Ziranu hears voices on the other side. A human voice is giving some sort of update on how the attack on the castle is going outside. You can't make out the words, but the tone suggests it isn't going well for the defenders.

The voice that answers is much more booming and inhuman, its volume making it a little easier to make out. It berates the first speaker and demands that the stairs be defended to create a choke-point for invaders.

Yes, Haste is still active.

This is the main stair landing, a wide curving stairwell leading down. A balcony overlooks it.

It is currently guarded by five Gray Maidens, three on the balcony, two on the landing of the stairs, being commanded by a massive devil armed with a chain. They are facing downward, but turn in shock as the door bursts open.
