The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

The dragon settles, creating a large disturbance in the swirling water. She eyes each of you suspiciously.
My wounds are nothing. She says in a clear attempt to save her pride. Chu'ko, you are immediately struck by her voice. If you ever dreamed of hearing feminine thunder, you now have heard it. It's smooth as silk and powerful as a steel furnace.
I would have bested that demon without your intervention, of course, but your actions serve my goals, so they are welcome.
I am mighty MAURINAXIAN, Mistress of the Mwangi Savannah.

The destruction of the statue is a simple matter. The obsidian shatters under any real strain and the demon is soon sucked down the drain at the center of the room.

Go go Alathos charm-the-pants-off-anything power!
There we go, that makes up for those 1's and 2's! ...that, and Eden.

"My lady, we meant no disrespect. Your power is awe inspiring. We noticed you as we entered this foul palace and knew we must return to meet such a graceful-yet-powerful being. My name is Alathos, this is Chu'ko, Salrann, and Eden. We have killed the master of this place and wish to continue cleansing it of darkness.

During his speech, he draws his adamantine sword and slices off a chunk of the shadow demon, and tosses it near the dragon's feet.

"If you cared to assist us, however, I'm sure the purge would be over much quicker."

"A treasure then mighty Maurnaxian, a trophy of your defeat of the demon and escape from this hellhole."

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

The dragon snorts and accepts the trophy. You would do well to get out of here. The Queen had enemies, and they will not be long.
She then casts Greater Teleport and vanishes.

It takes a while, several hours, to herd the weak and broken minded souls from the moonstone spires to the Somal Gate and back to Golarion proper. They are all confused and disoriented, but they are safe. You are attacked occasionally along the way, but it's nothing as serious as when you came in or as threatening as what you saw in the Lair.

Marcus comes to you as you are wrapping up. I must say, my friends, you are proving to be quite the heroes. Time is not our friend, however. When you can, make your way, discreetly, to a secluded place. Place your keys together and cast a spell of teleportation. They two will lead you to the last piece.
We may not see one another again, so, thanks for saving my hide.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Once everyone is done doing their thing you reassemble discreetly. This is it. Your last leg.
Eden gathers the two rods and casts a teleportation spell. At first nothing happens. Then the universe seems to shudder and blackness envelops everything. But it's more than just darkness. You can feel the presence of things in darkness, even if you aren't touching them. This is a black nothing that blots out the entirety of existence.
You have no idea how long you are in that nothing. It could be seconds. It could be years.
Suddenly you are dumped back into reality. An unbelievable sight waits at the end of a snow-filled valley, where the frozen plains meet the Crown of the World. At the head of the valley, a massive waterfall once plunged the seven hundred feet to the valley floor, but the waterfall has frozen solid, leaving a braided ice column of unimaginable proportions extending from the lip of the cliff above to its base of jagged ice boulders and frozen hillocks at the bottom—the legendary Veil of Frozen Tears, the icy necropolis of the defeated rebels of the Witchwar. A fortification of some sort, apparently carved from the ice itself, protrudes from the ice sheet halfway up, with both a turret and wall pierced with arrow slits. Above this, a hollow has been carved out of the ice, forming a great shelf upon which appears to sit some sort of village. A fissure marks the ice flow’s lower reaches and possibly provides entrance. A hundred yards away from the base of the icefall is a camp occupied by a number of large brutes.

Welcome to The Witchwar Legacy: Hard Mode. Hold on to your panties.

Ready.

During the day before the trip, Eden casts Extended Contingency.

Contingency:
Should Eden be denied proper control over the actions of her person using or otherwise incapacitated against her will by an effect that can be ended by Break Enchantment, that spell shall immediately come into effect targeting her.

Casting Aroden's Spell Bane, Mind Blank, Moment of Prescience, Life Bubble, Extended Overland Flight, False Life (Greater), Ant Haul, Extended Heightened Awareness, Extended Heroism, Extended Tears to Wine, and Shape Change. Shape Change will last 24 hours due to my Ring of Continuation.

After robbing the moon of anything of value that isn't nailed down (and several things that are), rescuing countless people, and returning to Golarion victorious, Eden ferries the group to Absalom.

