Drakra Worpltng
Drakra reaches over his shoulder and pulls a rather old, albeit unused, crossbow of miniature size, and drops a bolt into it.
I am not the most skilled at fighting. Although I can annoy most intelligent creatures to the point where they really want to hit me, usually makes them much worse at hitting other people.
The small bard pauses for a moment.
Hmmm, not sure that this particular skills is something to brag about, but it might come in useful.
Action: load crossbow, prepare to shoot. I do not think that he can ready an action to fire, but that is what he intends to do before anyone engages the spider since in does not have Precise Shot.
Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra nods, moving up in stride. She motions to Godwin and Flynn to flank her sides one to the other. She then signals to Drakra to slowly back out so that she can move in on the creature.
She speaks in a hushed tone. "On my signal..."
Her shield in hand and holding the torch, she gets in position. She takes aim, and intends to throw the torch at the spider to attract it's attention, then close in with it, drawing her blade to engage the creature head on.
GM, don't know how you want to rule any of that, if it might cause a damaging attack or just be an annoyance. The idea is to maybe hit it, but more to get the light into the squares where the spider is, so that she can see it and adequately close in on the creature. Any of the action can change if needed.
Godwin Solace
Moved myself on map. I think Ali threw a rock at the spider as well. Let's see how if it gets scared and runs away or attacks.
GM Shathira
Ali tosses a rock at the spider an its stomach bulges obscenely and two huge, grey worm like creatures with a maw full of teeth erupt from the spider's abdomen, and move in your direction.

Round 1
Having already drawn and loaded his crossbow, Drakra aims and fires the weapon, and then loads it again, hoping to get a chance to fire once more before these creature consume him.
Attack-light crossbow @ maggot 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage:: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Unfortunately, the bolt is well wide of its mark.
Move: Reload crossbow
Ali Asaidi
Ali put his shield in front of him as his arm swung back behind him. With a curse, uncharacteristic of the contemplative man he'd shown himself to be, he brought his scimitar down on the maggot.

Maggot2 attack Ali: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Maggot1 attack on Godwin: 1d20 ⇒ 16
damage on Godwin: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Drakra fires his crossbow, but the site of the grotesque worms bursting through the abdomen of the spider surprised him enough that the bolt flies wide. The bard hurriedly reloads for another shot. One of the maggots moves surprisingly swiftly towards Ali and latches on to the Inquisitor's leg with its mouth of ringed teeth, but mostly comes away with the taste of armor for its efforts. Ali slashes down with his scimitar cutting a deep furrow into its rubbery hide. Godwin rushes towards his friend's aid, and finished cutting the nasty worm in two. The other maggot attempts to take a bite out of Godwin as he rushes by, but manages only to skid off of the Aasimar's armor. Flynn moves and brings his flail down on the maggot with a satisfying crunch, which splatters the bug all over the floor.

