Phedran
|
Phedran takes a couple steps down, finds his footing, then reaches for one of the flasks of volitile substances on his bandolier.
Okay, be very careful not to hit the camel...
Phedran aims short of the beast Black Fang, and tosses a vial, hoping to splash its contents by shattering it on the stone floor.
Attack vs AC 5, intersection of O25, O26, P25 & P26: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Move: Draw shortbow
Free: 5-foot shift to square L-26
Standard: Attack with bomb
(Splash damage should be minimum of 4 fire)
| Hank the Keeper |
Hank dashes forward and casts Guidance on Cammy, hoping the camel can end this fight quickly. Getting so close to the dragon is flat-out terrifying, but he manages to control his tremulous hands in order to execute the cantrip's somatic components.
Hank moves into M23, casts Guidance on Big C
| GM MacShack |
Sorry, I wa at Gen Con and couldn't post.
Black Fnag dodges out if the way of Cammy's bite.
Both the contents of Phedran's bomb and Belliken's magic missile collide with Black Fang and seem to hurt him.
Seeing the dragon bane sword drawn from its sheath, Black Fang hisses in anger and spits a line of acid towards Sofia.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Reflex save for half damage: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Sofia Narin
|
Not sure what the DC of the reflex save is, but I'll assume I've failed it (is that what you have rolled above or do I have to roll and try to beat a 7? Welcome back from GenCon!
Sofia feels the acid splash onto her hands and scalp, and cries out in pain. She knows that the burns will leave scarring, but she is okay with that. It was her choice to follow this path and scarring beats a life of endless high society ball gowns and dances anyday.
Seeing the dragon's reaction to the sword, Sofia holds it up so the evil bastard can take a good look at it Have you met my friend? Sofia says, spinning the blade in her hand. You've just made him very angry...
Sofia launches herself at the underbelly of the dragon, driving the dragonbane sword upward with all of her might
Attack roll: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Attack roll to confirm crit: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
If confirmed, damage is x2
| GM MacShack |
Sorry if I was unclear, the sword does 2d6 extra damage against dragons, for a total of 3d6 plus STR. Also, attacking the underbelly gives you a +2 on your attack roll.
Third d6 of damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
As Sofia's blade swings upwards, it momentarily grows slightly heavier. It bites into the weaker scales on Black Fang's underside with more force than a typical sword, and the dragon screams in rage and agony.
Phedran
|
The smell of acrid, burning flesh immediately fills the air. Phedran gasps, in part from the smell, but mostly at the realization of what just occurred in front of him. Gods! Sofia took the brunt of that dragon whelp's foul breath! I have to do something!
He places his panic aside, and springs to action. He takes a step, and grabs a vial of a milky green substance from his bandolier. He snorts a sudden sharp breath, then tips the vial back.
As he swishes the contents from one cheek to another, Phedran can feel the liquid churning, curdling, hardening. He looks at the beast in front of him, and opens his mouth. The roof of his mouth, and his tongue are connected like two slices of bread by stringy, melting cheese.
He makes a gutteral, horking sound in the back of his throat, then spits the thick contents towards Black Fang. Opening like a spider's web in mid flight, it drapes across the dragon, missing Sofia completely.
Perfect aim! Haha!
The beast struggles against the viscous goo, pulling strands free from the rocky floor underneath it.
Come on, hold! I swear, I mixed it right! Hold!
As a precaution, Phedran nocks an arrow and aims...
Move: 5' shift north-east to square M-25, 15' away from Black Fang
Standard: cast adhesive spittle on Black Fang
Phedran
|
The beast flaps its wings in a futile effort to deflect it, but only succeeds in sending some of the strands to the floor, securing him in place.
Phedran attempts to speak, but finds his lips still pursed together. With more than the usual effort needed, he peels them apart. "Suktheth! he manages to spit. "The foul lithard hath been caught, now to sthrike thrue, while ith hampered!"
| Cammy the Camel |
"SKRONK!" warbles the wounded camel in violent determination. Lowering his ears back behind his head, he bares his vicious incisors and chomps on the foul reptilian.
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d4 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Google "Camel Mouth" for the proper visuals, my friends!
| GM MacShack |
Cammy clamps his jaws on the dragon, and there is an audible crunch as he draws blood. In anger, he thrashes around, struggling to free himself from the alchemical adhesive.
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
With a ripping sound, he tears the mixture free from the floor, although his legs are still stuck together and his wings are stuck to his sides. He drags gunsel back towards the open back of the room. Sofia, Cammy, you can make attacks of opportunity now if you want.
Phedran
|
"Excellent, Sofia! Strike true once more!"
(I'll have to wait until after Sofia's turn, and take a look at the updated map to ensure proper bomb placement.)
