Ok, I've waited for courtesy long enough, I do hope they're ok, either way post coming soon
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
I will post tonight, though I cannot heal Soba.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
In that case I'll wait a bit longer, as I was considering casting obscuring mist, and call soba back with a withdrawal action, but if you could take out the a goblin or two or if you could distract the monk, that would alter my plan
Edit: nice spell, with how stupid goblins are you might have just taken both of them out of the fight effectively, with them continueing to attack each other
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
The dice gods seem to really hate me...
Also, I'm not sure we can beat this monk, the three attacks per round and d8 unarmed damage seems to imply that he's atleast level six.
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
He is a bit of a monster, yes. Hopefully we'll manage.
Or he'll crush our skulls beneath his booted heel and we'll have to admit out high powered gestalt team was smooshed by a monk.
One or the other.
He's not level 6. That would be ridiculous, even for this game. XD
If you need added incentive, though, you'll level up for beating him. He is most assuredly a Boss, and I encourage treating this fight accordingly.
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
...in the case, I'm switching to Easy.
What? It's what I usually do when a boss fight makes me taste the elf feet.
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
Six did seem a bit much, but that is what made sense considering. Of course Out of Character I know who we are fighting and its very understandable that he is giving us a hard time, as he would be challenging even without any adjustment to his stats at this level. He's probably gestalt like us or something else to make him extra nasty, good thing his flurry thus far is flurry of misses.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
I'm thinking he might be level four,
In general, you can expect bosses to be - at least - gestalt characters in their own right.
And then those of you who know who enemies are get to wonder what they were gestalted with and whether or not that changes their strategies... *Ominous GM laughter*
Male. Vaguely humanoid Ninja 3/Bard 1/Ranger 2/Scholar 1
I make a habit of not joining PBPs that I've already played through
This being a soft rule not a hard one though.
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
I've only experienced most of the first book for RotRL, though I do own the book, and plan to GM it at some point in time.
The character we are fighting is normally multiclassed, so switching to gestalt wouldn't be hard, though it's not like you have to use his dip to decide what he is gestalted with.
Unless I felt like adding diversity, of course. XD But yes, he's fairly straightforward, all things considered. And he IS beatable here (unless the die just roll absolutely terribly for all of you), so don't worry about that. I'm not planning to try and kill you off this early in the game.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Though having deflect arrows this early kinda screws me over just a tad.
Well, you do have that longsword, I believe... though it's also true that, yes, some enemies are more capable versus certain builds. On the bright side, you're gestalt - you should be able to manage at least two effective roles in combat, and doing so should start to get easier as soon as this battle is over with. Level 1 is kind of awkward no matter how you're set up, and I, for one, am looking forward to all of you getting past it. ^^

I look forward to Tanwen getting spells so she has more options.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Finally some decent luck, something like 25 damage this round, and he might be on the ground from the cat tackle (or from damage)
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
I have a bit of bad news guys, I was involved in a fairly bad car accident last night which resulted in a broken pinky and possibly a broken wrist, this may very well impact my posting capacity.
That's indeed not good - I hope you're able to heal up soon, Tanwen! If it becomes too much of an issue for you, don't worry, I'll understand. Just let me know if you don't think you'll be able to keep going.
Male. Vaguely humanoid Ninja 3/Bard 1/Ranger 2/Scholar 1
Man that sucks
Hope you feel better...

Quote: If you need added incentive, though, you'll level up for beating him. I'm going to get started on leveling up
How do you do HP after 1st? Roll, average or max?
And did the monk have any loot?
It's amazing what you can learn by checking the first page of the recruitment thread.
As for loot: a composite shortbow with 20 arrows, a ring of protection +1, one set of masterwork thieves' tools, a masterwork flute, silver earrings (25 gp for the pair), a journal, 6 pouches of gold dust worth 50 gp each, 8 pouches of silver dust worth 5 gp each, and 10 pp.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Sorry about that, sweet on the max HP though, am I to assume that that also applies to Animal companions?
Anyone want dibs on anything?
Animal companions follow normal level-up procedures, which I believe is half HP per hit dice. Call it... incentive to avoid just throwing them into a mob of enemies. ^^
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Actually standard is average rounded up, so for a D8 animal companion that would be 5 (rounded up from 4.5)
Second most common would be roll
Toughness just became more valueable and is his 3rd hit dice feat.
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
Are we actually second level now, or are we simply going to be once we find Ameiko and head out? Extra hit points look might nice right now...
I was kind of waiting for you to finish deciding what to do with the guy. XD That said, yeah, you can level now.
