Awesome! You dropped her and now it's legal and I feel better lol.

Seijiro, with a stunning display of reflexes, draws his dagger and plants it deep within the Matron's belly. Greenish blood spews forth as she collapses, the fiery light leaving her eyes dead as glass. Seeing the Matron fall, the three Sahuagin warriors attacking Dhaavan scream in rage. Their bellows reverberating throughout the cavern.

Ding dong the matrons dead, so now you all can go ahead!

As one of the Sahuagin begins screaming, Horatio manages to plug him straight through the mouth with a bullet, dropping him to the floor and stopping his scream...rather abruptly.

Hoo Rah!

Horatio glances to see his allies in the southern caves are okay - his eyes now flicking to Dhaavan -

"Oye - get your ass down here; things are about to get real ugly real fast..." he calls out to the sorcerer.

Seijiro, btw when you are healed the wound left significant scarring across your chest and you feel yourself getting winded slightly more easily than before.

Congratulations! You are the first one to get a Peg Legs and Eye Patches scar/wound! You can have it removed with a restoration spell however to remove the 1 Permanent Con damage you suffered. Don't worry however, Adular will be able to cast that as soon as you all level. Assuming you have 100 gp of diamond dust you can find ;-)

With 2 quick thrusts the Sahuagin queen impaled Variel both times leaving a lot of his blood mixing with the water swirling around him. Weakened and lightheaded by loss of blood Variel is still with it enough to see Dhaavan being attacked in the rear. With possibly his last breath Variel swims rapidly over to the beleaguered first mate to help him out.

Arriving in time Variel thrusts forward as he tries to add some acid to the attack with the trident hoping to end the combat so Adular can provide some much needed healing.

With the last enemy dropped, the GM did suggest we have time to gather around and pick up gear, heal and do what we can to get ourselves together. If you're able to toss another channel up, that might help, too. Failing that, the Wand of Cure Light Wounds can also be handy, too.

Rain had heard Variel speak of them dining out with Adular and his lady, Sandara, and the Besmaran priest's reply.

Rain turned her eyes from the watery surrounds long enough to see Adular use the healing wand to bring Variel and Jiro back from the brink ... The old, female Sahuagin was determined to end them -- to make them both her next meal. Rain was glad that the fish-woman had failed and that she now lay dead on the floor of the cavern.

Through the message spell, Rain spoke quietly and swiftly, before refocusing on surveying the area for new threat,

//"Good to see you both improved. Shall we proceed and finish this?"//

As the others collect gear and heal themselves Horatio takes a moment to reload his pistol as his eyes flick around the caves suspiciously.

The screams of the creatures have certainly drew attention, and given the size of the recent enemy they encountered he doubted highly that the creature was the least of their concerns.

While the others continue to jest, he spreads out his hands and feels the water around his fingers, trying to gauge the way the water was moving and what that might mean for its depth.

Rain Taneththir wrote:

He turns and nods at her.

"I'm with you Pilot-Major; after all, we're not out of this yet," he says, then turns to Dhaavan.

"Can you send your fish around that corner - see if there's anything else down there worth seeing real quick?" he asks the sorcerer about the cave that Jiro had started to explore a moment ago.

For now Horatio will simply go into a defensive stance, not sure if there are more threats to come, or from what direction.

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

Nice battle all! I hope it was as fun and tense for you as it was for me lol!

I opened up some areas on the map with the assumption that you would peek down them a bit before going. The descriptions of what you see are below.

D10 - This dismal chamber serves as the quarters for the almost three dozen noncombatant members of the tribe, old or young sahuagin that are little more than slaves for the warrior caste. They all seem week and malnourished and cower pitifully when you come in.

D11 - As you all saw, this chamber has the varied detritus of the Matron's many meals.

Perception DC 17:
Among the bones on the floor you find a string of tiny pearls. You will need an appraise check to figure out the exact value

D12 - This room swarms with sahuagin fingerlings and newly hatched sahuagin fry. The seaweed curtains in this room are thick enough to generally keep these hatchlings contained and prevent them from wandering loose through the lair where they would be at risk of predation by the other sahuagin, and the tribe’s Matron herself keeps an eye over them as well (though she is not above a snack now and again). These immature sahuagin are their own greatest threat, as the larger tend to feed on the smaller. The hatchlings in here range in size from newly hatched fry no larger a human’s thumb to fingerlings the size of a human toddler. Beyond the eastern seaweed curtain is a chamber with muddy walls to which thousands of marble-sized, milky eggs have been attached. There are hundreds of fingerlings in the larger chamber and hundreds of eggs in here, but most will not survive to adulthood.

