Jeva sees the way Bulgard is looking at her. Still chewing on hard tack she goes to Rhen. "You are nice and cute and short like me. I like you. I don't the like the way that man looks. Is he bad?"

"Sadly, s-s-some people would say I am a bad man. Never been good with w-w-words and folks generally don't like me. That's why I stick to myself and spend all my time in the forests with the likes of Dr. Fox here. Where are you f-f-from, little lass?"

"Not mad lass, just a wee bit touched. He is friendly and he is helpful." Rhen puts himself between Jeva and Bulgard, nodding at the man.

Jeva wraps her arms around Rhen from behind, looks up at him and smiles. She leans her head out to address Bulgard. "I'm sorry no one likes you. I am from Elara's house. That is my home."

"I'm truly s-s-saddened by the l-loss you've suffered. I lost my parents when I was barely old enough to remember them. My Uncle took me in as one of his own, but I lost that family during an Orc raid. I know the p-pain of l-loss, child. I swear to you, I will avenge your pain.

Bulgard reaches down and picks up Dr. Fox, who snuggles warmly in his arms. He ruffles its red ears and in return he receives licks to the face.

"I was basically raised by a-a-animals like this. Would you like to pet Dr. Fox? There is no better cure for a heartache than the unconditional love of a furry companion."

Bulgard hands Jeva some dried beef from his pack.

"Here, give him a piece of this and he'll love you for all your days"

Dr. Fox is not into this game. He shows no interest in the dried beef. He seems somewhat agitated.

"Oh, thank you big man, you may be nice after all. I'm sorry for letting you scare me. Dr. Fox is cute but he scares me." She tosses the dried beef to Dr. Fox.

"I've found that the only w-way to stop being afraid is to acknowledge your fears, bring light to them, and let ole Bulgard slay them for you! Can you tell me, why does Dr. Fox scare you, little Jeva?

"He just scares me. Might bite." She stays behind Rhen and hangs on to him.

"Seems the kids from here don't get the basic combat training, no way i'd be scared at a fox when i was her age...", Reinar mutters to himself. Turning to the group. "I don't feel tired, i can take a watch."

"Jeva, I bet Miss E.... El-..Elara would have loved Dr. Fox, don't you think? Can you tell me all about her?"

"She was great. Always did what was best for us kids no matter how much it hurt...” She lets her ragged clothing hang off one shoulder to reveal the horrible scars left by Elara’s ministrations.

"So Lass were you there when the fire started? Can ye tell us who started it?"

"No sir, I was not there when it started. I got back when all I could see was a big fire and I could hear all my friends screaming. Then it got real quite except for the fire and I ran away."

"L-little one, I fear that the path we are taking is not fit for a young lady as n-nice as you are, but we cannot turn back now. If my c-companions will allow it, you must travel with us. I won't let anyone hurt you again. Not elara, nor the vile ones who assaulted her.

I am curious, though. Did she ever have any odd "friends" visit? Or did you notice anything out of the ordinary with her or the other children recently?"

"Thank you for not letting anyone hurt me, sir. No one ever visited us. Everything was fine until the fire." She tries to fight back the tears as she recalls the fire.

"Why don't you just s-sit down a while and let us get s fire going and cook you up some s-supper?

Bulgard motions for his companions to join him out of ear's reach of Jeva.

" Elara's cellar was locked from the OUTSIDE. It seems to me that she was k-k-killed, her body thrown down into that damn torture dungeon and the whole place set ablaze. Serves her right, I s'pose. Hard to I-imagine it was anyone but her torturing them kids.

Now, we've been duped by kobold traps before. They like to use live bait. Keep your eyes and ears open. We will be ambushed before we reach the end of the trail."

Jeva plays with her doll and softly hums a tune waiting for dinner. The hard tack is doing its job.

Zevon gives the ranger a quizzical look, then shakes his head surprised at his sudden insight.

I... agree. One can assume that the children perished in the blaze. Also there WAS some sort of sabotage to Elara, I noticed that she was missing a ring. Whoever locked her there no doubt took it. I have one final method to ensure the child is not hiding anything. While I am sure she is as innocent as she appears,
Kobold traps cannot be underestimated.

Zevon makes a sonarrow sound as he pings for magical auras.

Detect Magic in Jeva's direction

Detect magic returns nothing.

"Should we give her a weapon? Just in case..."

"She be more likely ta be hurtin' herself or one o' us, then anything else." Rhen bites into his own Tack.

"Do ye have a place ta be hindin' little one?"

"Yes, sir I do. I made a place."

In that case, although I am loathe to say so, it may be better for you to return there in the morning. We can provide you with food and directs back to town. If you choose to return, make your way to the Temple of Iomedae and ask for Lady Cirthana. Tell her we sent you and you will be taken care of. If we do not pursue these dragon men, even more children will be in danger. I suggest we all rest now, there is no telling what tomorrow will hold.

Hearing her dismissal, Jeva is visibly upset. She says to the group "Elara said that town is a bad place for little girls. She said Kabran Bloodeye will take us a rent us to men for very bad things. I cannot go to town. Please let me come with you. I like him (pointing at Rhen) and he will keep me safe (pointing at Bulgard). I won't be any trouble I promise."

I am sure you will not, but we are currently in search of trouble. That is an inevitably. You would be in grave danger if you were to accompany us. The town was only a suggestion. You are welcome to return to your hidden spot and await our return.

"Fine!" She sits down beside the fire and begins to scold her doll telling it how bad it is and how nobody likes it.

Bulgard whispers to the fox, who scampers to the campsite perimeter and begins circling it, obeying his charge to watch over the camp.

Bulgard then lays out his bedroll and is snoring within seconds.

During Zevon's watch, Jeva takes 10 on her Control Shape check and changes into a hybrid form of werewolf.

She lines up for a charge.

Zevon shouts an alarm to the party and takes a 5' step back, out if the creature's reach. His shout crescendos as the sound blasts the werewolf-girl.

Rhen rolls over, looking at the femanine form of a wolf, recognizing the clothes as Jeva he draws his sword.

"Lass what is wrong? Why ye be doing this."

bulgard hears the commotion and is on his feet in the blink of an eye. He draws his bow knocks an arrow and thinks better of it. He reaches down and draws his greatsword from beside his bedroll.

"Ok boys, let's see if we can kn-knock her lights out but no mortal wounds!"

Easy Rhen and Bulgard. Both of you please try again.

Rhen awakens to the shouting, realizing what is happening he stands up and moves in the way of Zevon and Jeva.

Actually, Bulgard's move is good enough. Stand, draw sword. I will let that stand.

Jeva shakes her head as she is dazed just looking at Rhen.

As Jeva comes out of her daze, for a split second she recognizes the face of the short, cute man that was so kind to her and gave her food. For a split second, Rhen sees the snarl go away as the two make eye contact.
