DM Wellard |
So Moving on..
You enter the chamber and Romon in a typical burst of flashiness leaps over the pool.he turns towards the rest off you with a grin..
"See, I told you it was ea.." he begins to tell Inikai just as a massive shape erupts from the waters of the pool.
The Troll is quite the biggest any off you have ever seen and towers over the young Rogue, as an equally Massive trident in it's right hand stabs towards him.
Trident 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Damage4d6 + 14 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 6) + 14 = 31
4d6 + 14 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 3) + 14 = 31
Total 62
Romon slumps to the floor bleeding out.
SUPRISE!!!!!
One action each folks
Romon |
Edit: damn. His stat line is wrong too. I'll fix that too, and we'll just roll with R at -4 hp on the surprise round.
Blood and drool ooze from Romon and drip into the pool.
Esteriande d'Litran |
Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
"NO!"
Esteriande hurtles into the attack with wild abandon. Smite evil (+3/+9) + power attack (-3/+9) + partial charge (+2, -2 AC to 24).
Attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35 Damage: 1d10 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 26
Threat Confirm: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21 Damage: 1d10 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 26 + 1d10 ⇒ 4 Fire
Marak Quan |
Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Recognizing that the troll can likely reach him from wherever he stands, Marak accepts the possibility of being struck as well as he advances forward, shield held high, to stand behind Roman's position, facing the battle.
Move to 11,10. Ready to heal when I've got a full action.
DM Wellard |
Marak is safe because you can't make AoO's on a surprise round either.
Sorry Esteriande..you are not close enough to attack in the surprise round as you would have to move more than 5 feet. But I'll let you retain that attack for the next round. You make it to 08.08(See I can be kind sometimes..and speaking of being kind...)
Apologies to Romon you are on 4hp...though I suspect you might be playing dead at the moment. At least it wasn't all on one attack and you didn't have to make the insta-death save
Romon |
Romon lies still and waits for the troll to turn his back.
Wellard, you ninja'd me here while I was posting in the OOC thread. I am somewhat confused regarding my thief's HP in general. -- And playing dead is exactly what Romon's going to do.
Inikai |
When the troll savages Romon, Inikai is momentarily taken aback and stands rooted in place. Kill it with fire he thinks, or burn it with acid. With that he inhales deeply.
But when Esteriende launches herself into the pool he realizes that she is in the way of his attack and quickly the binder changes his tactics. Instead of spewing forth acid he sneers, steps to his left 09.04 looks upward To keep Esteriende and Romon out of the cone of effect and looses an assault on the troll's mind.
Mind blast Will save DC 19 or be stunned for 3-12 rounds*
* Wellard, we never established the duration of the effect. It is given as being the same as a mind-flayer's blast, but I can readily see a minimum of 3 rounds being excessive, especially since it can affect multiple creatures.
Muchorak "Windstriker" |
Sorry about my absence, been really busy with school and work. I'll update the level today.
Gathering himself after slaughtering the beast the ranger turns to his companions, "Whatever magic stunned it so." He sheathes his blades, "Was something I hope can be repeated."
Inikai |

"It's not something that I can do as often as I would like" Inikai says, while rubbing his temples and closing his eyes tightly. "It is an effort and I need to recover after doing it, much like the difference between swinging a greataxe and thrusting with a dagger, if that makes sense."
When Inikai opens his eyes the irises are a bright green set against a lighter green sclera. The discoloration lasts only a moment before fading and his eyes return to their normal shade of brown.
"How is Romon?"
Romon |
"How would I be? It's dangerous work keeping you all from blundering into traps." Romon's injuries may have made him snappish. He still thanks Esteriande for her attention with a linger squeeze of her hand.
Marak Quan |
Marak delivers the healing that he'd been about to deliver before the troll was stunned and slain, and then begins tapping him with his wand of cure light wounds, over and over.