D13 - These caves hold the tribe’s food stores. Currently, the larder holds a recently slain giant moray eel hung on an iron hook; the upper torso, arms, and head of a locathah. Stacked in one corner are seven locathah longspears, four light crossbows, and cases holding 47 bolts.

Perception DC 18:
You find a wand of blackened driftwood jumbled among the crossbow bolts in one of the cases.

D14 - The room is completely choked with seaweed from the dozens of beds that grow throughout the room from floor to ceiling. The entire room is
considered difficult terrain, and the seaweed provides concealment beyond 5 feet and total concealment beyond 10 feet.

Perception DC 21:
You find several nuggets of raw silver and gold ore worth approximately 400 gp.

Perception DC 24:
On a rotted hand that had been rolled up with seaweed like the Minkaian delicacy, sushi, is a ring with a design of a dolphin.

If you post that you are exploring, please only explore one room at a time so that everyone can have a chance of talking and finding stuff...unless you plan on splitting up that is .......muahahahah!

Okay, for now Horatio isn't really "exploring" any of the rooms on his own, he's just mainly peeking around the corners to give a quick update to the rest of the group while they heal. However, he's not move more than 30 feet from the group and he's not going into the rooms, just using Stealth to peek past the curtains carefully so as not to disturb what may be there - but only for the 2 rooms near the party.

I'm hoping this is okay - it's mainly to attempt to expedite the search of the two adjacent rooms as we have a lot of space to cover at this point. He's not too worried about D:10 as that's where the young fled to, so it's likely that they either swam off or even if they saw something that they're more scared of us than we are of them. I hope that's okay...

As Horatio waits for the others to divvy the loot and decide the next move, he takes a moment to scan the area more thoroughly, his pistol still loose in his hands.

He moves about 25 feet north to peak into the room slightly north of them carefully D:10, though he's not going in, just peeking in with Stealth) and slides the curtain aside, to see what may be in there being as Stealthy as possible -

Stealth Check -
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

His eyes narrow at what he sees, and he slides the curtain back silently and moves back to the others. Then, realizing the area that Jiro had explored is likely empty of threats as no one else poured out, he moves cautiously to peek around the corner to see what this foul "Matron" might be protecting...

This is to D:11 and again, he's just peeking around the corner. He assumes if there were any real threats there, they'd have already popped out during the fight.

Perception Check -

EDIT: Horatio will take the pearls for now, he'll report on them in a moment.

He does not advance to the next curtain as he waits for the others to finish healing, but something on the ground catches his eye and he picks it up cautiously - his pistol still ready - then moves back to the group to report what he saw thus far...

Moving carefully to Dhaavan, he whispers quietly to the sorcerer…

Behind the northern curtain is a bunch of broodlings and some elderly folk. They look like they’re naught but slaves of the strong. Now I don’t know much about this lot, but if they’re young and beaten, they may be impressionable. It’s possible that with a little courtesy and decent treatment they may be like ducklings and “imprint” themselves on a friendly parent-figure…

He looks at Dhaavan for a moment then shrugs.

Hell, you said you were maybe looking for backup? Well, if those younglings can be raised right, with a good hand and decent parenting, they might be a group that’d be loyal to you in the future. Just saying… he adds cautiously.

As he waits for Dhaavan’s reaction, he pulls out the pearl necklace and casts Detect Magic on it.

Not sure about the results of Detect Magic, but meanwhile –

I found these pearls just in the cave there where that boss-lady was. Anyhow, I figure we toss them in the pot for later, if they’re worth anything, that is…

Horatio will give the pearls to whoever is holding them for the Party Loot list later.

Horatio will continue to wait until the rest of the group is ready to move out, not wanting to formally move beyond 30 feet of the party.

As he waits, he turns to the others...

"The current's moving south and west... Likely that somewhere there is a deeper hole. Deeper hole means deeper water, and in the depths are likely more challenging things..." he says softly.

Anyone have a formal "Marching Order" at this point?

Horatio, those arrows denote slope of tunnels, not current. There is very little in the way of current in these caves. They are mostly stagnant. These pearls do not respond as magical, only valuable.

Hmm... but wouldn't a deeper tunnel encourage the water to flow down? Not too much, but enough that the water above us would sort of move in and down? Perhaps???

Listen - all I'm saying is that if my eyepatch came from a pirate named "One-Eyed Willie" that I'm going to use the movie via reference to solve this case, find the "loot" and (if I'm lucky) I'll also be able to put the whole Fratelli gang into the slammer for good :D

EDIT: For confirmation, check out Minute 33:32 on this clip Here (apologies it's in Italian - but you'll get the gist... ;)

Also, as I'm thinking of it, if you check out 1:15:05 you'll see a great place to hide the pearls!

