Judah Locke |
Looks like a DC 20ish Jump check to me. How's your Acro score?
It looked like the others were having trouble with the goblin, and with getting into the room itself. Judah tried to find a place to see past them.
Its still pretty crowded in there. I'm not really in a position to help, so I'm going to continue to delay until the situation changes.
GM Dak |
Dimral from where you are currently on the map you could try and jump over to where the goblins are the DC is reasonablly high to cover that distance without a running start. You can see, in the next room there is a hole in the wall (next to the ladder) where you guess you could get up into that area as well, however, you would have to get down into the muck to make your way over there.
Dimral Windstrider |
Dimral will try to jump then... despite his bad acrobatics stat... but hey... what's thenworst that can happen? XD
Dimral prepares to jump towards the barrels where the gobling is hiding:
Acrobatics check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
Edit: Mmmmh... not bad after all
GM Dak |
While Germain and Judah wait for an opportunity to act and Rommin and Valia take aim at the goblins Dimral leans back against the wall and pushes off trying to jump over to the crates he flies toward the boxes but lands short falling into the muck.
The goblin pops up again, opening a shot for both Rommin and Valia. Even with the crates in the way Rommin plinks the goblin in the eye with the stone from his sling, he still manages to get a shot off before falling behind the crates unmoving. Another goblin pops up and fires the other crossbox.
R1/V2: 1d2 ⇒ 2
R1/V2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Attack-V: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack-R: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Both shots miss horribly.
Round 4 (Static map updated)
Goblins, >Party
Dimral you are prone in the pit you can try and climb up to get onto the ledge with the crates (DC15)
Valai Blackrune |
"I saw a Gnomish clockwork game, once," Valai remarks while cranking her crossbow like mad. "They called it 'whack-a-mole'. Reminds me of this situation."
Reloading heavy crossbow!
Judah Locke |
Can we actually see what's happening yet? Is there actually room for us in there? The positions on the map lead me to believe we still don't have much of a handle on the fight. I guess I'm going to have to get creative because this fight is getting embarrassing
Judah couldn't see much but his eyes were drawn to a strange crack beginning to form where the wall met the ceiling on the other side of the pit. His breath caught in his throat.
Casting Summon Monster 1
St. Germain |
I was going to delay until Judah moved across, but if he's going to stay put, I'll lower the beam back down, sort of diagonal, and try to climb up it into the room.
Acrobatics/Climb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16
If that makes it, I'll move up and right of Valai.
GM Dak |
Rommin tosses another stone, but the boxes block it from hitting the goblin. Valai works to reload her crossbow while Dimral works to try and climb out of the pit with no luck. Judah begins casting a spell while Germain sets the beam down and climbs up to get into the room next to Valai.
The goblin hides back behind the boxes as it sounds like he is cranking the crossbow to reload it.
Round 5 (Static map updated)
Goblins, >Party
Dimral will get up this round and can attack.
The Things That Come |
The crack widened dropping something through the nether. It landed with surprising grace in front of the laser in the room beyond Dimral. It looked much like a dog, but it wasn't. Strange things moved beneath it's skin like someone had packed it full of squids and it's mouth ran the wrong direction. It's mouth split along it's skull opening sideways. It made a sound that could only be some kind of strange language. It sounded like vertigo feels.
"আমরা উত্তর."
Judah Locke |
Judah answered.
"Goblins. তাদের খুঁজুন. তাদের নষ্ঠ করুন."
His voice was calm and steady. He strode forward across the platform with an air of disdainful confidence. He stood behind the others, watching and waiting.
Then his eyes went wide and his face went white and he dropped to a knee and grabbed the edge of the platform to steady himself.
"What the...? What the f+@@ did I just say? যে কি ভাষা ছিল? Stop! বন্ধ করুন! আমি can't বন্ধ করুন! It's in my head! I ফাক! বিষ্ঠা ওহ! আমি কি নরকে বলছে করছি? কি ঘটছে?"
Manifestation of Curse of Tongues. Anybody else speak Aklo? :)
Judah finishes the spell at the start of his turn, moves and goes defensive.
The Things That Come |
The creature moved in a hunter's rush as soon as Judah's reply came.
