Hello all!

DMS, I absolutely loved your introductory email. I wish I thought of that for my own table. You can be sure I'll be stealing the idea for future games. :)

I'll be playing Sigrun, although I may have to revert her character sheet depending on the progress of another game. She'll be levelling up to 2 as soon as I finish GMing another game, and they are in the final encounter, so I expect it to be soon... hopefully in time. If not, well, no big deal.

Looking forward to the game, all!

(Totes didn't just post this in the Gameplay thread by accident. Oops.)

Thanks! I figure that we lose some of the action and speed by not being at the table, but can make up for it with adjectives and immersion.

One favor I'd ask is to just reply to my email with your character so I know who is which PC for when it's time to send the chronicle.

Hey ladies and gents, quick question(s):

1. Has everyone played a season 5 game yet? Are you aware of the fact that faction missions are neither overtly given nor are all factions represented in every scenario?

2. Is it okay to assume that the faction displayed next to your character's image is your accurate faction?

2. Yes.

2) Yes, that's the correct faction.

Welcome to PFS, Kageko! Hope you enjoy playing, maybe stick around for some more games. The PFS PBP section here needs more fresh blood; this is one of the first games in a LONG time where I've not known at least one of the players. ;)

MAP TEMPLATES | Social Combat | War for the Crown | Campaign Tracker |

Welcome aboard! I know 2 of these players (Fel has been at my table since "Danger at Dunwater" was new.)

If you have any questions, don't be shy. Are you new to Pathfinder in general, or just PFS?

I'm aware of the rules changes although I haven't seen how it actually plays out personally yet. And yes, Marika is an Andoran agent.

On another note, her statement in my latest post is a bit of Absalom slang that I'm going to presuppose most of our characters would be familiar with. Basically, due to a loophole in Absalom law, it's illegal to imprison anyone who isn't guilty of a crime, with the exception of "those who move about within their tombs" (or essentially undead.) In order to account for people who are obviously violently insane but haven't (yet) committed any crimes deserving of a life sentence, someone got the bright idea of declaring these people legally "undead" and going through the motions of putting them up in an elaborate cemetery, complete with daily "offerings" of food and routine consultations with priests. Hence, the "Tomb of the Living" is Absalom's insane asylum.

New to PFS, not to Pathfinder. I've played in a couple of PbP campaigns although so far I've had terrible luck getting into games that actually lasted the course. Hoping to break that cycle with this one. :)

I realise that my faction goal for this season is basically "look for opportunities to set up trade agreements", but I'm really not sure what more I should be doing apart from what I've done now... the season 5 secondary prestige points are really annoyingly vague!

EDIT: Turns out I was mixing up secondary prestige and faction goals. Still confusing and vague. ;)

Yeah, they are vague. I think there has to be a certain amount of trust amongst everyone (especially the DM and the players.) When I say that I'm reasonable, quality role-playing will get you places... even if those places are clues ;-)

Marika will undoubtedly continue to "enjoy" Chusynd, then. He's pretty much unflappable no matter what you call him...kinda lost in his own little world. He still thinks Cheliax will return to Aroden's fold. LOL

His IC actions so far have indicated to Kageko that whoever thought sending Chusynd on a mission requiring tact and subtlety must have been drunk when they did it -- either that or Cheliax wants this expedition to fail, for whatever reason. MAP TEMPLATES | Social Combat | War for the Crown | Campaign Tracker |

Hey everyone,

Pathfinder is supposed to be fun. We all have too much in the real world to make this game a source of stress. More than one player has PMed me about this game, and we've barely started. We're all adults here (actually I'm not sure if that's true, but you know what I mean.) So rather than beat around the bush, let's step back from the table and chat.

Kageko and Marika: PvP is flat about forbidden on page 19 of the Guide to Organized play. (Only one of you specifically called that out as something they'd do.) If this game isn't your type of game, I can respect that. I also don't want to punish anyone for playing their style. The discussion with Chusynd is too intense.