Normally I'd have waited for Selindra, but I figured I'd let the first crit of the game happen ;)
Godwin Solace
May there be many more!
Nasty bugs... where these eating the spider? Is it dead?
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Ali Asaidi
Ali wiped his scimitar clean before sheathing it once more. He then inspected his wound and thought nothing more of it.
"Is everyone OK? Any more of those things around?"
He then closed his eyes and murmured a prayer before going back to the line and offering his shoulder for the archer and elf to lean on. "It was only a couple of large maggots but no need to worry. Let's see about getting us out of here and into the sun."
later
The inquisitor cleared his throat, "So, what were you two doing in Kenabres? Long time residents or newcomers like myself?"
Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra blinks, her body frozen in place a moment. I couldn't move..., why couldn't I move? I froze..., when they needed me? Why..., Lady Inheritor's blade..., I can't be doing that in battle...
Selindra shakes herself a bit, trying to startle herself moving. She moves over to the dead creatures, trying to take her torch to them to see if they will burn, and also going to do the same to the spider's remains as well.
Selindra remains quiet for the most part, her eyes wide, and also her body language speaks more to the fact that she is withdrawing into her mind for a bit, to try and take everything in.
Drakra Worpltng
Drakra looks at the spider with his large eyes.
I wonder if she has a web? I have heard many stories of foolish adventurers getting caught in giant spider webs, just as flies get caught in normal webs.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 <-- looking to see if there is a web or other loot near the spider. Will also make sure that the spider is really dead.
Godwin Solace
Godwin cleans his blade as well as the spot where the maggot attacked his armor and nods to Ali Lived in Kenabres for quite a lot of my youth. Today was the first time I saw the city again in fifteen years though. To Drakra he says Be careful around it Drakra, do not know if there is anything else to be wary of here
To the non fighters of the group he calls out Once we confirm the way is clear we can move on.
Ali Asaidi
Godwin cleans his blade as well as the spot where the maggot attacked his armor and nods to Ali Lived in Kenabres for quite a lot of my youth. Today was the first time I saw the city again in fifteen years though.
Ali nodded with sadness in his voice, "First time in the city. Came here following the sun."
Somewhat relieved that both blind elf and injured archer were still OK, he asked, "How about you two? What did you do in Kenabres?"
tag?
later
The inquisitor noticed one of Iomedae's faithful slump a bit and stare off as if in pensive mood. He neared her and offered some encouragement, "Selindra, are you alright? Are you thinking of someone that was left behind?"
tag?
Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra startles as Ali speaks to her. She seems a bit sheepish, shrugging and seeming a bit defensive. "No..., I just. I couldn't move. I saw those things come out of the spider..., and I just..., stopped?"
She shivers a couple moments. "I have never been to Kenebras. Tomorrow, or is it today now? It was to be the start of my year. It is customary for those who take up the Inheritor's blade to serve at least a year in the wound. I had just arrived with the captain, and the other members of my temple." Selindra tries to fight back tears, but is not sufficient to the task.
She frown, shaking her head. "Iomedae told us in her acts that it is not the blade that makes the warrior, but the heart. A strong heart can wield any blade, and light on to victory. Am I so weak that I cannot even hold my blade now?"
Ali Asaidi
She frown, shaking her head. "Iomedae told us in her acts that it is not the blade that makes the warrior, but the heart. A strong heart can wield any blade, and light on to victory. Am I so weak that I cannot even hold my blade now?"
Ali shook his head, "No, you are not. You've obviously proven to your goddess that you're worthy. You are worthy to be called her Paladin'."
He tapped his hand to the dragon scale that was near his heart. "If that were not enough, someone very important also gave you her vote of confidence." He scoffed and added, "And I'm not about to second guess an ancient dragon. C'mon, we need your heart and your sword."
Godwin Solace
It cannot have been more than half a minute since those things burst out and assaulted us Selindra. Godwin chimes in And Ali is right. It is no small accomplishment to be counted as a paladin in service of The Inheritor and you carry a scale of Telendrev. Take heart in both those things. We must move.
Godwin is going to stay near the NPCs. I think we're pretty much certain the cavern is clear right? Should we find an exit and move on?
Ali Asaidi
Godwin is going to stay near the NPCs. I think we're pretty much certain the cavern is clear right? Should we find an exit and move on?
Agreed. I think the 'marching order' was losely defined as Selindra as vanguard and Flynn as rear guard with everyone else sort of in the middle with the NPCs. I say the DM to just roll a random exit unless there's a decision to be made (something particular about a path over another). I'd like to be methodical about this and NOT leave anything behind us unexplored.
Godwin Solace
That approach sounds fine to me. I'd be good with GM rolling Perception for us and telling us if the characters notice anything special about one exit over another and if not, then just picking one at random. Does that work for others in the group? Of course Drakra is examining the spider corpse and would like to know if he finds anything in there :)
GM Shathira
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
You all start to search the cavern and it's vast. The ceiling is well above the reach of both torchlight and darkvision. It looks like there are some caverns more to the east that continue on. Anevia moves the best she can as you go along but fighting through the pain of the wounds to her leg, and the broken bones slows her down a great deal, which in turn slows down the group. The way splits ahead, and Drakra scouting hears something skittering about the north split, but nothing to the south.
GM Shathira
Bah...Paizo ate the post I'd put there for Drakra looking at the spider. I'll recreate it here.
Drakra approaches the spider, and it becomes evident by the desiccated nature of the body, and more prominently the stench, that the spider has been dead for some time. You are also relieved to see that the only webs remaining are tattered and dust covered.
Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra looks to Drakra. "Any idea what those sounds might belong to?
She then turns back to the others. "We have two branching paths, and Drakra seems to be hearing noises down one of them. Are any of you familiar with the areas beneath the city? Or are familiar with underground areas in general?"
Drakra Worpltng
Drakra nods:
Yup, spiders as dead as dead can be. Sounds like something making skittering noises to the north. South is pretty silent.
-------
As he is wandering back, he overhears the Selindra-Godwin-Ali conversation, and not wanting to be left out, adds his two cents.
Yeh, don't worry about the blade Lady Shieldsisiter. If yours is too heavy, you can use mine. Drakra pulls out his miniature longsword. I was given it when I joined the Third Crusade. As you can see, other than the rust, it is like new. Never been used actually, so it should still be in perfect shape if yours is too weighty for your lady arms.
Common sense and social etiquette are not Drakra's strong suit.
Godwin Solace
Godwin shakes his head. The only knowledge I have is some of religion I fear. But I feel uncomfortable with leaving some enemy to assault us from behind. Perhaps we should go and see what this noise is to the North.
Flynn Palomere
Nonplussed by the maggoty goo on his flail, Flynn lags back to clean it as the others talk.
Coming back into focus at the end of the conversation...
"Worry not Sister. I am sure there will be many more times to prove your metal, before we escape these caverns."
" Agreed Godwin. We shouldn't leave possible enemies at our backs."
Godwin Solace
North it is if no one else has any objections, Drakra, your bravery in scouting is worth a hundred swords. Godwin takes up position near the non fighters of the group and helps them move up as they wait for Drakra's able scouting.
Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra remains on point, and follows Drakra, giving him some space but also trying to put herself a reasonable way ahead of the others just in case something nasty might come out.
Drakra Worpltng
Drakra turns to hide the fear in his face at Godwin's comment. Softly he speaks back over his shoulder, trying to hid the nervousness in his voice.
Let . . . let me move forward to see what is there.
With that, he slowly makes his way forward, keeping to the shadows as much as possible.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Silent as a mouse, the tiny red haired gnome moves forward down the north passage.
GM Shathira
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
The northern cavern appears to have once served as a campsite or temporary lair. A torn bedroll lies next to the cold remains of a fire. A pile of bones, broken equipment, and rubble lies just past the campsite.
You notice some rustling in the trash heap, and catch glimpse of a cockroach the size of a small dog, but they don't seem to have noticed you yet.
I've moved Drakra up to where he'd need to be to see what he sees, and everyone up closer to where he is, but not in any specific order. Please make adjustments as are needed ;)
Ali Asaidi
Ali nodded at Drakra, "Good job. There's no need to let that thing close to us. Filthy creature and I've had enough with those maggots back there."
He turned to the others, "Let's get whatever ranged weaponry we have and have Drakra here call the vermin over. Everyone Ok with that?"
Drakra Worpltng
Drakra looks a bit nervous, but tries to hide his concern.
Um, sure, ok. You want me to make some noise, and then get it to follow me so you all can shoot it?
Drakra does not seem the most enthused by this plan of using him as bait, but is not openly objecting to it.
Godwin Solace
I will be in front of you when you draw its attention Drakra. Do not worry. It will not get past me Iomedae willing.
Ali Asaidi
Ali nodded at the gnome's willingness to carry out the plan. "Your bravery will remembered." Quickly catching himself at the way his encouragement sounded, he corrected himself, "I mean it is appreciated and I look forward to many more of these plans."
a little later
Noting his lack of effective ranged weapon, Ali turned to the injured archer. "No need to worry about Lady, you will be safely away from the vermin."
He turned his hands palms up, "I must ask you for a favor. Would you be willing to lend me your bow? Although not my favorite weapon, I have been trained in its use."
If Ali gets the bow, then he will ready an action to shoot. If not, he will stay behind and protect the non-combatants
GM Shathira
As you are all preparing for Drakra to call impending doom upon himself sorry couldn't resist ;) , you notice that Anevia is readying the bow herself, waiting for whatever it is to come out of the cavern. She looks up at Ali, "It's the only means of defense I have, I'd really rather not give it up." She grins at Ali a bit, "I'm also very well trained in the use of a bow."
Ali Asaidi
Anevia is readying the bow herself, waiting for whatever it is to come out of the cavern. She looks up at Ali, "It's the only means of defense I have, I'd really rather not give it up." She grins at Ali a bit, "I'm also very well trained in the use of a bow."
Ali bowed, "I understand and as long as you are up for it, you will definitely make better use of the weapon than I would."
The inquisitor readied his scimitar and shield along side the blind and elf and noble and offered encouraging words to Drakra, "Ready when you are, master scout."
Godwin Solace
Moved on Map Seems like you might be the best archer in our little group Anevia. If you can hit anything that comes out of the mouth of the cavern you may just slay the beast before it gets to us Godwin comments as he moves to stand in front of the mouth of the cavern while still giving enough space for Drakra to run back and for the large roach to be hit by the ranged warriors of the group of which there actually may be none Selindra, Flynn, are you front line fighters as well?
Drakra Worpltng
Drakra cautiously makes his way back up the dimly lit passage. When he gets within sight of the cockroach, he takes a small rock and tosses it in the direction of the cockroach, before turning around and quickly making his way back, not waiting to see whether the giant insect was following.
GM Shathira
Drakra throws his stone, and not really waiting to see if it hit anything comes running back to the group. When he's about 1/2 way back, you all can see that his attempt was rewarded with some attention. Not one, but two cockroaches about the size of a Labrador come skittering out of the cavern, legs making disturbing clicking sounds as they hurry the giant insects across the ground towards you.

Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra nods, dropping her torch to the ground to allow the light to still flow into the cave. She draws her blade, both it and her shield at the ready. "I was trained as the Vanguard of my unit. To point of the blade." Her eyes are a little sorrowful at remembering, and she takes a moment to steel herself. She whispers something to herself, but the others might be able to hear it. "For Victory..., for the Heart."

Seeing the one insect closing on Drakra from behind, Selindra steps in, bringing her blade to bear on the creature.

Get em guys, turn em into bug paste.
He begins to make fun of the bugs, but then realizes that the mindless creatures are unlikely to understand the commentary, and instead begins to work on retrieving his less than properly maintained sword from its rather shabby sheath.
Flynn Palomere
Being rear guard, Flynn uses the surprise round to move toward the fight.
Round 1
" Erg. More bugs..."

GM Shathira
Ali's damage on roach: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The bugs come to a skidding halt as they run in, and suddenly realize there is more than just the little food running from them. The sudden stop causes most of you to miss, but Godwin makes the adjustment and hits the first Cockroach, putting a large crack in its carapace. Anevia's arrows strike true lodging themselves into the cracked shell, and the cockroach flips on its back, legs twitching spasmodically in the air.
Following the initial flurry of attacks the party closes on the second bug before it can really get its footing. Ali and Godwin rain blows down on it, cracking the carapace and smashing the bug flat on the ground, almost in two parts.

Selindra Shieldsister
Selindra sheathes her sword, a little preturbed at herself for not hitting her marks, but less frustrated that she was able to at least spur herself into action. She retrieves her torch, and then proceeds to make certain both of the creatures are dead.
Afterwards, she slowly makes her way up to the campsite to see what happened.
Ali Asaidi
Ali cleaned his blade after making sure the vermin were dead, "Maggots, cockroaches, what next?"
He quickly went to find the red-headed gnome, "Good job! See, nothing happened." Feeling somewhat more uplifted than the circumstances should allow for, he joked, "Have you been cockroach bait before? You seemed very comfortable doing it?"
later
Ali went about inspecting the abandoned campsite, carefully prodding things with his scimitar and taking a closer look where warranted.
taking 20 on perception
Godwin Solace
Godwin cleans his blade as well. It would be good to get out of this dark cavern and leave its creatures alone. He helps the three injured people to move near the northern passage after making sure it's safe. Is there anything of interest in there?
