The Twinhorn reinforcements benefit is still active, but you each only get it once.
Since most are readied, and Mavin missed, still need actions from Gaia and Thran to move on...
Thran
|
Thran moves up next to Atticus and readies his falchion to swing it any enemy who comes close enough for him to hit
To hit readied attack vs AC: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20 (using twinhorn)
slashing damage hit hit: 2d4 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 + (3, 5) = 20

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
Medda rides by, calling above the din of the raging battle, “The path is clear—we can reach the valley that holds the stone circle. Let us band together and stop the undead tide. I am concerned that some of the foul creatures had the name ‘Eshimka’ on their rotting lips. We must stand together and use all of our power to close this black portal before it’s too late!”
Fighting side-by-side, the Twinhorn following and Pathfinders have carved a path to the stone circle. This affords only a brief opening to stop the undead army, and the fighting will be difficult.
@Table GMs: You have until October 5 to run encounter J on page 38. The Uncertain Opportunity condition on page 38 is in effect.
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Gaia seems to have disappeared, so let's proceed without her.
The ectos come at you, but you are prepared for them. Tere destroys the first one, then Thran slices one into oblivion without blinking an eye. Tolinath cuts the last one into multiple slices before it even knows it was destroyed!
With the encampment safe, you now go looking for the source.
The clearing on the riverbank features a circle of standing stones with a large stone altar at its center. A shadowy tear floats above the altar, so dark that what little light shines from the stars seems to become trapped inside. Eight large tendrils of inky darkness coil around the menhirs as if keeping the stones in a stranglehold. Other tendrils lick out from the shadowy rift as if tasting the air.
Atticus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Gaia: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Mavin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Tere: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Thran: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Pink: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
This armored skeleton stands in a battle-ready pose, its weapon held high as cold blue light shines in its eye sockets.
For every 5 that you beat the DC, you may ask for one piece of information from this list.
These bloody skeletons are coated in a slick layer of blood and gore, infused with negative energy. This gore allows the skeleton to reform and heal itself.
For every 5 that you beat the DC, you may ask for one piece of information from this list.
OK, race to the finish! So, you are pretty far away - if you want to, you can tell me your next 3-4 turns if its just going to be movement and/or buffs. The creatures are defending the tear, so they will not coming to you unless you show yourselves to be too deadly from afar. This way, we can avoid a few days of "I double move" for everyone. I will resolve round by round, though.
Atticus Atkinson

