear heavier and Spirit's horns harder.

No one charging in or hop straight into Init?
| Rogzul |
I considered saying the Rog had fixed the weapons, then realized how unlikely that might be given recent events. Has the fellowship been broken?
Rog grunts as the rest cast, enlarging his size and preparing to fly straight toward the officers as soon as the dwarves move.
I always assume Kraygan will charge, but perhaps best to wait for confirmation from him?
Farin Hogan, III

Farin will take a sip from his vest, and wink to the others as he turns invisible.

@Farin- You are still 15 feet out around a pillar so wouldn't be able to get a full attack on your opening. Did you wish to change it up?

It looked like 5' to me. He wouldn't attack without a full attack, and he would have gotten into position to do so before they started. How big is that pillar?
Edit: Oh, when I was zxoomed in, I only saw the shadow and thouught that was debris. But statement still valid - if he couldn't get in position before the attack started, he won't attack. There is little point in him making a single attack and leaving himself wide open, so he would just stay hidden.

Heartspit and Spirit jab into the fire giants hips causing fresh blood to flow down the fire giants blue pants.
Farin takes a sip from his jacket, blending to the backdrop. The small halfling is able to easily navigate into a more favorable position.
Wren begins a complicated casting as he summons more aid from another realm to their cause.
Reingar utters a simple word and vanishes from sight. The frost giant disappeared as quickly as Farin did.
Left orange on map for last known position.
The frost giants charge in at Kraygan and Jorgan. Well the blind one more stumbles his way in at Jorgan.

Both giants miss their targets as Jorgan uses his spear to hold the axeblade off from striking his body.
The fire giant lieutenant draws his greatsword back as he glares at Rogzul's deadly spear. His body shakes in fright of the spear's deadly precision. "Unmaker." He growls and slams his greatsword into the wooden haft.

@Rogzul- The giant only took a 5 foot step.
Rogzul continues to stick the lieutenant like a matador playing with a young bull.
Haggis spins on his heels as the frost giant's make a tactical error allowing Kraygan too much room to roam. Kraygan's lance cracks the giant's chest in, puncturing lungs and heart alike.
Leaping in the remaining fire giant crashes his greatsword down on Kraygan's lance in an attempt to destroy the dwarf's weapon. "That will be enough of your tiny thorn."

Farin drops his cracked blade and takes a sniped shot at the blue flames fire giant. The dagger sticks soundly in between the giant's shoulder blades before vanishing again.