As he waits for the others to acts, he pauses a moment and studies the non-magical pearls thoughtfully.

Hmm... but HOW valuable are they?

Not if you are below the water line. Above the water line yes, you would be correct if there was somewhere for the water to flow. In this case neither of those are true.

They are worth about 500 gp

First - Goonies never say "Die!" and second, does that mean that the slope is like a standard tunnel, only underwater? In other words, by using something like "Dungeoneering" can we do the usual things like "Determine Slope" or "Determine Depth Underground"? Or would the water compromise that?

As Horatio continues to wait, he whispers to the others -

"I reckon the pearls are worth about 500 GP, thereabouts... But we can give them a better once-over once we're out of here" at which point he hands them back to whoever is holding the party's "loot bag".

I think that person had a Handy Haversack, but I lost who that was.

Nope you can definitely do that sort of thing with determine depth and such.

As Horatio continues to wait, he makes a general guess about their depth and the tunnel that slopes into the deeper part of the caves -

Knowledge; Dungeoneering

Whatever he discovers, he'll share with the others.

Looking to Rain, I am good now. Just a bit of an ache inside but that will pass with a good night's sleep. i will be better once I get a chance to take you on that date though. Rum, wine and a beautiful woman will cure almost any ailment.

Realizing that they are limited int he amount of time they have underwater before their water breathing spell runs out Variel quickly confirs with the group. i am thinking that we do a quick peek in each area to get the layout and see if there are any further threats. If nothing is obvious then we move on. Once we have cleared the area then we can come back and do a more methodical search. We have the bottle of air if we need it at that point but I do not want to get caught in a combat and all of us relying on a single bottle of air to survive.

Variel does continue with Horatio quickly to provide some backup as she pokes his head in the seaweed curtains. If nothing is amiss or dangerous then Variel will cut the seaweed down to open up everything.

Seijiro slips the pearls into a side pocket on the haversack, and follows Variel to the next chamber, careful not to the be the first one to pass any seaweed curtains again.

He does seem to barely notice the wand in room D13 and casts detect magic on it to confirm whether there is any power left in it. Without spellcraft skill though, he has no clue what it might be if it is still magical, and will wait for others with the skill to determine it's use.

In room D14 he spots the raw nuggets on the floor and picks some up, storing them in the haversack after a quick attempt at appraisal. He's not so quick to put them away that others don't have a chance to appraise as well and to help gather them.

appraise nuggets: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

He does notice the ring on the rolled up hand, and with slightly wrinkled nose at the attempt to make sushi from a dead hand, he again casts detect magic, but waits for others with spellcraft to attempt the same if it is magical, if not, he attempts to appraise it.

appraise ring if not magical: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Sorry about putting it all in one post, but didn't want to miss a chance to post because today I'll be in and out... insert Seijiro's actions where they go in the order of things and if there are other actions required, I will TRY to post as needed...

Adular will let the stealthier of the group scout ahead for now, but he does stay close to the main body of his compatriots.

Right now, he's trying to keep track of how much time has passed since he cast those water breathing spells

With the fight over, the summoner fish peak through each seaweed door to draw any threats there before they vanish.

Dhaavan peaks into rooms bobbing along, somewhat disgusted by the creshes, he avoids entering too far himself, minding the little creatures though the blood of his does doesn't seem to phase him. He ticks to the entrance of D12.

I'm not sure how viable an ally these Sahaguin would really be at this point, not sure if my people or wife would take to kindly to the idea, but it's worth considering, if we let them live. Depends on what else we find here. But they're an unruly race and heir behavior is... Distasteful, he says, pointing out the butchered locathah

Dhaavan will cast Detect magic on the bolts when we get there, to see if any are magic.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

When we get to D14:

When they get to the seaweed room, Dhaavan looks around, following the others pulling himself along. Jack would love these shineys here,
When he sees the ring he picks up the hand and Detects magic,
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Cap'n, whatcha make of this lil'bobble? he asks showing Var then the others the ring, in case they recognize what it is.

The perception checks for D14 are separate so you need one for the dc 21 and one for the dc 24. Based on your rolls that would mean the D 24 would have been a 16 based on the d20's and the appraise for the nuggets would be a 29. Sorry but you can't do one check for everything in the room unless I have them both in the same spoiler.

That said, the ring has not been found yet until someone rolls a perception DC 24 for that room.
