ok all will post a quick timeline summary (no dates) in discussion, to help clarify some points. this information is easily available by asking either Adrian, or the Master of Gales, or even going into town to talk more with the old woman
Sarosha

the next day after Amellia vanished, a woman and her two brothers arrived at the manor, they never left.
Have we met these people?

No, none of the servvents seem to know who you are talking about either
Sarosha

Sarosha finds Adrian and queries of him,
Captain Lore, it troubles me that the disappearance of Lady NeMoren was never solved. What can you tell us of this poor woman?
| Abedezar Mavashti |
"Ahhh, some real riches for us. Well, let's be at it."
| Devana |

Captain Lores looks to Sarosha.
Not much to tell that is relevant. except she is my sister. and the marriage would have solidified a very powerful and influential trio of Pirate Lords in the Shackles. Until she disappeared the night after the wedding. I am sure that if you can indeed locate her dead or alive I would be most grateful.
Sarosha
|
I can not guarantee anything, Captain Lores, but we will find your sister if we can. I'm curious, do you know anything of the mysterious woman and her two brothers who moved in about the time your sister disappeared? Is it possible they were involved?
| DM of the coins |
been slow to respond to give others a chance to aks questions
Captain Lores responds, I don't know anything of them, in fact I only recently heard of them, the same time you did. as far as moving in? I don't think that was the case.
anyway let me show you to where some sledge hammers are.
The Old man rolls up the will and hands it to Adrian Lores. My work is completed, Captain Lores, you know what to do form here on out. and the Master of Gales leaves.
Adrian takes you to an old shed and gets 3 sledge hammers handing them to the group.
he then escorts you guys to the wine cellar.
Sarosha
|
Sarosha gamely picks up a sledgehammer and taps hesitantly at the wall, chipping away some of the paint and not much else.
I'm sorry, I don't do this kind of work usually. How is it supposed to go?
| Abedezar Mavashti |
Abedezar takes a crack at the wall.
Str Check: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16 2 for Str, 2 for hammer
Sarosha
|
Oh, I see.
Sarosha takes a hefty swing at the wall.
Str Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Sarosha
|
After pounding a while on the wall, Sarosha steps back and hands her hammer to Rickard.
Would you like a turn, good sir?
| Devana |
Devana has followed quietly and obeserves as the others treat the wall with physical violence. She doesn't seem to even consider picking up a sledge hammer. Between the strikes she asks in several intervals: "What was that a 'mysterious woman and her two brothers' earlier? Oh, if you want me to cast a few spells in order to tear the wall down a little faster let me know." She stripes a bit of dust from the wall off her sleave.
| DM of the coins |
will post late tonight, working back shift. (EST). But the wall is easily broken through with those rolls
Sarosha
|
Sarosha wipes dust off her own sleeve and replies,
No one seems to know, but they didn't move in and no one has seen them since. Very mysterious, I must say.
| DM of the coins |
The door to the cellar was locked, Captain Lores has the key to open it, but it looks like this door has not been opened for a very long time, possibly years.
The cellar houses many racks of wine, rolled up tapestries, empty casks, and the like. The room is paneled with wood.
you find thesection of wall that was described in the Will with little difficulty. you easily smash through the wall with the hammers and climb your way through the wreckage. The area beyond is a 10 foot deep alcove with a strong iron door.
down the center of the door is a line of 6 key holes.
Sarosha
|
Sarosha examines the tiny silver key on a thong around her neck.
This is a momentous moment. What lies behind the door? Riches? Death? Something better or something worse? Nothing at all?
She sighs. Inserting the key into the first keyhole, she says,
Shall we?
| Abedezar Mavashti |
Dropping the sledge to the ground, Abedezar walks forward and retrieves his key, stopping in front of the last keyhole. "No time like da present."
| Devana |
Devana does really think about, she does it on her own as she says in the old, Draconic language: "Streams of arcane, illuminate and unveil!" and gestures with her hand. Detect Magic
While pulls the little silver key hidden between her breast out at the leather cord around her neck, the other hand runs slowly along the panel with the key holes, just barely not touching it. She seems to follow, or at least try to follow patterns that no one else can see. (if their is anything magic about it, spellcraft) Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29)
Finally she slips the key with an elegant gesture into one of the locks and tries carefully whether she can already turn it.
| DM of the coins |
You all place your keys in the keyholes and as each is turned a section of the locking mechanism is released.
the iron door is pulled open and air is sucked in as you struggle to open the door. a decades old seal is broken. in the darkness beyond there is a faint flicker of light maybe 100 feet ahead. the walls and the floor are smooth, made of solid stone. they show the marks of superior dwarven craftsmanship.
