Ishta Khosiv
The Burst of Radiance spell is cast at CL 6 due to Magic Tattoo, which nets a total of 17 for the SR-breaking roll. I don't think it makes any difference, though.
Finding herself in a bad position, menaced by one of the undead and in the way of her allies, Ishta decides to gain a better spot from where to help. Withdraw.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas spits a mouthful of blood at the cloaked figure. "HA! You won't drag me to Hell with you, scum!" He then strikes, hoping to catch the bastard off-guard as the blood might throw his vision off for a split second.
Full-round action: attack vs green (haste, arcane strike, prayer, bard song)

Zane Levallis
Zane pushed forward to occupy the spot Ishta had abandoned in case the enemies tried to squeeze through the gap, then attempted to wallop the nearest enemy (green) with his mace, feeling invigorated by Lathander's grace and Azarra's stirring voice.

Actually that does matter Ishta!
Statue Reflex DC 18: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 <--- FAIL
Azarra starts belting out a marching tune, old favorite that really puts a spring in your step!
Delenn wipers a spell and a quartet of miniature missiles lance out to strike the closest cloaked figure! After the volley it looks incredibly ragged, you can't imagine how it's still standing.
Magic Missiles: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 4) + 4 = 18
Zane surges forwards and lashes out with his mace. The cloaked figure manages to turn aside from his first blow but the second one smacked into it, smashing the nexus of unlife powering it. With a sound like punctured bellows it deflates leaving nothing but a ragged cloak on the floor and a cloud of rapidly dispersing red smoke!
Ser Armithia's sword flashes towards the cloaked figure behind the one that fell, but his stroke lacked conviction and the figure dances aside easily. You could have hit red or green, but blue retreated. You need to move if you wish to hit something next round in melee.
Ishta withdraws to make space while Kardas launches a blistering series of strikes. The first of which cuts deeply into the cloaked figure, but it somehow just manages to dodge his second cut by a hair's breadth! When Kardas saw the results of his cut, he felt like it ought to have been worse. It has some DR.
The figure responds with violence, silent and terrible. It lashes out with both claws seeking to rend Kardas' flesh. The Rashmiri manages to parry one claw but the other rakes his already bleeding flesh and draws him close enough for its strange maw to bit a chunk out of his left shoulder!
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 <--- HIT

The statue and the other cloaked figure blunder round the room, knocking into things as if they couldn't see what they where doing!

Azarra
Azarra can't see any other enemies from where she is, and doesn't want to get in the way of the close-quarters fighting, so she just continues to inspire courage.
+2 to saving throws against charm and fear effects and +2 on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Also, just as a warning, I only have one round of bardic performance left, so next round is the last one.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
The Paladin steps up to Red.

Zane Levallis
As the enemies retreated and the open fighting space grew more narrow, Zane swallowed a bit of pride and realized Ser Armithia and Kardas were best suited for the up close and personal work that needed to be done. Calling upon the Morninglord, Zane reached out and touched the Rashemi man's shoulders to impart a bit of divine protection on his person.
Cast Shield of Faith on Kardas
DM Fang Dragon
Azarra continues to belt out her marching tune, although some how you can tell she's stating to flag and won't be able to keep it up for much longer.
Delenn could just about see the cloaked figure Kardas was fighting. She whispered a word and extended her hand and another fusillade of miniature missiles pulsed out to detonate all over the undead!
Magic Missiles: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2) + 4 = 13
Zane prayed for Lathandar's blessing to protect Kardas from blows. His prayer was answered by an almost invisible shield that surrounded the young Rashmiri.
Ser Armithia advances and delivers Helm's stern judgment upon the cloaked figure, decapitating it. As before red smoke billowed everywhere before dispersing, leaving nothing but a mangled cape on the floor!

Yes it's dead, I forgot to update the map.
kardas's blade slams into the statue sending sparks and stone chips flying! A shock from the impact resonates up his arm and his blade rings like a struck gong.
Going to give Ishta a chance to post before botting.
Ishta Khosiv
Ishta follows the rest and takes position in the corner, from where she thinks she's not in the way. Chanting arcane words, she sents some projectiles similar to Delenn's at the statue.

The Paladin steps up to the Statue. The Paladin calls upon Helm.

