"I don't mean offense, it's true," Kaylayne smiles as Hialin finally addresses her. "Maybe now that there is a break in the argument, maybe it's time for some rational discussion?"

"Tell me Perelir, is there any leadership on this Council? How is it that this is how you interact with each other? Do the elves not deserve better?" Kaylayne asks now that she has the attention of many.

Hialin cuts off any answer Perelir might have been considering, ”I am the senior ranking member, after our last meeting.” he announces, and the others look glum, ”And your presence is what the problem is. I am nearing a solution to the drow problem once and for all, if the Council would but see it!” he shouts at them.

”There can be only one solution when they intend to destroy us utterly and that’s to do the same to them before the opportunity arises. You are not elves and cannot begin to understand the magics involved, so leave.”

Perelir finds her voice at last and tries to mitigate Hialin’s words. ”The Council has a place in the world of elves, though you may not see it. There are times when tough decisions must be made.”

She takes a deep breath and continues, “At those times, you have to make a choice between a moral or ethical solution and a practical one. Rulers - like Queen Telandia - must always appear both moral and ethical, or risk being overthrown by their subjects. We have foregone that luxury, and so can make the choices that any elf would agree are right, if not necessarily just.”

Malindeil begins to cry, a little, and Arlindil tries to comfort her. He looks up at Hialin and says, ”Perelir may be right, but what you suggest is… madness.”

Hialin smiles wickedly at the party as he turns on the druid, ”It is our enemies who are mad! We must dip into insanity to face them on their own terms you fool. Everything has its cycles - isn’t that what you always say? It is time to end this cycle and begin a new one for the elves of this world!” he commands, his voice raising an octave in its shrillness.

"The drow are evil, why would there be any argument against their eradication? If one were powerful enough, the same decision could be made against the legions of demons, and not a second thought would be raised. The only concern I would raise is your timeline, Hialin. Allevrah already has proof of concept- she's already Plucked her star, and has advanced her plan a good ways, by our estimation. Can you say the same? We have traveled from Zirnakaynin, with its tunnels and fortresses. What would you do, create a Cloud of Death, and pour it through an aiudara, sealing it off, and exterminating the race? I can't see it, but I don't really grasp your power."

Dimitrio's patience grows thinner as the full-of-himself wizard shock and awes his peers.

"We are not as ignorant as you believe us to be. There are some among us who understand magic and are very knowledgeable. So what is your plan and when will you execute it?"

He waits 'impatiently' for an answer.

The elves nearly drown out Lief and Dimitrio with their arguments against Hialin. He simply smiles and shouts over the din, ”Exactly, there should be NO argument against their eradication. We are not the Queen, we are NOT bound by the same morality!”

”You are all weak and nothing but fools! I alone see what Allevrah was trying to do, and she had the right of it! Earthfall didn’t finish the job, and that may be the greatest failing of history - but it is a failing that can still be corrected!”

Hialin reaches up and pulls the spike free of the wall, with a strength you’d not have imagined he had. As he does so, the last remaining part of him that is good dies, and the fury and wrath inside him, fueled by having spent the last several years poring over forbidden texts and plotting the end of the world, cause him to undergo a shocking transformation - his skin darkens to black and his hair bleaches silver. His eyes film over to cold white orbs. The entire change takes only seconds - where once stood an elf now stands a drow!

The entire fortress shudders, seemingly recoiling from the transformation, and you hear the screeching of the demon hoard intensify. Malindil collapses in a fit of terror and tears, convinced that she will be the next to change. Arlindil roars in fury and makes to attack Hialin, realizing that he has revealed the greatest secret of the elves to outsiders. Only Perelir retains any rationality she looks to the party and begs ”Subdue him, quickly, and restore the Maleficus Spike or we are all doomed!”

Kaylayne may act in the surprise round… Then Ederin, Kaylayne, and Allarnon in round one.

Ederin spends much of the engagement listening and doing little else. Between Lief, Kay and Dimitrio he was sure reason might eventually find its way to the council. Instead, he was preparing for a smug lecture from Lief later in the day.

When the fortress begins to shutter shortly after Hialin removes the spike and transforms, Ed raises an eyebrow toward Kaylayne while drawing his bow. "Maleficus spike?"

Elvers can just turn in to drow? He wonders silently, listening to Malindil weep on the floor.

Staying behind Al, he casts a spell on his bow and shouts toward the closed door to his right and shouts. "The Council needs your help!"

Allarnon crouches low on the table as the tower begins to shudder. "Why does Lief always have to be right!" He shouts over all of the noise."[/b]

Seeing Hialin turn into a drow he roars. "So you were hiding among them all along!"

Allarnon quickly shifts into a bear, leaving his mortal remains and skin in a grotesque slump on the polished elven table. Tarkir follows quickly behind him as they surround Hialin, snipping at the drow's heels.

