Theodemar Balestra
Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Once again, Theodemar has a good showing. Not the best ever seen, but he does show a better-than-average aptitude.
Ayodhan
Archery -4: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Speed -2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Knowledge -2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Healing -2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Ayodhan has a bit more difficulty in the second round, though that's probably in no small part due to the intentional increase in difficulty. He's still frustrated with his showing in speed, though he's starting to come to terms with it as it's not just a straight distance over time sort of thing. Healing still seems to be a knack for him, and the specific differences of trees is, once again, not something he's paid close attention to. He's never been the sort to notice the trees for the forest.
Raina Glynra
Nature with lore use 2/3: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 + 2 = 27
Raina thinks for a moment. She searches the recess of her memory and her mogher's teachings about nature. Her lineage pops in at the lady second in her mind to be able to provide a bit of insight.
Deciduous, is the dropping of a part that is no longer needed, in this case leaves. A coniferous is the bearing of pinecones, most coniferous are evergreen. There are many more difference, but that is just one sir
GM-Gathrix
•Archery The first ranger secures two points for winning the second round, but after speaking with Auramesties in a whisper, he bows out and a point is given to Vesyrn and Ayodhan tying it up in a 3 way. The judge announces whoever wins the next round takes all. The next test is the most difficult, requiring you to draw and fire your bow in one smooth action without any aiming at a moving target on horseback. Roll Ranged Attack -6
Vesyrn 10
Ayodhan 12
Female Fighter 8
•Tracking Drahzar secures the win for the second round, and gains the point from the old woman giving him 3 points. Roll Knowledge Nature, or Survival
Vesyrn 15
Drahzar 19

•Strength One of the fighters barley throws it past Vesyrn gaining 2 points. The last fighter drops out leaving only Vesyrn and one other competitor. Vesyrn 21
Fighter 22
•Speed The tall female elf seems to be out of steam this round, granting Vesyrn 2 points for the round. Still 3 points to get in the next round the judge reminds everyone. This round is a track through some difficult overgrowth. Roll Dex -4
The tall female elf 4
Vesyrn 13
Ayodhan 9

Elrinides 17
•Knowledge Raina’s ancestor’s assist her in her knowledge of nature, though Drahzar has an impressive showing as well. Roll Knowledge Planes
Ancient Lorekeeper 25
Drahzar 19

Vesyrn 23
•Arcane The old witch grants her point to a young wizard that impressively knew the spell as soon as the first word was said. He now has 3 points, but you have a chance to tie it up. Roll a Spellcraft Check 3 times each will have an increased DC to succeed The best numbers will win if all succeed
Elrinies 15
Theodemar 21
•Healing Ayodhan again shows remarkable skill in healing. The old woman bows out to his superior knowledge. You will be given recognition at the end of the ceremony.
Ayodhan 20
The Judges Announce that the winners for Martial Skill, Athletics, and Healing have been decided, but there are still more events to watch.
Vesryn Tarathiel
Steady. Breath, slowly and evenly. Don't move. Don't make noise. They'll move first. They'll seek you out. Be ready to act.
Vesryn's world was darkness. It took him several moments to shut out the din of the spectators, but soon, there was nothing but his heartbeat and the breathing of his competitors. The practice weapons were light as a feather in has hands. He stood defensively, poised on the balls of his feet, and waited.
A boot came down on a leaf to his right. Moving on instinct, Vesryn swept low, underneath any shield, clipping his unseen opponent's leg and dropping him. A swift rap with his practice sword produced a defeated groan.
After that, Vesryn fell into a rhythm. He didn't know how long he was in it, but after a while, he realized the crowd was cheering. He removed his blindfold and grinned.
That had given them a show, all right!

Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Ouch. Pretty sure that is going to cost Theodemar the win. Well, it happens!
Ayodhan
Archery -6: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1
Speed -4: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Ayodhan accepts his win in the healing competition with the grace and dignity one would expect for a priest on the outside. Inside he's quite excited. The thrill of the contest has awoken in him.
GM-Gathrix
Going to finish this up to get us all on the same page. Hope you all enjoyed that a bit, but it was a lot of rolling for sure.
Archery: 1d20 ⇒ 8 The young ranger takes away the Archery win from Vesyrn and Ayodhan, who both did very well though.
Tracking: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Drahzar secures the win in the Tracking contest
Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 Vesyrn loses the strength contest, but it was close.
Speed: 1d20 ⇒ 2Ayodhan has the travel domain so I think that makes you even as far as speed ability Vesyrn
Ayodhan impresses the judges with his speed giving him 3 points and securing the win for Ayodhan.
Raina wins the Knowledge rounds.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Theodemar has a flash of insight that inspires him and pushes him over the edge of Elinides impressive display. Theodemar sees the woman that brought him to the church of Findeladlara smiling at him. Theodemar has won the arcane. Theodemar is now tied for the win. You are now told to have a simple duel, first blood wins. The young wizard shakes and barley gets his ranged touch attack off, but it misses Theodemar by a mile and Theodemar easily hits the young wizard with an acid splash. A cleric tends to him as Theodemar celebrates his victory.

As you come up when your name is called he gives you each an item and a piece of parchment.
The parchment reads Congratulations on your win. I am sure you understand what this means. We area in need of your assistance in securing a land for our people outside of Sovyrian. This is not to be an easy task so I want you to sleep on it for a day. Come see me at the base of the north east spire and present this parchment with my seal on it and you will be allowed to enter my chambers. Sincerely, The Winter Council
After you are all given your items you hear the Sovyrians rejoicing. You know that the starstone must have impacted, but see no sign of it in the stars yourself. Auramesties addresses the crowd for one last time.
"In this most somber time, let us remember where we came from. The events of today can not erase our memories of our homeland, its gentle breeze, bright green trees, or bird songs in the morning sun. No, our memories remain with us just as we remain. We shall prevail in this new land. Enjoy the feast and rest well." He bows his head and gives a blessing from Desna and whispers a prayer asking for guidance on this new world.
Elrinides SilverSnow
Elrinides gives Theodemar A hearty congratulations for his performance during the Arcane competitions.
Well done, I especially liked the flourish on the Splash at the end. Perhaps we should compare notes. We may have something's to teach each other. Have you visited the Temple of Yuelral. The kind priests there were very helpful in helping me develop my skills with the Arcane Arts.
maybe we should compare spell books and share spells.
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn says nothing, but nods gratefully at Auramesties. He handles his new blade, appreciating the fine craftsmanship.
Vesryn couldn't help but notice that ones who won the contest had been present for the secret meeting. He made sure to, during the feast, gather them together. Vesryn toasted their triumphs with a flagon of ale.
"To our victories, my friends!"
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
After looking around to ensure no one was eavesdropping, Vesryn spoke in a hushed voice.
"Have any of you learned or done anything that could impact our...let's call it our labor?"
Drahzar
Drahzar nods in appreciation of the recognition of his tracking skill and is honoured to receive such a gift.
When the winner of martial contest started speaking Drahzar waited for him to finish. "I have encountered both a native elf and others who have spoken of something they call The Blight, the elf had been told that we could be carriers of it, the other mentioned it in passing but could provide no information about it when I inquired. At this point I believe it requires further research."
Theodemar Balestra
Theodemar smiles at the praise he receives from Elrindes.
"Indeed, a couple of wizards like us out to be able to put our heads together to accomplish anything! I haven't visite the temple, though, no. That may be worth looking into...Can you show me where it is?"
Sure thing!
Elrinides SilverSnow
I was told by one of the priestesses that some time ago there was a terrible disease that ravaged the elves of Solvyrian and that the strict rules that are in place are less to enforce a class system and more meant as a means to safeguard from future outbreaks. I wonder how hard it had to have been for our ancestors cousins to give up their freedoms as they have. I must admit I have my doubts about our labors. If even one rogue "dog" got loose in the city and found a child before it could be put down... I would have a hard time forgiving myself.
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn grimace.
" apologies my friend. Apparently my time spent outside the city these last few weeks has caused me to forget my manners. I don't think we have actually exchanged names. I am Vesryn Tarathiel, soldier of Kyonin."
Ayodhan
Ayodhan is astounded by the prize for the healing contest, and plans to keep it with him at all times. The prize for the speed contest will go into his spellbook when he gets a chance, and from there will be a great reminder for a long time. He'll think about the note, but he won't have to think long. He's already willing to help his people however he can, whether that be with Hon-Zon, the Winter Council or both.
"And quite fleet of foot you are, Vesryn," Ayodhan says chiming in to the open-ended conversation in the same hushed tones to make eavesdropping difficult. "It was a close contest and you comported yourself well. I'm pleased you won some of the others you entered. I'm Ayodhan, and to answer your question, I've helped some mutual friends with a bit of freedom of movement. I gather by the confusion on stage that you're one of the outcasts who managed to find your way in? That ability could prove quite useful in the future."
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn nodded.
"Keen observation, friend. And congratulations to you as well, Ayodhan. It's comforting to know that we all possess some valuable skills. As for your query, you're not wrong. That way could indeed be quite valuable to us."
Drahzar