Zane Levallis
Zane continued to stand a few feet back from Kardas and Ser Armithia, allowing them room to maneuver and retreat, if need be. He chanted a short supplication to Lathander, a ghostly-looking mace appearing next to the statue before it swung at the enemy.
Spiritual Weapon attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Spiritual Weapon 1/5
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas calls upon the magic within him only to realize he has no spells that can deal with a moving statue. Surely it isn't affected by energy-draining necromantics and unlike a human or orc, it won't stop attacking when flailing about in a pool of magical grease. And so he strikes twice with the same blow thanks to Delenn's enchantment of haste, his silhouette a blur as the blade rings and clangs on the statue's unforgiving skin.
Full-round action: attack (haste, arcane strike, prayer, bard song)

Azarra's voice becomes a little strained, and she stops singing. She moves south and quietly heals Ishta in the midst of the battle.
CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
DM Fang Dragon
Azarra stops singing and instead huskily whispers a healing charm which lightly touches upon Ishta providing instant and powerful relief from her wounds.
Delenn standing just behind Zane summons another volley of missiles, this time aimed at the statue. It seems Delenn's luck was better than Ishta's because her missiles managed to broach the statue's protection, explosively knocking chips off it!
Magic Missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 1) + 4 = 15
SR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Zane's fervent prayer is answered by a spectral mace which slams into the statue's head sending a chip flying from a carved ear. Yet given the energy behind the blow and the precision, the resulting damage is underwhelming.
Ser Armithia called upon Helm's stern judgement which found the statue wanting. With a flash his bastard sword descended upon the statue. It bit a handspan into it's head, leaving a hair line crack.
I subtracted 2 dmg due to bard song ending.
I guess I'll bot Ishta
Ishta repeated her spell, hoping to bypass it's defenses but once again it fizzled!
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) + 3 + 3 = 11
SR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 <--- FAIL
Still there was a hair line crack resulting from the blow which, in an amazing feat of precision, Kardas managed to smash his sword onto. His sword rung as it bit into the statue, widening the crack and sending a cloud of dust and chips flying. Even more remarkably Kardas's second swing struck the exact same spot opening the crack even more, which had spread down from the statue's head to it's navel. Clearly very little was holding the statue together!
[ooc]I subtracted 4 dmg due to bard song ending.
Despite the gaping wound, the statue's sword was still deadly! It flicked out twice as it bit deeply into Kardas sending a spray of blood onto the walls! A pair of deep cuts added to the still bleeding lacerations from the cloaked undead. Their blindness has ended.
Scimitar, power attack: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 2 = 27Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 4 = 15 <--- HIT

The other cloaked figure screeched when Ser Armithia invoked the wrath of Helm, and in a frenzy it launched itself at the armored knight and bounced off!

Magic Missile is an Evocation spell, right? So, CL 6 also, sorry xD Also, sorry, been a crazy weekend with the preparations for my in-laws' 40 years anniversary.
EDIT: I don't remember being damaged recently, Azarra, but never trust my memory...
As Ishta's spells seem to do nothing to the statue, she adopts another strategy. Stepping forward, she touches Ser Armithia's shoulder from behind. "May strength and power help you, brave friend" she mutters.
Touch of Rage, +2 to hit, dmg and will saves for 1 round
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas assumes a defensive stance and barks out an ancient Nar word of protection. In a flash, an opaque sheen positions itself between the swordmage and the scimitar-wielding statue.
Concentration vs DC 17: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Std action: cast Shield.
Current AC: 23 (my tired mind must've screwed up before, because with haste, his AC is 19 - had a long weekend ;x)
Azarra
Your character on the map was down by exactly the amount I healed you for... I was going off of that. If you were fine, I can heal someone else. :)
DM Fang Dragon
Actually that does matter Ishta!
Ishta's magic missiles slam into the crack, pummeling the thin bridge of stone holding the statue's torso together into powder! The remaining bits of the statue fall lifelessly to the floor.
And then the party corner and murder the remaining cloaked figure!
Hand waving the rest of the combat, that aoe blindness really did a number on them.
The statue's scimitar seems to be of exceptional craftsmanship, although it doesn't bear any enchantment. There is however a chest in one corner of the room which sports a heavy padlock. The key however is no where to be found.
Azarra
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
[b]Uh, this padlock is going to explode without the proper key... search the bodies. One of them has to have it.
Azarra helps to search, and they take the scimitar with them Anyone want it as a weapon?
Zane Levallis
Zane moved into the room with the others as the warriors and wizards brought down the ginormous statue and then disposed of the remaining enemy. Kardas still had seen better days, so the priest stepped forward to provide Lathander's contribution to the group, the Rashemi man's injuries knitting together under the healing energy.
Cure Serious Wounds (burning Protection from Energy): 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 6, 1) + 5 = 19
The priest then set about helping to search for the key needed to open the chest without explosions occurring, knowing the half-elf's eyes were far more keen but doing his best to help.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

