DM Carbide |
Assuming that Cora shoots the one closest to Machi-e.
Round 2 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Machi-e-acted
Cora-acted
Water elementals-acted
Gallius
Nezos
Cora hits but does not quite drop the elemental closest to her. Both of the remaining elementals emerge onto dry land and try to take down Nezos, but the half-elf easily blocks or dodges their attacks.
Nezos and Gallius are up!
Water Elementals: AC 17 T 11 FF 16 HP taken - Teal: dead Blue: 29 Green: 0; -3 DEX
DM Carbide |
Oops, you're right. It was Blue.
HP taken: Green 0
Nezos finishes off the wounded elemental and sidesteps to open a clear attack path for Cora.
Nezos attack on Teal: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Nezos damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (3) = 15
Round 3:
Machi-e and Cora can act!
Machi-e |
Machi-e evokes a blob of acid and tosses it at the elemental.
Prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Ranged touch, into melee: 1d20 ⇒ 4
for: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The blob goes awry, though.
Cora Soutil |
Cora sends a pair of arrows at the last remaining elemental (Green).
Rapid Shot 1+AP: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 1 = 22
Dmg, if any: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8
Rapid Shot 2+AP: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Dmg, if any: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
HP tracking for myself: -15 +11

Round 3 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Machi-e-acted
Cora-acted
Water elemental-acted
Gallius
Nezos
One of Cora's arrows hits. The elemental goes after Nezos, but the half-elf deflects the blow with his shield.
Gallius and Nezos to go!
Water Elementals: AC 17 T 11 FF 16 HP taken - Teal: dead Blue: dead Green: 8; -3 DEX
DM Carbide |
Unaccustomed to combat, Gallius misses the elemental despite its clumsiness.
Someone want to roll Nezos' attack?
DM Carbide |
Nezos is also unable to connect.
Round 4:
Machi-e and Cora can act!
Machi-e |
Machi-e hurls acid at the elemental.
Acid Splash, into Melee: 1d20 ⇒ 7
And misses broadly.
Cora Soutil |
Cora shifts her aim to the last remaining elemental.
Rapid Shot 1+AP: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 = 13
Dmg, if any: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8
Rapid Shot 2+AP: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Dmg, if any: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
DM Carbide |
Round 4 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Machi-e-acted
Cora-acted
Water elemental-acted
Gallius
Nezos
Only one of Cora's arrows hits. The elemental again tries to slam Nezos, and misses yet again. The half-elf, though, does not. In a cloud of steam, the final creature discorporates.
Nezos vs. Elemental: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 2 = 20
Nezos damage: 1d10 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 6 + (6) = 20
Out of combat! I recommend you return to the main floor and rest the night, and then level up to 6th!
Machi-e |
"Continually reevaluating my place in the arcane world outside of a library, but otherwise unblemished," says Machi-e, dusting himself off.
DM Carbide |
Azmur isn't around, but with the deaths of Aeteperax's other lieutenants the party is undisturbed through the night.
Where do you want to go now? There's a mummy whose defeat would probably not be a bad thing, or you could return to the lower level. (I recommend the mummy.
Gallius Disquero |
The mummy sounds like a plan. We're rested and leveled up. I will say, I've been really dealing with forum fatigue over the past few weeks, so I apologize for the delays.
DM Carbide |
The party prepares to once again attack the unreasonable and dogmatic Iroran mummy.
What spells do you want to have up going in?
Cora Soutil |
If we've got unlimited prep time (under a minute, though, when I think about how long a round is), Cora will do Bless on the group, Divine Favor on self, Barkskin on self, and Weapon of Awe on self. Might as well throw Guidance on everybody, too, for their first attack roll of the fight.
DM Carbide |
Is Gallius doing anything to prepare?
DM Carbide |
The mummy isn't evil; he's an unreasonable jerk, but there is unfortunately no protection from unreasonable jerk spell (although protection from law would work in this case).
Gallius Disquero |
If Gallius would have reason to believe that, I won't cast it. But otherwise I think it would make sense for him to use it, right? I don't want to metagame.
DM Carbide |
See the post HERE, where Cora had some clue as to typical Iroran mummy alignment.
DM Carbide |
With some trepidation, the party gathers at the base of the ladder and readies for the fight. When the first one up the ladder reaches the room, the mummy is likewise ready, looking distressingly recovered from the previous fight. "Ah. You have returned. Are you prepared?"
Round 1 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Kanjougas
Cora
Machi-e/Elemental
Nezos
Gallius
Even though the party is set, the monk's lethal speed is unexpected. He launches himself across the room and punches Nezos before the fighter can get his shield up. Take 14 HP, and DC 15 Fort save or stunned.
Everyone can act!
