Max is slowly loosing his mind. At this point in his advancement, he is simply religious and trying to be a leader, unaware that his intelligence and charisma are not up to the challenge. As he levels up, his celestial blood will alter him (sorcerer levels), but mislead him into thinking his god has called upon him. So he thinks he is a cleric, fire and brimstone type, but in reality is just experiencing dementia.