The Paladin offers Kardas the Wand.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Idk, could have been that I forgot to record the wounds. I post from the cell phone quite often, and it doesn't let me edit the alias.
Ishta wipes the sweat from her brow when the statue finally breaks and collapses. She quickly interests herself on Kardas' health, and any others, then when Zane takes care of it she asks Delenn about the statue. "Was this some kind of guardian? What was it guarding?"
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Use landscape for editing on phone; it's how I post...lol.
DM Fang Dragon
I forgot to say the DC to disable the runes is DC 28.
There is a cover note:
Dear Sirs,
I found this tome, The Book of Eyes, cunningly hidden within a crypt hidden inside the pyramid by the river to the north. At fist it was a boon. A blessing, bountiful of the knowledge of Mystra and Ohgma. I could see further and with more clarity than I ever had before. Forgotten art was revealed to me, whispers by the book.
It showed me so many things. Things of beauty. Things of horror. Things that must not be named. At first I was the master, I could always close it and the images would end. It seemed worth it for the art contained within. But by increments I couldn't put it down. My every waking thought was consumed by the book and it became precious to me. I became so very fearful it would be stolen, and constructed guardians at a terrible price.
The visions grew worse and I grew fey and wild. I loved and hated it, and my body suffered as I neglected it. At last I could stand it no more, but it wouldn't let go. Not until I plucked out my eyes and added them to it's collection. Then it was content. My man servant Idris has written my dictation, alas divine succor is denied me and my eyes will not regrow.
I can't bear to destroy the book, but I hate it and it must be locked away lest it ruin somebody else. I have sent guardian servitors to watch over it, they will obey anyone with the sign of Oghma. I trust your digression in this matter.
Dillon P.
Kn: History DC 24 Dillon Percival was a hedge wizard who grew to sudden prominence about about 150 years ago before suddenly retiring at an early age suffering some unspecified malady.
Let me know if you intend to examine the tome...
Azarra
Err, you guys, I might be able to disable this if I do it absolutely perfectly, but the chances of that are low. Shall we get out of range of the explosion and I can have an unseen servant set it off on purpose? ... or does anyone have a better idea? I could try it, but, um, I don't know if the explosion will kill me.
Zane Levallis
Not having a better idea to open the chest, but loathe to expose any of the group to a possibly fatal explosion, Zane nodded, "The unseen servant seems the best choice, yes. If that doesn't trip the trap, then maybe we just cart it along, if that's safe enough? If you're sure it's fire that will spew out of the thing, the Morninglord can grant me a blessing to guard against flame in the morning, if He is willing."
Ser Armithia-Seendren
The Paladin backs away to a safer distance.
Ishta Khosiv
"We don't know how strong the spell is, Zane. I rather you don't risk yourself."
Ishta goes away to find some cover.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas groans when Zane knits his flesh back together using Lathander's blessing. "We could also carry the chest out of here and make it someone else's problem, but sure, why not give the unseen servant a try. I'd much rather we avoid any explosions - what's inside could be damaged by it."
Azarra
Err, well that's the thing. The unseen servant would cause the explosion on purpose... so we could then open it.
Ishta Khosiv
"Kardas is right, we could hire someone to open it for us" Ishta exclaims from far away.
DM Fang Dragon
Just waiting to see if there's a consensus on what to do :)
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Better we wait. Let's continue.
Kardas Rasalas
I'm fine with the unseen servant giving it a go, but since there's no pressure to get it done *now*, we might as well wait and figure it out later? After all, Zane and Ishta could memorize Dispel Magic in days to come and see if they can knock the magic off the lock?
Azarra
Okay, we wait.
They bring the chest with them as they continue.
Zane Levallis
The decision made to hold off, for now, on opening the chest, Zane started following the others to their next destination, each door and hallway cleared one step closer to the surface and sunlight.
DM Fang Dragon
The chest weighs about five hundred pounds (it's mostly constructed of wrought iron). How do you plan to transport it? Also if you're exploring elsewhere, which direction do you try?
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas gives lifting the chest a go but gives up before he's even halfway done trying. "I'm sorry, but the weight of this monstrosity is beyond me."
That changes things. Let's leave it behind for now and after we've secured the floor, come back to it?
Ishta Khosiv
"Yes, let's come back for it later."
Sorry but I can't see the map properly from here. Anyway, since we plan on discovering everything, any direction would do for Ishta.
Azarra
Um... okay.
Is the room to the west where we just fought those guys all the way cleared out? Was there a door along the hallway we came from to the east? If everything we've passed is clear, then it looks like if we go to the north and then turn west there is something, or else some weird blue door to the north past the intersection. West first?
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia chuckles.
Point me the way.
Ishta Khosiv
Ishta suggests that, since this part of the floor appears to be divided into 4 quarters, they finish discovering the current quarter - that is, south-west. Then do the other quarters clock-wise (I hope we know what's a clock) and follow by investigating the zone at the south of the statue.
Zane Levallis
Water clocks are super pricy, but they exist, so I would imagine so.
Ishta's suggestion being as good as any other, and with the chest being unbelievably heavy, Zane started off towards their destination behind the gold elf, the priest's keen eyes looking about for enemies as they continued to sweep the Library.