If even one rogue "dog" got loose in the city and found a child before it could be put down... I would have a hard time forgiving myself.
"why are they so reluctant to communicate with us their reasons. Simply treating us as they did led many including myself to assume the worst. And even if this Blight is a terrible threat could the leadership have magnified the threat to justify the measures they have taken?"

yikes! Not off to a good start, there
Just as Ayodhan realizes the foul play involved he grunts as he feels the sudden pain of the arrow piercing his flesh. Caught thoroughly off guard, he grabs for his holy symbol. With any luck he'll have time to channel energy to treat the wound and restore the fallen guard to consciousness as an ally against their, presumably common, attacker. He'll then draw his bow to prepare to defend himself.

Round 2, Initiative Count 6
Feeling the warmth of Desna's love closing his wounds and his attacker scampering off gives Ayodhan a moment to relax. And then he hears a scream that sounds like his new friend Theodemar. This probably isn't a coincidence and, restored to full strength by the divine energy, he rushes to his friend's aid while using divine energy to enchant his bow to make it more effective. He doesn't wait to see if the guard has regained consciousness, but takes comfort knowing that the energy should have at least stabilized him enough to be checked on later, once all is safe.
cast magic weapon on the drawn longbow and move toward the sound of Theodemar
- Magic Weapon: +1 enhancement bonus to longbow attack/damage 9/10 rounds remaining
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn rushes over to Nim Sol'Thane, moving as quickly as possible. He remains mindful of the possibility of archers, and sticks to cover if possible.
I'm trying to get where I can get to him next turn, but have cover from a building if possible.
Theodemar Balestra
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Theo is at 0 HP, and the assassin beat his initiative, so things are not looking good!
On his turn, Theodemar moves around the spire, trying to evade his attacker.
Move action to try and get out of Line of Sight, and no standard, so he doesn't drop into negative hit points.

Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn curses, cradling the man in his arms. He takes a moment to leave him propped against the wall.
We got items for winning. Vesryn is a pragmatist. If Nim was gifted some Strength enhancing item, Vesryn will take it if it's obvious on his person, though Vesryn isn't actually looting the body as such.

Drahzar
Drahzar will wait a few moments before advancing to the edge of the brush, stopping to get a length of rope from his pack then dismissing the entanglement. He will then move quickly to get the assassin's weapons.
Once the assassin has climbed down Drahzar will tie his hands in front of him, before looking for others.
Raina Glynra
Raina isn't expecting the second arrow as her buckler catches just enough of the arrow to deflect it into the ground as she is trying to prepare for a fight. She doesn't have her sling, as she has left it back in her room. She never expected someone would try to take her life today.
For a brief moment, she considers getting into the thick of it with her would be killer, but knows she probably wouldn't live 30 seconds. She instead retreats, to try and find the others in hopes of creating more numbers.

