Horatio A Aldebrandt
Horatio seems to finally notice his left hand scratching at his right; he slowly forces the two apart, looking for a way to keep them busy. He settles for folding his fingers together and leaning heavily on the table, trusting the weight of his body to keep his hands pressed hard against the table.
He takes in Pavanna's speech, marvelling at her efficient military manner. The plan sounded solid enough. At the mention of 'academics, religious types, and purveyors of mystical knowledge', he gives a bitter smile, looking through his own memory for anything he's heard.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
At Asuriel's words, he can't help raising an eyebrow. "You said yourself that her remains were never found. There would be nothing for an identify thief to obtain at the boneyard. Someone able to go to such lengths as putting this woman in my dream-" he taps the portrait in the journal with one finger "- would know this. If it is an imposter, they've done their research. I find it far easier to believe that sometimes, aasimar turn to evil. Just as tieflings turn to good." You've already judged Pavanna on her heritage, and seemingly learned from it. Why are you so quick to make assumptions about aasimar? He locks his eyes with Asuriel's, the reminder going mostly unspoken.
And I shouldn't post at 12:30 am. I don't even know if I'm making sense! :D
Olivius_Telraven
Olivius simply raises an eyebrow at Pavanna's terse response and does not engage. Well, that struck a nerve.
He listens to her breakdown while checking off a mental list of things he would note and is surprised to find that everything is covered.
Well stated, Pavanna. Regardless of whether the tunnels can be used by goblins, and everything points to that being true, the tunnels must be scouted at the least. I would collapse them or barricade them until this threat is past. That will probably be our job.
I also agree that waiting on the walls is suicide. Sitting and waiting for the foe to enact their plan is a sure way to get beaten, or in this case, eaten. Preemptive strikes are our best defense now. That will also probably be on us.
Our Gobbo braining days have only just begun.
Asuriel Arktaros
"... I find it far easier to believe that sometimes, aasimar turn to evil. Just as tieflings turn to good."
Asuriel locks eyes with Horatio as he meets her eyes. If it were possible, her eyes would be blazing with fire. She clenches her teeth and bites down hard. She briefly lets her eyes flick to Pavanna, but they do not linger there.
Difficult situation. I cannot speak ill of tieflings here without offending Pavanna, yet we all know she is the light in the darkness of fiends.
Returning here eyes to Horatio she gives a slight shake of her head in disbelief. She crosses her arms on her chest and says, "We have a lot of information that purports that Nualia is behind the supposed wrong doings in town, but we have no actual proof it is her. We DO know that she was the daughter of a beloved priest of Desna. We DO know she was a living miracle AND had a bloodline tracing back to the divinity itself. Do you know of any evil Aasimar's? Have you ever heard such a tale? No. I bet you have not. It is far more likely to recall stories of tiefling that rape, torture and murder innocents than an Aasimar."
As Asuriel continues speaking her words gain volume as well as momentum, clearly taking a stake in the conversation. Her fist are balled under her arms across her chest as she tightens then as she continues to speak. She inches forward to Horatio, closing the gap and coming within a few inches of him. She doesn't pause between her words, not giving a break to allow Horatio to intterupt her. She continues her tirade, raw emotion bleeding from her words. As emotion takes over Asuriel's thoughts she switches to Infernal without even realizing she has done so.
"Что вы знаете что-нибудь о том симпатичном человеке? Что вы знаете о таких вещах Вы знаете что-нибудь о том симпатичном человеке? Хм? Ты был избит до полусмерти вашей жизни по тифлингов? Вы были замучены и молился для смерти от рук тифлингов? Что вы знаете? ЧТО!
Asuriel's eyes continue to burn as the tall Aasimar stares across at bard, inches away. She doesn't back down but takes a hastened breath and lets some of the fire fade away.
"Возвращаясь к вашему заявлению раньше. Да кости ушли, мы находим журнал Tsuto одержим женщиной, похожий на Nualia и вы все, мол, приснился плохой сон с кем-то, кто напоминает ей."
Asuriel is clearly agitated by this conversation for some reason and lets her emotion get the better of her. More by accident than by design she raises her eyebrow when she makes several comments in an accusatory statement of disbelief.