Know Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Know Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Atticus races at top speed toward the undead. The leader looks to be tough, a Skeletal Champion I bet.
That's 3 rounds of double moves, if none of the terrain is considered difficult.
Tere di Montefeltro
|
Untrained Knowledge (Religion), second check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
"Watch those other ones, too--they're bloody skeletons. They can heal themselves!" Tere follows Atticus at a trot, and asks the paladin, "My sword didn't cut the other skeleton--what works best against them?"
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Unless I am missing something, untrained knowledge checks are capped at 10. So no extra info unless someone else has the skill.
Tere di Montefeltro
|
The spoiler text for DC 10 said they could heal themselves; the rest of that was recalling the previous fight.
Gaia Lightfairer
|
Gaia follows Atticus down the path at a good clip. She considers jumping in the water but decides that might not be the best plan.
Four rounds of double moves
| GM Fuzzfoot |
No worries - I thought the "what works best against them?" was your way of asking for more data for exceeding the check by 5...
Atticus Atkinson
|
With really just knowledge from the previous battle and a bit of logic,
Something that breaks the bones I guess! Wish I had a hammer or something. Atticus spits out of breadth.
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Ok, let's skip ahead 3 rounds. Gaia moved 4, so we can pick it up there.
Round 4: (Bold may act)
Red, Blue, Yellow (all stand ready)
Gaia, Atticus
Pink
Mavin, Thran, Tolinath, Tere
Atticus Atkinson
|
Atticus rushes next to Gaia and readies an attack.
Come on dead one! Time for Iomedae's judgment.
Move to move; ready attack
longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Pink moves, but not close enough to trigger a readied attack.
Round 4: (Bold may act)
Red, Blue, Yellow (all stand ready)
Gaia, Atticus
Pink
Mavin, Thran, Tolinath, Tere
Tere di Montefeltro
|
Round 4:
Heeding Atticus' advice, Tere draws his light mace as he closes with the pink skeleton and attempts to smite it.
Light mace to face: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage, if applicable: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Mavin Krane
|
Recognizing the skeletons' vulnerability to crushing damage, Mavin draws her heavy flail and springs toward the nearest target, but she's unaccustomed to using this weapon and her attack misses.
Move to move 30 feet and draw heavy flail, standard to attack.
Attack vs. Pink (Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 1 = 7
Damage (heavy flail, Power Attack): 1d10 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 3 = 8
Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard
|
Drawing his Dwarven Waraxe as he hustles, dwarvish like, towards the skeleton with tattered yellow boots. Brandishing his weapon with such ferocity waiting for the opportunity to attack.
Double Move
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Mavin approaches a skeleton along the edge and fails to connect, but the distration is enough to allow Tere to get a good hit in.
As Tolinath enters the circle of stones, the black tentacles erupt from the ground, grasping for him. They grab his legs and hold him tight! Consider movement within the circle to be difficult terrain for this encounter
Grapple Attempt vs CMD 16: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
In addition, a wave of negative energy assaults Tolinath.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Will Save vs 12 DC for half
Round 4: (Bold may act)
Red, Blue, Yellow (all stand ready)
Gaia, Atticus
Pink (5 dmg), Tentacles
Mavin, Thran, Tolinath (3 or 1 dmg, grappled), Tere
Thran
|
Thran takes out the scroll of sound burst we found earlier and starts to read it as he takes a step closer. Finishing his reading of the scroll a burst of sounds eminates out of no where centered on the blueish skeleton
Caster lvl check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 DC is scrolls caster lvl which I assume is 3 - for minimum lvl required to cast a second lvl spell - +1 = 4
5ft step, move action to get the scroll, standard to cast it. Should hit no party members but hit the big bad guy and pink and blue
Sonic damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4 no save - but being undead they can't be stunned either :(
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Thran finishes off pink.
Is a raspy, eerie voice, the red one utters "Stay in the circle. Kill the dwarf."
