Hi all,

First up, please make sure that your Pathfinder number/character number is easy to find on your character sheet!

Second, especially if you are new, please take a look at the "Campaign Info" tab where I am trying to develop a good guide to starting PbP PFS play and to how I run games. It's a work in progress, and I'm still learning.

Then, I've been remiss in one of the GM 'duties'...

So, since this is online, just share what you want, if you want. You can introduce your character best, I think, on the gameplay thread, or add some OOC info about them here.

I'm Matt, a 42-year-old father of a two-year-old boy, staying at home while my wife goes through an accelerated nursing school program. As I said on the Campaign Info page, I am relatively new to PbP, PFS, Pathfinder, and GMing, though I have now finished as an online player in three games and as a GM in two. I am hoping online gaming will help keep me sane, especially now that I am need to give up my in-person game for time reasons.


Here is some general guidance for people with gp or Prestige Points burning a hole in their pocket:

With gp you can purchase 1) any of the gear that you've found, 2) anything that is on the 'always available' list, 3) anything below the gp limit established by your level of fame, 4) and spellcasting services (pp. 22-25).

Page 26 has a table of what can be bought by anyone with Prestige Points, including "Free purchase up to 750 gp - 2 PP".

It does make sense to save, especially for a critically needed remove curse/disease/poison or raise dead spell, but a Wand of Cure Light Wounds is, IMO, a good splurge on using 2 PP, and a masterwork weapon, a MW backpack, something with continual flame cast on it, and some alchemical remedies all seem reasonable early purchases with gp.

It is a little muddled about how to do the recording of purchases in an online game. My suggestion is to write it all in after I send you the otherwise-completed Chronicle sheet, and to make your purchase public on the discussion or (if appropriate) the gameplay thread, which can serve as the public and permanent record of what you did and when. (Sending scans and re-scans back and forth would just end up making a mess, IMO.)

No problem, Wuliem! I just know a tiny fraction of the rules so (if I have time...) go looking for answers. It didn't actually make any difference in what happened, either.

Glad to hear. I'm enjoying the character, too.

What did you change, btw? (Someday I am going to venture into some off the new classes/archetypes/...)

I changed his variant from Internal to Grenadier.

I also changed around his stats and his feat, although I really want to take iron will!

I moved around some skills (disable device) and altered his traits.

That first run, I wasn't sure about how I wanted him to play, but since then I have been doing some Alchemist research, since this is my first one.

I really like the possibilities granted by the class. I have always loved Wizards, but this may be gaining ground!

Wuliem, you did blow apart (what I am calling) Asad's skeleton. Of course, you could have also blown apart the ceremonial jade katana everyone was looking for. ;-)

Also, if you are curious, I was asking on the forums about alchemist's bombs: Is there a rule for determining if something catches on fire? After doing so, I don't think you'll catch the warehouse on fire.

Hmmm. Copying would take quite awhile, and everything is supposedly completed in this one in a single day (and you have three more places to go, at least). Too bad there isn't a 'write' spell still that might do it. However, copies of the book are probably available - if the rules regarding such things were followed - in the big library in the Wise Quarter: Forae Logos.

(PS - This is the kind of extra-scenario thing that I would want to do.)

Hi all,

I have signed up to do the First Official PbP Gameday, doing a fairly short and easy scenario called the Mists of Mwangi (season 0, number 5). (We should be done with this one by then.)

I hope to do one table for each of my current In Search of Lore games. There is the small catch that you would need to register on the Warhorn site (Sign up page) and sign up for the table from there.

Player registration (which isn't up quite yet) closes Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, 2013, and the games will start on Oct. 5th.

If you post to these games by phone, you might be interested in this $1 "Wayfinder" app, for android (I'm not sure if anything else). I picked it up and it looks helpful, except I'm just not one for posting by phone (or generally interacting with my phone in any way besides talking).

We started at level 7 and just made 8th!

I am playing an Alchemist [Beastmorph/Vivisectionist].

He singled-handedly destroyed a Mythic Hill Giant in 2 rounds!

Round 1:108 damage!

Round 2: 57 damage (no sneak attack)!

Yeah! He is broken!

I really like this class!

With his Str Mutagen, he has a Str 22 +6

He also has a Potion of Magic Fang, greater +5 (CL 20th) that he imbibes every morning--after drinking his Amplify Elixir extract and an Alchemical Allocation extract--plus add in his extend potion discovery, and he receives that for 80 hours!

attacks: 2 claws +15 (1d6+15) 1 bite +15 (1d8+15) plus 4d6 sneak attack per attack!

BaB+6, Str+6, Fang+5, -2 power attack = +15

Damage: Str+6, Fang+5, power attack +4= +15

and that is only his standard mutagen form; it doesn't count if he drinks Enlarge, Bull's Str, and/or Monstrous Physique I!

It has some good ideas so far, I think.

Heh, yeah... It is -6 (45 ft), but still good enough for a square!

I tried to figure out why obscuring mists were a tactic. It seems like it was possibly done as a kindness to the players' group. Some people have had TPKs from this encounter, especially when played more brutally.

But....they didn't have an Alchemist who can throw bombs 6 more times!

Actually if at least 3 of them are melee they would benefit a lot from the obscuring mist. If we had advanced they would hack us one at a time, while preventing our back line from helping the front line because of the obscuring mist, the melee penalty and the cover from the allies. Furthermore, if they are in the border of the mist they still have concealment, while we outside would not have it. But if they do not move they are screwed. Me, Wuliem, Tarondor and pizzmic are range-focused. So it's better to shot with 50% concealment than to move in.