Auramesties
Wrapping it up. Report to the Discussion tab for our first AAR
Elrinides hits his assassin, but it does not slow down his escape.
Everyone finds Ayodhan caring for Theodemar as Sovyrians begin to clamp down the area. The body of the one that Vesyrn killed is missing. Drahzar has captured one, who is not anxious to talk, but apparently fears fiery death more than imprisonment or being found out.
Auramesties sends out his own people to find you. For those of you that did not know, he tells you Nim the strength competition contestant was killed.
After the all clear is given you are allowed to go back to your beds.
****************************Congradtualtions you made it to Level 2*******************************************************
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn gratefully accepts the offer.
"You have my thanks, master Auramesties. I will accept. I actually found employment outside of the gates, but mayhap there is a better opportunity for coin in here. I'll craft a fine blade and see if I can't interest a local smithy in hiring me. But, I think this has shown that those of us from Kyonin aren't safe. Perhaps you will consent to my accompanying you from time to time, as a bodyguard?"
Vesryn nods over at Drahzar.
"I...might have some skill in that area. I should be honest with all of you, though. I won't be gentle. He'll have one chance to talk. Then I'll start breaking him. He's part of a group that killed our kin. He's not getting out alive. He only has a chance to die without pain. You all might not want to be present for this."
Vesryn Tarathiel
Vesryn raises his single visible eyebrow.
"Testimony? To what end? If it were some easily identifiable private individual we could bring to justice, that would be one thing, but I don't think that's what's happening. I'm assuming the worst. I think we've attracted the attention of someone in the Soyvrian government, someone that wants the Kyonin elves here under their thumb. I don't think that person will be so foolish as to have let his true identity be known to these assassins. But...I suppose you have a point. Maybe we'll get lucky and his employer will have been foolish. I'll leave him breathing and mostly intact.
It's still going to be unpleasant."
Raina offers to attempt to interrogate the prisoner without force, and Vesryn goes along with it. It wouldn't be the first time he's played Bad Cop.
After Raina speaks, Vesryn makes his presence known.
Secured to Vesryn's pack is what looks to be a long black stick. Vesryn looks at the prisoner, and he begins to slide the stick out from it's binding. Vesryn's face relaxes, betraying no emotion. He finds the hollow place in himself where there is only anger, anger at his slain kin, and the will to do what must be done. When he speaks, his voice is nearly monotone, a reflection of what is inside of him at the moment.
"I wonder if you know who we are. I wonder what they told you. I wonder if your targets were whoever won the competition. That seems likely."
The stick has now come out. From the main body, two handles protrude perpendicularly. Something is folded near one end, something encased in a leather sheathe.
"My name is Vesryn Tarathiel. In Kyonin, I fought against the forces of Runelord Karzoug, just as my father did. I lost my eye fighting for my people. I lost my eye because of mercy."
Vesryn smiled coldly.
"I never make the same mistake twice."
At that, Vesryn depressed a button on the stick, and the leather sheathe and what was in it flicked out, coming to a stop. Vesryn, in no great rush, removed the sheathe, revealing a wicked blade.
"I prefer the curve blade, a weapon of our people. But this...this has been a trusty companion for many years. So easy, with this. So easy to take their legs, then their heads."
Vesryn rolled his neck from side to side, loosening his muscles.
"My own men started calling me the Reaper. They called me that, when they bought me drinks. When we compared scars. When we talked about what we would do when we were home, when we were safe."
Vesryn steps closer to the prisoner, hot anger creeping into his voice for the first time.
"Nim Sol'Thane will never have that again. He will never return home. He will never again know the embrace of his lover, the laughter of his children, the warmth of simply being home. You took that from him. You took that from us. Whatever he could have been, to his people, to himself, has been taken."
Vesryn crouched down to stare straight into the assassin's eyes.
"That cannot be countenanced. That must be avenged. And yet, one does not blame the arrow, does one? No, one blames he who fired the arrow. And so, as Raina said, we offer you this once chance. You can talk. You can tell us who hired you. If it was anonymous, you will tell them how they contacted you, what intermediaries they worked through. You will provide every detail. How much you were paid, by whom, in what currency, where it is stored. If you are part of a guild or a mercenary group. You. Will. Tell. Us. Everything."
Vesryn paused, took a breath, and stood up. He saw Ayodhan cast a spell, and felt the magic swell into him. He grew, and so did his gear.
"And if you do, despite what you tried to do, I swear that none of us will harm you. No matter how badly I wish to use this blade to peel the flesh from your face and laugh while you scream, I will not suffer a single hurt to be done to you from a single one of us."
Vesryn's face hardened.
"But if you deceive us, or are not forthcoming, then I swear by all the powers of this world and the next that whatever god you go to will weep when he sees what I have done to you."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
"You can talk to this lovely woman. Or to me. Your choice. Your funeral."
