All:
I'll be headed to Dragon Con this Thursday afternoon and will not return until Monday late. I am not sure how much free time I'll have or what the internet situation will be like. I predict my posting will be sparse, but not nonexistent. Please bot me if I am too slow to support the group.

Hi all. I am back from the con. I played nine 5 hour slots of PFS and averaged maybe 5 hours of sleep a night for four nights. I'll be doing my best to catch up on everything and post tomorrow. Its good to be back home, and back with the game. :)

Guys, I apologize but I feel I should probably take a break from PbP for a bit. I just wound up leaving a Campaign I had a great deal of time & enjoyment invested in because what I felt was a simple miscommunication snowballed rapidly & to be painfully honest, I can't tell if I was over-reacting or took too long to make the break.
I'm going to take about a week off, Captain Trips, please go ahead & 'bot' me if needful.

I am ready to roll. I can see the post count for the other group and am jealous. Lets get some explorin done. :)
And meanwhile I see your side of the campaign get new posts much more frequently than ours, and I am jealous as well. :P
The grass is always greener on the other side.

After the fact, I realized a further contributing factor was that last week was finals week for my accelerated college class. I have three five-week classes, of which one just finished, so I believe that in the interests of not having another episode like this past week, I will likely be taking another hiatus when my next final comes up in about a month.
Yes, I'm back.

I'm thinking about taking some liberties with the exploration system, as I feel it is somewhat bogging things down with the PbP nature of this AP. While it is a big part of the initial phase of the game, it doesn't have the proper flow in my opinion to work well in this format. Picking directions for example becomes a fairly complex and time consuming task.
What are your opinions on shelving it in favor of something that is more driven by myself and less cumbersome overall?
It would mean some seriously abridged timelines but would allow us to focus more on the actual important areas within the adventure.
I'm going to cross post this to the other group as well for their feedback.

If I understand your proposal Trips I am in favor of it. You can move us forward to each next reasonable encounter after a previous one, based on our skill sets and our desire to explore the entire area, and not have to worry about a difficult to conduct poll of opinion for each choice along the road. I will not feel rail roaded at all. Promise. :)

You could always make more interesting things happen regardless of what the dice say, I am definitely starting to see issues with it for sure, but I bet you will figure something out.
I trust whatever decision you decide upon in this matter trips.

The exploration sub-system has frequently been one of the harder things to mesh with the overall game. I suspect that is a big part of why it was so simplified & streamlined in the first place.
I am entirely ok with however you want to address it Captain.

So for my next character I'm thinking.... :D
Depending on what happens in the next two rounds, this indeed could end up very badly. I half expected everyone to approach the area and search, so folks standing back actually made this encounter a bit harder than I had intended.

Fair enough, it is what it is. We're trying to tame a savage land, we should expect some casualties along the way. The bigger question for me is would I be able to make a second character, or with his death, would you go down to 9 PC's?

Sorry for the delay, ladies and gents. I got a new project today and have been spending a lot of time on it. I am the new webmaster for the CoastCon website (http://coastcon.org). Anyway, I should be able to get a post out sometime tomorrow (I would do it tonight, but it's Encounters night). Please GMPC me if necessary.

Heh heh. We're actually just playtesting D&DNext. We have gone off track with the Encounters program and are instead playing Expedition to the Barrier Peaks using the Next rules.

I will be unavailable from October 19 through the 27th. I am celebrating 25 years of wedded bliss in Disneyworld!

Weapons and other non gem or art items are sold at half price, are they not? The value of the sword as part of a share is therefore only worth that much.
Also, the loot splitting sheet now has a "Paid from pocket" field if a player wants to add gold from his own reserves to compensate for a larger claim.

Head's up to all my games that I will be out of town visiting Gatlinburg, TN from tomorrow afternoon until Sunday night, so my posting will be infrequent. I will try to get up early enough each morning to get online and make a post and will try to do so at least once in the evenings, but I can't make any promises.
