The quarters you get are little more then hide covered yurts, most of which appear to have been recently vacated, and probably were, to make room for you.
It is another cold night, and it turns out you are little warmer then you were using your own tents, the small fire pit in the hut barely able to keep the chill at bay. Still, the beds are more comfortable then the ground you've been used to, and the solidness of the structure lends some comfort, such that you all manage to get, if not a deep uninterrupted sleep, at least a restful one.
The darkness around you seems still fully entrenched when one of the kellid warriors wakes you the next morning... But by the time everyone is up and assembled, you can see the sky lightening on the horizon, the bleak white landscape amplifying even that small amount of light to provide more then adequate illumination to travel.
Three of the Snowmask warriors lope off ahead, while the third falls to the rear, as you travel. Hiryla stays with you, though does not say much, unless prompted by Jones.
You do not appear to be taking the same route you were on the day before, the one marked on Rognvald's map, but instead move up into the rugged terrain at the base of the mountain ranges and seem to be approaching the same location from a more southerly direction.
Most of the morning journey, you are in shadow, the high mountains east of you blocking any direct rays of the sun, keeping the temperature quite cold. The kellids don't seem to notice at all, though the rest of you are feeling the cold before too long.
OK, everyone's endure elements will have worn off by now... and the temperature, out of the sunlight is actually a bit nippy, even with the cold weather gear.
If you don't choose to use magical protections again, I will require two fortitude checks vs the cold! (with all appropriate modifiers for such things as per normal!)
Let me know which method you wish to use!
By the time the sun would normally have cleared the mountains proper and started to shine down into the nooks and valleys your guides have been leading you through, clouds have moved in from the west jamming up against the Tusks and halting there. Soon, a light snow begins to fall and the temperature rises just a little. It is not long thereafter when you see one of the Snowmask's up ahead, signalling.
Hiryla, holds up a hand, and says a few quick words in hallit, then moves up to where the warrior is, motioning for you to follow.
"He signals activity ahead." Chief Hiryla says quickly, as he cautiously hurries forward. "Up ahead, over that rise, is where the outer watch posts of the keep used to stand. Come. Stay low."

The kellid gently shakes Malusha awake and leaves. Malusha wakes and rolls out of the furs that made up his bed. He stretches a few times to revitalize his muscles and then digs through his pack looking for his endure elements wand. "It's freezing in here!" he says to no one in particular. With the wand in hand he casts the spell and immediately feels much better. After just a few more minutes of getting ready he heads out of his yurt to find the rest of his group.
Malusha falls into step easily with the group as they march through the hills seemingly impervious to the cold weather. He is curious when the scout appears. "I wonder if they found that other group," he says to Nella. "But I guess we should follow." He starts to head towards Hiryla when she waves them on.

Tchak gives jones a questioning look. "what's that about?" he asks softly.

Just after they woke up Malusha noticed that Tchak was looking pretty cold. He tapped him with his [i]endure elements[i] wand and smiled. "Should be good for another 24 hours."

Fortitude #2 (cold weather): 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 5 = 17 I suspect that fails the save so he would also ask for an Endure Elements spell.
"Damn this cold..." Masym grunts as he feels the chill once again enter his bones. As the kellid warrior motions for the party to approach Masym takes the lead in front of his fellow Pathfinders, his spear at the ready.

![]() |

Me too! These elements are hard to endure without ENDURE ELEMENTS!

EM±GM |

Malusha and Wei Tchak, will assume you each take a single charge of your own wands!
Masym finds the early morning chill particularly hard to chase from his system. Within the first hour, he is already breathing hard and shivering. (1d6 ⇒ 1 non-lethal cold damage, and you become fatigued)
With a curse, he digs out one of the potions he gathered earlier, and drinks it, which chases away the worst of the cold, but not all. You then start into the up and down trails through the base of the mountain range though, the exertion seems to do the trick of chasing away the last of the chill, and by the time you near the Keep, he is back to normal.
Give Phoebee a potion too! You have 3 left =)

Jones will expend another scroll of Endure Elements.
He'll also tell everyone to keep their heads down as we move up to where the warrior motioned us.