you notice the word "BETRAYER" scrawled in blood on the wall to your left, also on the floor are two spent sunrods and bent crowbar
Sarosha
|
Sarosha peers intently down the hall.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 4
...and sees nothing.
| Devana |
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Only someone who knows Devana very well would have noticed the slight shiver running down her spine. "Let's block the door with something before we enter. I don't want this vault to become our tomb."
She herself steps slowly forward and pulls the elegant, but thoroughly handled dagger of high quality steel from her belt. With a few words in Draconic she casts a light spell on its belt. The she kneels down by the writing and examines it closely, running her blade along every single letter, so that everyone can see them.
She tries to figure out whether the poor writer did indeed use his or her own blood and get a feeling for the hand writing.
| Abedezar Mavashti |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Abedezar draws a dart for each hand, idly twirling them between his fingers. He the draws his Kukri with his tail, ready to pass it into one of his hands if needed.
He takes note of the blood, nonplussed. "Everyone's seen a bit of betrayal, especially if they live in the streets," Abedezar thinks.
| DM of the coins |
the prty investigation of the findings seems to indicate that whoever it was, was attempting to use the crowbar to pry open the iron door from the inside. and that failed.
seems someone was sealed in this vault and left to die
you are unable to determine who's blood it is.
| Abedezar Mavashti |
Eyes peeled, Abedezar slowly walks into the hall.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Sarosha
|
Fearful, but not wanting to show it, Sarosha follows Abedezar.
| DM of the coins |
The door appears to stay open one you open it. there is no mechanism to close it. on the inside there are no key holes nor any means to lock the door.
The corridor continues on straight and there are side passages to the left and right as well as straight ahead.
straight ahead there appears to be stairs going up as well as the faint light straight ahead in the distance.
the corridors to the left and right both end at a door.
Sarosha
|
Does...does anyone know where we're supposed to go?
Sarosha glances at her companions.
It looks like the stairs lead somewhere important.
Sarosha's shadow dances this way and that under her feet. With a visible effort, she calms it, but its agitation returns shortly.
| Devana |
"Well, I don't think we're supposed to go anywhere... this is all ours. The question is where we want to go." she muses carefully, even though someone who knew her well might have noticed a hint of gleeful anticipation.
Holding her dagger with the glowing blade beside her she steps slowly forward. "Let's try straight first."
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 (she looks for indications of traps before she takes a step, or indications that someone has stepped into one in the past)
Sarosha
|
All right. We can go straight.
| DM of the coins |
as a group you head straight and arrive at a short set of stairs going up.
beyond that first set of stairs there is a side passage to your left and another short set of steps going up.
beyond the second set of stairs the hallway ends at a door. In the wall by the door there is a niche in the wall which is the source of the faint light you noticed when you first entered.
updated party location map
Sarosha
|
Sarosha nervously suggests,
Let's continue straight. I want to see what can still be creating light after decades of neglect.
| Abedezar Mavashti |
"Probly jus' a bit a magic," Abedezar says, shrugging. "But we may as well," he continues, walking on ahead, eyes peeled.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
| Devana |
"I find it a bit odd that the stairs lead up twice... we weren't that far underground, were we?" Without much though she casts light on one of the rocks in the ceiling in order to have some brighter, constant light to illuminate the scene.
She looks at the door and the floor plate right before it in order to make out a trap or anything like that.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
| DM of the coins |
my bad on some info... the wine cellar you went in to break down the wall section was fairly deep under the main manor.
as you approach the lighted area. you notice that there is a stone door with no method visible to open it.
the ligt is coming from a small 4 inch diameter crystal orb set in a little niche in the wall.
the orb looks like it can easily be removed as there appear to be no restraints on it nor anything visible to bar your access to it.
Sarosha
|
Here, I know a trick.
Casting Mage Hand
Sarosha concentrates, mumbles something, and attempts to lift the crystal orb through the air into her hand.
| DM of the coins |
The orb easily moves toward Sarosha.. nothing happens as the orb appears to float toward her. the light intensity remaining the same.
But then the orb comes to rest in Sarosha's hand and suddenly the light from the orbs grows in intensity until illuminating a large area.
the orb is radiating the equivalent of a Daylight spell
Also once the growing light intensity touches the stone door there is a rumbling as the stone door slowly begins to open. sliding down into the floor.
