Tamara's eyes sparkle as Barek speaks. She can't help but be enraptured by his voice. "A pathfinder eh? That's interesting. Traveling around the world to explore, discover new thins and resolve issues is a worthy pursuit. I wish I could amount to something as well. Offering my healing services keep people alive and well, but it doesn't actually help resolve problems or remove evil. What you do is admirable."

Tamara gets shocked and it's clearly visible on her face when she hears what the kids sing. "Speaking of evil... That's a horrible song. I wonder where they got it from. They must have gotten inspiration from somewhere, or worse... Evil spirits."

Those curious about the origins of the chant can make a Knowledge Local or Knowledge History check.

Sim raises an eyebrow after Tamara's comment about Barek being a pathfinder.

Should I tell her that since he did not completed his Confirmation, he isn't a full Pathfinder nor travelled around the world? No... I'll never put anything between a friend and an obviously interested girl! Sim smiles and decides to send Barek a message, to help him since he looks lost.

At Tamara's comment about evil spirits, Sim spits on the ground and then passes his hands quickly along his coat, like if cleaning imaginary dust of it.

"Indeed... what an odd song..."

Is there a meaning behind it?

Sim will try to memorize it. Do you need any check? Making an Int check just in case...

Sim you are not able to pin any of the facts to anything in your memory but you are able to commit the song to memory easily enough. Just be sure not to start singing it around the others lest they find you very disturbed and strange lol.

Exactly my thinking! But it's true, the little ones usually don't know what they are doing. Neverthless, I once let the 12 year old daughter of a witch we caught go free, thinking she was innocent, but we found her sacrificing her little brother in the woods a few months later in a dark ritual.

*shrug*

My mistake.

I'll allow it. Those of you who want to make knowledge religion checks may do so as well

Gwendolyn:

Gwendolyn the end of the song seems to trigger something in your mind. There were tales of a priest that was held in the prison outside of town, a man by the name of Father Charlatan. You remember that several churches demanded he be punished for his crimes against their parishes. He claimed to be a man of several faiths but in truth he was just a con artist using his "faith" to bilk the faithful out of money in payment for false miracles or cures. Hundreds of people fell victim to his schemes, all in the name of "faith".

LG Paladin 1; hp 16/16; Fort +4, Ref +0, Will +3; AC16 Map!

Gwen relays the story.

...You see, the bastard was the worst kind of evil: playing on peoples faith, hope and fears. In the end they put him in the Old Prison outside town. Though why the girls' song is so gruesome is beyond me.

Barek catches Sim's message and red rushes to his face, making his ruddy complexion darker. Surely he's mistaken?

Nonetheless he glances at Tamara tugging on his cuffs and entirely misses what is being spoken about. It is only when a new person enters his field of vision that he is brought back to the present.

Waiting for the man to finish Barek replies to him Good...er,well not good, day to you sir. My name is Barek and I will be helping carry the casket. Who might you be?

At Barek's question Kendra's face reddens with embarassment. "Oh right...introductions are in order...sorry slipped my mind. This is Councilman Vashian Hearthmont" she says gesturing to the rather fat man she was just talking to. "This is councilman Gharen Muricar" she says gesturing to another man who bows deeply at the introduction. His long black hair falls around his face as he bows. "I'm sure some of you are familiar with Zokar Elkarid, tavern keeper. And this is his 13 year old son Pervin."[b] She gestures to a middle aged man with faint beer belly, though compared to Hearthmont, hes the picture of health, and a lanky pimple faced teen. [b]"and last but certainly not least this is Jominda Fallenbridge who's elixirs are the only reason I've gotten any sleep the last few days...Jominda I'll be by sometime after the festivities and the reading of the will to pick up my next elixir...make it extra strong today has been a trying day and I don't think sleep will come easy." She then waves a hand at all of you "These are some of fathers dearest friends and he requested there presents here personally."

At that last part Councilman Hearthmont glowers a little. You all get the feeling he doesn't like "others" in HIS town.

Sam will bow to the councilman but it will be a shallow bow. Sam has learned through out the years that people in positions of athoraty are rarely worth the respect their position command's... Also he looked at them funny... Sam didn't like this man.

Hello, I'm Sam calinean. This is my brother sim.

Barek offers his own bow of respect, though his eyebrow quirks when he hears of Jominda's profession. Perhaps she has heard of something that would help with my curse.

It is nice to meet you all. As with the others I wish it were under better circumstances. He looks at Jominda before continuing Ms, Fallenbridge was it? Perhaps I could take a few moments of your time after the service? I have a question that I'm hoping you will be able to help me with.