After selling her share of the loot and making a fortune larger than the national budget of some nations, she spends her first couple of days back in the city with her family at the Kenway estate. The Elf is very pleased to see all of her cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews, and great great grand nieces and nephews. Eden spends much of time telling the children stories about how she and her friends Elmo, Salmon, and Zuko recently fought the Devil King of Castrovel and his Infernal hordes (while taking heavy care to leave out any and critical details about events the tales are based on).

Over the course of the group's downtime, Eden takes several steps to prepare for the expedition to the Veil of Frozen Tears. For one, she takes a crash course in summoning from one of her nieces; Chu'ko used those spells to modest effect back on the Moon, so Eden wants to explore that spell line further. Additionally, she purchases several new spells and pieces of gear. Finally, she gets a slight makeover. Having spent so much time in the company of encouraging friends, Eden finds herself a bit more confident regarding her physical appearance.

(She also discovers the secret of immortality, which is a story for another day.)

Before ferrying the group to the Veil of Frozen Tears, Eden casts several long term buffs. Once there, Eden glances over the snowy tundra and the giant icy necropolis. She begins to ponder about where the next key might be.

Any knowledge rolls I can make Choon? Unlike last time, it seems like we're a bit blind about the exact location of this key.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Baba Yaga created the Veil of Frozen Tears as retribution against her daughter Tashanna and her upstart rebellion.
As the Witchwar concluded, the survivors of the rebelling army were captured by Baba Yaga’s forces. A massive purge
then took place, in which the Old Crone’s monstrous soldiers rounded up the families of all the disloyal troops.
These terrified civilians—men, women, and children— were forced to undergo a brutal march north to the uttermost edge of Baba Yaga’s kingdom. Many of them did not survive the long road of cold and deprivation, and those who did remained haunted to the end of their days by what they found at the end of their journey. At the head of a narrow valley, they found their loved ones—the hundreds of captured soldiers—chained to the massive stone escarpment. The deposed Queen Tashanna and her war captains stood huddled under guard on one slope of the valley, while the hapless families of the condemned stood below on the valley floor. Baba Yaga’s infamous hut stood atop the escarpment like an enthroned ruler surveying her domain.
While the horrified crowd of thousands watched, Baba Yaga stepped from the entrance of her hut and wove a mighty
spell that rerouted an icy river flowing through the nearby mountains and brought it to the cliff’s edge just above the
hundreds of chained prisoners. The sudden rushing flood poured over the cliff face. The chained prisoners were held helplessly in its path as the onslaught tumbled down upon them. Many were killed outright by the crushing weight of the water and the debris it carried, or were ripped bodily from the face of the cliff—leaving twisted limbs still manacled to the rock—as they tumbled to their doom hundreds of
feet below. Others drowned as the newly formed waterfall gushed down over them, stealing their breath even as it numbed their bodies with its cold.
The crowd of onlookers below was not spared the slaughter. Too late they realized their jeopardy as the mighty waters rushed over the cliff and into the valley. They fled in droves for the slopes of the valley, but many hundreds were unable to escape before being swept away in the catastrophic flood. Thus Queen Tashanna and her captains learned the price of their betrayal as they watched their loyal followers being wiped out, and saw even the families of those followers destroyed by the Old Crone’s vengeance.
Finally, as her fabled hut stood firm on its perch in the midst of the rushing flow, Baba Yaga cast a final spell.
With a wave of her hand, the tumbling waters below her froze solid into a cyclopean column of twisted ice spilling
over the cliff’s edge and into the valley. With another motion, she summoned great ice worms that rose from the snows and ice of the valley slopes and began to tunnel
into the frozen cataract, creating tunnels and chambers within the frozen tomb. The last sight beheld by the surviving families as they were led away on their long march south was of Tashanna and her war captains being taken in chains to face their own fates in the newly carved tunnels of the frozen veil that now hid their deceased loved ones. None of the officers of the former witch queen were ever seen in Irrisen again. The Old Crone’s vengeance was complete, and the Witchwar became but a distant memory as the nation of Irrisen, bloodied but whole again, continued on beneath the rule of another of her daughters.

