The Changing Tide
Greetings guys.
So welcome to your discussion thread and thanks for your interest in my game. I'll be messaging some of you shortly with slight changes I want you to make with your characters, but for the most part your characters are all good.
Please get to know each other while you wait for the first post on the Gameplay. If you could note your RL names (If you are comfortable with doing so) and your Position in the world.
Cheers

Greeting all! You may call me Shelby, yes like the car, and I am a college student who works part time. I would also like to put up a small warning that Mondays are not normally great for me, I'm gone all day and get home rather late. So I may not post on Mondays. You have been warned! XD
Aviz
Hello everybody, I'm excited to get started!
You can call me Carl if you wish. I'm also a college kid, and my bad day is Wednesday. Lab for 8 hours straight.
Eskilline Mendric the IV
Hola, Eskilline here, AKA The Great Green God, AKA GGG, AKA Triple G, AKA G3 AKA well, you get the idea.
Zale Trelebor
Hey there, folks. The name's Evan, but it seems simpler to ignore that and stick with Zale. Recently graduated from ye old college with a BA in Theatre Arts, and puttering around a bit just now while I save up to move out of my hometown. As far as my forum time goes, I tend to post at odd hours, as I work nights at a job that leaves me a lot of free time, but I'm a fairly reliable poster nonetheless.
Diving right into mechanics, a question to run by you folks real quick - I'm waffling on whether or not to keep Zale as a full Paladin as we progress, or to multiclass into Swashbuckler at 3rd level. The main consideration in my head was if we needed a little more backup healing/divine magic in the party (in which case I would plan to stick with Paladin), but seeing as we seem to have both a Cleric and an Orcale around, I think we're probably good to go on that score, so I'll plan to buckle some swash instead. Thoughts?
Aviz
A swashbuckler/paladin...I don't think I've ever seen that multiclass. It would certainly be thematically appropriate. And you're right that we probably have quite a bit of healing. However paladin is one of those classes that works best by just going strait paladin (since smite scales off of level). That's a hard decision.
The Changing Tide
There is no longer an Oracle, as Aqgu decided that his alignment clashed too much with your shiny self Zale. You are of course within your right to multiclass, and as we do not have a rougish character, Swashbuckler is a good choice, but I agree with Aviz also, pure Paladin is usually the way to go. But if you are not too worried about optimization, and flavour is your kick, totally multiclass.
Guess I should introduce myself too. Hey guys I am Robert, I'm Irish, moved to Canada in September and am sadly not a college student any more, though I wish I was. Hello one and all.
Aviz
No roguish character in a pirate game? Sacrilege!
I will be very stealthy and perceptive for a fighter, but I won't have lockpicking and whatnot. Hope we don't need a trap disabler.
Zarvas
Hey, everybody! I'm excited to get this underway. My name's Nate, I work as a phone tech with Sprint, and I'm a singer on the side. I'm good about checking and posting regularly, and if at any point something comes up that might prevent that, I'll do my best to give a heads-up. My time zone is U.S. Eastern and I tend to keep pretty typical hours, just to give you some idea of when I'll be active.
Also, since I didn't do this before...
Backstory - the short version is Zarvas was raised among a cult of Calistria in Katapesh with his mother, where he loved exploring the heights and depths of the city. After he became a full cleric, he started to get antsy, left the city and started wandering. He then ended up in the Shackles, because of course he did.
Appearance - something like this, though obviously a bit more humanoid-shaped. And with clothes. Usually.
Motivation - to explore the world, to experience new and unusual sensations, and to spread the glory of Calistria to all who will listen (and many who would rather not)!
Favorite color - maroon
Favorite meal - though Zarvas is far from picky when it comes to his bugs, he has recently acquired a particular taste for dragonflies, and gobbles up any he can find with gusto.
Theme song - ehh, I'll get back to you on that.

