Attacks as magic for DR. I'm assuming Esteriande and Ali aren't hasted yet, so didn't include that
DM Wellard
Ali gets bite only as it is not a full round attack
As the construct moves in both the Paladin and the wolf strike out at it..Esteriande's sword glances off the tough carapace but Ali's teeth fasten onto a front leg and inflict some damage.
Damage done =16
In reply the construct's stinger lashes out at the wolf form of the gnome druid.

and then the tentacle erupts from the floor and siezes the macabre construct

Marak reviews his options quickly, and notes that he has prepared too many mind-affecting or 'smite evil' spells. Instead he calls down a general blessing upon his allies.

As her pack begins to surround and take down the aberrant construct, DireAliWolf steps around to flank the bone-thing then again lunges in to attack.

And so what's happening with this tentacle thing??
Romon
Pretty sure the tentacle thing is Inikai's.
Remembered fear tugs at him and Romon hesitates at the door. What are we doing here? Why are we fighting this thing? Really, what's the point?
Is Romon going to need a new save next round when he steps back into the fray?
Alisebett
Ah! Gracias! I totally missed that post by Icki. I thought it was something Wellard threw in, like a third unknown party in this fight. Makes much more sense now ; )
DM Wellard
Romon starts this round out off sight off the construct so no save needed..if it is still up and running at the start of your next turn you need a save.
The Construct has the grappled condition...-4 to DEX, -2 to attacks
Swords hack, teeth bite,Magic Missiles pound and the construct doesn't look as pristine as it once did
Total damage 127
it does try to fight back hampered though it is by the tentacle.
Claw on Muchorak 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35 Damage 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (6, 3) + 8 = 17
Sting on Esteriande 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Claw on Ali 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 332d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 6) + 8 = 16
Then Muchorak drops it
Total damage 146
Fight over
Romon
Romon dashes in through the far door and delivers a double handed blow to the construct's body with his mace. Then he realizes that it is already quite dead.
"Late to the party again, I am," he observes. He kicks one of the skulls free to bounce and skitter across the floor.
Inikai
Inikai waits until Muchorak and Esteriende's wounds have been tended to before be says anything.
Then, with his eyes on the skull-scorpion he says "let's see what else is here and get out of this place as quickly as possible. Everything we have seen since we left Magnimar has been sickening. Really, what kind of people were these Thasilonians? By the looks of their remnants the world is better off without them."
Romon
Looks like it might have tagged Ali too. Fear can be a good healthy emotion.
... skitters across the floor, bounces off the wall , kind of hops up and comes down spinning slowly. Romon looks up from the spinning skull and sees his comrades' injuries for the first time.
"Guys! Are you all right? Randy, Ali, ... Macho ...." The half-elven rogue looks to Marak for aid.
Esteriande d'Litran
"I am well," Esteriande reassures Romon. She calls on Shellyn's grace and sends a wave of healing energy through the gathered party.
Channel Positive Energy: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 2, 1) = 12 healing
Like a slow wave, the touch of the goddess of love swells through everyone, soothing pains like a mother's touch, and lifting hearts like a lover's kiss. Even the uninjured feel the presence and reassurance that each, in their way, are treasured and loved.
Romon
Nice, dabbler.
Romon soaks up positive power. Better than -- Wait! what am I thinking!? He smiles and winks at Esteriande before sliding over to check out the model.
"It's perfect," he says as he looks closely at the model. A finger glides over a skull and the lavender stone is gone.
Sleight of Hand: take 10 for 26. Go ahead, call him on it.
Wellard, how good is the model? Does it show the damage done to the dam too?
Marak Quan
|
Reminded of the Thassilonian marks on his arm, Marak grimaces at Inikai's all-too-accurate words about the world being better off without the ancient culture he once found so fascinating.
He retrieves the skull that Romon kicked and places it on the table, treating it respectfully, but makes no comment on the matter.
So many dead, and treated with such disrespect by their own culture. It's a wonder they lasted as long as they did, devouring its own in such a manner.
DM Wellard
As noted above the model shows the Dam in it's original state..
The model and the construct speak much of the Thassilonian's ingenuity and of their ultimate decadence.
You search the remainder of this level of the dam and find nothing more of note the last room is devoid of any occupants and contains only a large pool that occupies most of its floor surface. It would appear that your job here is done.
Inikai
"Gah! What was the pittance that we agreed to for this? Was it 300 golden sails? If we do anything for these people again we need to make certain that we demand more than that. Just walking into this place should fetch more than that, to say nothing of those filthy ogres." Inikai trails off to incoherent mumblings, a look of disgust on his face.
Naria Yamyra
"Oh my gosh." Naria seemingly really excited by the actual working Dam model inspecting it while the others search the rest of the floor as well as seeing if there is a way to transport it.
"For a chance to see this I would have gladly done it for free." Naria in responce to Inikai'd words.
Inikai

