Brains for the brainthrone! This is my fearsome bard, with his fearsome avatar. Yeah, I wish there were some more mindflayer like pictures, but with the closed licence and all that ...
Anyway, I hope it looks fine.
Edit: Also, I'm on the lookout for 2 more languages to learn, the only core I don't know is druidic and gnoll (which feels kind of redundant). I know there is some strange language on X or something spoken on the outer planes (I think fetchlings can learn to understand it, but not speak...). Anyone got any cool suggestion ?
Edit2: The language was called D’ziriak. It's the native language of the insectoid creatures of the plane of shadows and it appears to be very hard to speak. Is it ok if I assume that a mind flayer is smart enough to manage ?

Hmm I don't really know what to expect from this adventure, but it feels like it's going to be something special! I just know that it might include moustache (tentacle) twirling from my part - let me know if I overdo the clichés.
As for mindflayers, I don't think they are like drones, they are far to smart for that. I just think they respect and obey the Elder Brain as it's basically the most powerful (by far) member of their society. It don't hurt that it is believed to contain all their ancestors also.

If you're lucky your brain will be added to the elder brain upon your death. ;-)

here is the work in progress setting
The Dark World
Few remember the name of the world before the rise of the Mind Flayers. Before the dark times, the world was a beautiful place, filled with flourishing cities, huge pristine forests and beautiful oceans. But dark forces were at work. It took a millennia of plots, trades, alliances and so much more, but one faithful day the sun did not rise. What had happened was that the Ilithid had made a pact with the lord of Hell, the god Asmodeus, to store the sun in the depths of Erebus. This was done with technology the Ilithid managed to pry from the god Vecna. The Mind Flayers had the plans but the actual construction was not built by them, it was built by the Mi-Go. What they built was a large ring around the sun, made from a strange dark matter that the Mind Flayers extracted from the shadow plane. When the ring was complete the Mind Flayers activated it with a great blood ritual, culminating in the destruction of several elder brains. The release of the psychic energy exploding out from the world activated the Shadow Ring, which shrank, into a tiny point. The sun now the size of a jewel was then planeshifted to Eberus.
To keep the world from freezing over, the Mind Flayers opened up hundreds of thousands of portals into the plane. The portals are now protected by Fire Giants, who can only thrive being near such intense heat. This was what set off the war between the Mind Flayers and the Aboleths, for the Aboleths living in the sea could not benefit from the fire plane portals of the Mind Flayers, their oceans froze. The Aboleths had to create several different ways to keep their oceans liquid. In the end the Aboleths felt the Mind Flayers had gone too far.
Now the world is just called “The Dark World”, the surface is nothing more than a huge frozen wasteland, even all the oceans are frozen solid on the surface. The surface is full of undead, a fair few which are intelligent, since they don’t mind the cold. Lower down is a completely different matter, the world is made of hundreds of thousands of caves; each connected to at least one Fire Plane Portal for heating. These Caves are massive hollowed out structures under the earth where entire cities are nested under hundreds of feet of earth and rock. In each of these Ilithid cities there are huge these is a very strict hierarchy, the Elder Brain being the ruler of all citizens. The hierarchy is strictly based on race, then ability and reputation and finally connections. Mind Flayers are of course at the top of the chain, rulers of the world, followed by dragons, monstrous humanoids, intelligent undead and giants. Lower down are the rest of the humanoids and even lower down than that the races that were tied to nature like nymphs and treants. Finally the lowest of the lot in the social ladder are the less intelligent creatures, like orcs, ogres, hill giants and even mindless creatures like oozes are on this level. While dragons, monstrous humanoids, intelligent undead and giants are treated as second class citizens, they are mostly free and some eventually claw their way up to higher standing that some Mind Flayers. On the other hand any anything lower down in the social ladder are always considered slaves or worse, food. There are a few exceptions of creatures that are met with equal respect and even equality to Mind Flayers themselves. These are the intellect devourers, the Mi-go, Neolithids and powerful evil outsiders (CR8+).
This Mind Flayer society holds only 3 things sacred; Order, Knowledge and Respect. To this end the most prestigious jobs for Mind Flayers are Clerics, Jailers, Archivists, Judges and Inquisitors. While being part of such organisation is prestigious, it doesn’t necessarily increase the Mind Flayer’s standing in society. Clerics especially are viewed in a mixed way, since most Mind Flayers are too arrogant to worship deities in any great length. Thus the main role of Clerics is not to make Mind Flayers worship gods, but to keep all the other lower races in control through worship. To this end Mind Flayers worship mostly lawful gods, primarily Asmodeus, Hextor and Abadar. The only gods that are allowed to be worshiped are Abadar, Asmodeus, Zon-Kuthon, Urgathoa, Norgorber, Iori, Hextor, Vecna and Loth. The worship of any other god is punishable with torture or death.