Nezos Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Cora Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Gallius Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Kanjougas Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Punch: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
Punch damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Kanjougas: AC 26 T 16 FF 24 HP taken: 0
Machi-e |
Machi-e shoots his shot...
Crossbow, True Strike: 1d20 + 5 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 20 = 33
for: 1d8 ⇒ 5
The elemental slams towards the mummy.
Slam, Touching Ground: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
for: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Cora Soutil |
Nezos Fort save, DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Cora tracks the mummy as it streaks across the room, firing a single arrow as it stops to attack Nezos.
Move action to Study Target
Deadly Aim+Point Blank Shot+Studied Target+Bless+Divine Favor+Guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 32
DA+PBS+ST+DF+Weapon of Awe: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 18
Nezos raises his shield to ward off any further blows and strikes back with his flaming sword.
AC with Combat Expertise and Bless is 25. HP is 26/40.
+1 Flaming Bastard Sword-Combat Expertise+Guidance: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + (1) + 6 = 8
Gallius Disquero |
"Don't die on us, Nezos."
Gallius will fire off a channel ray at the mummy.
Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1) = 6
The mummy gets to make a DC 17 Will save for half.
DM Carbide |
Cora looses a single arrow at the mummy, who knocks it out of the air. He's unable to block Machi-e's followup crossbow bolt, which hits...and bounces off his cerements without penetrating. Nezos is unable to hit the agile undead, who also evades the elemental's attack. His mental discipline allows him to resist some of the effects of the channel.
Round 2 (ongoing):
The mummy shatters the elemental into gravel with a single powerful blow, but is left sufficiently off-balance from the unexpected lack of resistance that both of his followup attacks on Nezos are easily dodged or blocked.
Party up!
FOB PA; starting with elemental and switching to Nezos: 3d20 ⇒ (13, 6, 10) = 29
First attack damage: 1d8 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Machi-e |
Machi-e burns some of his arcane pool to make his spells more difficult, and expectorates sticky goo at the mummy.
Adhesive Spittle, DC20, or be Entangled.
DM Carbide |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
That spell automatically entangles its target; the save is to keep from being stuck to the floor.
Round 2 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Kanjougas-acted
Cora
Machi-e-acted
Nezos
Gallius
The monk is unable to avoid being stuck to the floor by Machi-e's spell. "Clever. Now we shall see if you can capitalize on your success."
Cora, Nezos, and Gallius to go!
2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Kanjougas: AC 26 T 16 FF 24 HP taken: 3
Cora Soutil |
Cora fires a pair of arrows at the mummy in quick succession.
Rapid Shot 1+Point Blank Shot+Studied Target+Bless+Divine Favor: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 29
PBS+ST+DF+WoA: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 19
Rapid Shot 2+Point Blank Shot+Studied Target+Bless+Divine Favor: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 34
PBS+ST+DF+WoA: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 19
Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 24
PBS+ST+DF+WoA: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 15
Nezos continues to try to hit the creature with his flaming sword.
+1 Flaming Bastard Sword-Combat Expertise: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 2 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + (4) + 6 = 14
DM Carbide |
Cora would normally act before Machi-e, but given the party's planning it's reasonable that she'd delay until Machi-e had cast his spell. That makes the second arrow confirm; longbows are, IIRC, x3 weapons, so I'll use the damage roll from the first arrow.
Despite being stuck in place, Kanjougas dodges Nezos' blow and blocks Cora's first arrow. The inquisitor times her second arrow perfectly, though, and takes the mummy in the throat. He nods in appreciation as he pulls the arrow out. "Well shot." Once again, though, he's able to resist Gallius' positive energy.
Round 3 (ongoing):
The monk tears his feet free of the adhesive mass.
Everyone can act!
1d20 ⇒ 17
HP taken: 57
Machi-e |
Oops, forgot to roll duration. Or does breaking free from the floor mean that the mummy is no longer entangled as well?
Machi-e takes the time to cast True Strike again.
DM Carbide |
He's still entangled, but now he can move.
Cora Soutil |
Cora continues shooting as fast as she can put arrows to her string.
Rapid Shot 1+Point Blank Shot+Studied Target+Bless+Divine Favor: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 17
PBS+ST+DF+WoA: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 15
Rapid Shot 2+Point Blank Shot+Studied Target+Bless+Divine Favor: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 22
PBS+ST+DF+WoA: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 12
Nezos tries to hit the ridiculously agile monster.
+1 Flaming Bastard Sword-Combat Expertise: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 2 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + (4) + 6 = 15
DM Carbide |
Even entangled, the mummy avoids both of Cora's arrows. However, the sticky strands slow him sufficiently that Nezos can tag him. He seems to take more damage from the flames around the half-elf's blade than a normal target would.
Gallius?