Flavour is always my kick, first and foremost. That said, there is something extremely tasty to me in the numbers included in combining Swashbuckler and Paladin. Good saves across the board plus Charmed Life to add to it, Parry/Riposte to annoy enemies I fling myself in the way of, and adding Precise Strike damage on top of the occasional Smite Evil. Mmmm.
Of course, all that seems moot if we're out the Oracle. This is a pretty large party, and unless our Cleric specializes real hard, I suspect we'll need an off healer in the form of my 'shiny self'. =) Full Paladin it is. I'll go ahead and switch my Str and Dex to 15 and 14, respectively (slightly lower Str than before), to keep my Combat Reflexes rolling for when Bodyguard/In Harm's Way come into play.

I'm ganna point out in one game of Reign of Winter I ran in RL, I had a swashadin. He was out putting average of 34 damage at level 10. It works rather well. If you do it just right it can be a deadly combo!
Oh right I should also issue a warning! XD
Really two, One: I am dyslexic. I try to filter through spell check and what not but it doesn't catch everything.
Two: You will either love or hate Es, if you ever played Dragon Age 2 she a lot like Isabella! Whom she is based off of so that isn't shocking... For those who have not played it, to sum up Isabella, she's a pirate who likes money and sex. Much like Es, but thankfully Es has more to her character than Isabella does.
G'nosha Balkyen
Hi everyone, nice to meet you! :D
I'm (also!) a college student, and I'm French. My bad day is usually Tuesday, and I tend to have busy weeks...
I'm sorry, I didn't had the time to work on G'nosha's background. I've got the general idea, but I have to find the time to write it down.
It should be ready before the end of the week though.

Hey guys, so I am going to be using Roll20 for Maps (I literally just figured it out there to make it work, praise Erastil). I'll need you to link me to a piece of art you want to use for a "token" (I say token but It will not be anything pretty) and make an account for roll20, if you do not have one already.
Esmarelda Valarie
I have one so we're good! ^_^
Esmarelda Valarie
Oh hey, triple G! I did some digging into that Anime I spoke of, she is playing a Melodica.
Esmarelda Valarie
You could, or the picture I used for her. Either works for me!
Aviz
I wonder what happens in the event of a tie?
We probably won't learn because Zarvas is going to destroy us all, but it's an interesting thought.
Zarvas
Lol yeah... he's okay at the climbing.
As for the roll20, awesome. I love having combat maps. If you can use the frog pic I used for my description earlier, that'd work nicely; failing that, I'm not picky. I'd gladly settle for, say,a yellow circle with a brown dot in the middle.
Aviz
Well I should probably ask this before pulling anything...
Would anybody be opposed to the idea of some non-damaging PVP? We're all strangers right now and have no reason to trust each other. I'm considering the implications of getting in the way of each other in these contests, like tripping each other. I don't know if the GM or other players would frown upon that so I wanted to ask first.

I suppose we didn't specify the normal problems for falling. Do we still fall if we fail the check by 5 or more? If so then I'm falling from 52.5 feet myself.
And this is how the campaign ended. Not with an epic battle or being caught by the law, but by all falling from the same pole.

A point. I was assuming the usual consequences - hope that wasn't crazypants.
Esmarelda Valarie
Maybe if he doesn't end the race early, he may allow those of us in the rigging along with you to reflex to grab?
Eskilline Mendric the IV
Eskilline casts sleep on the grippli the first round then accelerated climbs the rest of the way! Winner! Heads to the bow of the ship to proclaim he's the king of the world!
Eskiline's iconic photo is fine for mapping, but my other pirate looks like this. Probably too much with Esmarelda aboard.
Esmarelda Valarie
Okay, some one, namely the GM, explain something to me real quick? Zale is falling yes? And you only fall if you fail by 5 or more. So can Es roll to aid Zale there for negating his last roll and thus him falling?
Esmarelda Valarie
Very well! I shall roll to see if she can aid before I head to bed.
Eskilline Mendric the IV
Eskilline would have turned around and helped anyone behind him that last little bit. He's nice like that.
Esmarelda Valarie
Okay, someone correct me if I'm wrong but Zale didn't fall... Es catching him on his roll which resulted in a 5 mean he didn't fall then and thus didn't need the last roll yes?
