"Faith and Steel" (Inactive)

Game Master Me'mori

Guided by their gods, Paladins are being united for a task that will tax their strength and faith alike.

What can I say, I'm a fan of unorthodox and uncommon ideas.

So! To the point, I'm looking for you shiny, honorable, law-abiding, horse riding, followers of your deity!

I'm kicking around the idea of a "Orders of the Church" idea, or the ever-classic "Holy Quest" starter, but I'm definitely going to be working the story angle on this one.

All Paladins is fine. So is 3 Paladins and a Cavalier. Or Two Paladins, a Cavalier, and a Cleric, or an Inquisitor. I'd like Paladins to be in the majority, though. This story is intended to be driven by the characters, so make them deep, make them thorough.

I want to use Googlewave because it has the potential to make for a scene that is malleable, unlike the break-pause-post of PbP. If you are missing Googlewave capability, let me know. I've invites to spare.

I'm looking for 3 to 4 players (5 maybe), 1st level starting, 4d6 drop lowest (roll your three sets here), and don't skimp on the flavor.

Liberty's Edge

I reallyyyyyyy like the idea of this

But I don't know anything about googlewave

Care to explain?

Oh also, Nice name ;)

Short Google Wave Explanation
That is the short explanation. There's a longer explanation out there, but it's 1hr and change. Think of it as if MS Word/a bulletin board/and email got together.

Google Wave in action
That's a longer video that shows it in action.

Liberty's Edge

Interesting, is it your intention that all the players should be worshippers of the same diety, or is it collaborative effort of several good churches?

Oh, and another thought, what about a Lawful Good monk, or a Lawful Good Celestial Bloodline sorcerer? Would they fit the storyline?

They could be worshipers of the same deity, or a collaborative effort, either works.

The monk and sorcerer don't quite fit the "Steel" part of the idea, though. They can't wear enough of it. I'm open to the argument that their armor is of something other than metal, but while the two of those work, I'm not looking to have them initially.

Multiclassing is something entirely different, though.

Raises hand.

I'm interested.

Are you looking for any medium armor wearing classes or just what you mentioned. I think certain oracle mysteries would fit as well as a fighter; one who is faithful, just doesn't have the magic.

Kratzee wrote:

They would, provided they can stand (nearly)equal with the aforementioned classes in regards to their faith and how they follow it. It would most certainly be accepted if they followed the same deity and wore medium armor. The Oracle would, however, fill one of the two potential non-paladin slots.

Question: when you talk about Google Wave, do you mean a game with a set weekly time that has everyone online at the same time for a few hours? Because I'm running one of those, and I don't really have a second reliable evening free. If you mean something different I would definitely be interested.

I like Paladins a lot, and I also have substantial interest in an Oracle of Battle.

Golarion or some other setting? And if Golarion, where? And low, mid, or high level?

We'd be using Google wave as the pbp location, not a set time. Too many different time zones on these boards.

Golarion will be the setting.

Put me down as an interested alternate. I really like the concept, but low-level games and rolled stats aren't really my preference, so I don't want to take a spot away from someone who actually likes them.
I'll check back in a couple days just in case you don't get a full roster.

Kappasc, commonly known as Kap by the people he runs with, is a LN inquisitor of Abadar. Formerly a Lawyer in Absolom who fought for innocence (or guilt, as the client required) for the highest bidder, he know serves as the unseen hand of Abadar. He was a successful Lawyer, often able to manipulate all aspects of legal proceedings (the judge, the jury, heck, even the prosecutor from time to time). He won, but not because those he represented were just, but because he was good at what he did. He had money, fame, and women---everything a Taldan working in Absolom could ask for.
Whether it be by the gods, karma, or just cruel coincidence, the very laws he sought to manipulate and bend to his will came back to bite him in the end. His wife and two children were brutally murdered by someone who Kap had previously defended against, and won (in what should have been a quickly lost case). The assailant, Yetesh, had studied the law for years, seeking for a way to show Kap the pain he felt at losing someone, and then there being NO retribution. He found his loopholes and struck, leaving Kap without family, and the law NOT on his side. After a case where evidence after evidence was thrown out, jury's obviously tampered, and judges obviously bought, Kap lost the only case that ever mattered.
He anguished for years, until he came to the Temple of Abadar, who taught him the sanctity of law and all the other precepts of Abadar.
So now he comes to what he is, the crossbow dart that strikes where Abadar cannot, the blade that that seeks the blood of those protected by "the law." Although the Priests of Abadar cannot break the laws of the nation they're in, Kap works on a different level of Law. His law is that there is no good, no evil, no right, no wrong, only justice and vengeance. Neither the good nor the vile are safe from his blade. If you break the law, Kappasc blade shall serve you justice, and you'll never even known its coming. Justice will be served!