![]() |

Nella rises the next morning when their hosts come to wake them and goes about her normal routine of prayer and meditation. Before they all set out for the Keep, she wards herself from the cold and makes the rounds yet again with her want of Lucky Number. "You never know when it could come in handy and every bit of luck helps, right?"
Lucky Number: 1d20 ⇒ 1 Haha, wow! Potentially the best number of all?
__________
When Jones advises them that they approach potential enemies, she nods and keeps low as she continues to follow Hiryla's lead.
Nella will use one charge of her Endure Elements wand on herself (46 remaining) and use her wand of Lucky Number on everyone again (32 remaining).

EM±GM |

Alright then! Let us off to our final battle!
don't forget to roll for your lucky numbers, as graciously provided by Nella!
As you cautiously approach the top of the ridge, you find yourselves looking down into a long low, snow filled valley. Up ahead, you see the bones of two ancient stone watchtowers rising from the ground like sentries set to guard the entrance to Ranulf’s Keep. The southern tower has mostly collapsed but the northern one is mostly intact. Snow and ice completely cover their bases though, making them inaccessible. Still, they manage to mark the outer edge of the Huscarl's Keep, just visible through the lightly falling snow in the distance. The Keep itself is almost entirely gone. Mounds of rock and ice and snow having buried it long ago. You can only see the outlines of a few walls to indicate where it once stood.
Hiryla says a quick command to the kellid warrior who had singled you, and he hurries off along the southern cliff side with surprising ease. The chief studies the valley for a moment, before saying some words to Jones as he points down the valley towards the keep, then off to either side.
Will assume Jones translates this bit...
From Hallit: "He said there are people at the keep. I sent two men along the northern cliff, and the other two along the southern. It is tough going, but they might be able to get in behind them as we approach. For us, there is no other way forward but up the valley. They will see us coming. For now, we wait, give them time to get in position."
He drops into silence, sitting motionless, his face impassive as he stares down the valley. It seems like forever, though is probably only ten minutes or so, before he speaks again.
"It is time to drive these defilers out of our lands."
With that last, he rises and starts down the slope, making his way to the valley floor below, motioning for you to come down as well.
Before long, you are making your way up the valley itself towards the outer watchtowers.
You are still a ways from them when you too start to notice figures up ahead... and they you. There is a brief commotion before they start down the valley towards way. They reach the watchtowers first, while you are still a hundred or so feet away, before they stop.
Standing in the middle of them, is a dark-skinned kellesh woman, her clothes completely out of place for where you are. Swathes of orange and blue of a desert sky at sunset. More appropriate walking the sandy dunes of Qadira then the glacial wastes of the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. Melkorka Skur, at last!
Behind her, a number of fur-clad men range out, staying close to the towers on either side, while a few more can be seen exiting the ruins of the Keep off in the distance and hurrying your way to join them.
The woman laughs, and shouts across the intervening distance.
"It would seem the local primitives have found some assistance." She sneers. "And who might you lot be?" She frowns for a moment before continuing. "Let me guess... Pathfinders?"
She says the last with utter contempt. "I do not know how you found out about this place, but you are too late!" She lifts her arm, and you see she is holding a massive greataxe. As she holds it aloft, it bursts into flames that run up and down its length. The air around her shimmers from the heat, and the gently falling snow suddenly starts to evaporate before ever reaching her person.
"I've painted this frigid hell red with blood to get here, I am happy to do so on the way out as well!"
"Come, let Jedrek's Shard warm you against the cold!"
And with that last, she calls to the nearby Shadow Lodge agents to attack as she strides defiantly forward.