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel is still pretty amped up and when Olivius shouts at her, it's almost as if she doesn't hear or understand him. Or maybe she just doesn't care to abide by his request. Either way, she is entirely focused on the Aasimar-hater in front of her.
C'mon. Say it. C'MON!
Standing nearly toe to toe with him, waiting for him to react.
Pavanna Alazario
«Asuriel, Будет!» Pavanna barks sharply, inserting herself between the aasimar and Horatio as best she can.
After a moment or two, she continues, her tone even but as hard as steel.
“«Right now, ‘who’ Tsuto’s lover and partner-in-massacre may be is not only unconfirmed, it is immaterial. Our most pressing concern right now is foiling her intentions for Sandpoint. Identifying her is beside the point.»”
Asuriel Arktaros
Pavanna's words snap the oracle from the fire that possessed her moments ago.
Stop it Asuriel, this is not your fight. You are letting your emotions get the best of you!
Realizing she went overboard she lets her eyes break the gaze with Horatio and unfolds her shaking arms from her chest as she takes a step backward from Pavanna to open the space some. She looks away from Horatio, eyes cast down towards the floor. She holds a hesitant palm out to Horatio in a surrendering action, her arm tremoring slightly. She mutters a few hoarse words in an apology, but none of the syllables are truly coherent. She takes a step backwards again and moves to a chair and collapses in it, staring blankly off out a window.
Noro Kas
Noro sat quietly, during the discussion, and the planning, she knew she didn't fit the descriptions of magical, or academic, or whatever big words she used.
the brawler decides to get a drink while the "smart folks" talk. She starts to make some small talk with Lou, trying to convince huim to go sit with Amieko. but that barely starts when the discussion turns "elevated"
Noro turns to face the two arguing, She starts to step forward to protect Horatio, but stays put, she knows he is capable. still Noro has no problem smacking anyone that intends harm to Horatio.
the language barrier present, Noro can only guess what they are discussing based on the tone of the comments.
eventually Noro adds what she knows. Nualia, ain't no shaint, she wash trouble for a long time. She duped the Church, her father, hell she had mosht of the town duped. even me, until.. Noro apuses a bit.
SHe reshented her heratige, she was just plain trouble. and Tsuto ish probably jusht a pawn.

After the lunch you two shared, Ameiko is half-asleep in a nest of pillows Bethana had made for the young woman. She starts and winces as fresh pain shoots through her body.
"誰が叫んだ?"
Minkaian: Who's yelling?
The words are half-formed as the groggy bard rubs her eyes.
Saroune Anzoletta
Saroune stands up and stretches, having fallen asleep in the chair beside Ameiko's bed. She groans when she hears the shouting match. Asuriel and Pavanna at it again, most likely.
"You get some more rest, Ameiko. I'm going to see what the fuss is."
When downstairs...
"Sweet Besmara's cleat, people. Ameiko is trying to get some rest upstairs," Saroune hisses. "I don't know what the problem is this time, but take this foolishness outside, now"
Olivius_Telraven
Olivius holds up his hands to calm the mage. I think it just blew over. We'll be more quiet. By the way, we'll be leaving soon for an emergency city council meeting. Your presence as well as ours is required.
Horatio A Aldebrandt
As Asuriel's tone rises, Horatio springs from his chair, darwing himself up to his full height in a defiant refusal to allow himself to be intimidated. "Следите за своими словами, Asuriel," he hisses, keeping his voice low. "Самые злые деяния, которые я видел, были в руках человечества - простых, повседневных людей, как вы и я. Я слышал и сказали больше сказки, чем вы можете себе представить, и всем удаётся именно совершать злодеяния, независимо от расы или вероисповедания. Теперь перестают эту оборонительную лепет, чтобы кто-то кажется, что ты на ее стороне!"
Through his speech, he remains eerily calm, with anger simmering beneath the surface of his skin. His hands remain at his sides, quivering as he fights to keep control of himself. When Pavanna steps between himself and Asuriel, he relaxes in immediate relief - though the top of her head didn't block her eyes from his, the physical barrier stops the escalation. As Asuriel staggers backwards into a chair, he's already sitting back in his own, turning his eyes back to the journal - but not before offering the tiefling a small smile and a nod.