Functionally an Inquisitor of Abadar, Im thinking focusing on the crossbow and taking out his opponents quickly and without anyone knowing he was even there (when possible). Im still deciding on domain, Im thinking Law...because he abhors chaos, or maybe travel, which would help him swiftly deal his justice.

Okay, I'll give it a role. Character concept will be fleshed out after I see the results and have time to think about it.

Rolls:
1: 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 13
2: 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 10
3: 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 11
4: 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 12
5: 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 4 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 18
6: 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 4

...uhm, what to do about that 4?

You're allowed three sets of rolls.

Me'mori wrote:

Oh, I was wondering about when you said "roll your three sets." Here we go on two and three.

1: 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 12
2: 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 10
3: 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 10
4: 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 13
5: 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 14
6: 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 4 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 14

1: 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 13
2; 1d6 ⇒ 4 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 10
3: 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 1 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 13
4: 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 5 1d6 ⇒ 6 = 17
5: 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 1 = 18
6: 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 6 1d6 ⇒ 2 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 11

I like that last set :)

Also, what deity do our characters follow and are there races that are not allowed? I am thinking that the feel is that of primarily humans.

Edit: I just reread that we can be all the same deity or different deities working together.

Okay, I am working on building a Cavalier who is going to enter Order of the Shield.

Then you two will fill the "optional" two slots, and two slots remain for Paladin.

Before I settle on Cavalier, is this campaign going to have a lot of mounted content?

That entirely depends on the story that gets built. No, I'm not intending on throwing you all underground immediately.

Assuming Tobias made it in, then?

Me'mori,

I'd like to apply with young Pietro here. He might not quite fit your mold, but I was trying to create a character who would grow into the full-blown knight-in-shining-armor paladin from very humble and conflicted beginnings.

As he was created for a specific lamentably deceased campaign, he has some background that would have to be changed, but I would like to keep the humble commoner family devoted to Abadar (and his trepidation about telling them he's devoted to Iomdeae), the strong sense of ideals born out of the failure of the local nobility, and his poor starting condition.

He might make a good squire to the other, presumably better-heeled party paladin.

I am perfectly willing to regenerate the character to your creation specs.

I am clueless regarding Googlewave, but willing to learn. What are you thinking in terms of minimum posting, etc?

EDIT: Pietro's Psych and History, spoilered here for your convenience.

Spoiler:
Psych:

Spoiler:
Idealistic, proud -- which he tries to hide with a mantle of "service". He thinks people with power should always do their best for their community. He's somewhat bitter about how his local nobility did nothing against the Horde, but were first out of town. He's just learning about his mission for Iomedae, and still can't quite tell his family that while he still respects and reveres Abadar, he is no longer Pietro's primary diety.

History:

Spoiler:
Third son of a peasant dairy farmer. Pietr's dreamy nature and lack of talent for all things agricultural soon had him labelled as "useless" by his family. When his eldest sister contracted a wasting disease far beyond his family's resources to pay for a cure, Pietr was contracted as a servant to the local Abadaran temple. It wasn't slavery, but just barely. The only thing Pietr got from the deal was an education. They taught him to read and write, to care for the sick and injured, to find useful planats. One day in the temple's small library, he found "The Stories of the Gods". The tales of brave Iomedae fired his imagination.

With the approach of the Horde, Pietr's village splintered. Everyone fled as best they could. An outraged Pietro watched as the mounted armsmen, led by the sheriff, left first. The priests fled the temple, and told Pietr to find his family and flee as best he could. During the panic, Pietr went to the temple's small library. The great holy books had been saved already, but some others, including "Stories", had been left behind. He gathered up his favorite book and started running to his family's farm.

