GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

He would be out of Magic Missile range (140' for you currently) as for the air elemental by the time Natasza got to the window to see him and then was able to communicate with it (probably going back) it would have disappeared). So the intention of the party is to make their way back to the ground floor? Anything to be done before or on the way?

Not sure how hurt anyone is but healing might be necessary. I think we may have found a potion or two but I can't recall. And don't worry about Droguk, use it on you folks. I'm at 48/65 but I think I still have way more hp's than the rest of you. So I'm good. Plus, being small, my AC is way better. Especially with that barkskin. :) (Which I just remembered is on a time limit. So we probably should just shoot on down there ASAP. Don't wanna waste it).

Other than healing, that's all I can think of.

: roll20 link :

I've positioned you all in the southern teleporter on the ground floor. If you do nothing but move that would have taken four rounds. We'll pick things up from there maintaining the same initiative as before. Just in case anyone wants to do anything along the way we'll wait until either everyone checks in or tomorrow at 10am to kick things up.

GM:
CMW potion: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 6) + 3 = 17

10/60 rounds of being small for Droguk

Nothing from Cyrus. Beeline to the ground floor. If there's a trap set for the way out the door, I'm not sure how we'd avoid it, though..

sure on the magicmissile range? I thought he went down 95 feet. Or was it due to no opening at the window, i think we, as a group, need to work on what we each can do to work together more effectively

: roll20 link :

The fey was down about that far. Currently the bearded man is in the courtyard which is roughly 220' away. He would be within range of any long ranged spells however.

: roll20 link :

Hustling back down through the levels of the tower you eventually reach the ground floor. Before you the central pool stands stained with blood and the bodies of the towers guards still lay where they fell.

Party is up..

Cyrus stares out at the open courtyard, tightening his grip on his falchion. "We all ready to go? I'll volunteer to lead the charge. If any of you have any protection magics left, Now would be a good time for them. Droguk, even if you're not the size you once were, I doubt it's affected your ability to take a hit, so I'd like you to follow me out. Spellcasters come last." he says, not averting his eyes from the courtyard before them.

: roll20 link :

Doors are actually all open. Once you guys round the corner you'll be able to see out into the majority of the courtyard.

@Natasha: No worries here. Well, for now anyway.

Droguk looks to the ranger, "Then let's move, Landwarden."

Droguk can double move 80'. I can't see the bearded man on the map so if I can move 80' and reach him then that's what I will do. Will draw my greataxe while I move also.

Cyrus nods to Droguk, then with sword in hand, quickly moves out into the courtyard, aiming to get to the center of the area and immediately look around to find his target, assuming the target doesn't do something to make his location immediately obvious.

: roll20 link :

Droguk and Cyrus rush forward eager to end the battle with Nadya close on their heels. When they round the corner they find the bearded man standing on the plinth that supports the large dragon statue, scroll in hand. He sneers derisively when he sees them and places a hand on the statue as the scroll falls to dust.

A series of cracks flow over the statue from the where his hand rests upon it as the great ice sculpture moves for the first time in it's existence. It's front legs hit the ground with a thud.

"Kill them!" the man says in heavily accented common.

The ice dragons serpentine neck twists towards you and it's jaws open wide in a soundless roar.

Finding the diminutive Droguk next to it it attacks

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

The first claw hits like a hammer directly into the barbarians chest. Fortunately the more nimble barbarian is able to duck the second swipe.

Nadya nocks an arrow and let's fly at the man

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The arrow flies straight for him but bounces off the statues icy hide before it finds it's target.

Natasha, Natasza/Tough and Kobad are up
Note that there's a token for the dragon but it's right on top of the statue at the moment so a bit hard to see.

Natasha moves up just in time to see the oversized ice sculptor come to life. She pops out a wand from her sleeve and readies herself.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

How does the bearded guy look? Still pretty beat up or does he look like he's had some healing?

: roll20 link :

He seems in better shape then when last you saw him though injuries are still apparent.

: roll20 link :

Kobad advances and upon seeing the large ice dragon sends a ray of fire streaking at it.

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The ray hits, heating ice to steam on contact and doing more damage than expected.

The bearded man takes to the air once again rising twenty feet up. On the ground the statue strikes again at Droguk.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

This time he manages to avoid the first blow only to be struck by the second. Thankfully his magically thickened skin prevents any damage.

I believe your AC is at 18 with size and barkskin modifiers correct?

Nadya keeps her focus on the now flying witch and looses another arrow.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6

The arrow hits and draws blood and a grunt of pain.

Party up

Close. It's a 19. Being small does have it's advantages. :)

Boy you talk about luck! 4 attacks from that thing and only 1 hit.

As he reels from the sword like claw that just tore into him, he looks up at the giant ice dragon with fury in his eyes as it now courses through his veins. Bringing the small greataxe around, he swings it at the creature with what might he has in hopes to return the favor.

Natasza once again starts blowing wind into her hands, and mumbling to herself as she curses.

Evil Eye would have come to an end. We're 10+ rounds out from being upstairs

Cyrus, Droguk and Tough all advance on the statue and attack with Cyrus drawing the creatures ire as he approaches.

AOO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

The blow hits mightily but doesn't stop the ranger who returns the strike in kind. Meanwhile Droguk and Tough have less luck as they're unable to chip the creatures icey flesh.

Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Natasha calls out to the bearded man who locks eyes with her and immediately falls victim to her powers. His body slowly begins drifting towards the ground.

That should put Cyrus at 26 HP, right Bali?

Yeah, if that's okay with you Bali. Droguk will step 5' to the north.

Tough is actually there now. You can step South or Southeast if you'd like. Cyrus I have you at 21 but I could be wrong.

[ooc}I'm going to give Kobad a bit of time in as he has been popping in. If he doesn't get the chance to I'll post for him later tonight.[/ooc]

Okay, Southeast is cool. Will move him there so as to possibly get into flanking position with Cyrus.

No, you're right, Bali. I wasn't taking into account the five damage from the goat goring him. He's at 21.

: roll20 link :

Kobad continues to advance to close the range between himself and the dragon. A sphere of flame forms in his hand and he hurls it at the creature.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 4 = 5
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 3) = 12

The ball of fire hits and flows outward causing massive damage to the ice beast. It stands but its features are now worn and indistinct.

Regardless of it's condition it continues to strike out at Droguk.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

The first hit catches the barbarian in the side of the head and nearly snaps his neck. Disoriented he doesn't even see the second that sets his ribs rattling.

I am still around, sort of, Arrive home on Friday but have some minimal posting time until then. I hope it wasn't too much trouble while I was/am away

Kobad takes stock of the situation with both hands in front of him, a line of flame arcs between them. the very air around him shimmers with heat.

he toys with the flame for a second or two then with a flick of the wrist the fiery arc flies to the bearded man and strikes him square in the chest, then bounces off of him to the ice dragon.

"Pick on the guy who's hurtin' ya!!" he shouts again, hoping the taunt will convince the beast to use what life is left in it to turn its teeth and claws on him.

Droguk's damage may not be an issue at this point. After this round, judging from previous hits, the thing is taking at least 25 damage between me and Tough. Add in Kobad's fire damage and you're talking probably minimum 30 even if it makes the Reflex save. If the the eagle hits, tack another 2 onto that. If it's visibly damaged now we can't be too far off.

Also, what's Nadya doing this round? You normally post her actions at the same time as the baddies but you didn't post any when the ice dragon got its crit.

The flames burn the prone man remorselessly but are less effective against the grand ice sculpture. Droguk continues to press the attack but can't quite get the angle to land a damaging blow.

Tough has more luck though. His gore attack glances off but he gets ahold of the creatures leg and gives a mighty heave. The statue, already misshapened by the earlier attacks, topples and shatters on the ground.

Past the triumphant mammoth an eagle appears, screeching a bettle cry and descends on the prone man. It claws and bites at his face leaving a mangled mess as the man ineffectively tries to defend himself.

Cyrus as your target is dead you can modify your action
Don't worry, I didn't forget Nadya. Her primary target was down so she was waiting to see how things went :)

Let's declare that this way...move action to get to the guy, then ready an attack if Nadya decides not take the attack OR, if she does, fails to kill him with it. In case it's needed and you want me to re-roll the previous attack:

Falchion Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 1 = 21

When Nadya hesitates and the man moves to take advantage of the opportunity Cyrus brings down his blade and finishes him.

Quiet again descends on the courtyard as the battle ends. The heavy breathing of the survivors sends small clouds of steam floating on the cold breeze.

Cyrus draws a slow, deep breath, then releases it just as slowly, watching his breath condense in the air in front of him. It occurs to him that now is the first real chance they've had to relax for even a moment since the entire assault began. How long had it taken, he wondered? It seemed like ages but, in reality, it probably hadn't taken more than...what? Thirty minutes? An hour? All he knew was that his muscles were going to be killing him before long...the constant rush of fighting would catch up to him, probably sooner than later.

He kneels, holding the hilt of his falchion in both hands. "For any we slew here today that only worked for these people in fear of their own lives or the lives of their families, Desna's mercy be upon them. For any we slew that were party to the evil we have witnessed, may Desna see to it that they never know the peace of a journey's end." he prays. He stays in that position for a few more seconds before using a nearby collection of snow to clean the blood from his blade, then turns to the others.

"We'll have to go back up the tower, too...give those last few rooms a more thorough search." he adds, returning his falchion to its sheath. He then moves back to Nadya, lifting a hand to rest it on her shoulder, gazing down at her with concern. "Hey? You alright?"

He had feared the crash following the rush of vengeance...really, pseudo-vengeance, as the target of Nadya's wrath was not even present...would be particularly harsh. As he moves to follow Nadya into the tower, he pauses, waiting for Droguk to feel up to rising.

As he watches, after another minute or two the warrior slowly expands, returning to his previous towering form. "There you go, friend. You are yourself again. Told ya there was nothin' to worry about." he says with a smile, offering Droguk a hand up.

After he helps him to his feet, he turns his attention to the items they found on the man's body.

Spellcraft (wand): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Spellcraft (amulet): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Spellcraft (cloak): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Spellcraft (ring): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Welp...at least all those rolls are outta the way!

Cyrus seems at a complete loss for determining the properties of any of the items they located on the corpse and he silently wonders if identifying potions by their taste is something he should stick to.

He looks up at the tower silently, still breathing slowly in and out, as he waits for the others to join as they return to the unexplored rooms.
