Here is the discussion thread.
THis is the Intro to PFS called "First Steps"
So you are going to download the guide to pathfinder society, read it, and then create a PFS character.
If you are playing, this character is due to me by wednesday, with your PFS number. We will start play on Friday.
- I don't expect this one to be as heavy posting as the other one, like I might not post on the weekends, for example. But we should still try the "once per day" at least, and if you are involved in something (like a battle), try to resolve it as fast as possible.
I think we will have a lot of the same format as far as posting, using dropbox/google for maps, etc.
One thing that will be different, is there is a little less interest that you can take in each other, because you all might not even be together on the next mission that you go to. You both just happen to be there wanting the same thing, most times, and you are sent by your faction for a specific purpose.
Brayden Green
The main thing with this, is that I am a rookie GM to PFS. So those of you that have played before, keep that in mind.
It is essentially the same ruleset, but with tweaks here and there to make things more mainstream on a national level.
Hopefully from our other game you have learned that I know how to run a game effectively (at least, I hope you are having fun...), but as far as PFS, I know the game/ruleset, but the additional stuff and the buying/selling paperwork phase is what I am having to relearn.
So bear with me, if you decide to play.
Brayden Green
Ps, you don't have to pick a faction now, you are going to get introduced to them all. Pick "Grand Lodge" if you aren't sure.

Before I submit the oracle, how would you handle the "Misfortune" revelation of the dual-cursed oracale in PbP? Would you want me to give you specific cases where I would want to force the reroll? Backfill if I wanted a roll changed? Prefer not to use it at all?
Brayden Green
We could work it out if you took either. I'd need you to be specific. I don't think we could backfill either one... because you can't know the results.
Basically if you see that someone has biffed a roll, and you go in there and command a reroll before I say "everyone falls to their deaths." then I think that works.
Brayden Green
sure will.
sweet, I'll take a look at those when you're ready.

after rewriting a backstory 5 times I have one that I like lol. guess I should let my wife do the backstories shes better at it lol

Howdy! (Arknight here; PFS #37605)
Dropping in as requested. I think backstory and everything should be complete, but please let me know if any questions or comments :)
Brayden Green
I need remaining gold from everyone. Post it here, even if you have it in your player count. Thanks. Approving the characters now, and we will get started on the morrow.
Also I have some rules to discuss as they pertain to PbP, I will post them later when i have time. My Rise of the Runelords group, we will be doing it just like that group.
To the newcomer(s), we will be doing "phase combat", and "bot failsafes" on rolls etc. I will explain that after I have successfully buffered my collapsed walk in closet shelf :)
Brayden Green
Also, if you haven't already, I need stats in the player thread aboce your name (HP 6/6 AC whatever etc etc).
We will officially start tomorrow morning.
WOOT for PFS!!!
Brayden Green
This format, to be precise:
HP X/X AC XX CMD XX Touch XX Flat XX (Melee Weapon)+X;XdX+X (Ranged) +X;XdX+X F +X R +X W +X INIT +X Perc +X CMB +X

voila - Also I put a question mark next to the melee weapon where I wasn't sure what was supposed to go there. Please help, thanks!
It is your attack roll modifier. DM Brayden essentially needs information to bot you easily accessible.
Also, it would probably be a good idea to delete the rage powers you have not selected yet.

done and done also PFS# is PFS# 49988-1
what does having a pfs number mean?
Not everyone who plays PFS is also a PbP player. A number is far easier to tag an account than a name, especially since DMs have to input information about sessions and typos can prevent accurate recording.

Also also, your damage modifier on your greatsword should be +6, since you apply 1.5 times your Str modifier on two-handed attacks.

Aha, good call, I was confusing attack bonus and damage bonus.

While a character’s Fame can
provide certain titles and privileges, most tangible benefits
of faction membership are acquired by spending Prestige
Points on boons, favors, aid, spellcasting, or other services.

in the 15 years of RPGing Ive never seen anything like this before lol. Imma have to buy a new flash drive dedicated to all the new pathfinder stuff. on the good side my wife will be glad i dont actually have to have more books lol. she complains that I take up to much space with my white wolf, gurps, exalted/ and dnd books.
Brayden Green
Everyone ready? Player Intros in the game thread. You are waiting for the Grand Lodge Venture Captain, Ambrus Valsin. He has called a meeting with you all, after your recent graduation.

I bought a little extra space on Google Drive and put all my Pathfinder PDFs there. Helps me sync between all my Computers. I also use the Docs portion to build all my characters from template.

How do I get that entry out to the side on my posts???
Post it in the same field as your class and level.

So, I mentioned we had 2 things to discuss. The first is that we are going to "autobot" rolls/decisions etc if and when everyone opts in.
What this means, is that if 5 out of the 6 have posted on a particular subject, one hour after the 5th poster posts, the GM is allowed to roll the roll, or autobot the decision.
That way no one is waiting on you if you are incommunicado. (Note, this won't always happen, because the GM might be working sometimes, or mud-wrestling, or whatever and so I might not jump in there to bot before the last one gets the roll/decision in).
(Also noted on the autobot failsafe, is that the GM normally won't put you in a harmful situation, because I am not in the business of killing your chars for you - I let the monsters do that - so when being autobotted you won't be making the most effective or impactful decisions, either. So don't get in the habit of having me autobot your character too much. Also, there is that whole, "awarding credit for missions played" thing at the end. )
I need everyone to opt in to the autobot option, or state your dissent openly :)

The second, is that we will be using what I like to call "phase combat" which basically goes as so:
I post INIT, but we have a "combat phase". In that phase, everyone posts their actual "moves" etc. in spoiler fashion, (Dialogue between players happens normally) but you also post to me what your intention is during this round/phase: ie, healing anyone is my primary concern, if no A, then I would do B. etc etc.
Then I take that, and go through your "intentions" on an initiative basis, and make adjustments as necessary. ie, you wanted to shoot that goblin, but it just died, so I point you at the other one instead...
The pros of that method: MUCH MUCH MUCH faster combat. If we are posting once a day for example, and no one posts over and above that, then one combat round (6 seconds) basically takes a week.
The cons: You might not always be getting to do what you *personally* would do in that situation. You might be sacrificing a better move for an educated, but possibly not optimized move.
Again, I need an agreement to this as well before we can "officially" start running around brandishing weapons high in the air, or I need you to post your dissent as such.
Brayden Green
In melee it will be the same modifiers.
