GM Nayr
Zazaria whacks her spider a glancing blow, and the creature swings comically in the webs just above its assailant’s head. Vrilli swings a vicious strike, but unfortunately it slices through only webbing, the spider in it scurrying away.
Leeoli strikes upward and skewers the arachnid that he had already hurt. An odd squealing, hissing sound comes out of the beast as it dies, it’s sharp legs grasping ineffectually at the blade in it’s underbelly.
Anyi’s strike misses by quite a bit, as the thick webs around her hamper her movement.
The spiders attack!
Attack Leeoli: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Damage Leeoli: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Attack Vrilli: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Damage Vrilli: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Attack Anyi: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Damage Anyi: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Attack Zazaria: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Damage Zazaria: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Bad luck, Z! 1 more damage and another fort save or suffer 1 STR damage. Everyone's up.
Zazaria Rooke
Fort save: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Good grief! Strength drops to 6.
Zazaria hisses in suppressed pain and her face turns deathly pale. Nonetheless, she jabs grimly at the spider that continues to menace her. The blow comes nowhere near the verminous villain.
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Leeoli Maleye
Attack+flank/Damage: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 191d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ignoring the spider at his back, Leeoli leaps toward the spider attacking Zazaria, angling his rapier at grisly fangs, rolls, and prepares to parry.
GM Nayr
Vrilli's attack once again gets caught up in the webs, and Zazaria's flagging strength forces her own wide of its mark. Leeoli, however hit home with his strike. After taking a small step to gain a better angle, he drives his blade into and through the spider attacking Zazaria.
The spider that had attacked Leooli tracks its target's movements, and strikes!
Attack Leeoli: 1d20 ⇒ 10
The little beast dashes forward through its web, impossibly fast, but Leeoli slashes aside with his skewered-spider-sword, slamming the creature aside and dashing it against the wall. The spider moves much slower as it scrabbles along the ground in an attempt to get footing with its pointed legs.
Anyi still up
GM Nayr
The spiders attack!
attack Vrilli: 1d20 ⇒ 18
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
attack Anyi: 1d20 ⇒ 20
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Crit check Anyi: 1d20 ⇒ 2
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Each of the little creatures scores a hit on their intended targets, and their venom sets to do its work.
2 damage to each! Fort save DC13 for each of you, or suffer 1 STR damage. Top of the order; only 3 left.
Vrilli
Save(Fortitude): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Vrilli grits his teeth and silently groans as he feels his muscles stiffen as the venom takes hold.
Enough now Vrilli whispers imperceptibly as he attempts to make a spider kebab
Attack(Longsword): 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 2 = 8
Damage(Longsword): 1d8 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 2 = 4
Anyi Iba
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Anyi doubles over in pain for a moment feeling the venom moving through her veins. She suddenly straightens up with with a look of determination on her face.
She lunges at the nearest spider with her dagger
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 1 = 14
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
GM Nayr
Alas - 16
Leeoli once again skewers a spider, his blade piercing the arachnid's carapace and plunging into its wet innards. The vile little creature falls to the ground as Leeoli pulls back his blade, but it still seems able to scuttle forward towards its attackers booted feet.
Anyi, Vrilli, and Zazaria all swipe at their quick adversaries, but their sagging strength seems to affect the blows, and they each miss.
The spiders respond, once again trying to make a meal of these tender morsels that invaded their home.
Leeoli: 1d20 ⇒ 4
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Vrilli: 1d20 ⇒ 1
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Anyi: 1d20 ⇒ 18
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Bad luck Anyi; 1 damage and another DC13 fort save or suffer 1 pt STR ability damage
Leeoli Maleye
Attack+flank/Damage: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 91d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Be damned!
Leeoli misses his thrust, having thought his last had bled the creature out.
Looking at his sagging friends.. Flank them!
GM Nayr
Though Vrilli and Anyi both slam home attacks on the wicked little beasts, still they come!
attack Leeoli: 1d20 ⇒ 5
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
attack Vrilli: 1d20 ⇒ 13
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
attack Anyi: 1d20 ⇒ 3
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
However, the strength of the beasts is flagging. After the one near Leeoli misses its attack, it slinks off into the darkness. The other two seem to have lost some aggressiveness as well, though they still attack, if half-heartedly.
The one near Leeoli is slinking away, you can chase it if you like. The other two are still there, everyone is up
Leeoli Maleye
Leeoli ignores the fleeing spider (to where?) and dashes in at the one confronting Anyi.
