@ Luthia ... I assume the thinking is that if you bash a guy in full plate, the armor might still turn the blade? Nevertheless, Coup De Grace means you auto-crit on a hit, and Unconscious means you get advantage on the attack. Maybe something to mention in the playtest survey?

@ Olden ... You have advantage, because they are/were asleep. I'll try to clarify these things as we go along. Most of them I'm learning myself, because even though I read the packet when it came out, who remembers CDG rules until you actually use them? Not me, anyway.

@ Olden, part 2 ... Don't forget you get to add your dex bonus to damage with finesse and ranged weapons, but not your proficiency bonus.

Before he can even get his feet under, the giant Malaki was attacking collapses under the relentless barrage of attacks.

The second giant slowly clambers to his feet despite several grievous injuries, looking confused and reaching for a club somewhat taller than any of you. With an angry snarl, he swings.

Malaki is up. When there is only one group of monsters, I tend to favor a loose initiative. Once the enemies have had their turn, you guys go whenever you have time to post, until you've all taken a turn. I'll try to be clearer about it in future, but in this case it is largely irrelevant, because....

Staggered by Oskar and Olden's blows, the giant finally falls under Luthia's fists. Though the ground seems to shake as he falls, the sound is more than drowned out by the noise of revelry coming from the north.

Malaki quickly leans over and slits both creatures throats from ear to ear, ensuring they are indeed dead and not merely unconscious. He then rifles through their positions for anything of use or that will provide clues as to what is happening. Finally, when his curiosity has been sated, he will slink over to the northern door and attempt to listen to what is going on.

"Someone tall search through the capes and bags! I'm off to check if the fire caught out back and see if Elwë is coming."

Luthia runs up the giant stairs, taking them one at a time where she would normally take two. As she ascends she unclips her two wicked orcish hand axes. Nearing the top she throws her elvish cloak around herself.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

If there are no foes up there Luthia will scan the horizon, the palisade if visible and the approach road, keeping an ear out for commotion from below.

Luthia rushes up the stairs and ... finds yet another sleeping giant, this one with a mug of mead almost big enough to be a gnome's bathtub beside him. The roof of the rear building is smoldering slowly, as yet unnoticed. Elwe is nowhere to be seen.

Malaki finds a variety of worthless trinkets and savage trophies in the pockets of the giants. Listening at the door, he hears a drunken voice giving a rambling toast to our mighty host Nosnra, in giantish of course, extolling his virtues (primarily depravity, savagery, and appetite) while other voices bellow agreement. It's hard to tell for sure, but it sounds as though there are at least a dozen giants beyond the double doors, possibly two, or even three times that many.

There are at least a dozen, if not three times that number in the room beyond, including our target. With no other exits to the room that I could see from the outside, we must engage them swiftly, and attempt to bottleneck them in the door way. Do we have anything we can throw into the room to burn, to cause smoke and divide our foes? What magics can we summon to our aid?

Pulling out a wide brimmed black silk hat, Malaki pops it on his head and summons its magic, making himself appear as a small Hill Giant in the hopes of distracting his foes long enough for a kill shot.

So can Luthia CDG him - spear through the eye socket? If not she'll return down the stairs for aid.

Luthia considers the drunk, slumbering giant. Seeing as genocide seems to be the order of the day she contemplates the murder she must surely enact.

Indubitably Never 3d6

@ Luthia: CDG in this is simply an auto crit if you hit on an attack roll: max weapon damage + one die. With a spear used 2 handed, it would be 8+d8+relevant modifiers (strength, anything you get from class, buffs, etc). You will get advantage on the attack because he's asleep. Underwhelming, I realize, but I'm being more strictly RAW than I would be normally, so we can see how the playtest works. I would say that with a spear in his eye, he'd be effectively blinded for at least a couple of rounds. Say 2d6. If anyone HASN'T gotten a spear in the eye, I assure you, it makes you tear up something fierce.

Rooting through the giants' bags turns up...
1d100 ⇒ 28 A shabby wool cloak, giant sized
1d100 ⇒ 66 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 30 silver pieces
1d100 ⇒ 79 1d12 ⇒ 4 40' of very strong rope
1d100 ⇒ 26 nothing
1d100 ⇒ 5 1d4 ⇒ 2 2 small boulders

Further observation on critical hits: A great axe (d12) crits harder than a great sword (2d6) because the sword only adds a d6 and the axe adds a d12. Qorin should have taken the axe instead of the maul. Feh.

Indubitably Never 3d6

Ready! But first ... what door are you looking to? There are three. The big door in the middle with the noise of many, many giants behind it, and two smaller (but still giant-sized) doors to either side.

Ah. Good point.

Perhaps we might gain some advantage by creating another diversion using wither of the smaller doors. The sound of "many, many" giants has me somewhat scared. Which is why I wanted Elwë here.
We could toss in some flaming oil/ranged attacks/spells from a side door and come in the opposite side door.
Of course this is all contingent on these side doors actually leading directly to the large room - they may not...

Whoops I'd forgotten about the other doors.

Oskar looks left and right. " I wonder if those doors lead into the same room? "

He heads over to the left door and presses an ear to it.