The family stayed together well until they reached the city. In the city's heavy crowds, during the search for food and shelter, they became separated from first son Josep's family. Then in the final push to get aboard the ships, they lost the youngest daughter, Magdelana. Now there is only the father, mother, eldest daughter, Pietr, and the third brother.

Pietro will work.

For Posting Frequency, I know that I'll be able to manage two or more posts a day as needed. Google Wave is flexible about that, so you'll likely see more than that. I'm fine with a post a day, just as long as there is some movement. I'm in EST, just for day/night reference.

I posted two links near the top about Google Wave and how it works. By the by, those of you that have submitted characters, send me an email at H_spirit (at) yahoo so I can get the invites out to you. Golarion will be used, so feel free to be specific about where the character came from.

Just need one more Paladin, and I can start the interactive groundwork.

Cool!

I will get to work on modifying Pietro. Where in Golarion do you plan to start the campaign? And when will it start with respect to Aroden's death?

Can we arrange the stats or do they stay in the order rolled?

I intend to start the campaign in Andoran, and as for timeline, whatever time counts as "present" time according to the Campaign Setting. I'm not going to do any temporal juggling.

You can arrange the stats of your chosen set however you like, just don't forget to drop the lowest.

Once you said we were starting in Andoran, I decided to download the Companion. In it there is a PrC called the Steel Falcon. I think it would fit this campaign. I still coming up with a good backstory. Been busy today, but now that I have the pdf, I should be able to get something specific down sometime tomorrow, using the Steel Falcon as a model.

Dark Archive

I'm curious, as a paladin is very against my normal pc. I will make up a pc later in the day, as it is 1am and I'm going to sleep.

Hi Me'mori- if theres still a slot i'd love to get in on this. Will bookmark the topic just in case and get my rolls done here-

I did post this before but considering I completely used the dice command entirely wrong i've done it again here to avoid editing.

Set 1

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 6) = 14

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) = 15

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 3) = 13

This time I will also post my queries in my original post-

Firstly I'm not familiar with googlewave so I will need an invite.

Secondly- I have my heart set on a particularily devout divine-flavoured fighter- if thats a problem im happy to play a Paladin.

Edit: Really bad idea to use the dice tag in my initial statement even in quotations... as it rolled 100d6!!! Its not my morning :(

Hey Me'Mori, as I go through defining the mechanics of my character, do you prefer a character that relies on his sword and shield? I was thinking of a crossbow focused Inquisitor, but I wanted to make sure that'd be ok. Also, after thinking about what you require, I'd like you to rest assured that while the character is LN, his tribulations have definitely moved him closer to "Good" than "evil" on that axis.

Alexander, don't forget to drop the lowest of the 4d6 of whichever set you choose.

One slot is left open for a Paladin. The alternate slots have been filled already.

Kjob, the choice of how you build your character is your choice. My preference only extends as far as filling the slots, and approving character histories. Build the character. I will just be the person telling the story.

For those needing Google Wave invites, my address is listed above.

Sovereign Court

Very well, i'll roll up a Paladin and bio today then :)

I will be using Set 2 for my statistics.

One more questions- are we using traits or not?

You can use traits if you wish.

With Alexander's character submission, the four slots are filled. Lord Viper, if the character you intend to make is a Paladin, I'll accept a fifth, and we'll go from there.

Far wanderer has first Alternate slot.

Zathe's Backstory:

Zathe Dakamon was born to a relatively wealthy noble family in Cheliax- not one of the largest or the most influential families; but certainly the Dakamon's possessed moderate wealth, influence and power within Egorian.

Zathe's family were kind to him throughout his early years, and they ensured he had the best of everything, from education to training at arms. Zathe was classically trained in many formal educations as well as growing up under the tuition of some of the nation's finest warriors.