Alisebett |
DireAliWolf Swim check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
DireAliWolf Climb check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
The water deeper than she had realized, DireAliWolf swims to the side, climbs out, and then rushes to help her packmates slay the stunned troll.
When finished the grisly work, she rushes over to Romon to check that he is ok. As she licks his face with her massive tongue, she inadvertently gets some troll blood and guts all over him.
Romon |
That should be enough healing. Orphan boy will be a little more subdued for a while. Thanks.
Romon rubs his fingers into the deep fur behind Ali's wolf ears, and works them back and forth for a few moments before he rolls to his feet, to escape Ali's tongue.
"Thanks, Marak. 'Randi." He tries brushing some of the mess off, then gives up. "I'm going to need some water."
Looking about he asks, "what happened to the big boy, there? All of a sudden he was about as active as a wood Shoanti."
Inikai |
Looking about he asks, "what happened to the big boy, there? All of a sudden he was about as active as a wood Shoanti."
Romon's adventuring career is a gave loss to Magnimar's Diplomatic Office.
Inikai starts to speak but for several seconds only gibberish comes out of his mouth."Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"
Clearing his mouth of an unsightly strand of phlegm, he glances sheepishly at the others and says "Excuse me"."
"Uh...what about that thing's trident. Is it useful to us? Is there anything else at the bottom of the pool?"
Inikai |
Once the others have finished attending to Romon, Inikai walks over and picks up the trident from where it fell. "Hmm, too big to use, but it would look good mounted on a wall" he says before stowing it in his haversack.
Esteriande d'Litran |
"Maybe the magic can be syphoned out of it, or somezing," Esteriande shrugs. "Let's see whatelse is down 'ere. At least we know 'oo 'wet papa' refers too. Ze ogres must 'ave run into trolls."
Romon |
"They probably lead someplace important. But you'll have to move those skulls without me. My back just doesn't feel right." He feigns stretching and flinching in pain.
BLuff 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
If there's heavy lifting involved Romon wants nothing to do with it.
Wellard, were you serious about leveling up to 10?
Esteriande d'Litran |
"Zat is no great chore," Esteriande replies, looking sadly at the pile of skulls. "At least in the work, the nature...is different."
Taking up a skull Esteriande murmurs a prayer to the spirit of it's owner and lowers it into the pool. Then she takes another...
Inikai |
"Careful, there might be traps. Although, with a troll as the only occupant of this room, I doubt it." As Inikai pitches in he briefly looks over the skulls to try to determine what kind of creatures they belonged to in life. Following Esteriende's example, he gently places the skulls into the pool.
Alisebett |
While the others work on the pile of skulls, DireAliWolf pads over to Romon, nudges him with her muzzle, almost accidentally knocking him over, and then pads towards the first doorway, looking back over her shoulder.
With or without the rogue, she will carefully sniff and check out all the possible exits.
Perception and Scent on every possible exit, except the one they came from of course. Don't know how many there are, so feel free to roll them for her, on or off the boards.
Romon |
Romon follows along with Ali. While she sniffs, he listens and checks each door for traps.

Marak Quan |
Marak joins in the skull removal, attempting to ensure that each skull is handled with appropriate dignity, which seems a Sisyphean task, given the indignities that have already been heaped upon them.
"I still don't understand why every ogre and troll in existence hasn't been murdered by angry specters yet... *Humans* can't get away with this nonsense without hauntings and wraiths and violated spirits retaliating!" he mutters, incensed by the unjust workings of the universe.

Marak's words causes Inikai to nearly drop the skull in his hands. Anyone observing him afterward notices that he moves slower and with greater care than before. All the while Inikai wonders why Marak's observations are so.
Esteriande d'Litran |
"I still don't understand why every ogre and troll in existence hasn't been murdered by angry specters yet... *Humans* can't get away with this nonsense without hauntings and wraiths and violated spirits retaliating!"
"Naturally not, zey slay zeir victims elsewhere, and zat is where zeir spirits 'aunt zis world," Esteriande shrugs. "Or zey return to places familiar to zem. Where zeir skulls are, zat 'as less relevance. Zat is why ogres and trolls are able to do what zey do - zey leave zeir curses for ozzers to deal with."