Since so far the only dice rolls have been Knowledge checks, I'll let you guys walk now without issuing a zero credit game. If we get into the game and PvP breaks out I'll politely remove players. In 20 years of DMing I've NEVER lost a table, and I don't plan on it now.

I think Kageko and Marika are looking for a more intense game. I recommend banding together and seeking out similar player types on the forums. I think Fel, Chusynd, Sigrun, and Khamul will have a good time.

We're all here to play a fun game. What do you guys want to do?

Obviously, if people are PMing the DM, you're feeling like this game has certain problems for one reason or another, so I don't want to seem like I'm minimising your feelings here. But nevertheless, here's my perspective as someone who is relatively unaffected by this all...

I didn't interpret any of Marika or Kageko's comments in a negative way; I think it's perfectly fine for characters to annoy others and for them to react to it, maybe even wishing they could hurt them (but, of course, realising the rules they sign up to when they join the Society). Sigrun, for example, spent much of the last scenario she was in annoying one of the characters by insisting on calling his dodo familiar a chicken. Both the player and I had a lot of fun with it!

On the other hand, I do feel that Chusynd's persona is perhaps getting a bit out of hand, both by Chusynd him/herself and the reactions from the others. I understand Chusynd's character is whimsical and ridiculous (and possibly a little insane), but we are on a stealth mission here. A couple of ridiculous suggestions are one thing, but I think you've been dislodging the planning phase a little too much. (Nobody will be happy if we lose a prestige point or something because you preferred to stay heavily in character, after all.)

Additionally, though, I think the best way to move on from characters like that is to do what Sigrun did; decide he's a few bolts short of a toolbox and instead get on with business. Of course, that's also part of her character (practically oriented and easily bored of minutiae and nonsense), but the others could also do something similar. "No, Chusynd. Just... No. Anyway, back to the adults' conversation..."

It's a collective game here, and we need to work together to make it go! I hope everyone can get along and enjoy the game. I'm enjoying it so far, personally, and I'd hate to see things crash and burn. :(

I just want to say that I was actively looking for a few games that aren't intense. I've been having some problems with a few of those of late. The reason I asked to walk was because I looked back at my post and realized that thanks to the way the IC interactions were going it was getting out of hand and going places I don't want to go when I'm in PFS.

I think if we can all agree to keep it civil and a little more on-task we can probably at least get through to the end of this. I've been around the block enough times to stick to the no-PVP rule.

I sincerely apologize if what my character said was frustrating and/or disruptive; that was never my intent. Nor was I trying to dislodge the planning phase, as that's a key part of the adventure.

(Full disclosure: I've run this scenario several times already and have tried to take care not to interfere with critical, faction-specific interactions. DM S is already aware of this and I have no interest in ruining the story for y'all or wrecking anyone else's fun.)

Friends - this week is gonna be crazy for me at work. I doubt I'll be able to post more than once first thing in the AM and then late at night.

If we enter combat, I'll issue a standing order for Fel to withdraw (if he's threatened) and begin chanting (Inspire Courage: +1 attack/+1 damage). Anyone can autopilot him with that action - but NO SINGING!! :)

Also - In the past, groups I've been in have agreed that friendlies ahead of Fel in initiative will delay until after him in order to gain the competence bonuses. As long as no one allows a baddie to jump them in initiative I recommend we do that as well.

Fair warning he is really quite useless in combat aside from bard buffs.

The reason Kageko was intentionally keeping close to Marika's left side is because her katana is worn at the left hip. Do I need to take an extra action or roll something to draw it from there in an offhand grip?

Next questions would be:
1) Fel mentioned that he starts singing and gets out of the way; does that leave a clear path for Kageko to take on the Dockmaster?
2) Does he count as flanked?
2b) And if not, is a five-foot step enough to get within striking range so Kageko can use her Move Action on an Improved Feint?

Sorry to be so finicky; I'll try to have a clearer image in my head from here on in

No worries. I've added a link to the map in the campaign description

1. It's clear aside from needing to jump from ship to dock. With a running start you're looking at a DC 10 acrobatics check to not go for a swim.

2. I think you might have the dockmaster pog mixed up. He's on the dock to the SW of the ship.
