Just paying it forward; my first PFS game, I was playing _Severing Ties_, and my character...to avoid spoilers for those who might not have played it, let's say that he incurred a condition that required a high-level spell to be cast on him to restore him to functionality. The rest of the party divided up the cost and each one kicked in an equal share.

GM DW, I don't think detect magic will help Vanyel detect the haunt. From the PRD:
Quote: Although haunts function like traps, they are difficult to detect since they cannot be easily observed until the round in which they manifest. Detect undead or detect alignment spells of the appropriate type allow an observer a chance to notice a haunt even before it manifests (allowing that character the appropriate check to notice the haunt, but at a –4 penalty).

I think he did it to get the boon, the Way of Kirin agreements. It kicks in scenario 4-21 and gives you a nice boon.