Blue turns and heads for Tolinath. If Tere, Gaia or Atticus has 10' reach, they get an AoO for movement. Yellow tears at him with claws. You notice that the tentacles are not bothering the undead at all.
The leader steps in and swings his sword at Tolinath, practically taking his head off!
Blue scimitar vs Tolinath: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Yellow Claw vs Tolinath: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Yellow Claw vs Tolinath: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Red Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Crit Confirm?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 7) + 6 = 18
Round 5: (Bold may act)
Red , Blue (3 dmg), Yellow (3 dmg)
Gaia, Atticus, Mavin, Thran, Tolinath (22 or 20 dmg, grappled, unconsious, bleeding), Tere
Mavin Krane
|
Mavin rushes into the fray, whipped into a shrieking rage by her comrade's fall, and swings for the undead giving orders.
Free action rage, move through difficult terrain, standard attack red.
Attack vs. Red (rage, Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 25
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 24
Damage (heavy flail, rage, Power Attack): 1d10 + 4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 3 + 3 = 13
Crit Bonus Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 3 + 3 = 11
3/6 rounds of rage remaining. -2 AC (rage).
Atticus Atkinson
|
Atticus steps up and takes a swing.
longsword v. Blue: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tere di Montefeltro
|
Round 5:
Seeing the effect the tentacles had on Tolinath, Tere vaults to the top of the stone and closes with the clot of skeletons. If he still has an action left, he'll attack Blue; I'll roll it just in case.
Mace to blue face, incl. +1 for higher ground: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Mace damage, if applicable: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Even with the resistance to the blade, the sheer force of Mavin's attack shatters the skeletal champion! Tere lands a well placed blow on the blue, crushing it to the ground as well.
Round 5: (Bold may act)
Yellow (3 dmg)
Gaia, Atticus, Mavin, Thran, Tolinath (22 or 20 dmg, grappled, unconsious, bleeding), Tere
Gaia Lightfairer
|
Gaia carefully moves to get into flank with the skeleton, and swings with her mace.
Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Gaia tries to smash the last defender, but gets caught in the tentacles and is unable to complete the attack.
Round 5: (Bold may act)
Yellow (3 dmg)
Gaia (grappled), Atticus, Mavin, Thran, Tolinath (22 or 20 dmg, grappled, unconsious, bleeding), Tere
Thran
|
Thran drops the spend scroll and draws his wand as he moves up behind Tolinath and touches the grabbed bleeding limp dwarf
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
And now we hope that's enough..
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Thran is grappled by black tentacles as he tries to reach
Everyone in the circle takes Negative energy damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1. Will save D.C. 12 for half
Tolinath can roll to stabilize, but I'll move on to try to finish this up today!
The last skeleton tries to tear Marvin apart, but she just manages to fend off the attacks.
Yellow Claw Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Yellow Claw Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Party up!
I am on phone - will post startups when back at computer.
Atticus Atkinson
|
Iomedae strike you down! Atticus shouts at the last skeleton, smiting the creature and stepping forward to attack.
move - 5' step, swift - smite evil, standard attack
longsword + smite: 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 3 = 10
damage + smite: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8
Tere di Montefeltro
|
Save doesn't matter vs. negative energy, as we'll all just take a point in any case.
Tere calls on an ally for assistance. Invoking Aid token to heal the party.
Aid token healing: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Not sure what kind of action that is; if Tere can still act, he leaps down from the stone and tries to drop the last skeleton.
Mace to yellow face: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard
|
Tolinath yells out after taking a massive amount of damage from the skeletal menace.
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
Did Thran's healing happen before my next turn requires me to stabilize? If it did I am now at 3 after the second wave of negative energy, CLW and the aid token
Thank you Thran. I will take a notch of my CLW wand if that's acceptable