"Before she was a Kenway, one of my great grand nieces used to have the surname Elvanna. When she fled Irrisen, she managed to bring a book of Irriseni folk stories with her. It was... quite enlightening."

Eden recounts the entire terrible tale of the Veil to her friends.

"That said, I'm not sure what this has to do with... Kostchtchie I believe. I don't really recall him being involved with the Witchwar."

Knowledge Religion on Kostchtchie: 1d20 + 31 + 10 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 31 + 10 + 2 + 2 = 50 +5 if Knowledge Planes would be the better roll.

"As for plans... well, we could repeated our Iron Medusa strategy and take everything from the necropolis that isn't nailed to the ground and probably most of the stuff that is. That camp might not be a bad place to start looking for leads."

Anything on the inhabitants of the camp? Brutes is a board term.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Eden, your mind tingles as connections are formed and information extrapolates. The Torc of Kostchtchie is a large golden necklace that holds a fragment of the Demon Lord's soul. It was crafted by Baba Yaga herself. Kostchtchie will stop at nothing to possess the Torc. You look out across the field of ice and snow and realize that the camp is overt-scale for something of notmal sized people. Just then a lumbering frost giant comes into view.

Female Elf Transmuter Wizard 20 | AC 17 T 15 FF 13 | HP 162/162 | F +17 R +17 W +23 (+2 vs. enchantments) | CMD 37 | Init +14 | Perc +33 (LLV, SID, SI)

Eden tells the group about the Torc of Kostchtchie.

"It might be in the necropolis. It is one of the last places anyone would ever look for such a thing. And if I had to make an educated guess, those ice giants are either some kind of guardians for this place or Kostchtchie's agents searching for the Torc."

Several huge tents of poorly cured mammoth hide cluster together around a cleared space in the center, and a number of giant beasts are corralled on the camp’s outskirts. Despite the biting cold, there is no sign of any fires for warmth or cooking.
The camp is a massive affair, with a dozen giant-sized hide tents and a fenced-in corral made from rough-hewn logs, both encircled by a 10-foot-tall wall of hard-packed snow.

Break the Veil Will Save: 1d20 + 23 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 23 + 2 = 38

Eden breaks the Veil as well. However, instead of the pretty blonde elf, the group finds a bulky, ugly creature with beady azure eyes and rocky skin studded with small crystals. Its jutting underbite holds large, crystalline teeth. That said, the intelligent, calculating look of its eyes is very familiar.

"Don't be alarmed. I'm still me," Eden says to her friends in a voice far deeper and gruffer than her natural one.

The Polymorphed Elf casts Haste on herself and her friends.

Casting Haste on the group. Turning into a Rock Troll as a free action via Shapechange. I don't turn have to worry about their sunlight petrification since Giant Form II does not bestow that weakness upon me.

One giant falls on his face. The other four look a little less sure of themselves, but it doesn't last.
The leader finally understands who you claim to be.
Babba Yaga! He whispers. Then agreedy grin spreads across his twisted face. HE IS THE WITCH WHORE'S BOY TOY! he bellows. The larger giants look up while you catch one or two others peeking from their prostrate positions. Ferric still reward he who brings such a head to the Veil! KILL THEM ALL!
The enchantment holds the lesser giant's and wolves in line, but your hold over the larger breed snaps and they all charge you in a blind frenzy, desperate to be the one to take your head.

A note for your morale's sake, this is the only fight with a mosh pit like this, so don't despair at the damage too much. Unless you die. ;)

The wave is brutal. Not a single hit misses its mark. You've gone from the radient emissaries of one of the Eldest to the battered and bloody emissaries of one of the Eldest in a matter of seconds. Thankfully, Alathos's magic holds the other 15 lesser foes at bay. For now.

Welcome to the Veil. Party up!