Alas we can't always be at the right place at the right time. But I'm here now, and so we mourn. It's good to see so many gathered here to watch over his passing. He was a great man." Salright Sam. And Gwen you're fine. Just makes it feel like we're sitting at a table, which isn't a bad thing.

Barek gives Sam an awkward grin Aye. I'll let you know that I occasionally put my foot in my mouth. If you and our other compatriots would be kind enough to extract it once it gets there I would be very grateful. Wis 7 FTW baby!

Saying such he turns to Tamara, his heart lurching as he sees her tears. Thank you for speaking up for me. Barek gently wipes any tears that may have escaped with one gloved thumb.

Pervin snorts as Tamara expresses her wish she was there to heal him. "Nah lass healing wouldn't ha..." he's cut off by a very swift elbow to his ribs from his father. "Don't mind him...he doesn't think before he speaks miss.

Kendra steps up and with a very said look in her eyes lowers the vail over her face. [b]"Excuse me everyone but its time...for father to take his final voyage. Will all those assisting him in this voyage take your spots, Sam and Sim please take the first two spots."

Sam, Sim, Gwen and Barek take up posts carrying the body and Tamara you are not needed as Pervin and Jokar take up the final to spots. The body sags and rolls as you all lift and it takes you a moment to figure out the height differences and where the taller folk need to hold the casket so that Sim and Sam have it at shoulder length but you eventually find the right position.

Tamara feels comforted when Barek strokes away her tears and a slight smile. So kind... She is disturbed by the boy's words and tries to figure out what the son and father meant. Were they involved in Lorrimor's passing somehow? She doesn't comment on it as she wants to figure out what's going on first though.

As the others carry the casket Tamara takes position next to Kendra and holds her hand. "Let me comfort you what little I can."

Uuuugh wrong alias

OK... That was suspicious
Sam thinks to himself as the two people in front of him interact.

sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Tamara and Sam you sense nothing unusual from the man or the boy after their strange interaction. They take up the rear positions on the coffin and you start the slow march towards the Professors resting grounds. Kendra leans into Tamara a little and tries her best not to cry as you all walk along the Dreamwake(a gravel pathway that winds through the cemetary).

As the Procession reaches the halfway point along the Dreamwake you round a corner onto a path called the Eversleep. After another moment you see that the path has become blocked by a group of a dozen surly looking locals. The tallest of these men is an elderly but wiry retired soldier. He speaks out as soon as the group is noticed. "That’s far enough. We been talking, and we don’t want Lorrimor buried in the Restlands. You can take him upriver and bury him there if you want, but he ain’t goin’ in the ground here!”"

Kendra pulls away from Tamara quickly and marches up to the elderly man, barely restraining herself. "What are you talking about?" she shouts and then continues "I arranged it with Father Grimburrow. He’s waiting for us! The grave’s already been..."

The Elderly man interrupts her "You don’t get it, woman. We won’t have a necromancer buried in the same place as our kin. I suggest you move out while you still can. Folks are pretty upset about this right now."

You guys all have a chance to respond to these allegations if you wish. Roll me either diplomacy or intimidate checks with what you say. If you wish to skip the talking you may do so as well but if you are carrying the professor you are considered to have both your hands full and it is highly recommended you put the coffin down gently before dealing with this lot physically if it comes to that.

Map updated for everyone. There are about a dozen men but as we're not in combat I didn't find it relevent to put all dozen on there. The woman is Kendra and the old geezer is the soldier.

Halfling Cavalier1 | HP 12/12 | AC 19 T 12 FF 15 | Fort 4 Ref 3 Will 1 |

Sam looks at the old soldier with a shocked expression. Is this how these people treat there own? As far as I am aware this man had done no wrong to you, the fact you all would do this to a woman in grief disgusts me. I know little of magic, but I do know this... A girl is grieving over the biggest loss of her life... And you would stop her from burying her father...

diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Sam motions to the rest to set the coffin down.

If they do, he says.
If this isn't enough to move you... Then I will do it myself...

He will then point at the crowd. Specifically at the old soldier.

Once Tamara understand what the people wants she whispers a brief prayer of guidance. "Desna guide my words to resolve this situation." Tamara has a more gentle approach to the situation than the others. She doesn't get angry like Kendra. "Please, professor Lorrimor was a good man. He deserves a proper burial. We had many great discussions about the finer points of religion. I find it hard to believe that such a man was a necromancer. Surely you must be mistaken."

Barek slowly puts down the casket with the others and keeps his hands in the open for all to see. Deciding to play off his heritage a little he speaks Surely you have some proof for your allegations? So I ask that any who can provide solid evidence of necromancy come forward that it may be verified and your concerns eased , else let us be on our way.

The old man turns red faced with anger "Bah what do you outsiders know, you weren't here watching him do god knows what in his study all hours of the night.
