The shark shaman are LOADS of fun. Ask Ronnie! I play one in a game that features a certain musket wielding Captain. They are vicious.
I'll roll for gold tonight and get to work on stats and such. This is going to be a lot of fun. I'm going half orc skald (dragon skald). He's going to be one vicious guy. :) And by vicious, I mean fun loving.
This is going to be loads of fun! Looks like a wild mashup of characters.

I'm rather fond of the ol' Devilfish. And Aramis is glad he's on her side!
I'm actually looking at the Warlord class (from DSP's Path of War). Looks like fun. Just trying to figure out where I should put my stats. Skull & Shackles seems to be kinder to lightly-armoured classes, which makes me think 17 in strength, and ether 16 charisma and 14 dexterity or the other way around. :/
I also see we don't have a full arcane caster. And given the lack of an INT-based class, I'm almost wondering whether I want to rework my samsaran investigator. He's truly mad, and fun to play, but once combat begins, he has nothing to contribute...
El Ronza
No worries. He's a fun character, and I guess multiple personalities isn't the right term - every now and then, one of his past lives gets to the surface, and he'll confuse people he's talking to with people he's known previously, start speaking in different languages or accents, or just blank out. He's still him... Just a different him.
That said, I understand touchy subjects, so I'll can that idea for this game. I'll play around with the hunter and the warlord, and hopefully have something by Christmas! :-)

Yes, people from the original group are in. You're the ones making me do this, after all. :P
Summoners can cause headaches for me just because the ones people tend to play (master, synthesis) take all the challenge out of encounters. The danger and excitement are all gone if you know through your optimization that you are pretty much guaranteed a win, not to mention the reduced that of death.
On that note. Keep in mind, guys, that this is an AP. You don't have to optimize the fun out of your character here. Make your guys fun to play first. That way this thing won't die on us. For example, in my meatspace run of this, I had a guy playing a wizard who regularly turned into a tornado (much like our druid here except he dumped wis). "Steve Also a Pirate" was great fun and did just fine in spite of being two levels behind in spellcasting for most of the AP, as an example.

Just gotta put the pieces together but my guy will be a half-Orc skald. :) thinking raised on a ship on the Steaming Sea, working his way up until danger struck and destroyed the ship, leaving the remaining crew to be picked up and sold in the Chelish space trade. Obviously unable to return "home," he'd be heading for a place of adventure and intrigue and a place to make his own way. Of course, that won't go as planned.
Having looked at it, having both a bars and a skald will really help out our combatty folks a lot, since one is a bonus to attack & damage, and the other is a bonus to Strength & Constitution.
ShadowyFox
I'm thinking of taking the adopted social trait to represent him being raised by a rough and tough ship captain. That allows me to take Zest for Battle, the dwarven race trait. I'm also going to take the drawback of Mark of Slavery or Oppressive Expectations to show the sort of relationship he had with his mentor (the latter) or what happened after the death of his mentor (the former).

I'm just trying to figure out what would be appropriate. Because I obviously now have one that helps increase any morale bonus to damage. I'm going for Besmara's Blessing, so that'll give me a bonus to Perception & Profession (Sailor). I'd almost consider the reskinning of Brevoy Bandit or Cliff Jumper, both for completely different reasons.
Brevoy Bandit lets me choose a profession and an ability score other than Wisdom. I add that ability score bonus in addition to the Wisdom bonus (or lack thereof). It's a concept that basically says you had to build a new life after leaving somewhere
Cliff Jumper gives a bonus to Climb, Acrobatics, and on Reflex saves to avoid falling.
So I think they could be good. I'm trying to think of any other traits that could prove useful, since Adopted takes the social one right there. I could also make use of Armor Expert, which would help, since I intend to use heavier armors, as time goes on.
The Perform traits don't seem to work too well in my book.

Choon - can you open Gameplay for dotting? Did you already give your thoughts on the occult playtest classes?
I liked the Armor Expert as well, I think that could be quite valuable in this campaign. Given you have advanced knowledge of the campaign and you suggested it, I assume it would definitely be viable :)

So here is my dilemma. I am trying to come up with a decent class that I can play that can excel in mediocrity. Meaning that I can be an effective spork.
Trying to decide what class I could try. Everytime I come down to try and pick a character for S&S, its like I vapor lock and all my ideas just go bye bye.
El Ronza
I'm more and more liking the idea of a thrashing dragon warlord, but I don't know if I can make TWF work with what I rolled. There's also the fact that the class has no out of combat utility, which is something I love having (see my tendency to play bards). Does anyone have advice there?
I might still just give up and go hunter... I like trying new things, and I've only played a hunter briefly...
Edward Sobel
ronnie how about an air oracle or air sorcerer
i have an air sorcerer and its lots of fun
i just keep yelling Lightning bolt...lightning bolt...lightning bolt.
ShadowyFox
Agile weapons are amazing. I had an alchemist in the first run of S&S and he had an amulet of mighty fists (agile) that made him a terror all game. He was known as the Mob Doctor or simply The Doctor. :)
I definitely had to fight the urge to bring in my human inquisitor of Besmara. He was a crazy guy and I'll never be able to recreate that experience again.
But I think this skald will be great fun. If we have another bard, it's going to be really good since there's very little overlap.
I think Armor Expert or Cliff Jumper (reskinned as like a rigger trait, since the Steaming Sea is an exceptionally dangerous place to be in the rigging of a ship). Still trying to decide.
El Ronza
That's fine, Ed! Nothing to apologise for :) To be honest, even the locals sometimes forget about my sorcerer. The oracle with the spear and the tiger has made a lasting impression, though...
Alright I'll drop the 14 into con and try to figure out where to put my human +2 (dex, probably). Hopefully I'll have a sheet soon, and I can get a character after.
Ausk Goruzka
Nope. Vivisectionist/Internal Alchemist. He was nearly impossible to take down to 0. In one of the battles, he got his allies and himself immune to fire damage and turned his body into a makeshift fire bomb. It was amazing.
I've got to change the whole sheet, but here'll be Ausk. The big thing I'm toying with is using this version of Ausk's traits (the River one and Talespinner), so he has those things I really wanted for him. The two I'm stuck between is whether to go Fate's Favored, so he has a +2 on all his saves or if I go that Zest for Battle trait.
I'm also stuck as far as which drawback (between Slave Brand or Oppressive Expectations) to choose, since both make good sense.
GM Choon
The cast so far:
Adam Warnock: unknown, will join later
ShadowyFox: Half orc Skald
Edward Sobel: human Stalker
Omlek: Sabine, shark druid
Rising Phoenix: swashbuckler?
El Ronza: Thrashing Dragon warlord
Angel: Occult something
Bane88: Half orc bard
I think that's it. Let me know if I'm mistaken anywhere.
GM Choon
I'd like our start date to be before the 30th, if people can swing it. I'm good to go as soon as people have their alternate selves in order.
If you were a member of the RotRL thread that spawned this monstrosity, go ahead and dot gameplay.
As for races, I think I'll continue with the few-holds-barred feel of this hayride and say anything in the ARG is good, but please use good sense. If you're character is oozing cheese then I might get less sympathetic toward it's well being than normal.