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
YES! Fear the almighty power of the spell...FAIRY FIRE!
Sorry, second level isn't all that exciting for either an Oracle or Bolt Ace. More hit points and AC are welcome, however.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
An extra point of BAB and another spell per day is still nice
...
Me I get a feat, 1d6 damage towards flat footed or flanked enemies that count as my favored enemies (for now that means goblinoids) or who are in my favored terrain (right now nothing) spell strike another hit dice for my animal companion, better saves, another spell per day higher BAB more HP and an increase to caster level
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
Well, yes, but I get FAIRY FIRE! Usually only Druids get that.
But yes, the extras to saves, hit, AC and such are all nice. Just not as shiny as some of you guys new toys. Next level's a little more fun.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Next level I get a favored terain, another feat, and a magus arcana
I was thinking, since I want to do melee effectively in addition to ranged, both because of character reasons and because I can't use spell strike with a bow, I'd take the blade bonded archetype
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
Whenever I see a Gestalt game I'm tempted to make a Bladebound/Kensai Magus - Blade Adept Arcanist so I can duel wield two talking swords. I can never quite figure out what I'm doing with it, though.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
I made a level 20 mythic character with a very similar build to that (not a blade adept)
It focused on anti caster tactics,
It did well in the mythic game I was in
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
Rednal, how do you want to handle my sword bond ability, as I get a free masterwork weapon with that. Also I get a free spellbook, not sure how to handle that either.
Additionally should I start with arcanist spells prepared or am I correct in assuming that I have to rest and prepare them first.
You can pick up the new things the next time you would normally rest and prepare. ^^ Call it, say, retrieving from your luggage.
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
Leveled up Tanwen, pretty sure the only part missing currently is her block for Arcanist spells prepared and per day.
And her masterwork Falcata.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
My phone phone won't zoom in on the pic...
Edit: never mind, found another copy on the internet that was bigger, I got the gist of it now
It's my birthday, so everyone gets a boon! You can choose from one of the following:
1) Emergency Heal: As a free action, restore yourself to full HP. One use.
2) Bag of Gold: It jingles and jangles - how much is inside?
3) Additional Spell Known: Expand your knowledge and learn something new.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
Happy Birthday GM!
Are we allowed to ask how old you are now?
Ooh, tough one between #1 , I don't suppose soba gets one?
now if I was a spontaneous caster, or if it would be an extra spell per day, that's be different.
Best to not underestimate the additional variety - and no, animal companions and the like don't get a boon of their own, though you can use the Emergency Heal on them if you want to.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
In that case option #1 it is! For story reasons I'd prefer Soba not die.
Though I note you've avoided the question tangentially regarding your age. ;D
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
I assume Rednal is older than hills and more ancient than mountains.
I know boon 3 is the most powerful, but I really like shiny crap so I'll go for number 2.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
You can buy new spells known, whether through pages of spell knowledge for spontaneous people, or through buying or looting the spell books of others for non spontaneous (they also have the option to research spells, and copy them from allied people,)
A contiegient heal spell as a magic item is expensive!
Sure it's one time use, but it also doesn't take up a slot, and I can use it on soba.
Female Ifrit/Human (Chelish) Cleric (Sacred Attendant/Divine Paragon) of Arshea 1 | HP: 8/8 Channel 5/5| AC: 15, T: 15, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3, Will: +4 | BAB: +0, CMB: +0, CMD: 13 | Init: +3 | Perception: +2 | Active Conditions:
Happy birthday Rednal, I believe I will go with #2 as well :).
Pro Tip: Don't send Soba into a mob of enemies alone if you want to keep him alive. XD At least, not unless he's a few levels above them...
Tanwen, Shalluk, you each get 1000 GP.
Male Athenian Elf Preserver (arena mage) 2/psion (mercenary psion)2
He's got a higher AC than I do and no ranged options, what's my alternative, just not use him?
Male Tiefling Brawler 1 | HP 12/12 | AC: 18, T: 13, FF: 15 | Fort: +4, Ref: +5, Will: +2 | BAB: +1, CMB: +6, CMD: 19, | Init: +2 | Perception: +6 |
Send her in as a flanker. And buy some armour, maybe? I'm not sure if Soba is a familiar or animal companion, so I dunno if she got a feat with this level up, but if you haven't used it yet and she is an animal companion then you could grab light armour proficiency and some armour.
Or you could grab some barding, at the expense of speed and weight.
Female Panther Animal Companion
Soba is actually both. she's sorta a gestalt character herself!. Would light barding penalize movement? I'm not actually sure how the rules on that work,
For the record soba has a movemt rate of 50.