With the lieutenants slain, you can now attempt to close the rift.
You can due this by performing a sealing ritual and succeeding at a total of three Average skill checks for one or more of the following skills: Knowledge (arcana, planes or religion), Linguistics, Perform (oratory), Spellcraft, or Use Magic Device.
Each PC can attempt a single skill check. Expending an ability that uses positive energy—such as casting a spell with the healing descriptor or using a cleric’s channel positive energy class feature—grants a bonus on a single check equal to the level of the spell; for channeled positive energy, the bonus is equal to the number of d6s rolled. If a PC’s result would meet the Hard skill check DC, the check instead earns two successes. A PC who completed a similar ritual in Pathfinder Society Scenario #8–07: From the Tome of Righteous Repose gains a +4 circumstance bonus on these checks.
Mavin Krane
|
Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Mavin comes out of rage, stows her flail, and observes the rift. "I don't have anything that can help seal this, but if someone would like to use my wand to cast positive energy into the rift, that might help."
Tere di Montefeltro
|
Is there a penalty for missing a check? If not, Tere will try a Use Magical Device check with his magnificent +4 bonus.

Thran
|
Skipping the will save, 1/2 of 1 is still 1 and we heal 2 after that
Grabbed by the tentacles Thran gets the feeling he can someone close the tentacles origin if he just disrupts the flow of energy and tries to produce a counter humm to the energies leaking from the portal
Perform (Oratory): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 = 23 (just remembered we got a +1 to a skill at the start of this scenario and I choose Oratory)
Am I still grabbed?
Atticus Atkinson
|
So when I read PC, I think character, as opposed to player...so can any of these PCs use the 8-07 bonus? I'll be glad if we can, as I've played it on other characters.
Atticus moves to the portal and begins to utter prayers to Iomedae, Inheritor close this dark hole and shine your holy light upon this place!
Know Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Add the +4 if appropriate.
Hum..seems to low think I will folio reroll + Silver Crusade faction pin.
ReRoll Know Religion + GM stars + faction pin: 1d20 + 4 + 4 + 1d4 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 4 + (3) = 25
| GM Fuzzfoot |
In this case, it means character, not player. But your re-roll is high enough that it doesn't matter. And between you and Thran, you have enough successes.
As you perform the necessary rituals, you can see the effect. The black tentacles let go and withdraw, and the rift begins to close.
Congratulations! We are pretty much at the end, and just waiting for the official wrap up.
Mavin Krane
|
Congratulations! We are pretty much at the end, and just waiting for the official wrap up.
Hooray! Congrats all, and thanks @GM for running!
A small smill spreads across Mavin's face, as she watches the ritual drive the darkness back through the rift, leaving her homeland free from its vile grasp.
Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard
|
Yay!!! Thank you for the near death experience :). was a ton of fun.
Tolinath dusts himself off shaking from the grievous wounds he has suffered through. Pulling himself up "Oi, me back!! I'll be feelin' tha fer the next few weeks. So who here is ready for a drink?" Tolinath pulls out a small pony keg. "This here is the good stuff. Me Cousin Ebonwolf Metalbender been work o' this fer some time. Might be a bit strong but it is smooth." Tolinath pulls out a sextet of half pint glasses offering to any who wish to partake.
Atticus Atkinson
|
As the portal closes, Atticus collapses to the ground from exhaustion! Lying on the grass, he realizes he has a long way to go and probably had no business being on this adventure in the first place. But one thing he knows for sure is Iomedae is faithful and so are his Pathfinder brethren. A quiet satisfaction fills him and he starts to chuckle at Tolinath, and though he generally doesn't partake, this seems like an occasion to celebrate. He sits up...I'll take one, Red
GM Fuzzfoot, fellow Pathfinders thanks much for an exciting and fun journey! Cheers!
Tere di Montefeltro

Tere smiles tentatively and nods, extending a hand for a glass.
Thanks for running, GM F--that was fun! Interesting party, too--heavy on the combat power. See you all around the boards!
Gaia Lightfairer

"Hand over a glass." Gaia smiles and takes a seat on a rock with her drink. "Good job all. I'm so glad everyone survived."
Thank you everyone it was a great time.

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
As Medda and Anok join your group of Pathfinders around the stone circle, she assists you with the binding ritual. Medda thrusts Ivvora’s hilt into the portal, calling on Vildeis for aid. The shadow rift shrinks and closes, releasing a massive shock wave that knocks the Pathfinders, the Twinhorn warriors, and Medda to the ground. A field of dark, rippling energy remains, suspended above the stone altar. As Medda reaches out to pick up Ivvora’s hilt—the already broken blade now spider-webbed with new cracks—a supernatural silence descends. Only the telepathic rage of some unseen menace cuts through the quiet. “You dare to shut me out?” it rages. “I see you, but I do not see her. Where is the dwarf woman, Ivvora, who fought me so long ago? Has her mortal body failed at last? Has the realm of the living at last lost its protector? Know this: when the long shadows reach out again, I will grasp them and claw my way back into your world to see your flesh devoured by my children.”
Sound returns to the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, and Medda cautiously stands. “It seems that Eshimka still lives and has even left this foul scar on our world,” she declares. “If we are to believe its promises, the fiend will attack on the next winter solstice. If we are to survive, we must be ready. Nearly a millennium ago, Ivvora held the key to defeating Eshimka. By following her legends and discovering her fate, we may harness the same holy power that banished this fiend—and together end the beast entirely.
“When we set out, it would be the privilege of this following to have the Pathfinders at our side. But that is a trial for another day. Tonight, at last, we rest.”
@Table GMs: Please report your games and boons here. A roll of 19 or 20 wins a boon, and a d4 should then be rolled to determine which one.
And a big thank you to all of our players and GMs, for making Solstice Scar a fun and smooth experience.
