Kuran Abrath

"Could this be a r-riddle? A t-trap? It's always a t-trap!" Kuran says with shaking hands.
With cautious steps, Kuran advances forward, chanting quietly. "Home. Family. H-home. F-family."
Darren the Daring

"It's just an old monument. Let's just open the door."

GM Sior
|
As Darren strides boldly forward to get to the door, he reaches the bottom of the stairs and is met by a grinding, winding sound as the statue turns to face the kitsune! It is alive!
Darren: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Kuran: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Nijena: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Construct: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Party up!
Darren the Daring

Darren tries to push the door open.

GM Sior

Darren moves closer to the door and opens it!
1d20 ⇒ 19
Closer to the construct, Darren notices two things.
1) The construct is actually made of wood!
2) There is a small keyhole on the back of its neck.
Darren the Daring
|
"It's... made of wood. And I see some kind of keyhole in its neck." Darren says, then ducks through the door.
GM Sior
|
You have two keys. One from the smoke spirit thingy and one from the pool in the previous room which Tessa fished out.
Blossym hustles down the stairs with her wakizashi and around to flank the construct with Darren.
Darren the Daring
|
I would assume our fearless leader has them?

GM Sior
|
I'll wager that Kuran is holding onto them.
Nijena and Kuran are up
Kuran Abrath
|
"K-keys? Darren, I have t-two! Try them!" Kuran says, plowing his belongings to retrieve the two keys he has gathered during their travels through the crypt.
Full-round action to retrieve stored objects.
Nijena Tajar
|
ups, missed that we are in initiative, sorry!
Nijena waits for Kuran to produce the keys, takes them and tries them, one after the other. "Stay back, who knows what lurks behind this door!"
Darren the Daring
|
Darren already opened the door and step through. However, there is a large construct on your side of the door. It has a keyhole in the back of its neck.
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Sior
|
Strictly, you have not gone through yet. You had to five-foot step to get to the door and a move action to open. No more ability to move.
Nijena tries to go for the keyholes, but the statue moves to thwart her effort. If she wants to try to get them in, she'll have to render it immobile by pinning it.
The statue tries to slam its shields into you to thwart your progress!
1 Blossym, 2 Darren, 3 Kuran, 4 Nijena: 1d4 ⇒ 1
1 Blossym, 2 Darren, 3 Kuran, 4 Nijena: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Slam!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 MISS
Slam!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 MISS
Party up!
Blossym shakes her head. No way I'm gonna be able to grapple this thing... So she strikes with her wakizashi!
Wakizashi!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (6) = 9
Construct -9
Kuran Abrath
|
Kuran looks around helplessly, and figures Nijena's attempt will draw the construct's attention. The tiefling moves next to the statue and attempts the same thing; grapple the big, scary thing.
CMB (provokes): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
But he barely has the courage to even touch the statue.
GM Sior
|
As Nijena tries to grapple the construct, the statue takes a quick jab with its shield! But its attack is as effective as both Nijena and Kuran's grapple attempts.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Darren is up!
Darren the Daring

Darren is really not sure what to do in this situation. Anyone care to shout a suggestion?

Darren steps through the door for cover and then begins preparing an oil flask as makeshift explosive. full-round action that provokes, thus the attempt to get to safety.

Darn, it already used its AoO...
As Darren is preparing his oil, the construct tries its shield slam again!
1 Blossym, 2 Darren, 3 Nijena: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Slam!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
1 Darren, 2 Nijena: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Slam!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
It lays out Blossym before turning around on Nijena to slam her, too!
Party up!
Stabilize DC 10: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 3 = 13
Kuran Abrath

Kuran tries to get the construct's attention after a moment's study, aiding Nijena to tackle the statue.
Aid another (attack) + ST: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 1 = 14
+2 to Nijena's next attack, be it normal or grapple.
GM Sior
|
The construct tries to fight being grabbed, but its shield misses Nijena and she grabs a hold of it! It still fidgets, though, making it impossible to get the keys in.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
One more CMB check on your turn to pin it and allow the key to be used.
Oh, and when Darren steps into the next room, he catches glimpses of six packs sitting on a table in the middle of this barren room. Unlike the packs found previously, these look new. Small bits of parchment hang from a cord on each one.
Darren the Daring
|
Darren hesitates with the flask in his hand. He makes a decision and then draws his rapier before stepping back into the room. He tries to distract the construct and draw it's attention to him.

