After a night in the inn, you gather at the entrance and proceed towards the Watch House.
Your trip there is rather uneventful, considering the last night's events, but you are still a bit cautious.
As you come near the sturdy doors that presumably lead into the main entry room of the Watch House, you notice a worn roll of parchment stretched tightly and nailed on the door.
Zakmakiv Siraski |
She looks up to read the notes, Zakmakiv forms a slight smile as she reads the airship heading to Xen'drik, This should put a great distance between Q'Barra and me.
Speaking softly, "What about taking an adventure trip to Xen'drik...", pausing briefly, "of course once we find out why the warforge attacked us and who was the dead old man we came across.". Deliberately not mentioning the note they discussed last evening.
Glaive Morningstar |
Glaive looks over the notices, dismissing the pest control opportunity immediately. The other two notes hold his interest longer.
"A missing warforged. Seems our kind figure in a few untoward events. Though a connection seems unlikely, it just might prove so."
The living construct tries his best to smile at the offer of guard duty on a trip to Xen'drik.
"I'd give an arm to go to Xen'drik. Khorvaire is bogged down with internecine factions, House rivalries and all manner of politicking. Sine the Last War things are definitely...awry. At least things have been awry in Xen'drik for a long time." Glaive laughs then, a most unsettling noise that conjures a bovine death cry crossed with the screeching of some sort of washing mangle.
"One way ticket included into pay. Heh. Paid up front? Because you might not make it to return. Or the transport might not make it." He sighs, and after looking quickly to Tarragon, continues.
"We find out anyhting solid to go on with, perhaps we stay. If not, I'm all for boarding the DSO airship. I have no desire to continue to be targeted here. Though there is no saying the crewmember offer is not sent by those that wrote our names on the note we found."
Glaive pauses.
"Bloody Khorvaire."
nightflier |
As you enter the Watch House, you see the guardsmen running around, with stunned expressions. There are obvious signs of burning and explosion, as if a fireball detonated in the middle of the large room that obviously takes up the whole ground floor of the Watch House.
Zakmakiv Siraski |
"Wow! That was a big explosion.", as Zakmakiv looks about. Seeing something glittering nearby, she looks closely at it, avoiding to touch it, then points her hand at it, "Look here. Seems to be a fragment of something that came from the explosion."
Looking back at the origin of the explosion, "Wonder if the warforge self-detonated."
Glaive Morningstar |
Glaive has been unable to discern anything of this mess. He looks closely at the shard Zak indicates.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Knowledge (any): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12 [all untrained]
Does Glaive recognise it as a part of a Warforged, or does he know anything at all about it?

Glaive glances around, searching for the watch officer who made the arrest the previous day, and if he finds him thereby makes sure that it is made clear the party is not a threat. Otherwise Glaive just makes it clear himself, standing by Tomp and righting furniture and papers etc while making as if to help the wounded.

A watchman who first approached you nods and replies: "Yeah, he was in a cell over there", he indicates the most-charred place of the room, "but early this morning some kind of spider-like small construct came scrambling through that door there, going straight to his cell - and it detonated as soon as it reached it."
Glaive Morningstar |
Glaive watches Alastor leave without reaction. He thinks for a moment, then takes a good look at the cell where the warforged was interned.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Satisfied he has seen all there is to see he asks the helpful watchman to direct him to the arresting officer.
Zakmakiv Siraski |
Zakmakiv lets out a curse in draconic, as she looks at the charred remains of the building. Realizing something, perhaps there is a chance, "Did the warforge die in the blast?", asking the guard.
To others, "If there is nothing we can do to help here, or being getting in their way, then we can go to the university to gather more information."
nightflier |
As Alastor turns to go, a man dressed in better-made uniform suddenly approaches the party, pushing his way through the crowd of gathered watchmen. "Stand down, everyone, and back to your work!", he barks.
Then he looks at the visitors and says: "I am captain Izak Stone. You're not going anywhere. We need to talk."
Perception and Sense Motive, please.
Zakmakiv Siraski |
Looks up at the captain trying to speak as diplomatic as possbible, "Captain, we came to question the captured warforge that attacked yesterday, to find out why it attacked a group of strangers that was willing to help the goblin, who was also slain by the warforge, when he showed us the discovered dead body in the alleyway. I believe we all looking for the same answers, for the attack on your premisses, and to why we were attack. Most importantly, who is behind the attacks."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Glaive Morningstar |
Glaive nods with what he hopes strikes the officer as equal parts grave and sage.
"The honorable reptilian speaks truly. We are as much involved as aggrieved here, and seek answers, not only out of curiosity, but for our own safety."

Not with those rolls!
Tarragon merely waits to see how the conversation unfolds unless it looks like she needs to speak or a question is directed at her.

The captain rubs his face as if he is weary beyond words and then simply nods. "Look, somehow all of this is tied to you. I managed to question the prisoner a bit and it seems that you were the intended targets of a trap set by unknown persons. Who ever they are, they wanted you alive and for unknown purposes. The prisoner was simply a mercenary - but I've managed to drag out of that warforged that the person who hired him wore a university ring. That means it was one of the professors. Now, why should some high arcanist be interested in low-lives like you?"
Zakmakiv Siraski |
After hearing "low-lives like you", she simply smiles thinking to herself, Well being an assassin, in most eyes we are naturally considered low-life.
Looking up at the captain, "That is rather interesting. A professor hired the warforge to capture a bunch of strangers. Also have one of the university mages killed to bring us together for capturing.", pausing briefly as she rubs her chin thinking, "I really don't like the sound of this situation we are unknowingly caught in. Yet we still do not know which professor is behind this attack and wanting to capture us. Nor why they want us. Going to great lengths to do so, even killing anyone getting in their way or silencing them as fast as possible."
She shrugs her shoulders, "I guess we have to go to university to find out, though those behind this will surely try to kill or capture us when we go there."
Alastor Solrider |
"Well... There was this murder that the guard failed to prevent..." says Alastor with a bored tone in his voice. "And this culprit who was only caught because we were there, but he was killed in prison less than 24 hours later... Who knows? Maybe the arcanist intends to commit a crime and wants to kill anyone who could stop them..."
