Hey GM Fez, Rurisa would like to make time over the next few days to sit in with the guards and try and talk them closer to her way of thinking. Caggan too, but mostly the guards. Not looking to convert to full-blown Lawful Evil just yet, but maybe seed some doubts and lay the groundwork for eventual minions.
In the interests of that, are there any useful details in their employment documents that I could use to help spice up my RP?
The deputies names are Ashel Ballenry, Curtwyn Skape, Ertha Casada, and Saster Figgs. The records indicate that all of them have been working for the former sheriff for several years and all have received commendations at one point or another, the most decorated being Ertha. Curtwyn appears to have the shortest temper and has several reprimands for becoming too physical with detainees, especially when women or children are involved violently with the crime.

As an aside: are we leaving Kayal and Penance to man the Jail? I know there's a small bit of business with Zoags to pick up on; Kayal'd be glad to address that while shenanigans are occurring, if the option's there.
That's actually not a bad idea, we shouldn't need the whole party to subdue one lousy bard and having some of you stay behind might put him more at ease. Your call though.
I have confidence the three of you could handle Kels reasonably enough. You can always come back and call in the torturers as a last resort. Penance is of course free to do whatever he wants, I'm just highlighting the option.
In the meantime though, Kayal'll pick up what he can from Zoags and keep a relative ear to the ground. Maybe complement the guards on their earlier beat-down while he's at it.
I am fine staying at the jail. I could have fun with the guards as well, or with Caggan. :)

That being said though, I am having fun and enjoying the story being told. I didn't want to imply otherwise, merely to state that Vokrin's expertise is in mayhem, not cordially convincing people to take his side. I notice we haven't heard from Kayal in what amounts to a month, hope he's okay.
So...I hate to be the first to bring this up, but should we start looking for a replacement for Kayal?

None of them jump out at me really. I'm not sure an apocalyptic priest would be a good fit, and Slayer is an awesome class but I'd prefer a divine caster. Just my 2 cents
I somewhat like Trevor as a character, Nathel doesn't have all the fluff though Raltus did have a previous app with all the fluff and he just had to start over when he realized he was in hell's Vengeance not hell's Rebels.
Both are pretty good posters by the looks of it. I'll agree a slayer is not the 100% thing we need, but we need someone of rogue-ish skill, and that can fit the bill.
Additionally, I do plan to start taking Alarm once I have the slots, that's part of why I leave a few open each day, so if I have them leftover at the end, I can alarm my door and window.
Need to start scribing scrolls, but wouldn't you know I swapped out that due to archetype.

Really dig the cleric of Lissala, especially now that stats are up. Would make a nice foil for a group of more traditional devil/Asmodeus associated people like us. I kind of want to take Rurisa in the direction of worshiping Moloch or one of the more militant devil princes, rather than the Prince of Law himself.
The antipaladins and such all look good mechanically, but with only four players I don't think another beat-stick is necessary. I'm agnostic about the various rogue-types, sneak attack and trapfinding is useful but having a full caster would be ideal.
So Tara Myles is my first choice!
I'm taking notes right now, just looking through the backgrounds and points given. There's a fair few that would work on this team, so I'll have to look at mechanics next. Penance, Vokrin, what say you?
Tough call. Jerax is an active and good role player. Calamity Mary is such an interesting concept to me, the same with Trevor. I would pick one of them.

I don't much care for the antipaladins, especially as they seem so much the same to me despite their different stories. I like Rurisa in her role and feel that would be comparable to where they plan to fit.
I think we need a healer, so a cleric is pretty great. I'm flexible, but I do still also echo my previous desire for a PC rogue. :P

So I'm feeling with the full caster thoughts, as well as a divine of some sort. Two options present themselves, Tara and Trevor. I'm fine with either, Vokrin, you have a preference?
I unfortunately am not having a stronger opinion on either of them, I think they're both great, I'd almost say both, except that we do already have a slight divine caster too. For my money, I like the spontaneous casters, but these are honestly two great submissions and I can see why there's a difficult choice.
I like Trevor because I think he'd fit well. I like Tara except that she's horning in on my Tiefling-ness. Fiendish Vessel is pretty awesome though. Both are good choices, I couldn't make a pick between them.

