Special Abilities

Smite Evil Once per day as a swift action, Gwen can choose one target in sight to smite. If it’s evil, she adds her Charisma bonus to her attack rolls and paladin level to damage rolls against it. If it’s an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus on the damage roll on the first attack increases to 2 points per paladin level. The smite also bypasses the creature’s DR. Gwen also gains a deflection bonus to AC equal to her Charisma modifier against the target’s attacks. The smite lasts until the target is dead or Gwen rests and regains the use of this ability. If Gwen attempts to smite a nonevil creature, the smite is wasted.

Detect Evil As a standard action as often as she wants, Gwen can detect the presence of evil in a 60-foot cone.

Power Attack Before attacking, Gwen may choose to take a –1 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks until her next turn and gain a +3 bonus on melee damage rolls.

Armor Check Penalty Gwen’s armor weighs her down when she attempts physical tasks. She takes a –5 penalty on skill checks with Dexterity- and Strength-based skills. This penalty is lower than most characters would take because Gwen has the armor expert trait.

Aura Gwen has an aura of good equal to her paladin level. It can be detected with the detect good spell.

Code of Conduct If Gwen willingly commits an evil act, she loses all class features except proficiency.

Subject Of Study (campaign trait): Choose a non-humanoid creature type (and subtype if outsider). You gain a +1 bonus on damage rolls against creatures of this type. GHOSTS BABY!

Making good on Promises (campaign trait): You gain a +2 trait bonus on saves against fear effects.[/b]

DESCRIPTION
-------------------

1) I'd like 5+ points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five.:

1. Gwen's really not a serious girl and never ceases to attempt to crack a joke in every situation. But can a paladin ever really be funny? Mostly she just elicits *face palms* from her companions, haha!

2. But the serious stuff is this: Gwen's family has been locked in a blood feud with the Baron von Wolfsbane of Ustalov for generations. And the blood sucking vampiric fiend that he is, the Baron has succeeded in polishing off every last McBride. Except One!

3. One cool thing is that Gwen's Claymore is a great family Heirloom with fabulous magic powers. Well, at least that's Her father told her when she was a little girl. But she's long since outgrown such childish tales. The big red ruby in the pommel does seem to shine at times though...

4. Gwen's really not one for too much heavy armor and likes to bring a little lightfootedness into her fights! So she recently signed up for a Korvosian Ballroom Dance Class in Ravengro. I mean, why not? She thought.

5. Don't tell anyone, but Gwen really likes dusty old libraries. Not sure why, she just likes the way they smell. And every once in a while she'll find a nasty old occult book which she can burn! You can take the girl out of the paladin but can't take the paladin out of the girl!

2) Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game.:

1. Gwen takes a souvenir of every evil monster she kills. For her collection. She wants to collect them all!

2. Gwen loves ale and wants to try every kind there is. You would be surprised how often she will find a cask of old beer in the bowels of some dungeon...What a waste to leave it there!

3) Two secrets, one the PC keeps to herself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, in hopes of shocking surprises within the storytelling.:
1. When she was 17, in a rebellious act that would change her family forever, Gwen stole away to the Castle of Baron Wolfsbane! The Baron treated her as royalty. But when her father and brother came to get her, it became apparent what was happening. The Baron had them both flayed! Gwen barely escaped with her life.

2. Secret from the Character: Madness runs in Gwen's family and it's very likely she may suffer from some form of it in the future. These things are genetic you know!

4) 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five.:

Person 1: Gwen's mother, the Countess McBride, lives in a simple country estate outside Ravengro. Home sweet home.

Person 2: Gwen studied under Professor Lorrimor for three years at the university of Lipestadt. He opened her eyes to the wide world, it's history, culture, treasures, and dangers...and it's evils.

Person 3: Gwen takes a potion for her headaches that [fillInTheName] the owner of the local Apothocary brews up for her each week. Gwen has come to see the shop owner as a friend.

Person 4: ENEMY. ENEMY. ALERT. ALERT. If the Baron Von Wolfsbane gets within 5000 ft of her Gwen will go insane trying to kill that bastard!!!

5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission. Including Lorrimor in one of those might not be a bad idea.:

The class stared in disbelief at Professor Lorimor. He couldn't mean it. "But, my mother said violence never solves anything." Gwen's best friend Rhea said. "Is that so?" said the Professor looking at her bleakly. "I'm sure the demons of the worldwound would be glad to know that." He shouted at the room Violence has solved more
problems than any other force in history! You can't live entitled lives, people! A man drowning the Antarkos Ocean can claim a right to life but the water will kill him anyway.
The Professor always used that example, but for some reason, this time it struck Gwen. The Professor's philosophy lessons have shaped her more than anything else, and are the reason she decided to become a Paladin.

6) Finally, I'd like you to include with your submission a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic.:

Gwen's got a genuine case of Aquaphobia. At least, that's what the psychiatrist in Lipestadt diagnosed her with. She's afraid of drowning. Just afraid. Mabe this is why the Professor's philosophy lessons always stuck with her: that damn drowning in the Antarkos Ocean example he always used!