As Phoebee starts up an inspiring tune, with a bit of an edge, Masym starts directing the action, calling out weaknesses and strategies to better combat the Shadow Lodge agents. Meanwhile, Malusha prays for additional protection on Masym, and Nella produces her wand and blesses everyone.
Melkorka only laughs in reply to Masym and Nella's words. "If there were any justice, you Pathfinders would have been wiped out long ago!"
"That one, the garundi priest. Take him out!" She calls back to the men behind her, as she points towards Malusha. "Ki tashi buji touje toupou!" She shouts in another language, as all four of her agents turn their bows on the priest, and a rain of arrows hails down.

Malkorka utters a quick prayer of her own, and laughs maliciously as Malusha falls. "We shall see how long you last when your very gods abandon you!" She seems content to wait for you to come to her.
Hiryla says something in Hallit, then shouts a challenge as he hurries forward across the intervening space.
Unfortunately, the distance is too far for him to make it before they will be able to use their weapons once more.

Jones fires a quick arrow at Melkorka, striking her soundly, though he notices his arrow started to trail off unexpectedly as it got near... though not enough to miss this time.
Jones, you will have a 20% miss chance on all arrows you fire at Melkorka. I'll let you roll it going forward.
Wei Tchak advances, casting a protective shield spell on himself as he goes.
Far to the rear, towards the keep, a half a dozen shadow lodge agents hurry towards the fight, but suddenly, previously hidden figures burst up from beneath mounds of nearby snow, and jump down from the side of the cliff walls. The snowmask warriors leap into the battle to cut them off with silent efficiency. Two of the shadow lodge agents are down before the others can even react at all. A small skirmish breaks out back there, four kellids versus the four remaining agents.
Masym then moves up, passing Wei Tchak, and gets within ten feet of the Shadow Lodge leader, ready to engage.
Seeing Malusha down, but not in immediate danger of bleeding out, Nella steps forward and summons a weapon of her goddess' divine glory to harry the archers in the back, hoping to keep them from continuing their barrage. At the same time, Phoebee pulls out a scroll, reading it to affect those nearby with a slight boost to their morale.

Seeing Nella cast her spell, Melkorka starts yelling at her minions again, waving towards the priestess.
"Ignore it, you can do nothing. Shoot her! Her! The woman in the back who cast it!" She yells. "Now!"
Two of them immediately do as their told. The first hesitates for a moment, but under Melkorka's haranguing fires despite the faint urge not to. (Nella, 1 use of adoration used. (he made his save!)) The rest scramble to get away from the spiritual weapon before sending arrows towards the priestess as well. Just like with Malusha only moments before, the missiles rain down on Nella with surprising accuracy and she finds herself unable to dodge any of them! (28 damage to Nella)
My archer mooks are on fire! (figuratively!)
Seeing her peppered with arrows, Melkorka can only smile wickedly. "Soon you will have no one left to help you." She almost purrs, at Masym. "Now you can see what the Shard can do!"
Suddenly, she whirls the weapon around, and launches it through the air towards Wei Tchak like some sort of giant flaming ballista bolt. The weapon seems to arc and curve around Masym, flying towards the tengu with deadly accuracy. The air around it hisses as it melts the falling snow in its path and strikes him solidly, the flames burning where the axe touches. (11 damage to Wei Tchak, plus 1 fire damage)
As quickly as it strikes, the weapon seems to whirl and soar back to the woman who threw it, until it rests once more in her hand, held in front of her defensively. Her eyes never left Masym the entire time.
You see her grinning with joy from behind the axe's flames.
Hiryla's face looks grim, as a second wave of arrows is loosed. He charges the nearest pair of archers, passing the first one to attack the one behind. It is all the shadow lodge agent can do to keep from getting cut in two, the axe scoring a wicked wound across his chest.