"You're right. Who our enemy is isn't important. Whoever she - or he, for all we know - is, it's the plan that needs to be stopped, and Sandpoint that hangs in the balance." On the upside, he appears to have stopped scratching his hands, though he twitches his fingertips every few seconds.
"Noro, that's useful. That's good to know." He gives the brawler an appreciative smile, though it doesn't reach his eyes. "There are several tales of people casting aside their heritage and defying the preconceptions. And I'm sure whoever Tsuto's lover is, she's got him duped, and duped good."
When Saroune makes her way downstairs, he raises a hand apologetically. "It appears I said something I shouldn't have," he sighs. "As Olivius said, it's passed, and we can talk like civilized folk now." He forces that smile again, though it seems almost real as he skims an eye over Saroune's change of clothes. "And may I add that you look lovely this evening?" he asks, the hint of humor finally creepinhg back into his face.

Asuriel turns and focuses on Noro when she speaks about Nualia. She eyes her words with suspicion but keeps her thoughts to herself for now.
Typical humans. Everyone seems ready to hang the Aasimar already without any solid proof. And they wonder why I try to keep my heritage a secret! At least Pavanna hasn't given me away ... yet.
Asuriel turns her head slowly to Pavanna and watches her for several seconds without speaking. Trying to guage whether or not she will keep the secret safe she wonders, I've only told Pavanna about this. If anyone else knows it's because she told them.
Asuriel continues to watch Pavanna silently until Horatio speaks. Asuriel rolls her eyes and scoffs quietly. When he's done she exhales, trying to push away her frustration for now.
From in the chair Asuriel mutters under breath, "That's what I was saying. We don't know who it is."
Turning to Pavanna she says, "I don't understand why if we know the leader is at Thistletop we are going to go spelunking under the town for some supposed demon? If the leader, whoever it is" She shoots a quick glance to Horatio, "is at Thistletop they surely can't issue the order to attack the town if we deal with that threat first."
Asuriel points to the journal and says, "It specifically states the leader of one of the tribes is at Thistletop and is involved. Shalelu told us of him and I beleive that is where we need to go. If we dilly dally underground and waste time then Sandpoint could be sacked or attack again and we will be none the wiser."

“Shalelu also told us that Thistletop is a notoriously well-fortified goblin-lair on its own island. As Olivius said, attempts to take positions like that are prone to failure, and win-or-lose they’re almost always incredibly costly.
“More to the point, it’s several miles from here, which means any effort we make against it will take us out of town for most of a day, at the least. If we go after ‘our unknown foe’ —” Pavanna’s emphasis is rather pointed “— at Thistletop first, this quasit and her forces could choose to strike early in our absence, and Sandpoint would be in flames before we ever reached the island.” Or worse, we might return to find it turned into another Worldwound!
“Better to deal with the closer threat first. If an attack in our absence is your concern, well, we can return to town faster from the tunnels than we can from Thistletop. More importantly, clearing-and-closing the tunnels denies ‘our unknown foe’ troops and an undefended approach to her target; she’ll have to delay action while she adjusts her plans, which buys us more time to act against her directly. Indeed, dealing with the tunnels first may even gain us more and better information about ‘our unknown foe’ — especially if this quasit is her ally or familiar and can be persuaded to talk.”

Seems like this is close to wrapping up, so here goes.
As the hour draws near, the party gets ready, Bethana locks up the Rusty Dragon as Lou helps Ameiko down the stairs. The sky is already darkening and as you approach Sandpoint's town hall, you see that at least half the town is gathering, though the meeting is not for another half-hour, and it's likely more are coming judging by the number of people in the streets.
Inside the meeting hall, the air is tense as whispered conversations buzz all about. Some are about the sheriff leaving town for reinforcements, others fearfully suggest another goblin raid has been spotted on its way to raze the town to the ground. Some of those conversations are about the grisly scene at the Glassworks. A few fear that the Sandpoint Devil has united the goblins to kill the townsfolk so it can feast on their souls. Those that notice Ameiko immediately turn to expressing their pity and sorrow that the young woman had lost so much in so short a time.