Ederin pulls his bow and prepares it. Kaylayne hastes the party, and then tries to unnaturally age the drow Hialin - but alas she just misses as the magics coursing around his body deflect the blow (so close). Allarnon changes into a bear, and closes with the wizard while Tarkir takes a bit, but also misses.

Hialin casts defensively, taking a deep breath…

Dimitrio begins to blink in and out of existence as he prepares himself to battle Hialin.

Perelir gasps for air as she turns a rather unpleasant shade of green, before keeling over, dead on the floor. Malindil doesn’t even have time to draw her sword before she disappears in a puff of white smoke.

Arlindil reaches out to Malindil, but as he cannot help her now, he turns his attentions to Hialin. He casts Greater Dispel Magic and tries to thin his magical protections.

Lief sees nothing but green acid hurling his way. He loses track of Hialin for a moment, but it's enough for him to spend time accounting for Perelir's death, and Malindil's disappearance. In the blink of an eye, the council is maimed beyond recognition.

For the shudder throughout the building, Lief decides to wait a moment, as he believes new guests will arrive shortly. While waiting, he consumes a vial, nodding to Dimitrio, thanking him for his cue.

Arlindil shouts, ”There is but one spike - and so long as Hialin has it, we are open to demonic attack!”

As if to punctuate his statement, two Babau demons appear out of thin air and look around, long spears at the ready. They seem to be communicating, though no sound comes out of their mouths as they nod to each other, grinning evilly.

You also hear the sounds of combat outside the door to the chamber.

Both Allarnon and Tarkir vanish into the bright light. It doesn't hurt but rather roils their stomachs as they are left wrenching in their blindness. Getting his wits back to him Allarnon growls as he swings about and strikes air!?

Gasping a familiar scent enters his nose as he looks around at a vast forest that is beginning to look increasingly familiar. It almost reminds him of home though that cannot be.

Ederin launches a barrage of arrows, and it’s the first that is the most deadly though he doesn’t commit (prior to my loss of dex) - he’s facing some sort of DR as well. Kaylayne ages the old elf, and it’s all he can do to hang onto the now incredibly heavy spike. Allarnon and Tarkir, sadly, disappear in a cloud of green smoke.

Hialin laughs has his opponents are scattered to the winds, and unto death. He almost tries to cast another, but sadly, only has one spell so powerful as that. He casts two spells in quick succession, his second so quickly you don’t have time to react, but his first takes concentration and defensive casting.

I can't draw on the map so I'll take whatever you give me. The idea is not to blind him but to make him visible. The DC for blindness is pretty low so Layne should be ok. "Close your eyes, Layne!"

Allarnon looks about franticly "No...no...no this can't be. have I been called back early. They are all going to die!"

His heart pounds in his chest. It feels like it is cracking and ready to burst forth through his ribs. His feet crunch the soft soil and twigs underneath his immense weight as he bounds for the village. Getting his bearings he makes a dead run, leaping over fallen trees and over the hills. It takes him some time but he eventually reaches his home, confirming his fear as his heart sinks as he collapses to the ground. "I failed...."

Just as surprised to see him are his friends as they begin to point from the distance. Small grass huts and copses of trees little the open field as nearly 40 people mill about their daily tasks of tending to the fields, picking berries, conjuring storms and weather where it is needed and taking care of the young, teaching them the cycles of the world.

Picking himself up he slowly makes his way towards the village, his home. Home sweet home.

Allarnon:
You are greeted warmly by all, and are hemmed in by questions about the other world. Every answer seemingly brings another set of questions. It's quite overwhelming.

Eventually, one of the village elders quiets the crowd, observing, "Allarnon has clearly been traveling a long time from us. We should give him peace and some solace of his own now that he's back. He can answer all our questions in time, but now let him rest, for he is much troubled."

Allarnon leaps past and tries to keep up with the Elder as he alters back into his less desirable human shape.

Several kids bound past, some turning into small falcons, badgers and the like while one unusual girl with freckles practices changing into a spotted leopard, though she keeps getting stuck half way through the transformation as it is still too painful.

Allarnon looks to the Elder with pleading eyes. "Have I done wrong? Why was I brought back so early? The Drow....the Drow are real and they are setting on destroying it all." He grabs ahold of the Elder man's hide vest as he kneels to the ground.

Ederin whittles away at the images, scoring one hit, though there is some sort of DR at work and it doesn’t land as solidly as you’d like. Kaylayne moves Dimitrio to safety and drops several small bombs on poor drow-Hialin’s head. Though the resulting explosion heats the room, Hialin seems untouched by the blistering seeds.

Hialin swiftly casts again, and then takes his time pointing at Dimitiro for making him visible. He casts defensively.

As the babau demon falls, two more pop into the room, along with… Viggrizzor (link), the demon in charge of the siege. He looks around the room, at the absences, at the dead elf, and licks his lips. As he forms, he creates a nimbus of unholy light, causing nauseating beams of writhing color to play around his body. There is also a malevolent darkness surrounding him... something unsettling.