Ask for a writing sample. Give them a short scenario and see how each responds.
I think maybe sifting through posting history & rereading their character prompt/submissions for prose would get the same effect.
Okay, after a quick dive into Trevor's & Tara's posting history for previous campaigns, neither was a clearly superior to roleplayer to the other, so since I like Tara's fluff concept slightly more she remains my first choice, though I'd be happy to game with either.
I sent a quick scenario to both, when they respond I'll post the responses and scenario here.
Scenario:
You've arrived in Longacre at the behest of Cimri, whom you've gotten to know from a prior experience. She greets you at the Northern gates and leads you south towards Scarlet Crown, home of Archbaron Fex. She makes small talk as she leads you in, asking how things have been since you last helped each other, pushing for little tidbits of information trying to pry any secrets you may have out into the open. All in good fun of course.
Sharp gables and tall, narrow windows lend the archbaron’s manor an abbeylike quality, as though this were more a place for study and solemnity than leisure and laughter. A motif of rampant stags with antlers bloody from battle repeats among iron rooftop finials and on a crest above the stone entrance. Cimri heads straight for the front door, past the halfling butler, and upstairs into the Archbaron's office.
The man himself stands behind his desk, eyebrow raised and hands behind his back in a classic parade rest stance. "So you're another of the recruits Cimri and Razelgo have recommended."
The door closes behind you and a gruesome fly demon pops into existence now that prying eyes are away. "Actually Cimri recommended this one on different merits than the others, knowing she wouldn't be able to gather everyone for their tannery job."
Fex scoffs, "Well, let's hear what the recruit has to say, hmm?" Bold brown eyes search you up and down as his mustache twitches. "Please, explain why I should want to hire you on as another retainer and how you'll help quell the rebellion brewing in the streets of Longacre." All eyes turn your way, expectant.
Trevor:
Trevor meets Cimiri politely as she meets him at the gate and chats with her as they walk to the manor. Trevor talks about being busy sending to the minor aches and cuts that happen at the farm and begins an in depth explination of how woodcarving is an excellent hobby.
An excellent hobby for those who like woodcutting, for others, it can be very boring and Cimiri is glad they arrive at the manor before she begins to know far more than she should about wood -grain.
When Trevor stands before the Baron, he waits quietly until both man and demon stop speaking and directs a question to him, he was on unsteady ground, as a skilled Slip he needed to make his inclusion in the group worth the trouble of drawing him away from his previous duties.
Yes sir. I have skills in tending to the wounds of others in both the mundane and magical area, , since Cimiri has told me there has been difficulties with malcontents such skills will no doubt prove useful.
Trevor pauses slightly. Such disturbances are ultimately unsuccessful but much harm and instability will be caused before their end. Although the wheel of law can turn slowly, they can turn and making a devoted effort to file grievances and achieve positive results through the rule of law is something they have chosen to ignore as an option and cause unrest. Such actions cannot go without correction and continued resistance by them ensures that those who abide by Cheliax law will risk harm by their actions. So I am more than willing to make my abilities availabel toe nsure order in this town
Tara:
Upon entering the room briefly looks over all the present entities, slightly raising an eyebrow eyebrow a the fly demon, preferring her servants to be at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing, before focusing the gaze of her green snake like eyes on the man before her, adjusting her Stace to mimik his. "firstly I possess the necessary skills to defend herself and not become a liability, although I prefer a supporting roll in combat. I also know how to behave in polite society. Furthermore, as you are likely know, I have been chosen by Lissala and thus I can command the tiny bit of her devine power my lady deemed me worthy of. Most importantly I know how to achieve obedience, without excess or unnecessary cruelty. The principle of just reward, giving punishment as well as reward in accordance with the actions of my subjects, has already yielded good results with my families servants and should do the same with those contemplating rebellion.