In any event, a bench has been set aside for the Heroes of Sandpoint and Ameiko. A pair of grim-faced guardsman, the twin Chalmer sisters Noro recognizes, flank the bench and help Ameiko get seated. The tension in the air rises with each passing minute, and soon all the conversations simply grow quiet as anticipation silences even the most avid of Sandpoint's gossipers.
Shortly after the party is seated, the doors behind the curved table reserved for Sandpoint's town council boom open, announcing the arrival of the councilmen and the mayor.
Kendra Deverin is followed by a pale-faced Tilo. Behind them is an imperious, blond-haired and mustachioed man who glares from Kendra to Tilo before finding his seat. Behind him is Father Zantus who's face seems to have gained a new wrinkle or two. The last man to appear causes the entire crowd in the meeting hall to fall silent. The man is old and bent with age, but his dark eyes are sharp and his white hair is pulled neatly back. The weight of authority and age looms over the others in his presence.
Once everyone is at there seat, Kendra sits, signalling for the others to follow suit, once the council is seated, she takes a gavel and heralds the start of the meeting with the sharp crack of wood on wood.
"This emergency session of Sandpoint's town council will come to order. As I'm certain you are all aware, the presence of the public is on the council's sufferance, as such, please keep quiet and outbursts to a minimum. Anyone causing a disruption will be escorted out and to the jail if need be."
Kendra looks out over the crowd and nods when it appears that they would not be the cause of trouble. Turning to the stack of notes in front of her, the mayor continues on.
"The reasons for this emergency session are to discuss and deal with the threats arrayed against Sandpoint, to discuss the impact of the recent raids on the Swallowtail festival and the Glassworks, and to discuss the impact of the death of Lonjiku Kaijitsu. If the council has no questions we will begin." Kendra looks up and at the other council members who nod.
"Very well then, lets get the simplest question out of the way. With the passing of Lonjiku Kaijitsu, his oldest surviving heir is now Ameiko Kaijitsu. The council will now vote on whether to allow Ameiko to claim the titles, lands, privileges, and responsibilities of her late father. All in favor?"
Three ayes from Tilo, the old man, and Father Zantus ring out in unison.
"Opposed?"
The blond man says nothing and Kendra nods as the motion passes.
"Let the record show that Ameiko Kaijitsu's inheritance of her late father's position is affirmed. Ameiko, if you sould join us up here?" Kendra motions to the lone empty chair, her voice softer than when announcing the business of the council.
Ameiko, with Lou's help, makes her way to the table, and manages to give a wan smile as she takes her seat.
"There are other formalities that often accompany a new councilor take her set. Seeing as we have much more pressing concerns, I believe that we can dispense with most of them," the blond man's jaw begins to work at the mention of this, but keeps his mouth shut.
"Father Zantus?" Kendra asks, turning to the priest.
"Of course madam. Ameiko, please stand." Father Zantus says as he rises. Again, with Lou's aid, the young innkeeper and Sandpoint's newest noble rises to her unsteady feet.
"Do you, Ameiko Kaijitsu, daughter of Lord Lonjiku Kaijitsu, swear to uphold the laws of the town of Sandpoint, to act in the best interests of her citizens and to meet the responsibilities of your title with swiftness and justice." Father Zantus' voice cuts through the air like a well-honed blade.
"I do so swear." Ameiko's answer is not as powerful as the priest's, but her voice is steady and shows no sign of the emotional turmoil roiling in her heart and soul.
"Please be seated, Lady Kaijitsu."
Ameiko gratefully takes her seat, more so because her legs were still shaky than any wish for the limited power of her seat on the council.
"Now that the matter of Lonjiku's death has been resolved, let us move on to the matter of the raid on the Sandpoint Glassworks this morning. Would one of the Heroes of Sandpoint be willing to recount what occurred and the information you uncovered?"
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel swivels to look at Horatio as well before turning back towards the council and standing. She faces the council and speaks loudly so all may hear her. "If it pleases the council, our humble group believes that our findings would best be recounted Hero Horatio Aldebrandt. His ability to relay factual findings without lacing it with personal belief or opinion is unparallelled amongst us."
While still facing the council Asuriel quietly takes her seat without turning to look at Horatio.