The statue tries to escape from Nijena's grasp! It wrenches itself free and is no longer grappled!
Break Grapple: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

GM Sior

Nijena grabs hold again! With luck, the statue will not break free again! Perhaps Darren could aid in her holding (aiding to prevent breaking grapple?).
Darren up!
Darren the Daring

GM Sior
|
Back in Nijena's arms, the statue struggles and cannot force itself free!
CMB: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Party up! One more CMB to pin (with a +5, I believe) and you can try the keys!
Party up!

Kuran does the same.
Aid Nijena: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 1 = 22
Nijena gets +2 from Darren, +2 from Kuran, and +5 from previous successful grapple check, in addition to her ordinary modifiers.
GM Sior
|
The statue tries one last time to shove Nijena off of it, but it can't get the leverage!
Escape!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
With a quick fumble, you stick the key on the hole in the back of its neck. Turning it, it ceases all movement!
Out of combat!
In the room beyond, six packs sit on a table. Each pack has a small tag on it, each bearing the name of someone in the adventuring party when you first set off! Their contents are as follows:
Blossym - Potion of invisibility and potion of CLW
Darren - Potion of bears endurance and oil of magic weapon
Kuran - Wand of CLW (10 charges) and scroll of lesser restoration
Nijena - Potion of eagle's splendor and oil of magic weapon
Lynthara - Potion of owl's wisdom and potion of CLW
Tessa - Wand of magic missile (10 charges) and scroll of scorching ray

Kuran goes over to Blossym, and is relieved to find her stabilized. He picks her up and brings her to Nijena. "Y-you can probably revive h-her? Please do s-so."
Kuran is taken aback by the tags and bags, quickly setting Blossym on the floor. He cautiously walks over to his own and looks at the items. "I-I don't know about y-you, but I'm s-scared about w-what this here i-is."
But since Kuran is able to identify the scroll using read magic to be what the tag says it to be, he takes a long, ponderous look at it. He does still have some of that sapping the shadow did a few days ago. It seems like forever they've been spelunking the crypt. Wanting to feel more than a burden for the group, he promptly begins to cast the spell on himself.
Caster level check (DC 4): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Ability damage healed: 1d4 ⇒ 4
And he's back in action! Feeling the spell's invigorating effect, Kuran seems a lot more energetic albeit still like a frightened bird. "D-did it work? I-it didn't have any adverse e-effects, did it?"
Somehow confident about the items, Kuran uses the brand new wand on Blossym.
Wand of CLW (9 charges left) on Blossym: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Nijena Tajar
|
Nijena quickly lays her hands on Blossym. "You will feel better soon."
Lay hands: 1d6 ⇒ 5
After Kuran heals more wounds she moves over to the packs and has a look at the one with her name on it.
"Did somebody expect us? Who left that here?" she asks.
"Oh, look. There are also packs for Tessa and Lynthara."
Darren the Daring
|
Darren studies the contents of his pack, takes them, and then frowns at the packs. "The townspeople must have put these here, but... didn't we find similar packs elsewhere in here?"
Does anyone else want to take Lynthara's CLW potion?

"They might, but... this place is not near their town. W-what are they doing here? Or is s-someone watching us? We've been here for days, after all... oh no, this is just some test, a trap even!"
Nijena Tajar
|
Nejan looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
"Do you think so? I always had the feeling that we are being watched, from the first second since we entered this crypt."
GM Sior
|
Blossym considers, but comes to a modified conclusion. "The pillows in the pit, the care packages, I think this is more test than challenge, one we're meant to complete. Like a ritual! Or something. Something musta gone wrong, though, for it to tax us so much..."
Darren the Daring

"Yes, things don't quite add up."
