The ghasts regret their rash decision to get take out food almost as much as the GM regrets allowing Brother Butterfly to buy a phylactery of positive channeling. As the dust settles, the Watchmen find themselves alone again in the street.

Paralyzed by ghastly touch, Fearless slowly topples over.

By the time Fearless has recovered mobility a trio of ghasts have ventured forth into the street ahead, their claws raised not to attack, but in a sign of parley.

”We apologize for those that attacked. Our hunger is sometimes overwhelming. We see you are powerful, and wonder if you can help us. We can reward you well.”

Brother’s first channel was more of a wet fart, but that second one was clog cleaner. Nice Catterfly.

Cats tilts his head away and puts up his hand to ward off Brother’s holy aura. He looks around after to see the fallen ghasts and nods his head.

”Oh yeah, that’s the catting stuff right there. Pure Catrenraen justice right there. Nice,” Cats offers, training his bow, but not firing at the approaching ghasts.

”We’re listening. Tell us what the cat is going on?” Cats asks, lowing his bow.

As the second group begins to approach Fearless slowly begins to twitch back awake. He groans in pain as he is finally able to move his body once again. "Argh! Do you know how painful it is to have all of your muscles that rigid for so long!" He grimaces at the new ghasts. "Unless you have a womp foot we're not much interested." He rises to his feet.


The ghasts look at one another before one answers. ”I don’t know what a womp is.. but our hunger is limitless, and I don’t think your powers are. If you continue to wander our city you will draw out more who cannot control themselves. At some point you will be overwhelmed by sheer numbers.” The ghast wipes it’s mouth, clearly restraining himself. ”We will lose many citizens. A fate I wish to avoid.”

”I am Kharesto, these others with me are Millahna, and Utrenk. We have a farm to feed our people, but it has been invaded by monsters we have been unable to defeat. Your power should easily drive them away. Do this and you will be honored guests, and untouchable.”

We are certainly powerful enough to drive away monsters, but we need more. We are not going to fight your battle and weaken ourselves to be your "farm". we need guarentees, and .... more.

You say that you do not know what a Womp is, but my dear friend Fearless here did lots of research. Womps may be the very source of your "being". Fearless - tell them what we are looking for.

”Well met Catresto. Meowahna. Utcat,” Cats lowers his bow and looks at the feet of the ghasts. ”Have you seen any red webbed feet around here?”

"Womps? maybe it was Wamps. Creatures with multiple legs and webbed feet." He does his best to explain the creatures. "Normally in cemeteries and necropolises"


At Fearless’ description the ghasts share a look with one another.

Utrenk speaks. ”Creatures such as that used to steal our crops, but they have also fallen prey to these new creatures that haunt the fields. You may find the remains of one there, or they may return eventually if you drive out the current threat.”

They seem to be answering honestly.

Brother butterfly would normally narrow his eyes, but not this time. He feels he has everything- including these ghasts pegged so perfectly, that he waves his arm and hand in the air in a non-challant gesture.

Well then! Our "Fearless" Leader has spoken.
BB laughs. He moves his right hand to his mustache and starts curling it. plotting.
How far are your crop fields? I want to make certain my fellow Watchmen are prepped. As a poor and humble supporting cast member, I'd be beside myself if I let Leader Fearless down. *Otherwise* Fearless might think I'm directing him towards an ambush; and I'm orchestrating all this as a masterful puppet-master.
B-U-T He can't be thinking that, as heading to the fields *was* his idea.

Cats nods with Captain Fearless's words and readies his bow.

"Let's cat on with this."


The ghasts through the ceramic city to a section that opens up into an enormous cemetery dotted with mausoleums, monuments, and headstones. The cemetery stretches for nearly a mile in every direction and is ringed by a tall iron fence.

”The creatures are in there.” The ghasts point at a section of the fence that is knocked inward, allowing access to the lumpy ground of the cemetery.

When asked what the creatures are, the ghasts shake their heads and say that no one has ever actually seen them. One ghast that survived said it seemed like the air itself had attacked one of his companions, slamming them into a pallid and broken corpse.

With no more to be learned, you enter the graveyard...

To prevent those ghasts from turning tables on us, I have a prayer where Desna can turn us invisible to them. We have done this a few times to calamitous results, because we are only unseen as long as you don't make any offensive actions. Yes everyone I travel with is always offensive. So, if we defeat this "cemetary problem", and the ghasts try swarming us, know that Desna will try to make us invisible.

Fearless runs ahead, ducking behind a tombstone next to Cats. "See anything?"

Cats and Fearless sneak forward to scout the graveyard. They see nothing living or undead, but they do spot a furry mound a short distance away, partially obscured by tombstones. As they close in they see that it is a strange abberation with mongrel parts that shouldn’t belong on a single creature. It has bat ears and a pig-like snout with sharp teeth in a mouth that opens like a Y. It’s round body is muscled strangely to support 7 limbs, all of which end in bloody stumps. It appears dead.

Cats looks on with his Cat's Eyes, detecting evil around the dead body.


Fearless rushes forward to inspect the creature and discovers a few things: first, this does indeed match descriptions of wamps he’s read in Lowls’ research, second, it appears to have been killed by tooth and claw, and third, every one of its hands and feet are missing and seem to have been hacked off.

Suddenly a whoosh breaks the air near Fearless, and something solid, but unseen, clobbers him!

...the sounds of breaking and snapping bones fill the air as he is crushed and bent in unnatural ways. His dream body is dead before it hits the ground.

Fearless:

As you “die” in the dreamlands a part of your broken mind cracks further...

You find yourself standing knee deep in still water a short distance from a sandy shore. A pair of hazy figures watch from a distance. The gleam of spectacles flashes on the face of one of them.

A voice calls out, echoing from a great distance. You strain to comprehend it, but the words are faint.

Something touches your leg and you glance down, noticing a strange reflection in the water. Not the familiar halfling face you know from mirrors, but the face of an aged elf. Somehow, you know this reflection is your true form, and that the halfling form you bear is somehow false.

Without warning you suddenly plunge down into the lake, something pulling you down, down, down into darkness...

You wake in the cabin of the boat, stiff and achy, the pain of phantom injuries still fresh in your mind. The other Watchmen sit nearby, eyes closed in the ritual sleep that takes them to the Dreamlands.

Something slips from your grasp and drops to the floor. A Harrow card - The Lost.

Shield other:
This spell wards the subject and creates a mystic connection between you and the subject so that some of its wounds are transferred to you. The subject gains a +1 deflection bonus to AC and a +1 resistance bonus on saves. Additionally, the subject takes only half damage from all wounds and attacks (including those dealt by special abilities) that deal hit point damage. The amount of damage not taken by the warded creature is taken by you. Forms of harm that do not involve hit points, such as charm effects, temporary ability damage, level draining, and death effects, are not affected. If the subject suffers a reduction of hit points from a lowered Constitution score, the reduction is not split with you because it is not hit point damage.