His teachers reports were mixed; while Zathe was always enthusiastic in his academic lessons, he seemed to take little in and was not known for being particularily bright; however, in matters of etiquette and debate Zathe always excelled due to his charming and personable nature. Zathe was also very proud of his heritage and made a point of learning about his family's lineage, and studying the nobility of Golarion.
From the martial side of things, Zathe's father was particularily pleased; his teachers reported that Zathe was naturally adept at combat and many of them took a shine to Zathe, showing him special favour and techniques they did not share with their other pupils.

Zathe grew up as Queen Abrogail was coming into power however, and there was many a time Zathe overheard his parents speaking in hushed, worried voices- this concerned Zathe but he could never follow the advanced language of this 'politics' his parents spoke of and he felt dishonest for eavesdropping on them; when he asked them what they were talking about they told him he did not need to worry about it and Zathe was extremely trusting of his parents.

However, over the months that came after Abrogail began to consolidate her power; it came out that the Dakamon family had been secretly been backing the opposition. Returning home after a long sparring session with one of his many young friends,Matthias, Zathe found his estate and ancestral home burning to the ground, and half a dozen armed guards bearing the insignia of House Thune seeking to intercept him. Zathe and his friend fought hard, with tears stinging his eyes as he focused his sorrow and worry into righteous fury; the battle was short and brutal, and at the end of it the guardsmen lay bleeding out; as did Zathe's friend Matthias. Weeping as he desperately tried to close Matthias' wounds, he was unable to save him and his friend died in his arms.

Seeking his parents, but unable to approach the house due to the intense flames, Zathe fell to his knees in despair. It was at this moment in his darkest hour that a servant of Erastil came to Zathe; a majestic and celestial stag that apparently only he seemed to be able to see. The stag nuzzled Zathe and reassured him his family had escaped thanks to the Clergy of Erastil, long-time allies of the Dakamon's in the days before House Thunes rise to power. The stag explained that it was safer for his family if they were believed dead. Zathe agreed that this seemed wise, and although sorrowful at the death of his friend Matthias, he allowed the stag to lead him safely out of Egorian.

Drawing his axe and saluting the Stag, Zathe promised to pledge his life in service of Erastil; the savior of his family and guardian of what he held most dear in the world. Trusting his fate entirely to his new deity, Zathe set off east towards Andoran, having little doubt in his mind that his martial skill and faith could be used somewhere with more hope for redemption than Cheliax and its foul Queen Abrogail.

Appearance:

Heavily laden with weapons, Zathe has the appearance of a young handsome squire at first glance- with his long flowing blonde hair and tall, imposing figure he looks like a young crusader. His eyes have a hint of sadness to them, but his mouth wears a wry smile as he bows deeply before you.

He is wearing simple travelling clothes underneath his armour, and appears quite heavily laden with all the equipment he is carrying.

I went for the standard Pathfinder policy of 'two traits' but didn't pick anything particularily groudbreaking; they both suited my bio which I had written up before I picked the traits. All look ok?

Here is the background for Agrimar Franklin:

To the chagrin of his noble born mother, Agramir “the Stout” Franklin enlisted in the Andoran army the day he turned eighteen. As a child, he had read about the heriocs of the men who fought for the independence of Andora two-generations ago. It didn’t help his mothers case that his father’s father was a Captain and a hero of the Eagle Knights, and told his war stories with all of the romance and none of the horrors.

Because his mother’s family had worked with the revolutionaries against Cheliax, they were some of the lucky ones that retained some of their wealth and lands. He grew up, working the farms alongside the laborers and he rode heard on the cattle. When he enlisted, he was naturally assigned to the calvary. In the calvary, his unit patrolled the coast, fighting off pirate slave raiders. Occasionally, his platoon would arrive to late, and he would find himself, not killing and arresting slavers, but consoling recent widows who had just lost her children to gods-knows horrible fates.

Once, his platoon had captured a slaver ship, but their revelry was cut short the second they opened the hold. The pirates had slit the throats of every slave, woman and child. When the platoon boarded, the pirates submitted but were haughty and snickering. They thought the noble Andarons would arrest them, put them in court, and their lawyers would have them out in a months time. When The Sergeant and young Lance Corporal Franklin came up from the hold, the slavers knew they sealed their own fates. Agrimir’s platoon, all in a fit of rage, tied up the slavers, cut them up just enough to bleed copiously, but not enough to kill them, then threw the pirates to the sharks.