Horatio A Aldebrandt
Having changed into a clean, undamaged shirt, shaved the unsightly stubble that was beginning to form on his jaw, and even polished his boots, Horatio seems at ease in the town hall. This was talking and negotiation, after all - things he was good at.
He listens to the whispered conventions with mild interest - hardly anything was concerning. Though the mention of one thing has him briefly searching his mind to occupy himself as he waits for the meting to begin.
Knowledge (local) - Sandpoint Devil?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Pfft, just local nonsense. Nothing to worry about.
He can't help a small smile twitching at his lips as Ameiko takes her seat on the council. She would do a good job, he was sure - though it was a shame the power came to her under such circumstances.
He has the decency to almost look embarrassed as Asuriel nominates him to recount the tale, though whether it's genuine or an act to appear humble is unclear. Clearing his throat, he stands to address those gathered, his voice clear and resonant in the hall.
"We were summoned to the Glassworks this morning, following the disappearance of Lady Kaijitsu. Upon arrival, we were greeted by upwards of a dozen goblins, who were destroying the place, and desecrating the remains of the staff." He pauses to allow this to sink in, lifting his chin slightly before continuing. "The other occupant of the Glassworks was Tsuto Kaijitsu, who had lured Ameiko there under false pretences before betraying, beating, and imprisoning her." His eyes flick to Ameiko, and he hopes she can read the apology in his face - after all, the facts needed to be recounted.
"Among the deceased was the late Lonjiku Kaijitsu, who appeared to have been gruesomely murdered by Tsuto." That's probably a detail we can neglect to mention. "Among Tsuto's possessions, we found a journal that contains news most dire.
"Another raid is being planned on Sandpoint." He remains silent for a moment, allowing for the expected horrified murmurs. "Tsuto speaks of his love, who is supposed to be both clever and beautiful, and who has seemingly united the goblin tribes near Sandpoint under a common cause, likely through fear. She has rallied the bugbear Bruthazmus to her aid, as well as a quasit, who has troops of her own. These last appear to be located in catacombs below the Glassworks." Expecting panic to rise at this point, he holds up a hand to silence the assembled crowd. "However, we hold a distinct advantage over the enemies of Sandpoint - namely, they don't know that we have uncovered this information. As some of our number - namely, Ms. Alazario and Mr.-" He pauses, realising that Olivius had never told him has last name "- Mr. Olivius have suggested, our priority now is to investigate the tunnels below Sandpoint. We must eliminate the threat that lies closer to the heart of the town, thereby delaying the raid while our foe is forced to change her plans to account for the loss of troops. During this time, we will march on her base of operations at Thistletop, striking before she has a chance to conduct the raid, and scattering the goblin tribes once more.
"Datk times are ahead for Sandpoint," he finishes solemnly, his face grim, his eyes sweeping from the townspeople, to the council, to the other 'Heroes'. "I tell you this not to sow fear among its residents, but to reassure you. Gods willing, none of you will know fear or despair. As the Heroes of Sandpoint, it falls to us to deal with this threat. Between us, we possess the strength of arms, the mastery of magics both arcane and divine, the skills, the knowledge, and the teamwork necessary to quell this threat. We can, and we will, prevent this raid. With the support and trust of the town, we can eliminate Sandpoint's enemies - possibly even permanently."
Horatio A Aldebrandt
I tried. It's hard playing a charismatic character sometimes!
DM-Salsa
"Lovely words, boy, but how can we be certain this isn't a trap to lure even more of our strength away from town?" The blonde man's voice oozes contempt as he poses his question, but fortunately for Horatio, Tilo and Father Zantus are quick to come to the young man's aid.
"It may be of some interest to you, Titus, that I've known Tsuto since he was young. I helped his mother when she was birthing the boy, and I happen to know that he's not someone you'd use in a feint. He's too honest, in his own way, and anyone who is even remotely familiar with the history between him and the Kasuris knows that putting him in arms reach of Lou is not a good way to keep secrets," Father Zantus' voice is cold and hard, and very unlike the tone of voice many in town have heard out of him.