Hiryla's men have already put in an appearance!
Still being pressured by Nella's spiritual weapon, the Shadow Lodge agent doesn't notice Jones firing at him until it's too late. The first arrow strikes him in the shoulder, spinning him around as he loses his grip on his bow. The second arrow catches him in the neck, and he collapses to the ground.
Wei Tchak uses a wand, cursing the kelesh woman as their evil influences start to wash through his body and every so slowly start to knit his wounds back together through their infernal contract.
Towards the keep, the kellid warriors continue to battle the shadow lodge reinforcements. Though the shadow lodge agents seem to be over their initial surprise and are mounting a counterattack, the Snowmasks still manage to fell another, turning the odds in their favor!
Masym steps forward, and thrusts his spear at Melkorka, managing to get past her defensive stance and piercing her thigh with his weapon.
Phoebee hurry's forward to help, while Nella, bleeding from multiple wounds and unsure if another volley is incoming, casts a healing spell on herself as she mentally commands the ghostly glaive to go after the agent Hiryla injured. The man looks on in shock as the spiritual weapon flashes towards him, thrusting through his chest, past the shield he only just donned. He collapses to the ground at the kellid man's feet.

"Keep shooting her!" Melkorka yells back at them. "She's healing herself! Shoot her quickly!"
But the remaining men ignore her commands, having thrown down their bows and taken up shields and swords to defend themselves against Hiryla. But even though they have him surrounded, the Chieftain of the Snowmask clan is far too experienced a warrior and he avoids all of their attacks, managing to slash one of them deeply in return.
The kelesh woman curses and turns her attention back to Masym, as he asks her his question.
"Show off?" Again she smiles, though there is little humor in the gesture. "You know how it is, new toy and all. Here, let me show you."
With that, she slashes out with the axe for the first time, swinging it on an upward arc from down near her feat. Even Masym's armor and divine protections can not deflect the unorthodox blow in time, as the pain of the blade and burning flesh washes over him. (13 damage to Masym, plus 6 fire)
She then steps back to admire her handiwork with glee.

Now would be a GREAT time for a Grease spell here (*hint hint* Phoebee). If that does not work then Masym will try to Disarm her as a last resort...since he would provoke an AoO and she gets a hefty bonus to the CMB check :(

casting grease on the weapon

EM±GM |

I'm not going to have the grease spell resolve until after Wei Tchak goes... but since Masym is waiting to see what happens ... we shall at least let him know...
Reflex vs DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 (Alas, she will hang onto it!)
Though, for the record, stabbing someone in the face can also work to disarm them =)

Tchak moves forward, and casts his own grease spell on her weapon... hoping she drops it this time.

With yet another archer down, Nella takes the briefest of moments to redirect her spiritual weapon to the one that Hiryla had just sliced into...
Spiritual Weapon vs. Green (Glaive; Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 3 + 1 = 21
Damage (Force): 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
...while she finally makes good on her mental promise and quickly kneels down next to Malusha, offering up yet another spell in exchange for a spell of healing.
Cure Light Wounds (Malusha): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
"Hey, are you okay? Don't worry, there's still plenty left for you," she says with a worried smile.
___________
Nella uses another move action to redirect her spiritual weapon to the Green archer and then uses her Weapons Against Evil spell to spontaneously cast Cure Light Wounds on Malusha.

Hummm...there does not seem to be a ruling on whether you can cast consecutive Grease spells on a held item. Going by RAW the answer appears to be 'NO'. Still, if I was the DM I would consider invoking a -2 penalty on the Reflex save to hang on to it. So, that being said, I will post as if Skur made her Reflex save here...
Masym curses as the woman manages to hang on to the greased axe. She cannot hold onto it for long!, he hopes. Deciding to try buying some time here, he slips into a defensive stance and continues to harry the kellid woman.
Round 4:
5' step.
Attack Skur, Fight Defensively.
Shortspear, Bless, Inspire, Study, defense: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 10
.
Status: Studied Target => Skur; Shield of Faith, fighting defensively (AC 23)

if that's not a valid target for a grease spell, I should know that in character with my decent know arcana and spellcraft bonuses and would change my action