Dog, summoned with It Came From Beyond, enters play between the ladder and the chests then moves through the door on the left, jumping across to the wider ground in front of the door and bursting through it.
Acro (jump): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
The Things That Come |
Just realized this thing is only going to be around for this round. Better make it count. Judah's creature is bursting through the door in the next room and continuing it's movement (it doesn't care about being careful). If there's anything within 30 feet of the door to attack, it will move there and bite.
Since this is all happening "off camera" in a room we can't wee into yet I'll just spoiler an attack roll and let you decide where it ends up and what happens.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Judah Locke |
I didn't see the goblin there. I saw the X and thought it meant the goblin was dead. Also, since Dimral's been working so hard to get over there I figure he deserves to kill it. The Dog will sniff for the direction prey might be and try to head that way. If nothing else it will give us an idea of where to head next.
GM Dak |
Ok so I just need actions from Rommin and Dimral. Rommin to get to where the door is at requires an acrobatics check, in the square 1 south of where Germain is at now. Inside the other room is no ledge so you would basically need to jump down into the muck.
Dimral Windstrider |
As soon as the Shoanti ranger reaches the goblin's hiding place he raises his hearthbreaker high in the air and smashes it down towards the critter with full force!
Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
Dimral Windstrider |
As the hammer falls on the goblin it squeeks his eyes full of malevolence growing wider with fear as soon as it realizes the makeshit barricade won't be an effective defence this time. At the last moment it tries to parry raising its crossbow in the air, but the measly attempt fails as you all her the commotion of crates being smashed.
Then all turns silent, but after a moment you can hear Dimral's monotonous voice:"All clear here. Let's move forward!"
Valai Blackrune |
"How nice," Valai says, her tone unimpressed. "Did anyone see where my arrows went?" Even while she asks, the testy Elfmaid is re-winding her heavy crossbow, so as to be ready for any further encounters...
Are those arrows I fired still usable, or did they shatter against the walls?
GM Dak |
Yes it seems that this encounter is a bit troublesome for PbP, the other group is having issues with it as well. I promise, other encounters become much more straight forward :P. Valai I just usually run a 50% retrieval for basic ammunition to keep things simple.
Dimral puts an end to the last goblin after finally getting up out of the pit. Rommin gets the beam and puts it across to where Dimral is with Germains help.
There is only really enough room over there for 2-3 people.
Out of combat
Dimral Windstrider |
Once the others reach him Dimral points at the ladder on his right:"I think we should use this... hopefully we'll find what we are looking for up there" as he finishes the huge ranger starts climbing the ladder, eyes keen for possible dangers
Perception check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Judah Locke |
"Sound's ভা-" He said, stopping mid sentence and then slowly and purposefully repeating himself. "Sounds good."
He shook his head and looked back to where the dog-thing had appeared before running away.
This is getting too damn weird. He mused to himself, his face scrunching up in consternation. His companions seeming acceptance of the strangeness made him feel even more like he was losing his mind. Did they hear me? Did they see that thing? Is it all in my head?
Rommin Hawkridge |
"Or if you are going to speak another language, at least teach it to us." Rommin considers for a moment, then adds "That actually might not be a bad idea. If we are going to be working together at the behest of the Pathfinders for a while, being able to communicate when others can't understand could be very useful." He smiles broadly at Judah, apparently oblivious to his struggles, and adds "Good thinking!"
Rommin Hawkridge |
From his place watching the back of the group, Rommin watches to make sure Dirmal is okay after his tumble. Once they establish he is good, Rommin offers "I have a rope and grappling hook. Maybe we should use that instead of risking the ladder."
He pass the rope and hook up for Dimral's use if he'd like it.
Judah Locke |
"Yeah… Uh, thanks."
Judah sighs in exasperation and he shakes his head. He kneels next to the pit and holds out a hand to help Dimral up and waited for Rommin to set his grappling hook.
Why the hell am I doing this? Its just getting worse. I'm going to go nuts. Or get myself killed. Or both.
Valai Blackrune |
"If that woman we're looking for is in here, she's either bloody stupid or scared beyond my capacity to empathize with," Asta says as she looks around, her heavy crossbow creaking a little.