"Lord Scarnetti, The good Father is right. Tsuto spilled his guts after Lou and he met at the garrison. From that I've learned several things about recent events. He was the one that lead the raid during the festival. He also lured Lord Kaijitsu to the Glassworks so he could kill him, and did so by strapping the man to a chair and pouring molten glass over him while he was alive. He also lured Ameiko there in hopes of getting her to join him, then beat her senseless when she proved to have a stronger set of morals than he had guessed. He was also involved with several meetings involving this second raid that's being planned. What that lying bastard told us has confirmed everything that this fine young lad has said." Tilo glares at Titus Scarnetti, daring the other man to speak.
"That's enough, from all of you," Kendra says, her voice cutting off Scarnetti's retort as it reaches the tip of his tongue. She then turns to Horatio, her eyes softening, but her expression still grim, "I've been given a brief account of what Tilo's interrogation turned up, including the existence of the smuggler's tunnels beneath the Glassworks. Can you tell me how far you have explored those tunnels?"
Olivius_Telraven
I can, my lady. Olivius says as he stands. His voice seems to have suddenly lost some of its normally rougher accents. He stands straight, yet is relaxed as he addresses Kendra.
[I]As small town leaders go, this one seems competent.[i] He thinks. And a woman to boot.
I personally explored several dozen yards down the tunnel. There was no end in sight, but evidence of Goblin activity was manifold.
Horatio A Aldebrandt
Horatio's eyes flick to Olivius, a faint spark of annoyance flaring up suddenly before he snuffs it out, resolving not to let it show - not here, not now. "My companion speaks the truth. Our group is planning on investigating the tunnels further in the morning."
Noro Kas
Noro remained silent during the proceedings. she was not one for public speaking. but noticing Lou's expression, she places her hand on his shoulder. Silently reassuring him everything will be alright.
However, when Titus speaks, Noro definately has her guard up, there was just something about him she did not trust. he reminded her of someone else she would rather not remember.
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel waits penitently while everyone is speaking, unsure whether she should add anything or not. Being as the current topic being pursued is talk of the tunnel, she continues to wait silently.
Pavanna Alazario
For her part, Pavanna holds her peace as well. She can add little of substance to what Horatio and Olivius have already said about the tunnels or the threat looming over Sandpoint, and given Asuriel’s issues regarding tiefings and aasimar, she’d rather not be the first to raise any matter related to Nualia Tobyn.
DM-Salsa
"Well, I am certainly glad to hear that you were already planning to secure the tunnels. Our information is vague, beyond the fact that there's something dangerous in the tunnels controlled by a minor demon from the abyss. Once you have finished with that and recovered, we would all like to move on Thistletop. Yes, I'm aware that it is very well defended, and that taking it will not be easy, but your actions have bought us a precious few weeks from what Tilo tells me. The goblins are in disarray, if we can take advantage of that, and break the back of the goblin's organization, we would be remiss in out oaths and duties not to do so." Kendra's expression is concerned, but there's an energy to her voice that's almost frightening. The rest of the council nods in agreement, all except Titus Scarnetti.
"This is preposterous! We are trusting our safety, nay, our lives to a band of hooligans and mercenaries. How do we know that they aren't in on this whole plot?!" The man, now beet red with bluster and fury screams into the mayor's face.
"And what would you have us do, boy?" The wizened old man asks softly, his voice cutting across the growing chatter and bringing silence to the chamber once more as the man stands, his age is apparent, but so is his mighty frame, clad in armor, a point most people failed to notice until now.
"Actions speak, something you seem to have forgotten, Titus. These heroes have risked their lives not once, but twice now to protect the people of this town. If Kendra wishes to ask them to ask them help protect our home, then we'd be fools not to support her."
Kendra places a hand on the man's arm, calming him somewhat.
"Thank you Councilor Valdemar," she says before turning to all of you. "If you help us, we will pay each of you 500 gold for clearing out the tunnels and another 2500 gold for taking Thistletop. You have already done much for us, and we could never repay that, but that doesn't mean I won't try. So, Heroes of Sandpoint, will you help us once more?"
Once everyone answers, we'll move on.
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel stands and raises her head, as if proud to be bestowed a title such as the Hero of Sandpoint. "I feel confident that I speak for the entirety of us councilors. We have full intention of clearing out these tunnels and taking care of the matters at Thistletop."