Every member of the platoon was demoted to Private. The Sergeant was courtmartialed, and now-Private Franklin was given a new assignment: Work independently against Cheliax and the slavers. Agramir is banished from the regular military. He still holds his enlistment, but now must prove himself on his own that he has what it takes to join the Eagle Knights. He takes this challenge with relish.

How are we doing starting gold?

Minor snag time-wise. I'll get Pietro reworked tonight or tomorrow morning.

Me'mori do you want us to set up the google wave accounts in our character's names ?

Starting gold is rolled or average, your choice.

The Google Wave Accounts are yours to keep, so set them up as you wish.

Kratzee, I see no mention of Agrimar's alignment. I take it that he follows no specific deity?

Kjob, I'm confused. Your history mentions someone called "Kap", but your rolls are for someone named "Tobias"?

He's Lawful Good. Except for that one incident, he has never done anything specifically evil, but he doesn't regret it.

Deity is Iomedae.

I'll get that email to you.

I have never played with an animal companion. Should I make Handle Animal roles to teach it tricks, take 20, or just give it the maximum tricks?

If the mount is starting with you, give it the maximum tricks and don't forget any bonus tricks if applicable, since in regards to your mount you function as a "druid" for determining things like that.

Ok thanks. I am pretty much done. I just need to decide where to stick the human +2 ability bonus, roll for money, and buy equipment. I created a avatar here and will get my info copied and pasted soon. I will also flesh out the background too.

Kratzee posting as PC for posterity.

Dark Archive

I had a great backstory, it was eaten. Aasimar or half-celestial for PC options? Also, how do you do the dice roller here?

The basics:

Spoiler:

Alias Winrow
Survivor of lynching and murder (age 5) of his minor noble family due to scandal urged on by an unknown group.
He gave his family proper burial rights.
He left and made a life for himself finding the truth above all else.
He has a customized scythe, the only thing setting him apart from others, looks quite normal.
Killing is a last resort, he subdues opponents and questions them first. He is called callous and cruel, but he gets the job done.

I understand that post-losing error.. I've since learned to "Select All" and "Copy" before I attempt to post it, or type it up in Notepad and then transfer into the window.

That sounds nice, but I don't have the books with those races in it. It would have to be Core Races currently.

The dice roller option is under the BBCode tags. it is basically [ dice] [/dice ] with xdx in between the open/close tags.

All spots are filled, but if you are making a Paladin, then I'll allow for a fifth.

Oh, one more thing. Once you get your Google Wave account up (email me at the address listed in a previous post if you do not have an account), and I have you on my contacts list, I'll start doing small things to learn your character before the game "officially" starts.

Dark Archive

Alias Winrow is a paladin, a truthseeker above all else.
I didn't state my intentions clear enough apparently, and he should be a good addition to the group.

I am posting for PC placement

I do believe you forgot to drop the lowest of your 4d6 before applying it to your stats.

Which Deity is Alias a Paladin of? I didn't see it on the sheet.

Alright everyone, this game is full and headed towards the starting line. When you have your copy of your character done, do make sure to have a text copy, as that will get posted in your independent wave with me.

Far_wanderer is the first alternate.

I've received three emails, and sent out three invites. I still need two of you to drop me a line.- h_spirit (at) yahoo

The OOC wave is up and one person is in.

As scenes are completed, I will post them into the PbP section, just for posterity's sake.

I will have more information in 3 hours (lunch), along with the text version of the character sheet, work has me running busy. I will also gain a google wave account today.

Is there a deadline for anything? I'm pushing things late, but it's as fast as it will be; today all will be done.

Sovereign Court

Ouch @ those stats Alias :(

Have e-mailed you now Me'Mori.

No specific deadline, per se. As everyone gets added, I'm laying groundwork, so I don't have to use some long-tired cheap GM trick to place you all together, and get a sense of the characters. By all means, RL comes first.

Just noticed the "Tobias" thing from your wave. Its Kappasc, Tobias is for another game, neural pathways must have crossed!