Perception
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28Naught, naughty
Romon
Nice roll, Bill. Since Wellard broadcast the presence of the stone, I think we're all aware that it's there before Romon touches the model. I don't think you need a roll to note its presence and then its absence. But to actually see him take it. You're good.
Romon's almost as excited as Naria by the model. "I wonder if it works just like the dam. When the dam's sluices close, do these close too?"
Muchorak "Windstriker"
The Shoanti lets out a relaxing sigh as the healing energies flow through him healing his wounds...and after the rest of the dam is searched, "So what now? Is there no more threat here?"
Esteriande d'Litran
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 Somebody has earned a spanking...
Esteriande takes note of Romon's actions but says nothing. Yet. Romon's not going to be sitting right tomorrow...
"Gah! What was the pittance that we agreed to for this? Was it 300 golden sails? If we do anything for these people again we need to make certain that we demand more than that. Just walking into this place should fetch more than that, to say nothing of those filthy ogres."
Esteriande looks up from the fascinating model and arches an eyebrow at Inikai, having completely forgotten that the party were being paid anything at all.
"Zere are ozzer rewards than gold, mon amis. Today we 'ave per'aps saved ze lives of all in Turtleback Ferry, we 'ave discovered much of ze Thassilonian empire, we 'ave removed a threat from ze people of zis region as well. As for money, ze loot from our enemies amounts to far more zan a few 'undred gold coins and is ours by right of conquest. We 'ave tested ourselves and found zat we are strong. Indeed, Inikai, we 'ave gained far, far mnore zan a mere three 'undred gold coins," She laughs and claps Inikai on the shoulder.
"Do not be so glum and bitter. We 'ave done much today. We may yet do more. Be on your guard, everyone, there may be more trolls about."
Inikai
"Yes, I am sure you are both right. More than likely, it is just the overall vileness of our enemies that disturbs me; it seems to grow with each encounter."
"I will probably feel better after a bath and a drink, or a few."
Is the model mounted to the floor? I am curious about the possibility of moving it.
"And, I suppose that the model could be instructional to future builders. Perhaps there could be some gain to be realized from it after all."
Marak Quan
|
"There is magic to reduce the size of a cumbersome item for ease of transport, but it is not something readily available to priestly sorts such as myself. Perhaps later, you can acquire a scroll of such and return to find a better place to display this model, where it might benefit future engineers and architects." Marak says to Naria, clearly eager to distract himself from less cheerful thoughts, although his hand still rests possessively on the skull he retrieved from the floor, almost as if he's attempting to find something rational to salvage from all the horror that surrounds them.
Romon
Romon shrugs. "Too bad. It's kinda neat."
...
Seriously guys unless you want to fight the trolls who generally keep the ogres off the dam then you are done here
FREE XP!!!!!
Ready to go. What about the plant room? Do we want to sweep that too?
Inikai
As the others leave the room, Inikai pauses for a moment and contemplates the pile of skulls that had menaced them so recently. Briefly, he considers taking one of the skulls as a souvenir but the thought of Marak's reaction stays him and he follows the others out of the room.
Dabbler
Esteriande was referring to the central keep which is by strict definition a castle within a fort:
Fort (n): a military building designed to be defended from attack, consisting of an area surrounded by a strong wall, in which soldiers are based.
Castle (n): a large strong building, built in the past by a ruler or important person to protect the people inside from attack.
Marak Quan
|
Thoughts turned to more practical matters, as they leave the dam behind them, Marak offers healing to those who need it, and discusses with Naria where would be the most useful, from an architectural standpoint, to reconstruct the town, as the Mayor might not have access again to those as trained in those arts as himself and Naria.