Salrann flurry-grapples one of the giants and tries to pummel him into submission.
Flurry grapple: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (1) + 40 = 41 <-ARGH WTF SERIOUSLY RIGHT NOW????
flurry bite 1: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (16) + 31 = 47 damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 plus bleed: 1d4 ⇒ 4 plus venom DC 19 Fort with a -4 penalty on this first check from pernicious poison plus grab from lockjaw grab: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (16) + 40 = 56
haste bite: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (18) + 31 = 49 damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 plus bleed: 1d4 ⇒ 3 plus venom DC 19 Fort

Bite atk=49, dmg = 17, poison DC 19
Bite atk=28 (boo), dmg=20, poison DC 19

I need a map to continue. And honestly, it might have been nice to have one before we got charged 15 times. It would have changed things a bit I'm sure. Especially considering not a single one missed a 44ac, this is not exactly a RP fight as assumed without the map. I'm not too worried about this fight, but in the future.

by my math I have exactly one hit point remaining.....I have to agree that successfully charging out of grease seems problematic at best.....

which leaves me only one sensible action...grip my rod of quicken and suddenly vanish from sight.....and take my raven form to be invisible and out of reach......

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Ok. My apologies. I am currently moving houses and exhausted. My brain failed to register that you had cast obviously hostile spells, therefore the attacks would be happening vs normal AC. I also forgot that three were unable to charge due to Grease. Hold on everyone. I'm going to look over those rings again. Things will change. Again, I'm sorry. That's all my bad.

It's all good, we just don't wanna die this soon in our first 20th level game! :)

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Ok, here it is. Post v.2!

Alathos and company are brave (and literally glowing in divine radiation), but not stupid. They advance only far enough so that the giants form a 1/4 semi circle.

Eden- Your brain is a just little addled by the near divine level magic you just experienced to get here. You finally recognize that the frost giants here have been heavily modified by abyssal energies. They look stronger, but no less agile.

Alathos- Now that you're closer, due to your religious training, you can clearly see that abyssal energies have infused the giants. You suddenly feel that something is very wrong here...

Giant stats again:

Mighty Gnarled Frost Giants.
348 hp. AC 28, touch 13. Saves 20/7/11
DR 10/good, 4/-, Immune cold, mind effecting, sleep, paralysis, SR26

>>> This is when those offensive spells went off. If you want to change them let me know. <<<

The lesser giants and the wolves are immediately cowed by Alathos' divine presence. The gnarled giants, however, gather and growl as the party keeps up it's ruse. Overwhelming Presence is mind effecting. Mighty creatures are immune. But don't feel bad. You just cowed 15 advanced foes with a single spell. :)

Babba Yaga! The lead giant whispers as one of his lieutenants falls on his face. Then agreedy grin spreads across his twisted mouth. HE IS THE WITCH WHORE'S BOY TOY! he bellows. Ferric still reward he who brings such a head to the Veil! KILL THEM ALL!
3d20 ⇒ (5, 17, 8) = 30
The giants all move in, but only about half have a clear lane for charges against the bulwark of Alathos and Salrann. The others hang back and the party finds itself the target of an intense barrage of rock-hard ice balls just before the charging line hits.
Alathos, ever the defensive star, stands his ground and the giants break upon him like a wave on the shore. He stands strong, providing a pocket of relatively safe haven for his caster friends. Alathos takes no damage

Salrann resists as well, but her method is nearly opposite Alathos' agile technique. She takes the hits as they come and laughs in their faces.
Salrann's damage is reduced to 58

Boulders are landing everywhere, but they seem to be focused on the back line, Chu-ko and Troll Eden.
Chu'ko damage: 1d8 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Eden Damage: 5d8 + 75 ⇒ (4, 2, 7, 6, 6) + 75 = 100
Chuko does a good job of dodging the incoming ice artillery. He only catches one ice ball to the chest (and yes, it had rocks in it. Duh.)
Eden, however, seems to have let her new form go to her head. She is almost diving INTO the things!
Crit confirmed. Eden, My dear, if you insist on an AC of 19 at lvl 20, may I suggest another layer of defences?

there are three foes flailing about in a grease puddle, 8 in melee with Alathos and salrann. They are taking advantage of reach so they stand 10' away. The rest (4) are pelting the caster and the ugly one from about 20' away.
Party up. If you wish to revise your actions you may.
And thanks for the understanding. :)