Asuriel gives a brief look around at her companions, searching for any signs of disagreement.
She presses on, "Your offer for payment of gold for services rendered is simply too generous. We are all invested into these matters and I'm certain we will proceed to defend our precious city and offer all protective services we can muster without that payment. Saving lives and furthering this wonderful town is payment enough."
Asuriel does not look at her companions his time, and quickly sits. She folds her hands in her lap patiently.
Olivius_Telraven
Olivius coughs as Asuriel voulenteers to give up the first decent job he's been offered in years. My lady, while Asuriel's faith and devotion to Sandpoint extend beyond measure, I am a simple man who feeds himself by such generosity as you have presented. I cannot turn you down and expect to remain profitable to you. I will, therefore, accept your offer with deepest thanks.
Horatio A Aldebrandt
"I assure you, Asuriel does not speak on behalf of us all. I find myself in agreement with Olivius - I cannot refuse such a generous payment. Singing for my supper grows tiresome." Still standing, the bard forces a wry smile, making a note to speak to Asuriel of this later.
Pavanna Alazario
Hearing Asuriel offhandedly spurn an offer of enough money to each of them to feed forty families for five years, Pavanna sets her teeth, closes her eyes, and quite deliberately counts to ten in Elven. And then in Infernal. And once again in Thassilonian. I do not count myself a greedy person, but that kind of wealth could do all manner of things to benefit this town and its people! And though you and I may have the largesse of a greater church to support us in our endeavours, Asuriel, not all of the others have such patrons!
“For my part, I have complete faith that the Inheritor, through her Temple in Magnimar and other agents, will provide for all my material needs so long as I remain a worthy servant of Her will. I will act in defence of Sandpoint without question of payment; I ask that you retain the ‘reward’ you offer to me and invest it in improving the town’s defences against a repeat of these events, and in providing for its less fortunate residents, such as those who lost family-members in the recent goblin raids. Of course, if anything is left after those projects are finished, I would not object if you considered adding a shrine to Iomedae to the Cathedral!” she adds, rolling her eyes and chuckling to make it clear that that’s (partly) a joke. I doubt even three thousand gold sails could accomplish all that.
“That said,” and now she shoots Asuriel a pointed look, “I have the luxury of that choice, because I know that my Temple and my Goddess will succor me if I find myself without other options. Not all of us are so fortunate, and so I cannot presume to speak for my companions, because as Olivius and Horatio have noted, high ideals alone do not fill an empty stomach.”
Noro Kas
Noro looks to the council, she is known to all of them, and she knows that the offer of reward money to her is not something they would take lightly.
I guessh you can take what I shtill owe in pasht finesh?
Noro looks to lou, take care of Amieko, I'll be fine. beshides I don't have dadd... well you know what I mean. she says to him a bit more hushed as it was meant for him.
Thirzin Bronzebeard
"I won't say nah, to a bit of coin. I agree with the lads, as they're in the same state as me. But we'll take on this threat."
Thirzin grins, standing with his fellows and gently patting Noro on the back, speaking quietly. "You'll do fine, lass. You're stronger than ya know."
Saroune Anzoletta
Saroune beams inwardly at the thought of being called a hero of anything, though she tries hard to keep her face serious. After years of her talents being downplayed and diminished by her family, it felt undeniably good to get some amount of recognition.
"I would see this to the end. I am not one to leave a job half-done."
Ping Ibbleting
"I'm more than happy to help, but as the others say, good intentions don't put food in your belly," Ping pipes up sheepishly. She understands where Asuriel's coming from, but when you're an unknown artist that's trying to make living, you don't turn down coin that could keep you in comfort for months on a whim, stereotypes not withstanding.

Nest post from me may not happen until tomorrow, depends on how long my IRL game goes.
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel watches as one by one each of her companions speaks about taking the offered money.
Well, apparently I was wrong. I suppose how fast Horatio piped up he will be making a mention of this to me afterwards.
Asuriel stands once more and speaks when an opening presents itself. "Apparently I have spoken out of turn. Father Zantus has often noted my extraordinary ability to place my entire foot in my mouth at the perfect opportunity. I apologize for wasting the council's time."