Phedran
|
I'm going to go and take my turn ahead of Sofia, we'll just say she delayed until my turn, if that's okay.
Phedran darts ahead and puts his back to the wall, grabbing another vial from his bandolier. He gives it a sudden shake, and the fluid begins to bubble. He then tosses it at the beast, who is still struggling with the viscous adhesive.
Attack, bomb vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage (fire): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Move: three east, one north to P-26
Standard: Splash attack with bomb against Black Fang
Sofia Narin
|
Oh sorry, I thought that the AOO was my go!
Sofia senses the dragon's pain Stings doesn't it? That what happens when you spit acid at someone. Here, have some more.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1) = 6
What a dice roll that was! NOT
| Hank the Keeper |
Hank glances down at the wand in his left hand, thinking to himself "Whelp, time to see if this thing is the real deal or if we all got took by that magic man in town."
He then dashes forward and uses it to apply Cure Light Wounds on Sofia.
Cure Light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"Whoa, this thingy works real good, y'all!
| Cammy the Camel |
Cammy, having seen Phedran's utterly horrifying loogie, attempts to upstage his comrade with his own version. He moves into striking distance (10 ft range), rears back, and lets it fly.
Camel Spit, DC 13 touch attack, sickened for 1d4 rounds: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d4 ⇒ 1
| Belliken Weaver |
Belliken is clearly shaking from adrenaline and excitement. My first adventure and I slayed a dragon? I knew I was good but, sheesh
Good work fellows, what a tussle eh? Looks like we get to inherit this beasties hoard now that it ain't got no use for it. I have no need for the smithwork, let's say I grab the scrolls?
spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
| Hank the Keeper |
Hank looks both proudly and sadly at the thoroughly mauled body of Black Fang. "My sheep have their vengeance, but at what cost? I reck that this lil' guy was just tryin' to live. I hope I didn't meddle to much in the circle of meat eater versus prey. But I'm glad to preserve the smaller creatures of the country from such a monster. Dragons ain't proper animals nohow. That metal makes me shiver, but you might could use it Sof."
He pats Cammy affectionately, dodging Cammy's lunging nips in order to properly express his love. "Ya did good, ol boy."
| Belliken Weaver |
Belliken's eyes go wide when he takes his share(150) of the gold. He has never held so much in his life and is completely overwhelmed. He clutches it tight and quickly slips it into his bag.
Shall we head into town and tell them the good news? We will be legends for sure eh?
nice the overpowered beginner box raise dead spell. ;) How much experience did we get / are we close to leveling up?
Phedran
|
Phedran grabs the potion, gives it a shake, and puts a magnifying loupe to the glass to examine how the liquid reacts. He then takes the lid off, smells it, and gives a quick taste.
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Phedran
|
Phedran puts the cork back in the filtre,
then flips it in his hand, gesturing it towards Sofia.
"This will serve you well in a time of need. Gives you the strength of a hill giant."
Phedran will just take his share of the gold and let the rest of the loot be distributed.
Sofia Narin
|
Sofia slumps to the cavern floor, exhausted and staring at the corpse of the dragon. There is more evil in the world but for today, we can be proud she thinks
Sofia will take her share of the gold and quite fancies a cold ale at the Tavern followed by a hearty meal and a shopping trip to Sandpoint.
GM - a first class job, really appreciated. Everyone else- I've learnt so much about RP from you. You are very talented.
| Belliken Weaver |
"Looks like we could all use a rest. Perhaps we ought to take some of this dragon home with us as proof eh?"
Belliken walks over to the corpse tentatively, making sure it isn't breathing or moving. He then grabs at a tooth and gives it big tug.
Strength: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (9) - 2 = 7
| Hank the Keeper |
Hank tightens the ropes on Cammy's saddlebags, now bulging with treasure and other heavy stuff that the party doesn't feel like carrying right now. The money is nice.
"I'll be able to support my ma. Heck, I'll be able to retire if we have a few more big adventures. Turns out I'm a hero after all, I reck."
| GM MacShack |
Thanks! I had a lot of fun too.
After some tugging, one of Black Fang's teeth snaps off in Belliken's hand. When the five of you return to Sandpoint, the mayor pays the reward and there is a feast in the town square.
Congratulations everyone! I'll open up the thread for Trail of the Apprentice soon. Unfortunately, there wasn't quite enough XP to level up, but that kind of works well, since this one starts at level 1.
Phedran
|
Awesome. :)
Just let us know in this thread, and I'll be there.
Phedran

Running through Into the Unknown (the five Quests) here on the PbP boards, and it seems really great so far.
| Hank the Keeper |
Yep, definitely having big fun with this. I haven't explored Starfinder at all--tend to gravitate more toward classic fantasy than scifi, but the idea of a streamlined/updated Pathfinder is pretty appealing. What do you like about it so far?