Attack+flank?/Damage: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 241d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Leeoli Maleye
Eck.. Damn spiders. Let's finish this Zaz! Leeoli smiles while preparing to dodge an attack. Then maybe head back to the tavern for a mug of some beef stew with carmelized onions and leeks, eh? No need to do this in one go!
Zazaria Rooke
Sorry folks...a dose of some viral nasty has had me laid low for the last few days
Zazaria, with increasing desperation, flails at the spider engaging Anyi...
Attack/flank: 1d20 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) - 1 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
...and howls with satisfied rage mingled with fear as she dishes out a massive blow on the creature's back.
GM Nayr
Leeoli successfully cuts Anyi's spider mostly down the middle; it attempts to scramble away but takes a circuitous path due to it's severely limited mobility. It joins Leeoli's last victim, desperately seeking protection that may not be coming in a remote corner of the room.
Zazaria takes a mighty swing, and bats the creature across the room, where it slams a wall with a sickening crack and sinks down to the floor, where it attempts to flip over with broken legs. Though still alive, it seems not to wish to continue the fight.
Anyi's still up! Two spiders have gone to the NE corner, and one to the SE corner, where it slammed into the wall. They're still alive, though barely, and don't seem to have the ability to scurry up into their webs, which are overhead in the corners.
GM Nayr
The spider attacking Vrilli continues to attack its opponent, seemingly ignoring the woes of its companions.
Attack Vrilli: 1d20 ⇒ 12
damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Though it has taken some of Vrilli's strength, the spider still sees its bite batted aside by the swinging man. It scrabbles to find a new spot from which to attack.
Anyi stabs at the pitiful creature in the corner and takes another chunk out of its hide. The creature curls up into a ball, as if the defense mechanism may protect it from future harm.
On the run now...3 of them are cowering in the corner trying to avoid more attacks...one is still fairly well attached to Vrilli.
Leeoli Maleye
Yes! Nice stab Anyi, but do not forget your bow!
Leeoli moves in to attack the one nearest Anyi I think
Attack+flank, dmg: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Zazaria Rooke
Zazaria, with a surge of fresh energy, lurches forward and chops crudely at her arachnid nemesis once more.
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
She shakes her head angrily as her blow goes wide, knowing that it would have been a mighty blow but for her exhaustion and lack of skill. I must learn the way of combat, or we will never survive to oppose our enemies. Pharasma, aid me!
GM Nayr
There are still 2 spiders, now none are still actively attacking. The other remaining two are huddled against the bottom corner of the wall. Since they're basically trying to run from you, you could pursue and kill them or leave them be
Anyi attacks the spider attacking Vrilli, and this time skewers it; the little arachnid curls up pitifully as it wiggles, and ultimately dies. Alas, her three companions miss the scrabbling little beasts.
Leeoli Maleye
As an ecologist I believe these creatures are part of the natural order, and therefore extinction should not be pursued. However, as I do not want to be attacked behind my back by these creatures again...
Attack+flank/Damage: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 101d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
gah.
Leeoli Maleye
crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 281d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Took Vrilli's lead and posted next rounds combt rolls to speed things along once GM Nayr returns....heh that was two natural 20's!
Zazaria Rooke
Zazaria jabs in a desultory manner at one of the slow-scrambling spiders...
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
..and is unsurprised to contact the flagstones instead, now sticky with mangled spider innards. if i were not so tired, I could think clearly. there must be some thing I could do to better our chances in combat. Especially against lowly spiders!
GM Nayr
Leeoli squashes one of the spiders into a mess of loosely splattered gore. Its remains don't even twitch so sudden is its death.
The other creature, lying and playing dead, loses its ability to dodge any potential attacks. It is cut into tiny ribbons of dying, squirming legs and flowing gore.
Being that the spider was playing dead, it's essentially treated as flat-footed, so Vrilli and Anyi both hit. 800 XP added to summary tab.
After the battle with the spiders, the cabinet in the northwest wall is reachable, though its covered by a few gossamer strands. After a quick inspection for traps, Leeoli pops it open, to find five vials of clear liquid - looking like water, a scroll, and a wand. Aside from the cabinet and the now deceased spider, the former chapel room seems to be empty.
Leeoli Maleye
Leeoli studies the vials, scroll, and wand intently casting his mind back to his old master af arcana.
Spellcraft Wand: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + (2) = 15
Spellcraft scroll: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (15) + 7 + (2) = 24
Spellcraft vials: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 7 + (6) = 20
