In case I'm not around for a bit after the rats go, here's my surprise round action.

surprise round:
I'm assuming Olik managed to draw his sword already, if not that will be his action

If a rat is within reach or within a 5' step Olik will advance a step and attack. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Looking toward where Tamarie heard the noises Olik sees huge vermin working their way out of the pile of crates and refuse. Almost instantly one drops with an arrow stuck through it. That girl is fast he thinks with a good measure of respect. Refocusing he attacks one of the rats as it makes it's way towards him.

If no rats are in range he'll take a 5' step SW and ready an attack action in the event one comes in range.

Looking toward where Tamarie heard the noises Olik sees huge vermin working their way out of the pile of crates and refuse. Almost instantly one drops with an arrow stuck through it. That girl is fast he thinks with a good measure of respect. Refocusing he steps forward and readies himself.

Thanks for the correction, I have an unnatural love for extra 's sometimes :). As to the 5' step I believe it's legitimate to take on on the surprise round. They aren't a move equivalent action...technically classified as a nonaction (equivalent with delaying).

Yup, 5FS is a "non-action", but about drawing the sword. Drawing your sword is a move-action, which would end your surprise turn.
You could simply ready to attack if necessary, and draw your weapon as part of the attack... I think?

heh I'd contemplated the - :) You're correct about drawing a weapon but I'm not sure if we went on initiative before, after or during my prior post where I took some actions in response to your warning. If that stuff happened first then he has his sword out already. If not then all he'll be doing is drawing his weapon this round. If you have a BAB of 1+ (which Olik doesn't yet) you can draw as part of a move action so I don't think there's a way to draw and attack in a surprise round (ignoring feats)

Tamarie let's an arrow fly.

Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 16

It almost seems to weave through the boxes and crates sticking solidly in one of the rats as it lets out a death squeal and drops to the floor bleeding.

Salador preps a bomb and upon seeing a rat come into view throws it in the rats direction. The rat scurries out of the way at the last second as the bomb explodes taking a chunk of floor with it.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

It just narrowly dodges out of the way of the splash from the bomb but still takes a small hit. It runs up to the nearest person, Jirani in this case and tries to bite.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

The other rates squirms out of the crates along the west wall and comes upon the closest target; Salador, trying to bite as well.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Both missing their larger targets, Olik in turn steps over with his weapon already drawn and swings at the rat missing as it skitters out of the way.

Tessara hearing the rucis inside steps in and prepares for battle.

Still deep in thought, Jirani hardly hears Tamarie's warning of scratches, or the beginning of the battle around his feet. By the time he collects himself, it's already over. He looks over to Olik. "You didn't get one either? At least you got your weapon drawn."

He looks at the two skewered by arrows, and over to Tamarie with her bow. "If only I were as good with a sword as you are with that bow. Impressive!"

"All of you," he adds, surveying the bombed floorboards and frozen rat, as well. His smile has faded, clearly dejected that he reacted so slowly.

"Well, back to the task at hand, I suppose."

So, what's the crane system like? I was picturing just some pulleys on rails. I figured there'd still be a challenge of securing the crate before we could lift it.

Looking at the crate you don't notice any notable places to latch onto it or hook it. Examining the crane, it appears to be used for loading and unloading boats, it clings to a rail running the length of the warehouse, hanging 5 feet below the high ceiling, and can slide out to extend past the loading doors along the west wall. There is a hook that looks like it is used to pick up nets with crates in them to haul them.

"Does someone know how to pilot that boat the 50 feet or so to anchor it beneath this hole. It is not something I have a skill for, I'm afraid."

"I have found several nets and ropes. I think if someone holds one edge of a net at the east side of the hole and we thread some rope through the edge of the other side of the net, we can drop the net through the hole and use the rope to bring the edges back up on the other side of the crate. Then we'll be able to effectively wrap the crate in the net, secure it to the crane, and lift it over to safer ground."

Hope that makes sense. We hold the ends of the rope at the edges of the hole as we drop the net through. The rope is just to help us pull the edge of the net back up. Then we take the rope ends to the other side of the hole, so we'll be able to position the net under the crate without disturbing it. If you imagine the net where the hole is (and imagine the hole as a clock face), one end of the rope would be pulled up by someone at about 11 o'clock, and the other end would pull the other end of the rope through the two remaining floorboards at about 8 o'clock.

Driving Vehicles: When a driver takes a driving action, she must make a driving check to determine the maneuverability and speed of the vehicle that round. The vehicle's propulsion determines what skill is used for the driving check. A driver can always make a Wisdom check in place of a driving check. The base DCs for all driving checks are DC 5 and DC 20. Use the lower DC when the driver is not in combat and the higher DC when the driver is in combat.

Driving Check Survival

So, I need you to pick a driver and roll Survival, six checks, to get into position (One to get the boat away, one more to get aimed the right direction, and two additional to move the distance to under the hole. One final check to actually stop under the hole.

I'll use that first roll from Tamarie if she is the driver, in which case I would need 5 more Survival or Wisdom rolls against a DC 5.

Jirani pulls out a net and unfolds it near the caskets. He unfolds another, and then another, before he finds one that is big enough to have extra slack. He pulls out some pieces of 50 ft rope, and begins threading them through the edge of the net.

If we finish before the boat is in position, we'll wait until they move into position before we try to move the net into position or lift it.

EDIT: I moved him to where he's working on the net. Although, he probably would have walked the whole northern semicircle of the hole to measure it out as well as he can.

"Careful Olik, you're going to push us in the wrong direction. Turn your body to the left.. other left!"

Seeing Tamaries apparent skill at moving the vessel and feeling a bit awkward when compared to her nimbleness Olik tries to follow her lead while making sure the tether doesn't get hung up while spooling out.

Take 10 on a survival check to assist (16). He'll continue to do so until we're under the hole. Once there, if there's something nearby he'll use the 10' sections of rope to tie us off and help keep us in position.

Once under the hole he calls up "Could you throw down some of the sails you found up there? If we pile a few on the deck down here it should cushion the crate if it falls."

I assume I get the assist the entire time?

Survival 2:1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22

Survival 4:1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9

With the aid of Olik, Tamarie has no problem getting the boat under the spot where it's supposed to be.

"We're here, you can commence! Remember to use the block and tackle!"

...which should give you a +5 on STR checks ;)

Leaning back and watching everyone scurry around Salador smiles.

You safely maneuver the boat Don't need to even bother with the checks taking 10 would give you a 15 + 2 for Olik's aid and are able to keep the boat stationary under the hole. With the net Jirani gets it in place. Salador moves the crane to a position where Jirani can hook it up to the nets and he then continues to move the crate away from the hole with no issues.

Olik and Tamarie bring the boat back to the pier and tie it up, getting back up into the warehouse as the others are getting ready to break into the crate.

While Tamarie and Olik make their way back, Jirani begins opening other crates, scratching his treasure-hunting itch. The only selection process he uses, is to give the crate a smell first. If it smells like rotted food, he passes over it to the next one.

When Tamarie and Olik return, he looks up, the broad smile returned. "We thought we'd wait for you before opening the Sczarni crate! ... oohh... Sczarni. I better check it for traps again."

GM:
Let me know if I find anything interesting in the other crates before they make their way back.