One of us could cast the spell at her feet though

If you make the initial save, there's no grease at all. Its not a continual thing at that point (common misconception though!)
Jones moves up while firing another arrow, but just as it is about to strike, it seems to lose all forward momentum and ends up hitting her like he'd thrown it by hand. It falls harmlessly to the icy ground.
Wei Tchak also moves a little closer, casting a spell to try to make her lose her grip on her weapon, but the grease seems to burn away beneath the axes flames to no effect!
The kellids continue their fight towards the keep, though one of them is forced to fall back wounded, evening the odds once again.
2d20 ⇒ (10, 19) = 29
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19, 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17, 1d6 ⇒ 5
1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 2 = 23, 1d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 4 = 14
Nella redirects her spiritual weapon at another of the agents fighting with Hiryla, and it adds another slash to the one the chieftain had given him already. She then kneels down and sends healing energies into Malusha. The young garundi man's eyes flutter open, looking up at the snow gently falling from the afternoon sky.
Malusha is back in the fight! Though laying on his back. (crossbow on the ground beside him)
Masym, noticing some oddities in Melkorka's style, shouts out a warning to the others. The Shadow Lodge leader merely laughs.
"My will is my own, fool." She growls. "That a Pathfinder pawn would use such words is laughable. It is The Decemvirate that controls your lives like sheep to the slaughterhouse."
Masym steps up to her again, thrusting his spear once more, but he sacrifices some of his accuracy for a more defensive posture, and she is just able to knock the blow aside.
Phoebee then attempts the same trick as Wei Tchak, as the words to her slippery song ring out through the valley. But once again, the magically created substance seems to burn off in the fires of the axe.
"Is it the Shard you want, little girl?" Melkorka sneers. "I can happily oblige you!"
She takes another step back, and doesn't even bother pretending to throw it this time, merely opening her hands, and blowing on it, like it were dust. The axe shoots out of her palm like a missile once more. Masym can feel the heat from the flames as it whirls past his ear, straight at Phoebee! It does not appear to be tracking her quite like the previous time, but it still is accurate enough that the bard can not dodge in time, and she gets cut down where she stands! (17 damage to Phoebee, plus 5 fire)
The remaining two shadow lodge agents by the watch towers, continue trying to attack Hiryla... but they seems more concerned with trying to defend himself from the Snowmask's furious assault. Again, neither of them is able to land a blow on the chieftain before another one of them gets cut down.
-- Round 4 -----------------------
Jones, Wei Tchak (-10) <---- We are here!
kellids x 3, shadow lodge agents x 3
-- Round 5 -----------------------
Masym (-19), Malusha (-8, prone), Phoebee (-22, dying, prone), Nella (-17)
Melkorka Skur (-16), blue agent, Hiryla
Group Buffs: Bless (+1 to hit), Moment of Greatness (all but Masym)
Party is up!
The spiritual weapon target has dropped again.
Inspire Courage will drop with Phoebee... and Masym's precise strike bonus will also fade
Phoebee will need a stabilization roll

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
I think she is dead

With a clear line of sight, Jones looses two arrows in succession at Melkorka.
Comp Longbow 1: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 - 2 = 17
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 30
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Comp Longbow 1: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 - 2 = 17
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 5
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Tchak sighs, pops a wand out of his wrist sheathes and taps Phoebee with the infernal healing, then taking another step closer to Melkorka as he puts the wand away.
heal another point, 8 rounds of healing left

EM±GM |

Jones fires two more arrows in quick succession, the second following the exact same flight path as the first. The lead arrow deflects off of the woman's armor, the following one's momentum dying before it even reaches her.
Wei Tchak draws his wand once more, applying the magic to Phoebee. Her wounds stop bleeding, but she suddenly starts thrashing around and moaning, as uncomfortable images invade her unconscious mind.
OK, she will stabalize from the spell before her turn comes up, so will be sitting at -6 below 0, but stable and healing slowly!
The Shadow Lodge agents finally seem to be making some headway versus their kellid attackers, pressing the attack hard!