Asuriel shifts on her feet in place and goes to sit once more. She moves about halfway down, pauses, and stands again. "If I might make one more comment tonight."
Without waiting for permission she continues on immediately. "Since we are being rewarded so handsomely, I doubt we would be in need of any items of particular worth or value that we encounter during our upcoming tasks ahead of us. We are simply doing the work to protect our beloved town, not to hoard gold for personal gain. I recommend that since we are on official town business AND we are operating under the purview of official law enforcement personnel, those items should be donated to the town to help construct a memorial statue in memory of the late Tobyn's."
She raises her head proudly and speaks in a loud assured voice so all hear her clearly. "As the council is aware, the Tobyn's place of rest in the boneyard for the Tobyn's was recently defiled and desecrated. From all that Father Zantus has told of me of the late Father Tobyn, I believe that Sandpoint showing appreciation for him and his beautiful daughter that were tragically killed would go a long way to stand against those who would think of performing such acts in the future."
Asuriel finishes her statement and sits down once more, folding her hands in her lap. She looks over at Horatio and gives him a pleasing smile before turning back to the council.

Speaking of planting feet in mouths. >:D
A shocked hush falls on the townspeople. Father Zantus, Tilo, and Kendra all pale as a smirk is quickly banished from Titus Scarnetti's face. Shock soon gives way to anger and fear as the silence stretches on.
Then the dam breaks and the ensuing bedlam could probably be heard for miles as outraged Sandpointers hurl pointed questions and scathing insults at the council. The guard moves in an attempt to restore order as Tilo begins barking orders. Kendra slumps in her seat, her hands wearily rubbing her face. Father Zantus, meanwhile moves to Asuriel, Something very close to anger in his eyes as he glares at her.
Out of the pan and into the fire. Anyone doing anything besides sitting and gawking at how fast that deteriorated?
Olivius_Telraven
Ahh hells... Thirzin, Pavanna! Lets get them out of here! Olivius yells and motions in military hand signals over the chaos. He grabs Asuriel by the back of the neck and motions for Father Zantus to follow him. That hand then seizes her by the arm and he almost physically hauls the woman out of the hall. He gives any approaching bystander a fierce glare and doesn't let go of Asuriel until they're free of the crowd. If she attempts to say anything he orders her to "Shut up." until they are back at the Dragon.
Asuriel Arktaros
Asuriel's pleasant smile fades when for some strange reason people seem to react poorly to her suggestion.
What was it that I said wrong?
When Olivius roughly seizes her and yanks her the door she stumbles along in a daze, utterly confused as to what is happening.
"Wait, what is--"
Shut up.
Asuriel shakes her head, "No, wait. Let go of me!"
Asuriel struggles and tries to grab a hold of Olivius. "YOU LET GO OF ME THIS INSTANT OR I'LL--". Fighting against the restraint, she squirms and twists herself such that she puts tremendous pressure on Olivius's arms, hoping it forces him to let her free.
Escape Artist: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Holy crap!
Olivius_Telraven
Asuriel somehow manages to get leverage on Olivius and twists free.
"YOU LET GO OF ME THIS INSTANT OR I'LL--".
Or you'll what? Olivius throws up his arms in frustration. He pins her down with an icy stare and shouts, What could you possibly do or say to make this any worse besides get yourself killed by a rampaging mob! Now SHUT UP, and let me escort you to the Dragon or I will personally knock you the ^~`** out and CARRY you there in a most undignified manner!
Noro Kas
for once Noro was silent. she wasn't the cause of disarray. of course this time nobody was found beaten up, well at least not yet the thinks as Olives drags Asuriel out.
She looks to Lou, I gotta go. Noro heads out following the troublesome one but a at a short distance. apparently actually enjoying this, just a little.
Once they are left standing there arguing (probably in the middle of the street) Noro comes up stepping between the two.
Enough! you two are acting like...well, like me, and believe me, you don't want that. looking to olivius, beshidesh, if anyone ish gonna do any knocking out itsh gonna be me.
turning to Asuriel, What in the seven hellsh you thinking. can't you jusht.... Noro stops mid sentence, thinking for a bit. jusht stop it. She looks to Asuriel almost daring her to protest.