I took arcane heritage to get the level 1 power of the sanguine bloodline. I thought it would be interesting and good creepy fun. Basically I'm a bloated ilithid with leechlike tendencies. You can make your own ruling on how that affects my bloodpool, but I assume "as if you'd had a full mean" in this case is as nourishing as eating a brain. Alternate food source! YAY!
Sanguine
The Blood Is the Life (Su) : At 1st level, you can gain sustenance from the blood of the recently dead. As a standard action, you can drink the blood of a creature that died within the past minute. The creature must be corporeal, must be at least the same size as you, and must have blood. This ability heals you 1d6 hit points and nourishes you as if you'd had a full meal. You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. This bloodline power replaces grave touch.

@Myron: Just checked out your character, shouldn't the suggestion sp-like ability have a dc of 16 ? 10+Cha+Spell Level (3 for Wiz/Sor, which is default).
@Ulgulanoth: Nice world! About Neolithids, are we running with Paizos interpretation (old mystical servants of long-forgoten gods) or WotC (overgrown mindflayer tadpoles)?

Thanks for catching that. I'm open to suggestions on build also. ;-)

@Ulgualanoth Okay : )
@Myron I don't have any great suggestions - other then on spell selection. I think we should sync a little, so that we don't end up with 3 casters knowing the exact same spells : )
Things I got:
*Buffs: Heroism, Motivate (inspire) Courage +2 and 1d6 extra sonic dmg
*Debuffs: Mindblast with a rather high DC of 24, Lots of ways to get people shaken (blistering invective, minion with cournegon smash). Also some lover level debuffs in the shape of grease and hideous laughter.
*Invisibly detection in small amounts with glitterdust
*Out of combat summonings (max 12 HD) from Infernal Bargain (bard masterpiece)
*Standard bard stuff like decent social skills and distract/fascinate/countersong
Obviously, I wont be able to do all this at the same time, and not at the same level as a dedicated caster. So if you feel like there is something anyone would like me to try and cower, just ask and I shall see what I can do, bard spells permitting. The only major thing I havn't seen is Invisibility spells and flying spells (can't really fix the last part, but then again, might not be that much flying in caves : ) ).
Sorry for the wall

I'm planning on going against things with spell resistance. I am not bothering to memorize SR yes offensive spells. I have arcane blast if we need that.
Instead I was thinking about utility and buffs. We're high CR, but I don't think we're going to be combat machines. So far my thoughts are few.
A few haste's in the 3rd level spot
maybe a phantom steed

Monkeygod, if you're still here, you wanna be flanking buddies? It'll benefit both of us, although me probably a bit more than you, and those that you slay can be my experiments. Instead of extracting, I'm going to be more interested in disecting the bodies of the fallen, or perhaps those still alive.
Edit: In regards to spells, I can't really hand them out yet. I didn't pick up infusion, although given time and money, I can pass out some potions, and of course use wands of any spells on the Alchemist Formulae List.
Blepxeblopty
Good thinking about the SR - I have some supernatural bard skills that can be used if it can't be beaten, making resistance futile. I guess phantom steed can fly at this level ? Hmm that gave me an idea, nightmares are only 5-6 HD...
Regarding infusions: Mkay, the thruth to be told, I can only hand out heroism and undetectable alignment ...
Myron
I had an idea if you want to use it. It incoroprates spell jammer ish things, so you may or may not want to use it.
The initial basic premise is the same as the Star Trek Voyager, except with Ilithids. ;-)
Esssentially we get on a spell jammer for whatever reason then get lost in the distant cosmos. At at that point literally anything could happen. Lush jungle planet of feral elves, frozen tundra of a distant moon that has some sort of resource we need, Starports. ;-)
Just a thought.
Myron
Got some suggestions (DC 21, but you have a pretty good willsave xD): Maybe you should write down the DC:s of your spells somewhere ? Like "Glitterdust DC 24" or "lvl 2 spells: DC 22". And write down you saving throws : P Other then that, weren't we promised fireballs :D?
FIreballs are for amateurs. ;-)
Good idea. on the saves.
Also, Your name is the sound one makes when the fart and sneeze at the same time. ;-)
Myron
But they are pretty :P
Now that you say it... I can't really pronounce it the way it's spelled. I would go with Bleep-Blop-ty or something :)
I chose a non-illithidy name for ease of spelling and pronounciation. I know it lacks that creepy Illithidy flavor, but I didn't feel like stringing vowels together.

Yea Edgar, I'm still here and that sounds like a great idea. For starters, I say let's both take Precise Strike, an extra 1d6 of damage is always useful.
The last few days were little extra hectic with unexpected, yet fun stuff happening so my work on my PsyWar/Slayer got delayed. Will have him ready by tonite or morrow.
